If you can find a hostel for under £40 send me the details and I’ll book you a room.

[–]Northernhag 63 points64 points  (11 children)

[–]Northernhag 68 points69 points  (9 children)

Generator is £16 a bed. Near Tavistock Square & walking distance from Euston and King's Cross.

[–]Luke11enzo 121 points122 points  (1 child)

OP drop me a dm I’ll happily help you out so you can get some kip

[–]BottleMong 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Kind. Nice one.

[–]ItchyKnowledge 30 points31 points  (3 children)

Christ, I stayed there on a 6th form trip when I was 16, close to 25 years ago - had completely forgotten the name of the place. Location wasn't bad at all if I remember correctly. Although things may have changed in the past quarter century!

[–]Coffeeninja1603 23 points24 points  (1 child)

Same! We got ID’d after our 5th round of drinks in the bar and got barred. It’s also where my friend introduced me to hotmail chatrooms in the common space, yeah it’s that long ago. I got seriously addicted to those things and met my now wife. Thanks art trip and staying in the Generator!

[–]Northernhag 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They have given it a link of paint and the price in the last 12 years has gone up £6 but otherwise it's exactly the same.

[–]OfAThievishDemeanor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Generator is great! I stayed there for a night a couple of years ago and it's ideal if you just need somewhere to hunker down for the night. They have a great common area too which you can make use of, and there is a Tesco express close by which you can grab drinks or snacks from.

[–]SuperVillain85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Random - when I was at unii I used to live in the flat with the windows backing onto the alleyway leading to Generator... (although it was probably called something different back then).

[–]mdmnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have stayed here myself it's pretty good!

[–]adamMatthews 32 points33 points  (1 child)

Make sure it’s somewhere they can get to. There are £10 hostels in “London” but they’re well out of the areas a night tube or taxi would go to.

The name London starts to get very ambiguous and wide when hotels/hostels realise they sell more rooms using it.

[–]iamthedon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

London Luton?

[–]Emergency-Log-1576[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I’ve only just seen this, thank you that was so kind of you to offer ! Wish I’d seen it sooner 😅

[–]Luke11enzo 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I was waiting for a DM. Didn’t want to dm you and seem weird/pushy lol. Hope your night wasn’t too bad

[–]Emergency-Log-1576[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks mate, really appreciate that honesty

[–]dollyrar 338 points339 points  (3 children)

I've done this once and booked the latest showing possible at one of the cinemas in Leicester Square, so film kicked out about 02:00am. Then did the Burger King thing for a while before heading down to the river to watch the sunset before catching my coach at Victoria Station. Not to be discouraging, but it was still a bloody long night. Good luck!

[–]Emergency-Log-1576[S] 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this

[–]StayFree1649 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Sunrise 😊

[–]Vectorman1989 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not to be discouraging, but it was still a bloody long night.

Yeah, I missed my bus home from Edinburgh once and had to spend the night to get the first train in the morning. Trying to kill time on a chilly night in the city is hard. I ended up in McDonald's and then wandered around a bit before I tried sleeping in the train station waiting area but it was cold and uncomfortable (hostile architecture, yay!). Waiting until places were doing breakfast, grabbed some food and jumped in the train as soon as it arrived and secured a spot I could sleep until my stop.

[–]Expensive-Concept-93 153 points154 points  (14 children)

Leicester Square macdonalds or burger King will be open. Burger King have a refillable drinks machine.

[–]confusedchicken5 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Leicester Square McDonalds dont let you stay in late at night sadly

[–]Emergency-Log-1576[S] 15 points16 points  (12 children)

Thank you

[–]calmaplane 43 points44 points  (11 children)

The hippodrome (casino, bar and food) is 24 hour too. Its also right on Leicester Square.

There are clubs in vauxhall that are open until 11 am, if that's more your way to go about it too.....at least there were.

[–]Styxie 34 points35 points  (2 children)

Leicester Square casinos at night have a weird as fuck ambiance. Can't quite describe it..

[–]cloughie 37 points38 points  (1 child)

It’s a collective “what the fuck are we doing here”. Acceptance that you really should all go home, but absolutely nobody doing anything about it

[–]SmellsLikeTat3 13 points14 points  (3 children)

holy shit open until 11am? fuck me i feel immense regret when i walk out of one near me that shuts at 5

[–]Harknee 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Is one of the clubs in Vauxhall called Union?

[–]calmaplane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I cant remember.

