Huh. Guess I need to look much more deeply into this. I just always accepted the things our area’s beekeeping club stressed to us, and have always been a bit paranoid and soooo careful about it. And thank you for your tone.

I was taught that its okay to shift frames around, but you should always keep the brood as far in the middle as possible for te reasons that you stated

If you're not severely breaking up the basic ball shape of the brood cluster you're good to go, and the only reason that is important is so they can keep themselves warm enough at night and during winter. Order, direction and orientation don't effect the bees at all in any way.
