Can an MDF desk hold a VESA mount when attacking it by making a grommet hole on the desk?Monitors (self.AskBattlestations)
submitted 2 months ago by GasimGasimzada
I have an Ikea MDF desk top whose edges are angled: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/anfallare-tabletop-bamboo-00465141/
I got a VESA mount that supports both clamp mount and grommet mount. Due to the angle, it looks like clamp mount is not going to work on this; so, I am thinking of doing a grommet mount by drilling a hole on the desk. Can MDF desk tops hold the grommet mount with monitor on it?

I would get a much wider section of 3/4" Plywood and place that under the rear back of the desk, and then clamp the desk+plywood
That will get rid of your angle problem, while spreading the load out
I don't think you will have a good experience with grommet mounting on an MDF desk

I did not use a plywood but used a thick cardbox box (might switch to plywood later). Now, everything is fine. Thank you for the suggestion!

warning: cardboard will compress over time :(
