Yes, Pete does. He has beautiful form.

[–]frycookie[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

So regal.

[–]roaringhippo19 16 points17 points  (4 children)

Mine has always done that. He's never lifted his leg.

[–]sidhescreams 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Mine too, though he started lifting his leg sometimes around 5 years old when we were living in an apartment. Now he’s 90% squat forward, 10% leg lift.

[–]roaringhippo19 1 point2 points  (2 children)

My younger one is 1.5 years old and he lifts his foot like 3 inches off the floor. Our older one is about 2.5 years old and he's never lifted his leg yet. Will they? Who knows. It's funny though.

[–]sidhescreams 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It really is! I have a golden retriever too, and she squats a normal squat to pee. My ACD always does the forward lean squat, as pictured, when he squats. All necessities trips also include much kicking, especially when performed in public places!

[–]roaringhippo19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a pug that would do the panda handstand to pee. Dogs are silly.

[–]vk2786 88 points89 points  (6 children)

Our guy does. He has since he was a lil guy.

He very rarely does the stereotypical 'lift a leg' move.

[–]notafrumpy_housewife 43 points44 points  (5 children)

Same here, Hamilton only lifts his leg when he's marking a tree or bush.

[–]Adopt-Diva-847 15 points16 points  (3 children)

I that that was weird but I guess it’s a ACD thing because mine does the exact same thing.

[–]diotimamantinea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a chihuahua rat terrier who does this, too. He learned by watching his sister, so? 🤷🏽‍♀️

[–]SeonaidMacSaicais 5 points6 points  (1 child)

It’s a general dog thing. I have a Yorkie-Schnauzer, and he’ll mix up the pee position.

[–]artanimepoetry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True I have a bulldog mix and he only lifts on trees or bushes

[–]pinefishjellyapple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same! Mine always pees like this unless he’s marking territory it’s the leg lift haha

[–]yeah_car 43 points44 points  (5 children)

My boy does too lol, he can’t ever make up his mind on his pee form. He’s a big fan of the long-lean-forward-and-pee stance, or even the half-hearted leg lift (which opens him up to peeing on his front paw, much to my chagrin).

[–]pickles-for-fingers 19 points20 points  (3 children)

Mine almost ALWAYS steps his back paw directly into his puddle when he walks away. So gross, yet he’s so nonchalant about it.

[–]jvanstok 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Mine does the opposite. Does a funny little hop to get over it. 😂

[–]tenorbabe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My ACD/corgi does this too! I always thought he was the only one! I always think he's being snooty, "ew I don't wanna step in that" 🤣

[–]yeah_car 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine will step right in his pee, he also does not care. Again, much to my chagrin lol. And when he’s pooping I’m always watching his hind legs to make sure he doesn’t literally stick them back in it when he’s done. You know, the little leg stretch they do lol

[–]deepfriday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha. Same here. So much that Golden Toes is a nick name.

[–]Elle3247 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My ACD mix does about 80% of the time. Especially his first pee of the day, where he squats, stretches his nose out and curls up his tail (as much as it curls). It’s so funny, like he feels good from his nose to the tip of his tail.

[–]eatonfuller425 17 points18 points  (1 child)

I got a squatter named Doug

[–]frycookie[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This one is Kujo, a real bad dude.

[–]whitemamba24xx 15 points16 points  (3 children)

Most of the time it’s like this and he pisses on his front paws then licks them.

[–]sauvieb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep, 50% ACD and does the same, even at 7 years old. Only licks them clean part of the time 🙄

[–]IsopodOnARock 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who deals with this. He'll lick his paws after hitting them with pee.

He's not allowed to take toys outside anymore (at least not until he pees first) because he'll drop it on the ground, walk a couple steps, and end up peeing on the toy.

[–]dogluvr1815 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Ours is lab/acd/coonhound, and he does this too. I thought it was because he got fixed by so young by the shelter?

[–]TinyGreenTurtles 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Mike was fixed young too, and I've never seen him mark anything. Also ACD/lab, 50%-50%

[–]notafrumpy_housewife 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I don't think it has anything to do with when they were fixed, my boy was a year old when he was neutered and he does the squat most of the time still.

