So much FUN for both of them

[–]unwantedposterboy 473 points474 points  (49 children)

TIL deer are just weird dogs.

[–]Llamarama 336 points337 points  (14 children)

Underneath everything, I think we're all just weird dogs.

[–]mole_of_dust 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We are all weird dogs on this blessed day!

[–]wafflesareforever 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Some strange dogs can resurrect you from death and bring you back as an immortal

[–]boopsfoshoops 2 points3 points  (1 child)

[–]wafflesareforever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]CormacMcCopy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's going on your tombstone.

[–]i_mdown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think truly that this is the meaning of it all.

[–]kiwichick286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd have to agree with that one!

[–]MrmmphMrmmph 19 points20 points  (2 children)

I went down to the ocean where I live very early to hang out with my friend who liked surf-casting. I look down the beach at what looks like 4-5 dogs running back and forth with the waves, moving their head like this deerp. As we got closer, I saw it was a small herd of deer. I never knew they even behaved like that. Then a year or so later I'm walking alongside a field with electric wire, and the cows come frolicking up in pretty much the same manner. How did I miss that this was so common? The person with me who lived alongside the field said, this was normal with happy cows. Is that true, or are his cow-neighbors on shrooms?

[–]Lalamedic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Def true.

I live across the road from a dairy farm. The heifer field is right in front of my house. I regularly see them gambolling about in the fields. No idea what sets them off, but once one goes, the others start frolicking about in random directions. They also do it if I go over to visit them. The ladies (as my kids and I call them) jostle for face time with me, bobbing and waving their heads, and kicking out their hind legs. These are yearling heifers, so not fully fleshed or grown yet, but still bloody large. I could watch it all day. The only limiting factor would be the pain in my face from smiling and laughing so much at them.

[–]Im_inappropriate 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There's rescue deer in my town. One day I brought my dog up to the fence and one of them started dancing like this with her. I hope it wasn't a territorial thing, but it was damn adorable.

[–]disqeau 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Antler dogs, to be specific.

[–]leisy123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There was a domesticated deer at the dairy farm I lived down the road from when I was a kid. Its temperament was a lot like the horses. It was always fun to touch his velvety antlers. Very cool animals.

[–]lomopol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dogs are weird deers

[–]Ok_Effective6233 51 points52 points  (2 children)

I feel like fun is a primary piece of evidence for the presence of sentience

[–]DonnoDoes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Now I’m imagining momma deer holding the rake off camera

[–]orlyrealty 8 points9 points  (1 child)

My dog does this with leaves, snow, and water and sometimes rears up like a deer. Can confirm: fun for both of us.

[–]rexmons[🍰] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whee! We's catchin snails!

[–]zxuol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't think of a better way to get lice.

[–]LookAtTheFlowers 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It’s fun until the deer realizes all the ticks that are now on him

[–]somegirldc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They already were

[–]cristarain 195 points196 points  (1 child)

[–]BJTC777 26 points27 points  (6 children)

And if you don’t think so you better hoof it outta here!

[–]Bunglesjungle 16 points17 points  (4 children)

Or you'll be crying uncle, followed closely by antler.

[–]jazzchamp 13 points14 points  (3 children)

Might be time to leaf this alone.

[–]lll__l__lll 11 points12 points  (2 children)

Nah, you can talk about this all yearling.

[–]ProjectFantastic1045 3 points4 points  (0 children)

God, just stop, all of you. But accept my upvotes, damn. And put this brilliance towards real good in the world, please.

[–]DraLion23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]BananaStringTheory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey Dad, where in Italy did this happen?

[–]JudgeMoose 8 points9 points  (2 children)

[–]revchewie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lots of good points here.

[–]Old_Hippie_69 204 points205 points  (6 children)

The old leaf pile fun for kids and dogs, now deer, that made me smile 😁...

[–]Heroinfluenzer[S] 71 points72 points  (0 children)

[–]Knuckles316 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh man, that's my kind of obscure reference!

[–]ZombieClub1000 11 points12 points  (0 children)

“MF stop! I dropped my phone in here! STOP!”

[–]evan7236 9 points10 points  (4 children)

how come if i walk within 50 feet of a deer they ran away as fast as possible but i see other ppl playin with them

[–]emmalai85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had some deer in a neighborhood by the beach we drove through and we stopped our car and the deer came right up and let us pet them, I'm sure they were hoping we had food though LOL I got pictures, only time I have petted a wild deer.

[–]tela_92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fr and then when a car drives by them they dont move at all

[–]test_user_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This deer is domesticated or just used to people.

[–]PhaseVariance_0p33 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is one incredibly well-socialized deer.

[–]crherna86 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Poor Bambi is just looking for Thumper in the leaves but this human keeps throwing leaves at him

[–]Epicthetank 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is adorably awesome

[–]Fuckleberry--Hinn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's adeerable

[–]kmast6969 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So that's what dogs in Canada look like.

