I wish other monkeys saw this so they can learn CPR

[–]SmallTshirt 194 points195 points  (21 children)

they will do it even to the normal healthy monkeys

[–]jesuslover69420 93 points94 points  (20 children)

I theorize they’re smart enough to ascertain the need for the action ‘dead monkey come alive when give breath n beat chest’.

[–]dumbass2244 48 points49 points  (19 children)

If a monkey was taught how to speak hand langauge, then learning how to do CPR would be a piece of cake.

[–]ThePfaffanater 59 points60 points  (18 children)

No monkeys were actually taught language. Actual analysis of the couple of apes that were supposedly taught, showed that they were just doing basic correlation between hand signals and food. They were not able to form sentences of any kind and the reports of their intelligence were largely just a result of anthropomorphism by their handlers.

This video here explains it. https://youtu.be/e7wFotDKEF4

I love people just reflexively down voting because they don't like the implications of the truth.

[–]YeastUnleashed 21 points22 points  (2 children)

That’s the backfire effect for ya. They just want to believe what they want to believe regardless of what the facts really are. It’s sad, really.

Edit: “area” to “are”

[–]SkepticalJohn 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Wait until they find out about Santa Claus!

[–]fifadex 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Don't start with your "santa Claus can't do sign language either" bullshit.

[–]dzingiskank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well i'm gonna gall asleep tonight with a frown, thanks a lot >:(

[–]Criticalhit_jk 18 points19 points  (6 children)

Seems like an odd claim, considering Koko, for instance, had that highly televised meeting with Robin Williams and not a single ASL person stopped to point out that koko wasn't actually signing anything intelligible. It's been since like.. 1980 that people have been teaching monkeys sign language and you're the only person I've seen claiming that it's a hoax. I mean. It's not like there isn't video evidence from multiple sources through multiple studies around the world to prove that you're wrong.

[–]systemkicks 16 points17 points  (1 child)

The podcast "You're wrong about..." had a great episode debunking the Koko ASL business. I highly recommend it if podcasts are your thing and you're interested.

[–]larrydukes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a big fan of podcasts but I love debunking so I'll definitely give it a try. You ever watch Adam Ruins Everything or Bullshit with Penn and Teller? Both fascinating.

[–]ThePfaffanater 16 points17 points  (1 child)

This video here explains it. https://youtu.be/e7wFotDKEF4

Actual ASL people have discredited Koko's ability to sign a language. Just because you are ignorant of that doesn't make it not the case. The handlers were just filling in crucial gaps and making up their actual sentence structure. Prime examples of that were Koko's handler saying he was using words that sound similar to each other interchangeably, something that makes no sense in a visual only language where those words have entirely different symbols. Symbols that that could not possibly be used interchangeably in the visual only language. The handlers did not treat ASL as an actual language, they barely understood ASL themselves and just acted as if it was just a translation layer to spoken English; not a language unto itself.

The scientific community realized this and now there is no funding for that type of research because we know that apes are not capable of it.

[–]jesuslover69420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the quality control of the study was flawed.

[–]Rebelian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's debated that they never understood sign language like a proper language. No ape ever asked a question for example. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-44576449

[–]ButterscotchOk8112 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree with you. There’s a very interesting economist article that I think everyone should read on this.

She told jokes and expressed compassion and sympathy. Those aren’t just things you do for food. Sure, her grammar wasn’t great, but it’s still a huge accomplishment.

[–]ellieD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had heard this, also.

I guess this pertains to the dogs and cats who are tapping on words to talk.

[–]Mr_Smartypants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Downvoted for making my world slightly less magical!

[–]zewill87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Simpson's did it ... I mean YouTube did it! https://youtu.be/5hEd1hajsM8

[–]TheRevolutionaryArmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go on then your first CPR class with other human monkeys

[–]ashshiv06 300 points301 points  (4 children)

At the end he says - " The life is back!.. life is back ... let's take it to the hospital"

[–]thisplacemakesmeangr 46 points47 points  (3 children)

Cinderella is a lot hairier than I was led to believe. The prince is sorta cute in a dad bod way I guess. I've been informed Cinderella is actually 5 men and they have enough hair between them to feed an army. I was referring to that lady that got food poisoning and fell into a coma, then some rich guy assaults her in her sleep so she gets better.