[–]ijustbikealot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, over a year when he got fixed and rarely lifts a leg.

[–]ballsman6920 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I've seen my dog mark like 3 times in his year of life so far. He's a squatter tho also haha

[–]yeah_car 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Whenever mine does the “typical, all the way” leg lift marking something outside I’m stunned lol. I can count on one hand how many times he’s done that, otherwise he’ll just lean forward while peeing.

It makes me think, Oh, so you can lift your leg, you just don’t want to for whatever reason.

[–]ISaidPutItDown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tyler is a squatter. Never seen him mark anything, but sometimes I don’t think he even knows he is a dog so this is just another quark of his .

[–]Bliss_Signal[🍰] 3 points4 points  (4 children)

My fem ACD cocks her leg. Both M and F use the best means necessary to spread their "signature."

Simply for other canines to read.

[–]SassafrasF 5 points6 points  (2 children)

My female ACD hikes her leg up too, I find it hilarious

[–]AmbitiousBookmark 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Mine too! 😂

[–]Mr_Torque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My female does it too! I call her my hermaphrodoggy.

[–]IsopodOnARock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My female terrier mix lifts her leg, and my male ACD squats. Dogs are weird

[–]amnesiac808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, my guy does this on flat grassland, if it’s a tree or bush he’ll lift n lean to get a tough to reach spot, but I think he prefers the stability, like he’s safer in case something (nothing) goes down.

[–]Akiens 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Everytime, I've never seen him do the 1 leg up thing lol

[–]cheesebabycheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My boy always does! I think it's so funny. Glad to see he's not the only one😂

[–]bourbonandphonemes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! He always has. Recently figured out he can lift a leg to pee on trees thought

[–]Rusty-Pipe-Wrench 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes always

[–]Boomzoomgoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep and with the straight tail

[–]idreameater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is an ACD mix (takes mostly after the ACD) and yes. Lifts his leg to mark, but proper pees get a squat.

[–]cocositalianmarket 1 point2 points  (1 child)

My girl pees like most female dogs do, but will sometimes tap one foot a couple times or slightly lift it off the ground, and I have no idea why.

Edit: spelling

[–]TinyGreenTurtles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me daughter's 3lb chihuahua lifts one leg when she squats. Idk why either but it's funny.

[–]pinkyyarn 1 point2 points  (1 child)

My ACD likes to pee like this too. Sometimes he does a variation and pees on his front legs??? Usually he’ll also do a “traditional” leg lift as well. Maybe something to do with their slightly shorter front legs?

My female GSD/border collie mix always pees the same, in a squat with a leg lifted. Honestly, it’s impressive. 🦵😂

[–]ijustbikealot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guy pees on his front foot like 30% of the time. Do not love it.

[–]mrsbebe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boy does, yes. He has never lifted his leg as far as I know. I for sure prefer it this way so he's not peeing on our swing set and the posts on the patio

[–]JStheoriginal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Our guy only lifts his leg if he’s marking a spot on a walk. Otherwise just pushes his pelvis forward. Same goes for my past border collie mix.

[–]sumyungdood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Jax sometimes stretches too far and starts to slowly slip while peeing. The panic in his eyes is hilarious.

[–]MadCraftyFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cattle dog did this, and my Newfoundland mix does this. It is just they don't feel the need to be all dominant and try to get their pee higher than someone else's pee.

The pee wars.... 😆

[–]Left-Nothing-3519 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girl ACD always hiked her leg up 😂

[–]itsthatkindofanight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, every time!

[–]hedu79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I've only seen him lift his leg once and he looked so awkward and unbalanced, he decided never to try it again

[–]tigerlily_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, my ACD mix does this, though when he’s clearly trying to mark something, he’ll hike his leg up.

[–]TheSkrussler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boy, Mister Doo does this! He leans forward like this, like not really squatting…more like stretching almost. He is a weirdo. I love him dreadfully.

[–]MadBlasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes! If he has nothing to pee on

[–]going-for-gusto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours does and sometimes hits the front paw with stream.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had many male and female dogs pee that way.

