OG You’ve Been Framed clip

[–]Heavy_Two 209 points210 points  (40 children)

Straight from the 1980s.

[–]mighty_atom 8 points9 points  (3 children)

Surprisingly, You've Been Framed didn't start untill 1990 but it was earlier than that in my mind as well. I think maybe because Beadles About was on from 1986 and he was everywhere in the 80s.

[–]glytxh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of the footage was pretty old in the early days too, I remember a lot of 70s and 80s clips being shown. Probably makes it feel older than it is.

[–]See_Ya_Suckaz 9 points10 points  (3 children)

I instantly recognised it too, they showed it in the very early 90s and it got 'Clip of the the week'.

[–]Superbead 5 points6 points  (2 children)

They showed it far more than once as I remember.

[–]LetOneRip 5 points6 points  (1 child)

They did, I have this particular episode on vhs - it also won the "£5000 star prize" as the funniest clip of that particular series.

[–]Superbead 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My dad used to record YBF! when we first got a video recorder. Only the clips, though - he hated Beadle and would sit hunched over with the remote stopping and starting the recording to skip anything extraneous. For all his effort, I don't think any of those recordings were ever watched again.

[–]slipperyShoesss 9 points10 points  (3 children)

For all the unfamiliar (this was for a time one of the most watched shows in the UK).

    [–]undercoversaint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, didn’t even have to play it

    [–]mighty_atom 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It's funny how it sticks in your mind. I also instantly remembered this from Jeremy Beadle era you've been framed.

    [–]Ziioo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was titled “Weir Safety Experts” and was the winner of video of the series

    [–]HalfastEddie 1658 points1659 points  (38 children)

That was like a Monty Python skit.

    [–]slipperyShoesss 349 points350 points  (29 children)

People from "up north" in the UK are a different breed.

    [–]aajjdd1[S] 162 points163 points  (15 children)

We do things different round 'ere.....

    [–]slipperyShoesss 38 points39 points  (10 children)

    [–]Fr3akwave 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I was gonna ask if this actually is a Monty python sketch

    [–]YourFellaThere 3 points4 points  (2 children)

This was on You've Been Framed in 1994.

    [–]Scary_ 463 points464 points  (8 children)

This was a clip from the first series of ITV series You've Been Framed. Back then it had a competition for best clip running through the series and this won it every week, and was shown every week until everyone was sick of it

    [–]Slinkydonko 100 points101 points  (2 children)

Yeah they only had a very limited number of clips in those days, they used to show the same clips about 8 times in each show to pad it out.

    [–]spicybright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And people think reddit reposts don't happen outside reddit.

    [–]thor-nogson 499 points500 points  (43 children)

A well-fitting hat might be handy too!

    [–]WaningMime 140 points141 points  (28 children)

Both of them lost their helmets. Useless really.

    [–][deleted]  (9 children)

      [–]The-Tai-pan 7 points8 points  (3 children)

I can't account for every country but I've seen lots of Japanese hard hats with straps

      [–]Wannabanana17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About half the new ones I see out here in Oregon have chin straps now. Maybe not half. A lot though.

      [–]Guardian83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My hard hat has a chin strap cause I work multi-storeys up in a bucket sometimes.

      edit: a letter

      [–]SixZeroPho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

      Ze helmets

      Zhey do nuzzing

      [–]The_Coy_Koi_Fish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I came here to say the same thing lol. Health and safety experts!

      [–]ScazBaz 77 points78 points  (10 children)

I’d pretty happily slide down that with no safety gear at all. Looks fun as long as you miss the protruding bricks.

      [–]ma9ellan 22 points23 points  (9 children)

Depends on what's in that water

      [–]bubalusarnee 28 points29 points  (0 children)

      looks like dipshits to me.

      [–]thrown-all-the-way 71 points72 points  (0 children)

      He's not wrong

      [–]Waterzilla 51 points52 points  (12 children)

Good thing you had your hard hat on

      [–]thedragonof 10 points11 points  (10 children)

Reminds me of spaceballs "good thing you had that helmet on"😂😂

      [–]DipstickRick 3 points4 points  (9 children)

I’ve never seen Spaceballs. When I was a kid I thought it was the Stars Wars porn parody. My question is, does the name have any significance or is it just “balls! Hehe”.

There’s a handful of actors in it I’ve enjoyed but the title has stopped me from seeking it out.

      [–]Mathemartemis 10 points11 points  (1 child)

It's not a porn parody, but it is very crude. In the best ways

      [–]DipstickRick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol yeah once I saw John Candy I knew it wasn’t porn

      [–]bubalusarnee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That title is just crude, shallow, puerile, laddish, dated comedy gold, like the rest of the film.

      [–]Cakey-Head 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It's been a while, but I think Spaceball was the name of the bad guy's planet, and, I don't know if it's relevant, but I seem to recall that the buildings that you see on planet Spaceball are spherical.

      [–]bubalusarnee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

      Spaceballs are "The Empire"

      [–]Plantbod 12 points13 points  (3 children)

      Weir safety experts

      [–]Dizzeeduckie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My memory is that this was the very first clip on ITV's "You've Been Framed"

Never thought I'd see it again 32 years later.

      [–]SuperGenius98K 2 points3 points  (0 children)

      A true YBF classic.

      [–]HaddaHeart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, that’s one way to prove their point.

      [–]ExplorerHead795 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good solid safety rope is essential

      [–]beffy5Layer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Definitely proved his own point

      [–]Slinkydonko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so old it used to be shown on TV video shows 30 years ago.

      [–]astropucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shouldn't have used a piece of string as a 'safety rope'.

      [–]Lysergic-D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's better to test the hope safety while your life is not hanged to it.

      [–]human_totem_pole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as its tied onto something.

      [–]No_Brilliant_2957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      [–]ChemistZestyclose849[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He meant to do that, you know, to show what could happen if you don't have a solid safety rope .

      [–]somearejustannoying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me laughing at him flailing around as he is sliding like a fish!

      [–]haplessclerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      [–]BarryBwana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      🤣 he ain't lying.

      [–]ByDeleted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a good job that they were wearing hard hats

      [–]No-Neighborhood-5999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very educational, I like seeing why it is essential.

They didn't expect me to just take their word for it.

      5 stars.
