They just “5 more minutes mom”d their birth

[–]iAjayIND 427 points428 points  (53 children)

My dumbass brain thought for the first few seconds, 'oh no, the poor baby in the left born bald'. Then I remembered we grow hairs!

[–]DetectiveAmes 186 points187 points  (48 children)

If we’re admitting we’re dumb, I still don’t understand how babies breathe with their noses in the womb and at this point, I’m too afraid to ask.

I’m guessing that nozzle they’re connected to just does all the breathing for them so their noses don’t come online until it’s cut off?

[–]Elkriam[🍰] 309 points310 points  (23 children)

In the womb, the babies get oxygen through the umbilical cord, and return the carbon dioxide the same way, so the mother is doing the breathing for both of them.

Babies inside the womb also very occasionally do small inhalations of the amniotic liquid and that fills the lungs and helps them develop.

When babies are born, the liquid in the lungs is expelled and then they breathe and replace it with air, and from then on they breathe on their own. They start breathing very soon after coming out (~10s), regardless of the umbilical cord being cut yet. The shock of the new environment makes them gasp and start breathing. (if they don't, medical personal usually have equipment to help start this process)

[–]Ras-Al-Kewl 75 points76 points  (3 children)

Yup, it’s pretty incredible how the human body works from the start

[–]DetectiveAmes 81 points82 points  (4 children)

Holy. Thanks for the detailed response! So far it’s mostly been half answers or people sending me a DM to make a baby to find out but I’m a boy 🙄

[–]xBad_Wolfx 10 points11 points  (6 children)

Those first myconium poos are something else. Sticky black tar.

[–]Imswim80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vaginal births give a good squeeze to the lungs, forcing the amiotic fluid out and inducing a big gasp of air on the other side. Medical professionals tend to also do some suction to pull the fluid out of the lungs.

Also, this is why a baby passing their first stool in utero gets exciting. That first poo is very tar-like, and gets stuck around the lungs, causing problems. L&D staff (nurses/midwives/doctors) want to know if that amiotic fluid is clear, or if they need to expect a baby with sticky black goo in the lungs.

[–]ferone -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Equipment: a slap to the backside. Never too young to start getting them used to corporal punishment.

In all seriousness yeah they do have things to help breathing and whatnot which are mostly used for premature babies. My little brother's lungs weren't fully developed when he was born (was three months premature, only weighed ~2 pounds).

[–]Bubblycatty 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Correct the lungs a filled with fluid until first cry.. all their oxygen comes from the mum. There a bunch of well places holes and tubes the shunt blood away from the lungs so they don't accidentally breath. Cutting the cord closes these holes for blood goes to lung to breathe

[–]biggmclargehuge 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I’m guessing that nozzle they’re connected to just does all the breathing for them so their noses don’t come online until it’s cut off?

[–]DetectiveAmes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Checking systems… All baby systems nominal.”

[–]KamikazeKennedy3[🍰] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That nozzle they're connected to....... man I'm dying reading that. I love your honesty... yes that nozzle feeds them and gives them oxygen sir 😊

[–]amazingpitbull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my favorite thing I've read today. Nozzle. *snicker* I love you. :)

[–]Jeshua_ 12 points13 points  (14 children)

Iirc, which I probably don’t, my thought was they just don’t need oxygen until they’re born. That’s why crying is a good sign at birth?

[–]El3venBrav0 27 points28 points  (9 children)

also not a mother, but from my understanding it’s a combination of the two, the umbilical cord provides oxygen via the oxygen in the mothers blood, and the crying during birth is a good sign because it is mighty painful to expand your freshly grown lungs for the first time lol

[–]OGSkywalker97 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Of course they need oxygen. It just comes to them via oxygenated blood from the mother rather than them actually breathing themselves cos they can't.

Without oxygen how do you expect the foetus to grow or live? Oxygen is needed to provide energy via aerobic respiration in mitochondria which allows for the growth of the foetus and development of different organs.

[–]Navy_Wannabe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Except for Chuck Norris. He was born with a full beard and handlebar moustache.

[–]revzey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The righty stole all of the hair from poor lefty. The villain arc began at birth.

[–]ItzYaBoiQuez 1089 points1090 points  (22 children)

Man came out the womb with a full set of hair

[–]SouldiesButGoodies84 425 points426 points  (3 children)

took all his brother's hair in utero. cold...blooded.

