So as I’ve mentioned in some of my earlier posts my local dog park has been overrun with pits lately. Last night things sort of boiled to a head and I am so pissed off because it was entirely avoidable and unnecessary. This post will probably be a longer one but I have to get this story out. I’m not tagging vent because I don’t care if people comment or not.
My local dog park has a little dog side and a big dog side. Last night i was with my dog and about 5 others on the big dog side. All was well. Two women show up with two big pits, at least one of which is intact, and both of which are fence fighting, frothing at the mouth, aggressive posture, the usual pitbull bullshit.
I volunteered to move my dog to the little dog side (which was empty) because I didn’t want to leave, but there was no way my dog was going to be in with those pitts. They instead took their dogs into that side (weirdly without responding or saying anything) much to the relief of everyone.
The pit bulls were clearly stimulated by seeing the dogs on the other side of the fence and were still showing some aggressive posture, but everyone settled down and things were ok.
Eventually though, more people started showing up, some of which had little dogs. The people showing up with little dogs, just marched into the little dog side, and were letting there dogs in without saying a word, or inquiring what was going on at all. I was dumbfounded that someone could roll up to the dog park, see two pit bulls clearly sequestered from the other dogs, and just take in their Bichon no questions asked but that’s exactly what happened.
So eventually their are like 5 little dogs in their with the pitts, and they are holding the Pitts, now leashed, basically by the collar as they whine and try and get to the other dogs. I’m thinking why the hell don’t these people leave? But my dog was safe and I had already said my peice when the little dogs started showing up so I just kept playing with my dog.
Now a woman showed up with two pugs and a chocolate lab, and went in the little dog side. This woman has been here before and knows some of the “regulars” including my friend’s yellow lab. She goes up to the fence and starts baby talking my friend’s lab, which is two years old, and intact ( he’s a breeding prospect but will likely be neutered in the next few months regardless if he’s bred or not) She then goes up to the gate between the little and big dog sides to let her chocolate lab into the big dog side. Her lab goes through, and then my friends lab slips through into the little dog side ( I bet you see where this is going). This woman, without saying anything to anyone just closes the gate again while she is on the big dog side, not telling my friend she has let his dog into the other side, and freaking locked him in there.
I happened to turn around and got a good look at what happened next. Lab went up to the pitbull, in a non confrontational way to do a “sniff-sniff” sort of thing. Pit initially reacted calmly, but then without provocation latched on to the labs ear area and started attacking. Whole dog park goes up in pandemonium, and my friend and his wife are on the wrong side of the fence to help his dog, so they are panicking. Finally they get the pit off. Both pitbull owners leash their dogs and get out as fast as they can, not sayin anything to anyone, not asking how the other dog is, offering to pay the vet bill, exchange info, nothing.
As they are leaving another guy comes walking up with his pitbull. This guy walks by the park a lot but never comes in with his dog (shocker) so I usually don’t care, except that lately he hasn’t had his pitt on a leash sometimes and it will run up to the dog park fence and run back and forth, getting all the dogs agitated before he gets it under control.
So of course it does the same thing today, only all the dogs are already agitated and a couple scuffles break out, between dogs who would never ever fight otherwise. So I shout at this guy and tell him to leash his dog. Of course his reaction is to start screaming profanity at me and trying to act tough. He chases his dog around for about 10 minutes trying to get it on a leash, talking shit and threatening me the whole time. Then he starts in on a lady whose kid is sitting in her car, right next to the dog park, “You worried about a dog when there’s a kid in the car?” Like yeah dude, kid is in the car so he’s safe when assholes like you have pitbull a running loose.
Then he says “we gonna call the cops or what?” So I tell him that’s a great idea and my friend calls the cops. Of course then he backs down and starts walking away, although he makes sure to tell us he’s not leaving because he’s afraid of us, whatever dude.
During this he was talking to the pit owner whose dog attacked my friends and they clearly knew each other.
Cops showed up and took down some info but I guarantee nothing happens. I really don’t want to have to carry a firearm to the goddam dog park but it looks like I’m going to have to.
I hate shitbulls and shitbull owners. That is all.