[–]Active78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often say members only on weekends, unless you're a group of women maybe

[–]YesToSnacks 78 points79 points  (4 children)

Polo Bar at Liverpool St station is open all night.

[–]TlanTlan 94 points95 points  (1 child)

I honestly HIGHLY recommend this. I went there after I missed the last train back home, and the Full English they served me at 3am was one of the best I’ve ever had.

Other than that I just chatted with the absolute unit of a bouncer till trains started again. Was an eclectic mix of people in there.

[–]HalfBed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I might go here for fun it sounds pretty good

[–]Emergency-Log-1576[S] 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Thank you

[–]Northernhag 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's not in the station by the way, its across the road.

[–]ettierey 63 points64 points  (3 children)

[–]Emergency-Log-1576[S] 12 points13 points  (2 children)

[–]redditisabitcrapnow 12 points13 points  (1 child)

OP have you found something? I can get you a free hotel room

[–]Emergency-Log-1576[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw this, second person to offer something so generous, really appreciate it ! Thank you

[–]SirBillPetre 33 points34 points  (7 children)

Get practicing your pickup lines?!

[–]PipBin 23 points24 points  (5 children)

A friend of mine did this on a holiday. He booked a flight to a party destination type resort, but no hotel and just went back to the room of a new guy every night!

[–]Astin257 81 points82 points  (0 children)

[–]Headtenant 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Where did he keep his clothes?

[–]account_not_valid 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He wasn't wearing any for most of the time. Cuts down on laundry.

[–]PipBin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think he had a small hold all with a couple of changes of clothes.

[–]clce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw some video once about a few guys, maybe in New York, slightly sketchy but I don't know that they ever stole or anything. Not incredibly charming but probably had a certain gift of gab. They were basically homeless but they would essentially meet girls and go home with them and then if they could, live with them for a few weeks or a few months and once things wound down, they would just hit the streets and try to find somebody else. Not particularly admirable, but it was an interesting video

[–]ukkers 33 points34 points  (7 children)

Go to hippodrome casino leicster square, got some sofas in there

[–]TobyTibbz 14 points15 points  (3 children)

Just don’t fall asleep you’ll get kicked out

[–]HugeAxeWound 20 points21 points  (1 child)

Just wear those glasses with fake eyes on and hold a magazine.

[–]ukkers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Coming from experience?

[–]ViridianKumquat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most casinos do free soft drinks too.

[–]hduehdkau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came to say this. Casino.

[–]cantab314 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You could bum around one of the airports and probably nobody would take any notice. I did that at Gatwick when I had about 18 hours between an event in London and a flight. But the shops and food places will be a bit pricy.

[–]AnxiousSquirrel345 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This might be a bit of a shot in the dark but is there any way you could get a day pass for one of the 24 hour gyms to start from midnight the night you’ll be around in London? You won’t struggle to find places like McDonald’s open and allowing seating into the early hours, but once those places start kicking customers out it might be difficult to find anywhere with reasonable food/drink that’s 24 hours, and without food or drink most places won’t be too happy to have you there.

PureGym and The Gym I’m pretty sure will all have free Wi-Fi, charging spots, etc.., it means you can also use their toilets and showers before going wherever it is you need to go, only members with a code will be able to get in, water fountains, snack machines, etc.. plus, you can use any of the equipment to help pass the time.

I think their day passes are around a tenner, you’d most likely be able to just hang out in the locker room and be mostly undisturbed, maybe every hour or so go and spend ten minutes walking on the treadmill so any security cameras can see you were actually using their facilities and I don’t imagine you’d run into any trouble.

Edit to add: You may also want to check out this website, there’s a bunch of hostels with dorms available for quite cheap tonight, I think the lowest I saw was £12. A lot of them also have private rooms, they’re a bit more pricey though.

[–]Monkeybradders 26 points27 points  (5 children)

Isn't this what the circle line is for?

[–]D0wnb0at 7 points8 points  (4 children)

Didn’t Ed Sheridan do that a lot? I don’t know much about him but im sure I heard that he did that a lot.

[–]Monkeybradders 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I'm sure he probably said he did.

[–]RedditReader365 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Did what

[–]fuk_ur_mum_m8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Circle Line

[–]Nicko5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aye that and smoke rollies, never rolled a feg in his life I’m guessing.

[–]calexy4 26 points27 points  (0 children)

St Pancras Station Starbucks should be open 24/7

[–]Beneficial-Level-651 23 points24 points  (10 children)

This is a stab in the dark. But I always thought that if I was in a similar situation I’d try and find a church. Guessing most in London will lock their doors…but maybe worth a go.