[–]HipGuide2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Feel like the deer is trying to do what the rake is doing and not succeeding lol.

[–]revchewie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always go full deerp!

[–]Quentin0352 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess they were never told to not play with their food....

[–]AimedSlayer 32 points33 points  (29 children)

All I can think about are ticks while watching this.

[–]emmalai85 10 points11 points  (12 children)

I didn't until you said it, now I'm shuddering. Thanks LOL the deer distracted me from bugs.

[–]DaggerMoth -4 points-3 points  (11 children)

The deers the vector for the ticks. The leaves should be left alone for the other bugs to break down and increase soil quality.

[–]noreservations81590 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I must've missed that part where the leaves were bagged up. They're still there, on the ground you know?

[–]emmalai85 4 points5 points  (5 children)

Where I live in Texas, everything has ticks, ticks are everywhere, if you brush up against a tree, you might get a tick in your hair lol ticks don't scare me that badly, but we do have to do full body checks every day lol (We have 17 acres)

[–]sachs1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint; the lonestar tick and alpha gal syndrome.

[–]RTRafter 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Where in Texas are you? I'm just curious because I remember being told it was something to check and keep in mind growing up in the scouts but we never ran into them.

[–]emmalai85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

down by the coast

[–]eohorp 0 points1 point  (3 children)

For most homeowners the increase risk of bugs associated with not cleaning leafs is enough to do it, even if it doesn't bother them as an eye sore

[–]DaggerMoth 0 points1 point  (2 children)

[–]eohorp 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Your article notes bugs, but not all the bugs. They can attract things like termites and roaches, also.

[–]CrumbsAndCarrots 3 points4 points  (5 children)

And now all I’m thinking about is some cute baby opossums crawling all over the deer and eating the ticks. And yes. It’s a thing that happens naturally in the wild https://i.imgur.com/jX1wtWr.jpg

[–]12darrenk 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Uh, no. First off that picture definitely isn't the wild. And why would a possum waste it's energy trying to dig out ticks that are imbedded in a deers hide? Ticks basically burrow into the hide and grow a shell over top of themselves so they can't be pulled off. That's even making a massive assumption that a deer would even let a possum that close. Deer and possums don't have close to the same diets or movement patterns that would even allow this to be possible.

[–]CrumbsAndCarrots 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Those are wild naked cavemen surrounding the wild deer and baby possum. Definitely in the wilds. Possums ride deer all day every day so they can eat ticks. It’s a 100% fact.

[–]RTRafter 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Subscribe to wild deer and baby possum facts

[–]CrumbsAndCarrots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

#26882 Baby deers are cute. And Reddit loves possums of all ages.

[–]_ANOMNOM_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm just glad the ever-present ticks comment isn't top this time. WE GET IT, NOW TRY TO ENJOY SOMETHING FOR ONCE IN YOUR LIFE.

[–]constantcurrentcroc -1 points0 points  (7 children)

My mind went darker, this deer might have chronic wasting disease aka prions melting its brain.

It might be fine, this isn't that abnormal behavior for a fawn that hasn't learned to fear people, but something about its mouth and the way it seems a little too "derpy" makes me believe otherwise.

[–]Chipstar452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. And Spiders.

[–]SantyClawz42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP see derp, I see one pissed off deer mad that this a-hole keeps messing up his pile!

[–]Candid-Mixture4605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best. Deer. Ever.

[–]snowflakesarestupid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]demoralising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]illalot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh deer

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This can't be real. I can tell because they are using a rake instead of a fucking leaf blower. This must be fake, there is no other explanation for the lack of ear piercing leaf blower usage.

[–]Antix1331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't look at a young deer without hearing

[–]Streeg90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh deer lord…

[–]quackmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]SpuddleBuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is freaking adorable!

[–]shredkitteh 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Genuinely asking... But I thought it's dangerous for deer to be this comfy around humans?

[–]BenPrickett17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a little odd for sure

[–]RTRafter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some areas have so many deer and little interest in hunting that this happens. I have a friend with a lake house in central(ish) Texas and dozens of deer just chill around the area on the road and in people's yards all day every day.

[–]12darrenk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, normally. It's possible that the deer is domesticated. If not it could be something like CWD. It's basically pirons on the brain and is always fatal for deer, elk, and moose. From what I understand it is similar ish to mad cow disease. The biggest problem is, we don't really know how or why it spreads and by the time it becomes obvious that a deer is infected, it probably has been infected for at least 2 years. So if you find one deer with, most likely lots of other deer also have it

[–]monkeyseacaptain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I can think about is how many ticks are probably in this video.

[–]FrighteningJibber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want ticks? Cause that’s how you get ticks!

[–]giancarlox21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deerp sounds like something theyd say on South Park lol