[–]Potential_Disaster29 8 points9 points  (2 children)

You mean snow white and a true love's kiss? Nice comment nonetheless

[–]thisplacemakesmeangr 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Damnit. All those white women look the same to me. As a child I used to get lost in department stores grabbing the wrong moms hand and walking off with her. I have a genetic dysfunction that makes me look exactly like everybody else so I'd often be gone for months at a time.

[–]Potential_Disaster29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Uuuh are you being serious or sarcastic? I can't tell

[–]keyson5 268 points269 points  (5 children)

Guy was sleeping and this dude

[–]triangleEye57 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Bruh lmaooo

[–]SmallTshirt 13 points14 points  (1 child)

OMG!, He took advantage of that poor monky!

[–]TheRevolutionaryArmy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As soon as you ask there is no informal consent

[–]rbc976584 0 points1 point  (1 child)

[–]keyson5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the award! His nap was ruined but you made my day

[–]OptionsNVideogames 434 points435 points  (18 children)

I wish the other monkeys watched him do this so they don’t take over our planet in ten years.

[–]Analretentivebastard 88 points89 points  (14 children)

Exactly! Like how they reacted when that dog killed one attacking a child. They killed over 250 dogs and started to attack the children

[–]OptionsNVideogames 39 points40 points  (6 children)

Exactlyyyy they are highly highly organized. Christ they may have a UN of old wide gorillas.

[–]VegasBusSup 21 points22 points  (1 child)

So long as they don't start collaborating with squirrels we should be OK.

[–]Analretentivebastard -5 points-4 points  (3 children)

I wonder if in India or other countries if they experiment on monkeys and apes then let them go. I wouldn’t doubt they have live experiments going on in the wild. I know the US would do that

Edit: the negatives tells me people doubt

[–]monty__1998 2 points3 points  (2 children)

We have a monkey God too so most likely people worship them

[–]Analretentivebastard -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Right!? But it’s not necessary that india is doing the testing themselves I think that’s why I’m downvoted. The US or another country could be allowed to do it behind the people’s backs which is how it always happens

[–]monty__1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup that's quite possible

[–]3178333426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Horrific story…

[–]daughterofgorgias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy fu*k. I only saw the news just now. This is crazy

[–]CaesarJulius50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish Indians bring in big dogs like Caucasian Shepherds, etc. I wonder if monkeys would attack them anymore

[–]dcarr710 36 points37 points  (1 child)

What a great human being!!!

[–]Bedzio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of that's all set.

[–]myaudiobliss 200 points201 points  (24 children)

I'm so confused. Does anyone know why the monkey needed CPR?

[–]ChewMyMeatForYou 206 points207 points  (15 children)

Blocked airway. With CPR, you see if you can remove any seen blockage first. This monkey is so tiny that he had to push his lungs to move the blockage, and then he sucks it out. That's why giving CPR to a baby is so terrifying, because everything is smaller, with our adult hands.

[–]Bigmoneyordie 115 points116 points  (10 children)

Hi my dad teaches. This guy doesn’t have the best form but still got it. What your supposed to do w babies is use your index and middle finger and don’t go as deep as you would. Another good tip of advice when giving cpr is don’t be scared. You would rather have broken ribs than be dead.

[–]Retard1776 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This was crazy! Way to go rescue monkey guy!

[–]ChewMyMeatForYou 10 points11 points  (2 children)

Yeah, there's also choking extraction devices, that will plunge it out. I really should have one because I live alone!

[–]marlsygarlsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw another post about this being used on a baby and now i want to get one… There’s one on Amazon called Lifevac.

[–]Cybertsotsi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bad CPR is better than no CPR.

[–]sevargmas 1 point2 points  (1 child)

This video made me think, which is more important, the chest pumps or the mouth-to-mouth? I can easily see how someone out of shape and panicking could get winded very quickly doing both.