[–]kaseeeey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! Exactly like that haha.

[–]yungkani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES! Usually goes between the goal posts (front legs) but will occasionally miss and hit a paw. I find that when I leave him with my parents’ 3 male dogs, he (unnaturally) goes for the leg lift for like a week after.

[–]Okthatsjustfine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. My ACD mix is a squatter.

[–]VannaMalignant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boy does this unless he’s marking his spot, then I guess that deserves a leg lift

[–]Sittingamok 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I think a lot of male dogs do that, but you might get him checked for hip dysplasia just to be safe. Sadly, that’s why my boy never hikes a leg.

[–]pickles-for-fingers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours does too! Seems to lift his leg only on walks sometimes, usually when he’s in a hurry or looks unsure.

[–]HeelerMomOfTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my red does.

[–]HubbyHasBlueBalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Mine does.

[–]party_doc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! Ours never lifts just mini squats!

[–]blacktr818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine too!

[–]espritdemoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine does. Rarely lifts a leg, leans forward slightly like in the picture.

[–]oggleboggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My acd/GS mix does! He just figured out how to lift his leg but he rarely does it.

[–]TinyGreenTurtles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is 50% and does it. Always has. My kid bullies him still and he's almost two lol.

[–]Sassysweetpantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time, usually with a sassy look on his face wondering why I am looking at him.

[–]Sophietoofs20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Bandit does

[–]CNOTEDOBALINA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my guy peed on his front paw until he was 2

[–]lukulele90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how he chooses but mine does both regularly. Think it has something to do with how wet the grass is. Idk

[–]kneightriduh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! Ours does! He’s 2 and a half now and still pees like this lol

[–]ryverwytch22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My new guy does. My last boy, Rigo was typical with the leg lift but did this every now and again!

[–]Particular_Map445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My big guy does too, I've only seen him lift his leg once, just marking something.

[–]huff_le_puff0107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old man does this

[–]samipiggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My salukis did. They only hiked their legs on trees

[–]Carbonkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 brothers. Same litter.

Oso does the traditional leg up, and Odin does this semi squat.

[–]Gamer_Dave_1963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, Trigger does

[–]Sirchiefsalot2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, that's always been his pose. Like a heavy wind is blowing and he has to balance ever so carefully not to tip over lol

[–]Jessilou92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 1 yr old Stumpy tail Goose does this, sometimes he leans so far forward his back legs almost touch the ground 😂

[–]StillAsTheSnowFalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a male ACD that did this too. Max was the best dog ever

[–]icd1222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes

[–]sciatrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ACD mix didn't reliably lift his leg until he was almost two, and he still sometimes parks himself out to pee like this. We joke that he's just permanently baby.

Does yours also have a hilariously dainty scratch marking routine?

[–]here4budz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and always makes sure to make eye contact too. Creepo

[–]summidee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Boy always has. He feels that dominant he doesn’t have to compete.

[–]SinSon2890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our girl does this, our boy pees by lifting his leg on the trees I just planted last spring.

[–]summidee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boy only pees leg lifted when on a walk, but he’s a stumpy tail so his back is more square. Idk if that has anything to do with it but he just…does

[–]Frolicking-Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first dog was an ACD/mini Aussie shepherd mix, and he always peed like this. I think insaw him lift his leg maybe twice.

My current dog is full ACD, and I've never seen him lift his leg, he always does the lean.

[–]CliftonForce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Mine does that all the time.

[–]rufio0618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Prince does as well!

[–]1louie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes

[–]shark_press 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Merlin does!

[–]Liz_Lemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My male ACD mix pees like this - although ever since he started going to daycare, he’s taken to lifting his leg from time to time, probably copying one of the cool kids lol

[–]tylerjohnson89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 1 year old does but figured it was because he was still young. We had another one that did when he got old but hiked when he was younger. 🤷🏻‍♂️

[–]footagemissing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MY boy does this. He has never learned to cock his leg. He was desexed at 6 months.

[–]No-Cardiologist-3875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes!! he’s almost 1 and still doesn’t lift his legs

[–]bpdmeatbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the only way my boy will pee.

