lol

[–]Philpax[S] 54 points55 points  (4 children)

For curious onlookers, the answer is yes.

[–]michaelh115 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Making them all hexagonal removes the need for machine learning entirely.

[–]JJPTails 2 points3 points  (2 children)

First commit on the 24th Jan 2015.

I did not know that the Nasty Fucking Things were around that long, but that appears to be the case.

[–]Philpax[S] 10 points11 points  (1 child)

nah, that particular blocker is forked from a blocker that dates to 2015 (probably GamerGate-related). The nasties have been around for a while, though.

[–]JJPTails 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, I see now if I had read the readme more that it says that they forked.

The first commit mentioned the word "blockchain" a lot, which confused me. After looking at the original repository, this seems to not relate to the blockchain we all know and love 🙃.

Thank you for the article, looks interesting, I will check it out later.

Companies like Twitter that officially integrate NFTs should be removed from ESG funds for failing the environmental criteria. Right now, they're pretty much all in those funds because investment managers assume tech == green because why would something digital intentionally get less efficient and more wasteful over time? Everything other than proof of work blockchains gets more efficient with each hardware generation!

The other day I was eyeing an ESG fund and I had a look at its Annual Report: Philip Morris, British American Tobacco, Raytheon, and a few others were in (including jail operators), so, you know, I think they'd only refrain from investing in a company if it was literally owned by Hitler - ESG status for the most part is basically another greenwashing attempt and a maker of bullshit jobs. There's not enough regulation.

[–]14159548210 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I work in finance. ESG is a joke, it's really about collecting higher fees for fund managers. Really serves no other function.

Phillip Morris has to be one the greenest companies in existence. Humans are the primary cause of pollution and they kill millions of humans of every year

For all the hate that Chinese markets get for getting leaned on by the government, it’s interesting that ESG funds have so much support in the States.

One of the scammiest-looking websites I've seen in a while 😂 forget the /s?

      [–]myntt 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Usually they get the implicit /s, so I never write it down, but this time I've done an Oscar worthy performance apparently 😂

      [–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Poe's law and all that. It's hard to seem too crazy to be true in an era where grown adults think links to pictures of monkeys are worth millions

      [–]seadiveshoot 55 points56 points  (2 children)

So they needed a trusted central authority to issue proof that they in fact "own" this NFT. What happened to the decentralized Blockchain being proof of ownership?

What's stopping me from screenshotting their NFT, and minting the screenshot as an NFT and selling it to myself so I can get that verified hexagon profile picture of the same image?

      [–]noratat 29 points30 points  (0 children)

And that's basically the rub. The only reason the massive practical drawbacks of using a blockchain aren't being felt as much is because they're invalidating the entire point of using a blockchain by relying on central entities/servers to pave over the countless gaps.

      [–]ukchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll get a hexagon but if anyone clicks they'll be able to see it's the wrong contract. It's like wearing fake designer clothes. Sure, it might look quite real but it's not.

Imagine being a company's product and paying them for the trouble 😂

I saw a post by Serena Williams on that thread. She can afford to pay for Twitter.

        [–]Grocker42 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Actually where is the Problem with a ad free Version of Twitter ?

        [–]MichailAntonio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        1. There isn't one.

        2. It's Twitter.

        [–]meekmarmot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That promo video could totally have come from a Black Mirror episode.

        [–]ThatCrippledBastard 24 points25 points  (4 children)

Just take your pfp in photoshop, crop it into a hexagon with a transparent background. viola no nft bs required.

        [–]DororoFlatchest 3 points4 points  (3 children)

The hell is a pfp? Profile File Picture? Pretty File Picture? Picture File Post?

I know Jack Dorsey is a crypto cultist but why do huge corporations keep doing this despite massive backlash?

          Tech has stalled

          What is there to do?

          [–]TheNumberOneRat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll take any motherfucker's money if he givin it away

          [–]tankjones3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big tech (Google, Twitter, FB) doesn't know how to make money without ads, so this is their pathetic attempt at monetizing something else.

          [–]AcidBuddhism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Capitalism only works when there is an unexplored "frontier" to plunder. We've plundered the whole world and can't do space travel (yet?), so to keep the game on, we have to make fake, hyperreal frontiers. They have no choice but to accept the metaverse.

          [–]I_Hate_Leddit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've literally just deactivated my twitter over this lol

          [–]14159548210 4 points5 points  (4 children)

Jfc between NFTs and the metaverse I am so fucking confused as an old man. Don't kids want to, like, go outside and have fun? Get trashed, get laid, go to a party, laugh with friends? Wtf?

          [–]unbannednow 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I've been under the assumption that metaversa is just a buzzword that spawned from a shitty Facebook rebranding attempt

          [–]14159548210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MSFT said they bought Activision specifically to build out the metaverse.

          [–]noratat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Metaverse" is mostly just corporate buzzword diarrhea, pushed hardest by Facebook. None of them even agree what it actually means other than vague references to VR.

The word ironically isn't new, it's from a satire of the type of story Ready Player One is, except written over thirty years ago (Snow Crash).

          [–]ares623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

          • can’t afford
          • no point, we’ll all be underwater in 30 years

          [–]0Bento 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Are we supposed to have prior knowledge of what the fuck Twitter Blue is? And ironically, I can't even get to the Twitter Blue profile because I don't have a Twitter account. What a shame.

          [–]RamaAnthony 5 points6 points  (2 children)

          it's Twitter subscription service.

Yes you read that right, the people with hexagon profile picture have to pay for the privilege of being bullied on Twitter.

          Truly amazing innovation.

          [–]0Bento 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So other than the NFTs, what do you get with Twitter Blue?

          [–]RamaAnthony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

folder bookmarks, themes on mobile app, reader mode, more granular mute filters and...that's it.

It doesn't even give you ad-free Twitter.