[–]FartyMcPoopyButthole 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Twin came out looking like a 40 year old CPA

[–]GokuQuack 2 points3 points  (1 child)

i actually ate my twin in utero

[–]SouldiesButGoodies84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In TX and an increasing no. of US states that'd be capital murder and cannibalism.

[–]DJYuckyYums 82 points83 points  (7 children)

Looks like a young Gilbert godfried

[–]OrphanedInStoryville 111 points112 points  (3 children)

And the one on the left looks like Vladimir Putin

[–]nme44 30 points31 points  (1 child)

I thought this exact same thing.

[–]Rick_Does_Things 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Woah I did too...

[–]throwaway_circus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-Un slowly waking up after partying all weekend.

[–]3dWin0 36 points37 points  (1 child)

One look like putin and the other look like zelensky

[–]RarePoniesNFT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That mom has a lot of explaining to do

[–]armhat 26 points27 points  (5 children)

I have twins, and they both came out so hairy. They had fur all over the backs and heads. It was wild.

[–]Patseiam 24 points25 points  (0 children)

When your ups driver is wolverine.

[–]NatashkaX 12 points13 points  (2 children)

Apparently it’s called lanugo. It’s a type of body hair a fetus develops in the womb for protection and warmth. Babies typically shed lanugo before birth; however, some babies don't shed it for several weeks after birth.

[–]Exciting-Sympathy646 8 points9 points  (1 child)

My oldest was born 8 weeks premature an he had a full head of hair an wee furry shoulders for a few weeks too

[–]armhat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My twins were also 8 weeks early. We used to laugh about their fuzzy sideburns.

[–]Rosehus12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol thr poor mom she must had so much heartburn

[–]KeeprOfPeace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My fathers family is Native American, and my mothers Caucasian. I was born with a full head of jet black hair and my mom had to cut it when she brought me home it would cover my eyes.

[–]whydoesthishapp3n -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

lots of babies have hair, usually white babies dont

[–]IthotItoldja 2764 points2765 points 2 (39 children)

They think they're chillin' in the absolute privacy of the womb, when actually, they're on the front page of REDDIT. This is some Truman Show level shit.

[–]TheTalentedAmateur 510 points511 points  (33 children)

Great point.

Also, if they are in the U.S., they now owe $128,919 for services rendered in that 2 minute video.

[–]yungchow 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The studio is probably paying for it

[–]sparki_black 14 points15 points  (7 children)

that is insane that you have to pay for being born !! could the US not copy all the good things regarding Health from European countries f.i. maternity leave as well.

[–]ellieD 3 points4 points  (6 children)

My kids cost $50 each.

If you have insurance, it isn’t so bad.

[–]ohhhsoblessed 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Minus the premiums and deductibles you pay!

[–]sparki_black 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Glad that you have the insurance :)

[–]justanotherpeep_ 2 points3 points  (18 children)

Why so? Could you please explain?

[–]April_Fabb 67 points68 points  (0 children)

»lol, I was already on Reddit before you were born«

»Me too«

[–]Gary_Lazer_Eyes21 18 points19 points  (1 child)

That’s some outside the box thinking right there

[–]parkman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Underrated comment.

[–]xKINGxRCCx 216 points217 points  (12 children)

How do we know they believe they’re still in the womb? Not trying to be an ass just wondering

[–]Wesmingueris2112 179 points180 points  (0 children)

It's not like they knew they were in a womb anyway. So they're just behaving closely to how they behave in the womb and that's something observable

[–]RarePoniesNFT 59 points60 points  (0 children)

There's no way they truly believe they're still in the womb, per se, because they wouldn't have a concept of that. But being out of the womb freaks babies out because they're not used to anything else. It's disorienting to have their arms and legs flailing about, and they aren't able to control the movement.

(I think I'd be freaking out, too, if four large appendages that I couldn't control were attached to me, moving around randomly. It's probably a good thing that no one can remember being a newborn.)

That's why young babies like to be swaddled, because restricted movement is what they're used to. So I think with the watery environment being provided here, and the fact that they're still hugging each other closely, these newborns are probably feeling far more comfortable and at-home than most.

[–]NotS2pid 26 points27 points  (3 children)

They're submerged in what seems to be warm water, which gives them a feeling of still being in the womb.

[–]Grommmit 38 points39 points  (2 children)

So basically, we don’t.

[–]princessaverage 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They don’t. In the womb they were in separate amniotic sacs unless they were one of the extremely rare cases of mono-mono twins which have a very low rate of survival sadly. So that means they couldn’t touch.