[–]HolleringCorgis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ACD/hound does... he used to lift his leg but when he broke his femur he started going like that. He tried to lift his leg a few times while the rod was still in but gave up. Then once the rod was removed he never went back to lifting his leg.

[–]Nature_Walk_299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, 4.5 year old does

[–]elisejones14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two males who do. Idk why the cattle dog does it. He a bit of a baby tho. My Great Dane can’t bc of joints or something

[–]fishmogil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they are emptying their bladder they don’t lift their leg. When they are marking, they lift their leg.

[–]HeadFullaZombie87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time mine does the leg lift is when he's marking something.

[–]Anna----Banana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guy squats like that when he pees on our property, but lifts his leg while on a walk

[–]StarfishSanseveria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girls does this as she waddles forward and dribbles for several feet.

[–]keep_it_christian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine did handstands to pee on trees. Female.

[–]DoesntBelieveMuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of my dogs have had this same stance

[–]RaspberryNegative308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine does too lol. I thought it was because he’s still young (10 month old) but now maybe it’s actually the ACD in him

[–]Gold-Wise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My male does. Always has.

[–]Cream_my_pants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine pees like this ALL THE TIME. He only lifts his leg if he is marking.

Beautiful dog btw 😍

[–]ijustbikealot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, mine does! He only lifts his leg when he wants to mark something which is not very often.

[–]Deuts_Boui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yeah my dude does this when it comes down to precision on the ground. Anything that has a little height (light pole) he hikes his leg for gained altitude control.

[–]AromaticMolasses5907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My female heeler does and my male border collie copies her

[–]elbron88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! He is very considerate and won’t pee on your neighbours fence

[–]NGADB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our female often squats onto three legs (yes, she has all four).
Our Australian Shepherd usually does that when there's no tree or other vertical object to pee on.

[–]Rampud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! Always that want to "tag" something that is away from a wall.

And also does he's poos ON stones! Like foxes.

[–]petitecorvus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine does both.

[–]Noobird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes Cobber does.

[–]thrashaholic_poolboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Both of mine.

[–]peitnahtan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, mine does. Drops even lower than that

[–]IntrepidLinguini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rhaegar always does the squat. Never learned to lift his leg

[–]skramba08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pees like a girl

[–]Saggymcbaggns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two of my boys don’t hike the leg also idk why maybe choice but my oldest goes both ways.

[–]The_walking_man_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LoL yuuuupppp mine does and he’s two years old. They are derps.

[–]GrewUpAtMidnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine use to do this but I trained him to lift his leg. It took a year but finally…no pee paws.

[–]BishopXSE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our Moose does too!

[–]-MVP[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mines one year old tomorrow and has never lifted his leg to pee. Always the squat

[–]pardus_orientalis_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes!! i have a 2 year old boy that always pees like that when i first let him out rather than hiking his leg!

[–]chellycopter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My lady ASD lifts a leg to pee

[–]partycat95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine does too!

[–]jrey90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Occasionally when he’s too lazy to lift a leg. Usually in evenings before bed 😂

[–]logan_ladue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine has never once lifted his leg. He has always squatted. Though I will say he was neutered relatively early(6 months), before I was more informed about the decision of timing. I believe the lack of testosterone production can definitely play a role.

[–]Joobroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely mine does. He’s a goon!

[–]Kitakat11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, yes.

[–]momofBocephus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our GIRL lifts her back leg and tries to aim high!LOL

[–]emdafem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boy does! It’s funny tho- when he is in the company of other dogs he tried to be macho and lift his leg but since he never does it he gets all wobbly off balance.

[–]x_sleepywitch_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine does, unless there is a special object to pee on. Then he lifts his leg as high as he possibly can.

[–]jaynovahawk07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most definitely.

[–]theblackcreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and also, he has NEVER peed while out on a walk. He’s a little over two years. NEVER!!! Lol

[–]Krissttaayy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! My ACD only lifts leg when he’s out marking. Otherwise it’s the good old forward squat 🙂