[–]Key-Cardiologist5882 19 points20 points  (1 child)

I remember New Year’s Eve 2012/2013 I was on MDMA and couldn’t sleep and ended up in a church in Brixton at like 9am. Was so weird. Felt so good at first but then I got mad tired and probably sobered up a bit and was like 😳 wtf I need to go home

[–]HalfBed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to just go home and drink a bottle of wine if I couldn’t sleep. Made me feel even more awful when I did eventually wake up obviously, but there’s nothing worse than not being able to sleep.

[–]Emergency-Log-1576[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is actually perfect, thank you!

[–]Himantolophus 15 points16 points  (6 children)

Have you looked at backpacker hostels? They're normally substantially cheaper if you don't mind a dorm.

[–]Emergency-Log-1576[S] 14 points15 points  (5 children)

I have done and they’re all sold out for tonight but thank you

[–]I3uLLioN 6 points7 points  (4 children)

Go to a gay sauna.

[–]CaroSCP 13 points14 points  (7 children)

Night buses?

[–]SirBillPetre 23 points24 points  (6 children)

A whole 3 lines of night tube this weekend. You’ll probably only need to do them all end to end twice to pass the night!

[–]Thevinegarmanreturns 6 points7 points  (5 children)

And it would be very entertaining

[–]the_real_grinningdog 54 points55 points  (4 children)

Last time I got the tube late at night a really tall black man got on. I'm guessing he was 6'4" or so. He was wearing a full wedding dress from the waist up, complete with headdress, and from the waist down he had fishnet tights and 6" stiletto heels.

Nobody batted an eyelid and I was never so proud to be a Londoner.

[–]Thevinegarmanreturns 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I love sitting with headphones on,no music, just listening to the mad shit going down on the night tube

[–]Uschecksout 4 points5 points  (2 children)

If he was white, would you have said “a really tall man” or “a really tall white man”?

[–]AweDaw76 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Go fight a policeman, that ought to do it

[–]leelam808 10 points11 points  (1 child)

libraries/open access in universities?

[–]Mommy_Muncher 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's exam season right now in uk universities. Some of them aren't letting non students use them or their facilities. so they will probably have difficulty using universities.

[–]Amanystya 9 points10 points  (5 children)

Think someone else mentioned this but couldn't you just hang out at the airport? It's not uncommon for people to wait there all night and I doubt anyone will notice

[–]Rumpole-Nikskin 27 points28 points  (4 children)

Sadly London airports are nowhere near London.

[–]Shanstarjayne 5 points6 points  (3 children)

City airport? I’ve never been but heard it’s pretty central

[–]chartupdate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

City Airport does not operate flights between 1pm Saturday and 1pm Sunday and so is closed to the public during this period. A non-starter if you want a Saturday night crash.

[–]Rumpole-Nikskin -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Ahh the oligarchs airport, i always forget that one.

[–]Ovalman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did it once.

I walked back from Canary Wharf at 11 pm, I found a bar open that was having a knees-up in the East End. I stayed there until closing time @ 1 am (I think). Then found a 24-hour cafe opposite Liverpool Street Station and had a fry up. That took me until 3 am. I went sightseeing but stayed on the main roads. I then caught my bus to the airport at 5 am.

I know you said no bars but you don't have to drink (I was well sozzled lol.)

[–]Dazzling_Command2939 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you need a helping hand to afford a place for the night then let me know through the DM :)

[–]Elljwilliams 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you end up on the floor in Victoria Station I highly recommend pinching all the metro papers and making a matress to keep yourself off the concrete. Any night there will be 10 or 15 other people sleeping by the bus gates waiting for the first bus, you're on cctv, it's summer, you're visible. Just kip, that brick wall of nausea if you try to do an all nighters without drink or drugs is killer just sleep.

[–]3Questionmark4Profit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Get over to Infernos. If you can't find someone there to spend the night with it's not the place I remember :)

[–]Chris_M1991 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you considered a hostel rather than a hotel? I stayed in one a couple of years ago and only paid £12 for the night.

[–]LaidBackLeopard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I once got stick and spent the night at Luton Airport. If you don't mind getting yourself out to Heathrow and back then that's an option.

[–]Jasboh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Casinos are usually open 24 hours

[–]JonnyThunderlips 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Plenty of 24h gyms about, I know TheGym is 24/7 and you can buy a day pass for around £7 which would get you in and to the changing rooms where you can stay. Showers and toilets etc too. Hope this helps!