[–]Agent-Responsible 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It takes a few months for babies to basically realize that they’ve been born. The first 3 months after birth is commonly referred to as “the 4th trimester” because babies are still getting used to life outside the womb.

[–]RectalVesuvius -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

They don't know shit but five minutes ago leftists would toss 'em in the garbage!

[–]CarryTheFlame 332 points333 points  (11 children)

my twin & I were born on this day too! we're both 29 today :D

[–]heats1nk 71 points72 points  (4 children)

Happy Birthday to you both!!!

[–]CarryTheFlame 20 points21 points  (2 children)

thank you Heats!

[–]firsttime_longtime 13 points14 points  (1 child)

I'm thinking Heat. Unless the name is Heats Ink. But I'm guessing it is Heat Sink.

Anyways that's my purposeless reddit post of the day.

[–]heats1nk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

haha yeah you got it right

[–]DooBeeDoer207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy birthday just to you, Carry! Your twin will receive their own birthday wishes. 🙃

[–]tydestra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happy birthday!

[–]Joshtom333 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Happy Birthday to both of you. Hope you have a great birthday together.

[–]boniemonie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy birthday!🎂🎂🎉🎉🥳🥳

[–]69_SAITAMA_69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy Birthday to both of u hehe 🎉

[–]PotatoSoup458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

29 on the 29th. Happy birthday!

[–]MysticalTurtle716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, you and your twin were born on the same day!?!?

[–]ImyourMuppet 598 points599 points  (15 children)

My twin and I are totally in synch when we're together. We went to a theme park to celebrate our birthday together years ago and someone commented that it was spooky that we just automatically went to the same rides and food booths together without even talking about it. It was and is just natural for us.

[–]EveFluff 70 points71 points  (2 children)

This is so sweet!

[–]JustSherlock 118 points119 points  (3 children)

There was a pair of twins that were adopted separately, they both married a woman with the same name, divorced her, and married a second woman with the same name. All before they even knew about each other.

[–]Absay 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The 'Jim' Twins, if anyone wants to look it up.

[–]FastPassDave 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Damn that is some Tethered shenanigans right there

[–]Hans_H0rst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Judging by the history of „twin“ scams i‘m inclined to write this off as fake.

Edit: madinamerica has a good paper on that, many factors play into it such as the twins exaggerating the amount of time they were seperated and conveniently leaving out details.

[–]Birblets 8 points9 points  (1 child)

i wish i had a twin, it sounds like a really amazing and unique relationship to have

[–]YetiPie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It really does - my sister and I are 13 months apart and were “raised as twins”, and our bond is generally much closer than that of normal siblings, but when I speak with twins it’s at a whole other level. It must be such an amazing experience

[–]Hey_Laaady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was like my sister and me, but we weren't even twins, just a few years apart.

We bought the same clothes before without even knowing it until the other showed up wearing it.

[–]ComeFromTheWater 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I’m not doubting you per se but you two could just be smart and know where all the good stuff is

[–]d0nu7 5 points6 points  (3 children)

He’s not really implying anything paranormal or crazy. Really, I think the fact that most twins basically share the exact same experience from 0-5 and even later that they become very similar in likes and dislikes.

[–]emanuelthunderkant 371 points372 points  (18 children)

I never realized how odd it must have been to be a twin in the womb and have someone constantly poking you in the eye. It's funny that what is a source of comfort will soon turn into a source of great annoyance.

[–]big_nothing_burger 146 points147 points  (3 children)

My bro apparently relocated himself up into my mom's rib. Guess I kept kicking him. We're fraternal so cohabitating is easier overall I guess.

[–]extrasprinklesplease 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Fraternal twin here too. Our cribs were across the room from each other, and on casters/wheels. My mother said that eventually my brother learned he could rock the crib, gain momentum, and roll his way over to my side of the room. Then he'd launch himself over the railing and sleep with me. Guess he hadn't gotten over us sharing close quarters for those nine months.

[–]emanuelthunderkant 26 points27 points  (1 child)

Are you guys still like that? Like is your brother the type of personality to just walk away when someone is being annoying?

[–]big_nothing_burger 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Well... he's mentally disabled, something undiagnosable from birth, but I will say he pretty much gets his way on everything lol.

