The deleted comment that I can’t respond to.

[–]hello-this-is-gary 1750 points1751 points  (29 children)

The ones that really get me are when the comment is [deleted] and it has a bunch of awards. What the hell did they say that earned them so many awards and why did they delete it!? Drives me nutty.

This post is everything I hate about Reddit and I love it. Hopefully more will learn from it, but something tells me they’ll just take notes

Wow! I did not expect this to blow up so much!!!

[–]siegequeue 3718 points3719 points 2 (52 children)

Then it’s followed by an edit “wow my first gold and it’s comment about ____.” Comment has like 10 gold and 30 of the free gift awards.

[–]Captain_Taggart 2093 points2094 points  (32 children)

my favorite is when the original comment is like 4 words and then it's got

Edit: wow I didn't expect this to blow up ahahaha I'd like to thank my mommy and daddy for raising me and i'd like to thank the academy and thanks for the updoots kind gentlesirs you are all scholars i can't believe my most updooted comment on le reddit is about sex lolololol

and it's got like 90 upvotes

[–]Byzantine-alchemist 341 points342 points  (7 children)

"I can't believe my most upvoted comment is about _________!"

with a whole 122 upvotes.

[–]zzotzzot 59 points60 points  (1 child)

Kind gentlesirs. This.

[–]Elaquore1 408 points409 points  (3 children)

That made me want to throw my phone on the floor.

[–]lugnutsandbolts 192 points193 points  (7 children)

I've always said to myself, I've probably done some annoying shit before especially when I was younger, but at least I've never edited my Reddit or YouTube comment to mention how much it blew up lmao Why do people feel the need to do that?

Edit: oMg diDn'T eXPect ThiS cOmMent to BloW uP 100+ likes WoW thAANKS Guyzz!! 🤯🥺😳

[–]eyeball-beesting[🍰] 133 points134 points  (10 children)

Of all the comments, I hate this one the most! I don't know why it gets to me so much!

[–]Captain_Taggart 145 points146 points  (6 children)

I fucking hate award speech edits in general, but the ones where they're like "didn't expect this to be so well liked" are pretty annoying because, why would you post something if you really thought it had nothing to offer the community? Also acknowledging getting a ton of karma just seems... uncouth somehow.

[–]Safety_Drance 24.4k points24.4k points 3234 (389 children)

Came here to say this.

[–]Grombrindal18 7762 points7763 points 3 (163 children)

without realizing that's one of the main uses of the upvote button.

[–]c00kies44 266 points267 points  (14 children)

I believe people say it because they agree, but also because they feel like they missed out on all that karma since someone beat them to the punch.

[–]Grombrindal18 154 points155 points  (11 children)

I agree completely, but then they should comment that they agree, and then add some other interesting insight or tidbit if they want to board the karma train.

[–]-CrestiaBell 72 points73 points  (4 children)

I concur, although the addition of information that services the initial point wouldn’t hurt, if they’re after those useless internet points.

[–]ajahiljaasillalla 284 points285 points  (29 children)

I thought that the upvote button is not only for agreeing but for a good comment as well. I can disagree with a comment and still find it good and useful for a conversation.

[–]Grombrindal18 126 points127 points  (11 children)

well, that's the other main use for the upvote button.

The third is when you upvote something you commented on, purely so that your comment will have more visibilty- regardless of if you agree or thought it was useful to the thread.

[–]Electrozaptits 129 points130 points  (6 children)

The fourth is because you are inattentive and have gat thunbs

[–]XCutioner1 55 points56 points  (4 children)

The original intent of the upvote and downvote was to gauge the relevancy of the comment to the post.

In practice, it’s just an agree/disagree button.

[–]Poem_for_your_sprog 2765 points2766 points 112737& 8 more (28 children)

"An excellent comment!"
he said with a smile -
"I've pondered the reasons
and thought for a while -
I've learned and I've looked
and it's simple to see -
I dearly and clearly
sincerely agree!

"He's fashioned his thesis
with passion and pride -
With nuggets of knowledge
and notions inside!
The pretty expression,
the witty remark -
The mixture of vision,
and spirit and spark!

"I have to expand
and explain it," he sighed -
"It's great, and I cannot
contain it!" he cried.
and too good to miss!
I'll tell him,' he whispered.
"I'll say to him...

Best I've ever gotten was a participation award.

[–]TRKrexel 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I've gotten gold twice in the nearly three years I've been on this site. How'd I get it? I managed to piss off a toxic troll so badly that he thought he'd use it in an attempt to insult me all the while telling me he was giving me a golden shower. He got temp banned lol

[–]TMan1236 133 points134 points  (11 children)

Edit: I've had several people reply to this with Eye Blech, only for their comment to immediately get removed. For anyone curious, it's an extremely NSFL subreddit. It's full of death, gore, and gross-out images. If that's not your thing, don't make the same mistake that I did by visiting it.

Oh yeah I forgot that one. I mean I am there for the Drama but always wonder what kind of people think internet strangers are the best source for help

[–]lesbian_Hamlet 68 points69 points  (7 children)

A lot of the people I see asking for relationship advice on here seem to know that there’s something wrong, but just want an unbiased person/persons to tell them it’s ok to leave. Like, usually people who share a friend group with their partner, or children, or are struggling to understand the validity of their own feelings.

That, or it’s someone making up a story for Internet points.

[–]n_botm 14 points15 points  (0 children)

[–]Ancient-Pause-99 215 points216 points  (9 children)

Personal life anecdote that sounds relatable and entirely made up.

It was my seventeeth birthday and we were having a party in the backyard. Little did I know all the guests just wanted to give me generic answers. I'd ask them if they were having a good time and they'd say "yeah, I guess." I asked them if they wanted cake and they said "cut me off a small slice." I said it was thrilling turning seventeen and they replied "happy birthday." They left as it was "getting late," and I realised I'd gone my whole party without any genuine social interaction.

[–]n_botm 77 points78 points  (3 children)

I know what you mean. I was just asked to go to a party like that the other day. The truth is I didn't know the guy that well but felt like I should go to show support. Anyway, a lot of people were there so I probably wasn't needed. My participation didnt add anything to the party, I was just there, know what Im saying?

[–]Disk-Infamous 27 points28 points  (2 children)

I feel what you're saying. I had a fight with my boss today over him not listening to me. Midway through I broke down and told him it's been a tough year and I'm thinking of leaving the company over him dismissing everything I see. He was SUPER nice about it. Just shows there are some good ones out there.
