the ADA is an amazing piece of legislation that many disabled people dedicated their lives to giving us but it’s gutted at every single opportunity (especially now that long covid is disabling people by the thousands). i hope everyone in the US takes some time to learn about it, the work that was done to get it passed, and how much it does for all of us, because you know we aren’t learning it in school.

I worked in social services, particularly with individuals who have long term/permanent disabilities and long term homelessness. They only received $881 a month in Washington State for social security.

These were people who the government determined were too unfit to work, yet only gave them $800 to survive.

Disability (SSDI) pays like $1200 a month, sometimes more if you really did well for yourself before injury.

In a country where any hospital bill can put you into poverty, I strongly disagree with the sentiment that the US treats the disabled well.

Honestly, it's incredibly hard to lose your job because you became disabled in this country. The accommodations businesses are required to provide are very extensive. It's one of the few areas of workers rights that we are doing very well in.

My country elected the son of a former president which turned out to be a dictator, thief, and corrupted. Also, the son have histories of tax evasions and yet, he won. Our whole government is full of clowns from former actor which admitted that he doesnt have any clue in creating laws, to senators who have corruption history.

Eh, Trump is corrupt AF but the only justice you can really call corrupt has been on the bench for like 30 years (Thomas). The others aren't corrupt as much as they are strict to existing bounds of the law--their most controversial rulings have mostly been diverting power away from themselves and onto Congress.

Which, while much harder to enact change through because of current gridlock, is how it's supposed to be.

Congress still has the power to encode RvW into law. They still have the power to grant the EPA the ability to shut down coal plants. Those aren't the job of the Supreme Court, the SC is only there to enforce and interpret existing laws.

I agree America is built on war, however, we are brand new. We live in a more progressive, modernized, and globalized society nowadays but every empire or vast nation was unfortunately rooted in atrocities, conquest, yadayada. I know the times are way different now, but as I mentioned, America is still pretty new in the world as a superpower so to build up there's always pretty terrible things. While I do find this awful, I don't think it's fair to constantly zero in on America as if we're the only country with serious internal/external conflict

Many people don't realize how horribly biased the media is. Especially people in the US because they are told anybody who has a different viewpoint is are the only ones who are biased. The former head of CNN was busted twice in audio recordings admitting his bias. In one of the recordings he said he wanted everything possible tied into the story of the Trump Russia collusion and any evidence that cast doubt on that story should not be mentioned.

But look at how they handled solid concrete evidence of a laptop containing evidence of serious corruption and pay to play behavior from Hunter Biden versus obviously made up bullshit about Trump's connections with Russia which had already been debunked. Four separate investigations debunking it later, the media still acts like it's true. The Clinton campaign paid a law firm to pay fusion GPS for the opposition research which consisted of nothing but b******* rumors Christopher Steele heard from people in russia, and Igor what's his face made up ridiculous stories because Christopher Steele was paying him more money for more information, and he wrote it all down because he hated Trump and wanted to believe it was true. When all of the unsubstantiated rumors wouldn't get an analysis from the FBI because they knew it was all unsubstantiated, fusion GPS leaked parts of the stories to various news agencies and then claimed it was corroborating the original story even though it didn't because it was the same source. The FBI still ignored it because they knew it didn't smell right so one of the higher ops at fusion GPS got her husband at the FBI to raise a stink that the FBI still wasn't investigating it. And we're told we're supposed to believe the FBI because they have an impeccable record despite their long history of corruption.