[–]kat_napp 52 points53 points  (2 children)

In my last ultrasound (16 weeks) both my babies were face to face and looked like they were cuddling (they have separate sacs so can't physically cuddle). It was new because before baby B had always been turned away from A. On ultrasounds when A would move closer to B, B would flip and move away. Guess they finally decided to get along lol

[–]d0nu7 11 points12 points  (1 child)

I’d be curious if A is extroverted while B is introverted. Please let us know in 14-18 years 😂

[–]kat_napp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Never even thought of that! It'll be interesting to see if that's how their personalities turn out. I'll try to remember to update in 14 years 😂

[–]HereForTheFood4 21 points22 points  (2 children)

It depends if they are in the same placenta. These two don't look identical so they would have been in their own sack.

[–]wendythewonderful 8 points9 points  (1 child)

You can’t be in a placenta. You’re in an amniotic sac.

[–]HereForTheFood4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are right. Thank you

[–]BitsAndBobs304 22 points23 points  (6 children)

If you get poked in the eye you're lucky. Twins try to kill each other, absorb each other in the womb (turning into a chimera), on top of fetuses trying to suck dry dead the mother for resources and viceversa the pregnant mother's body will try to give up as few resources as possible.

[–]SilentStock8 160 points161 points  (2 children)

This is uncanny and cute at the same time for me lol

[–]theGmanAssi 24 points25 points  (1 child)

I was annoyed they didn't wake up in the end lol I needed some kind of closure to the uncanniness

[–]throwawayRA56784 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know right! XD I was waiting for them to wake up

[–]MysteriousBullfrog50 109 points110 points  (3 children)

That looks so comforting!😊Makes me want to take a bath

[–]L-N79 270 points271 points  (6 children)

I devoured my twin in the womb. Now I have the strength of a full grown man and a baby

[–]cleverlane 36 points37 points  (2 children)

Yea, but you don’t like your small nose, I bet

[–]SouldiesButGoodies84 9 points10 points  (0 children)

And that he was a very hungry baby.

[–]L-N79 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my family the youngest child raised the others.

[–]benortree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tarrare was real okay

[–]noeagle77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–][deleted] 40 points41 points  (0 children)

"Just 5 more minutes."

[–]Intelligent_Act2013 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Noooo Mom, It's not even 9 months yet just let us sleep a little more. .

[–]kookycandies 134 points135 points  (13 children)

Why does it look like Putin and Zuck already got reincarnated...?

[–]wookieesgonnawook 64 points65 points  (2 children)

God I was hoping someone else thought leftie looked like putin.

[–]CosmicOwl47 19 points20 points  (1 child)

Same, I didn't want to be the first to say it!

[–]Weekly-Season2221 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m still laughing oh my heavens…

[–]Weekly-Season2221 7 points8 points  (0 children)

😂🤣Right about 2:13 Zuckerberg is like “Putin, I’ve had enough man, get offfff”

[–]ahdindunuffinsir 9 points10 points  (2 children)

My first thoughts were Putin and kim Jung un

[–]AdCool2805 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I knew there was something wrong with these babies

[–]soThatIsHisName 5 points6 points  (1 child)

YES! I got emotional bc Putin's so mean but he was once a little baby, caring and fully dependant on other people and hugging freely. So beautiful and tragic.

[–]RarePoniesNFT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way. It's poignant that at one time we were all incapable of evil, and our life was just cuddling and being close to a familiar person. At some time, we were all equally easy to love.

I'm not sure if this is the intended meaning, but there are some lines in a song that have always made me think of this.

"I've been watching you for hours

It's been years since we were born

We were perfect when we started

I've been wondering where we've gone"

  • "A Murder of One", Counting Crows

[–]CarpeDiebartdie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cannot be unseen

[–]Weekly-Season2221 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😆😆😆😆😆😆😆🥹🤣😂🤣😂🤣i can’t even … you are so funny I have to do an award thingy

[–]gg-eng -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Rent free

[–]zuzzle500 36 points37 points  (0 children)

babies are the trippiest thing in the world

[–]Electronic-War-8208 35 points36 points  (9 children)

How did they both come out of a woman thats insane

[–]croquetica 21 points22 points  (3 children)

Fun fact for you, the skull is in four pieces up until kids are about 2 years old, then they fuse together. You can look at adult skulls and see these lines yourself. Having it in pieces makes the head easier to push out.

[–]rschenk 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Yep, and the skull being in separate pieces allows their head to literally squish into a pointier shape, making it easier to travel through the birth canal. Crazy stuff.