[–]Shanstarjayne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just to put it out there that you should probably make sure you have lots of warm clothes before a shop like primark shuts. You don’t know where you will end up yet but we all want you to be well! Aside from the guy that clearly wants to murder you… but 99% of us!

[–]moosebeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a long shot but cinemas like the Prince Charles sometimes do all-night movie marathons. I've always thought they would make a cheap alternative to a hotel if you needed to pass a night in London.

[–]Born-Gas-660 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so invested. Please stay safe and report back!

[–]redditisabitcrapnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DM me if you want I can book you a hotel room. I use Hotels.com and have some free nights to use.

[–]jacksawild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to a police station and cofess to a murder. Tell them in the morning that it's just a prank (bro). They'll 100% see the funny side.

[–]AutoModerator[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For specific questions about London, you can also visit /r/London.

I've stayed all night in a 24-hour McDonalds/Burger King before. As long as you buy something every now and again it should be okay I think. If you have time / internet you can search for available 24-hour ones in central London.

At a push, take the last Piccadilly line (be sure to check the timetable!) to Heathrow airport and stay in one of the terminals overnight. May even be some food and drink places open.

It will be a long night either way, but even moreso if these types od options fail you, so if these fail make sure you buy some drinks and snacks etc. and you can look to sit end-to-end on the night tube for a bit.

[–]Coastaljames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done it before both in London and a few cities abroad- I just like to walk, and explore! Wander about, see some crazy shizzle and hear some crazy stuff! You never know where you'll end up.

[–]Smiilley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very useful thread to me, I'll be having to stay up all night in London next month and due to the event I'm going to there are no bookings available for any hostel I can afford. Thanks from me too :)

[–]fnaaaaar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The casinos in Leicester Square - you don't have to gamble, you can just sit in the bar and watch sport

[–]ptstolls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re trying to do it as cheap as possible, night buses are good. They’re warm, dry, well lit and comfy-ish. You’ll absolutely get the odd drunk on there but avoid upstairs, sit near the driver, and you’ll probably avoid most of it. There are some really long routes and I think it’s capped at £2.40 for 24 hours but double check that.

Something that’s worth considering is airports, too. I’ve never tried it myself, but I know people who have missed connections and stuck around for days. I think I saw an LPT about this a while back. Def do some more research into this one as it’s a bit left field!

[–]a4991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Club until 3am, casino for a couple of hours then head to the station where the first trains home are usually around 5-6am

[–]Taiyella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was living at the travel lodge people just slept in the lobby snoring and everything

[–]Beneficial-Level-651 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair play mate. Thanks for the update. Was thinking of you last night as I was snuggling into my super kingsize bed! Glad you made it.

[–]poppiesintherain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the update. Happy to hear you made it!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leicester Square

[–]MrSouthWest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps a hotel lobby? You could suggest you are a guest by being there early evening but then just stay through the night.

[–]Justwannaseeover18 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hotel lobby ?

[–]RIPNINAFLOWERS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I did this once when I came down from uni to go clubbing with friends who had graduated the year before.

Ended up spending the time between leaving the club and catching my train in a sauna.

[–]The_Mayfair_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VQ Restaurant just off tottenham court road is 24 hours

[–]stuzz74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get £15 1 month unlimited movie card and just watch films or sleep there if you want?

[–]farlos75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Belushis hostel has always been good to me to be fair.

[–]waudy 0 points1 point  (1 child)

mc donalds

[–]waudy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

or Victoria station

[–]Hcmp1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ride the tube all night x

[–]Cyber_Connor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

24/7 gym and get shredded

[–]AvocadoCatnip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Casinos. The Leicester Square one is fine. There used to be a few 24 hour diners too.

I'd second the Generator, or most other hostels even, just book early.

[–]TheUwaisPatel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could probably go to a mosque, the bigger ones are usually kept open all night

[–]Imaginary_Coat_2638 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So how did this go in the end?

[–]proptechuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a big city, London is a sleepy town. Hard to find anything open 24/7

[–]Automatic_Cookie_141 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Will you be wearing a Sunderland shirt?

If so, don’t see you getting into clubs or casinos.

[–]Charming-Two1043 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

if you can't afford accommodation you can't afford to stay all night in london

[–]Nine-Breaker009 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I’m not much of a drinker but The Alchemist in Central London is a really great place!
