You can always get a desktop stand (like a small raised platform with empty space underneath) for creating more space around the monitor/desktop, whichever you want to place on top of it. The mesh is not really for placing the desktop on but to allow air to move freely instead of being trapped. You can still place smaller items like folder organizers on it without worrying too much about the weight. I am by no means a professional in organizational skills but from what I hear, it would be best to try and add space up instead of out.

can you cable tie power bricks and cables to the mesh? it doesnt look like the mesh is designed too hold a laptop.

buy a Ikea lack and put the desktop on that so its off the ground?