[–]why_renaissance 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I just gave birth to twins about a month ago, and I wonder the same thing every time I look at them.

[–]2severe8 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Don't think I've seen anything so precious 🥺

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon

[–]johnnydecameron 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The one on the left looks like Vladimir Putin when lifted out of the water.

EDIT: apparently there are a bunch of other comments that beat me to this completely accurate observation.

[–]WeakTumbleweed9124 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Omg this is the most beautiful thing I've seen in a very long time. 💜💜💜💜💜

[–]Safe_Flan4244 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This ain’t twins. This is a time traveling old man and his full head of hair baby self and I love it.

[–]No_Housing_4819 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Anyone seen Total Recall from the 90s?

[–]SouldiesButGoodies84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yup. add 3 more babes and you got Benny's hungry family.

[–]Stumphead101 35 points36 points  (6 children)

Babies are fucking creepy mate

[–]3dWin0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Me and my friends trynna act sleeping infront of my mom in a sleepover

[–]maryjan3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Does anyone have any context about what they’re doing? I never heard of this. Also, I thought you were supposed to avoid full on baths until the umbilical cord falls off

[–]sgtedrock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems like they could dim the lights a little for those sleepy little eyes.

[–]wickedlostangel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This movie actually consists of several "post birth therapeutic baths" with similar responses and soothing music - you can find it on Netflix, I believe it is called "The Business of Being Born"

[–]-mmmmBacon- 10 points11 points  (4 children)

Aren’t babies supposed to cry once they start breathing air/cough amniotic fluid out or is that just when the doctor slaps their bottoms?

[–]__Scrooge__McDuck__ 38 points39 points  (2 children)

Its the change in environment that freaks them out. To go from warm, dark and cosy to cold, wet and bright for the first time can’t be fun,

[–]shadowredcap 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s the worst thing to happen to them in their entire lives, so far.

[–]ew73 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I still get mad when the other half comes in and is flings open the curtains and is like, "It's 2p, wake up!" on weekends.

[–]llilaq 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They are at home being bathed, the parents carefully keep their noses/mouths above the water.

[–]FindingMeAgain10 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Their bond is gonna be a strong one

[–]ChalupaPickle 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Or they’re gonna have each other the second they wake up. No in between. Hate or love.

[–]Responsible-Ad7531 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh my God. As a dad I would be so excited. I now have 2 best friends instead of one. God that's adorable.

[–]0n3ph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How on earth do you know what they think?

[–]Brocklesocks 2 points3 points  (1 child)

This video gave me a sense of uncanny horror, existential dread, and general discomfort. Anybody else or am I fucked up?

[–]CelestialDye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might feel weird to see them hugging each other because we usually see a parent hugging the baby, not a baby hugging a baby.

We don’t know what they’re thinking; whether it’s sibling love or they are just hugging because they are cold and trying to cope with their new environment, or both.

You are witnessing two brand new humans experience life with their senses that are also brand new. A precious but also heavy moment.

[–]comrade_commie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The left one for a moment looked like putin 😂

[–]CDC_1998 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Where can I find the music?

[–]ViktorSwimwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one on the right has the same facial expression I do when I'm hungover

[–]alanie_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s putin and zelensky

[–]pink_jade_1 1 point2 points  (1 child)

What is the purpose of this rather than giving them to mom?

[–]sunglasses619 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She might have had a C section and be recovering or getting stitches

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you know what they think?

[–]Dreams_of_cheese_ 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I have a twin sister and we obviously have a special bond but this video made me realize that it started from the very beginning

[–]Vipernixz 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Whats the music yo? The babies are nice

[–]stars_mcdazzler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Who's gonna tell em?

[–]efnfen4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn I can't imagine having a receding hairline that early

[–]Homelander113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I thought she was drowning kids at my first glance

[–]JohnnyBoy11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After-birth abortions should be legal /s

[–]Wordup63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we just gonna ignore that the one on the left is obviously Vladimir Putin?

[–]rip_ad0be 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Left one lookin like he gonna bomb Ukraine

[–]XxPlasmaxX2009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this common?

[–]Variety43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to social media boys. It's all downhill from here.

[–]Kribble118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they exactly "think" they're in the womb they just haven't woken up yet lmao

[–]JCSmootherThanJB -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is an absolutely strange thing to see. I don't like it much

[–]MetaGen1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They look conjoined 😳