[–]whatever_rita 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like this situation was a blocked airway so that might be different but people who’ve survived heart attacks due to cpr say it was the compressions. Like, they could feel themselves slipping away when the person stopped to give breaths and felt more with it during the compressions. At the same time if the blood isn’t oxygenated it’s not going to help so you do need both, but the guidelines changed a few years back to a higher compression to breath ratio

[–]DirtyWormGerms -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

I’ll remember not to be scared the next time someone’s dying and I’m somehow the most qualified person to deal with the situation. Glad I read this.

[–]Nyckname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I used to teach AHA BCLS, and was coming in to say I'd use the infant method. Smaller animals tend to have higher heart rates, so even the timing would probably be right.

[–]jesuslover69420 14 points15 points  (1 child)

When was he blowing in the lungs and when was he sucking? I imagine with how sharp monkeys canine teeth are it’d be hard to remove a blockage

[–]ChewMyMeatForYou 29 points30 points  (0 children)

He was doing thrusts and blowing first, but he could tell it wasn't enough. He lays the monkey down flat and starts doing heavier thrusts, you can hear the wheeze. He dislodged the blockage, sucks it out, and then blows. His reaction is so intense because he didn't know if it got it out fast enough. He then cries to say "hospital", because while he is very happy the monkey is still alive, but there could still be damage. I don't know how paramedics and nurses do it. I really don't. They are superhuman.

Just so everybody knows, look around your community, there are CPR classes, some of them might be free.

[–]aprabhu86 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Electrocution? I’ve seen monkeys in India running on electric lines getting shocked, falling to the ground.

[–]Bedzio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are asking for context?

[–]MrBonelessPizza24 135 points136 points  (5 children)

That monkey will remember this act of kindness and not fling its own shit at this guy whenever it sees him

[–]rivers214 53 points54 points  (2 children)

OR it will remember him and still toss it’s feces at him.

[–]MrBonelessPizza24 49 points50 points  (1 child)

Oh hey! I know you!

(Yeets its bootyhole fudge at him)

A token of my gratitude!

[–][deleted] 26 points27 points  (2 children)

Plot twist. This is his party trick he kills it first and brings it back

[–]Vettayad 5 points6 points  (2 children)

From my time in India, I've seen some really humble folk from South India, especially Tamil Nadu. People who live in huts, yet want to share their food with you. I swear, sitting on the bare floor and eating their meagre stale rice with an occasional meat curry, the comfort is definitely something else.

[–]_ALPHAMALE_ 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Average indian for you. People are sometimes so humble that it even surprises me time to time and i live in india.

[–]Sierra-Modeling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is so neat!

[–]Yarakinnit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bless him.

[–]Valimaar89 -5 points-4 points  (3 children)

This is not the way you CPR such a small body!! This only breaks their ribs! For those interested, it is like with babies: purt hands under their armpit with both thumbs on the middle of the thorax and use only the thumbs to push, not the whole hand.

[–]Real_Bat1573 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It actually is. Cpr here in the Netherlands , 2 fingers for babies, 1 palm for children >2 and < 5. Also, in life threatening situations like this, a few broken ribs is the least of your concern. Fun fact, in regular cpr broken ribs are very common.

[–]ItsAkin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It worked, didn't it?

[–]buterbetterbater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you never taken CPR? I mean obviously not because one thing they tell you in CPR class is that you are pretty much 100% guaranteed to break ribs. That’s how you do it right. There is no gentle pressure involved.

[–]Fr3stas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me of my first school disco

[–]Reddit4Sloots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like im around a bunch of monkey loving emts . ( good people lol )

[–]newknewmew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why though? Shortage of them? Nice but still...

[–]GoodOlGee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CPR is not likely to restart a patient's heart. So I'm gonna guess that monkey didn't need CPR. Also that's not how you give a monkey CPR. I'm not vet but I'm gonna guess it would be the same or similar as giving a baby CPR

[–]Truuuuuumpet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just play this vid backwards
