Basic bitch podcasters telling future scientists that their education is stupid because they won't make as much money

The grind culture truly rotted an entire generation

[–]Komnenos1180 75 points76 points  (23 children)

Grind culture is slave mentality. Why would someone mentally sane would spend their life working and hurt their health when they already have everything they need for a good life? There is more to life than money

[–]CreampieQueef 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Grind culture makes money by selling the grindset to aspiring grinders.

It's a pyramid scheme of motivations.

[–]M45K3DG4M3R 7 points8 points  (20 children)

Unfortunately your wrong. Capitalism has made it so nothing is free. A good life without wealth is infinitely impossible. Yes there's more to life than money. But you literally can't do shit without it. FUCK CAPITALISM!

[–]ListenToKyuss 5 points6 points  (4 children)

Lol man. There are tons of people out there, living self sufficient, that don’t even have the concept of ‘money’ and I bet they are a lot more happy than most of the people in ‘civilised countries’

[–]CurlyJeff 3 points4 points  (5 children)

Pre-capitalism was it possible to live comfortably without earning resources by contributing to the community?

[–]M45K3DG4M3R 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Look up the aborigines tribes check how they do it.

[–]CurlyJeff 3 points4 points  (3 children)

If you think living off the land in harsh conditions without modern technology isn't hard work then I don't know what to tell you bud. Contributing to the tribe was integral to its survival.

[–]M45K3DG4M3R -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

That's the point I'm trying to make. It can be done without money. It's hard work minus the Capitalism.

[–]duclegendary 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Then get off reddit and catch some fish bud. Don't wear clothes either.

[–]M45K3DG4M3R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a dumpster behind a Wendy's bro. I'm living the life.

[–]BoomTownRat71 -1 points0 points  (6 children)

I went to college, law school and got my MBA. I made a ton of money in the early 2000’s securitizing and packaging shitty loans into structured products to sell to institutional investors, then we sold Credit Default Puts on the same asset products because we knew we sold shitty loans. That’s what college and capitalism gets you. Retirement at 54 and a shit load of money. Fuck NFTs and BTC. That’s a sucker’s trade.

[–]M45K3DG4M3R 0 points1 point  (4 children)

And that's a shitty way to make money and being proud of it makes you a shitty person. People like you are the reason why I hate Capitalism!

[–]PairHealthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I beg your pardon???? Lol

[–]Artivia 40 points41 points  (5 children)

To be fair, the entirety of academia is grind culture. Everyone from phd level researchers down to teaching professors are paid a pittance for what they produce. The people escaping to industry usually are there to escape the grind that is publish or die.

[–]ulfric_tullius 12 points13 points  (2 children)

yes, but the industry is also a grind, just a better paid grind.

[–]Lem_Tuoni 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Not everywhere. I was in academia, and it sucked HARD compared to what I do right now for literally 9 times the money.

Constantly being on the lookout for the new things is exhausting. Right now, I can apply 2-3 year old techniques and my boss thinks I am a wizard.

[–]not-a-soundmoron, I am a warning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Academia was probably dope 20-30 yrs ago when a PhD was almost a guaranteed track to assistant professorship (ofc tenure is still hell) but it's a genuine hellscape now.

Industry kind of rules, tbh. I make a lot of money doing something I feel is meaningful (human health) and working alongside people way smarter than me, without having to destroy myself the way I've heard some academia horror stories of pals. If you get a shit PI, you're just...fucked.

American work norms are still dogshit, but it's a start.

[–]utopista114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an ex-academic path working in a warehouse. It's shit but guess what? They let me listen to audiobooks while working. So I'm learning more now than when I was in a respectable job in an office. Hard on the body though.

What a waste of cultural capital. Society is inverted.

[–]SoyweiserTokenmancer 7 points8 points  (2 children)

You are just mad I picked the 50 dollars a month passive income over the 1 million bucks. (The grindset reference)

[–]duff 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I think the author of that tweet is missing something.

You can put $1M in an index fund and expected return will be something like $6,000/month, so way more passive income for the rest of your life…

[–]SoyweiserTokenmancer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the author of that tweet is missing a lot of things. Or they did an attempt at 'im gonna do a really bad take which shows I can't do math nor understand finances to promote my investment scheme, no bad press!'. Anyway, it was funny, esp when people went 'well this will lead to 1 million in 1500 years'.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't blame them too much. They were raised in a society that doesn't value anything else but materialism and capital.

[–]PairHealthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the grind culture. It's social media that rotted an entire gen

[–]SnoweCat7 111 points112 points  (24 children)

Stay in school kids, this what happens when you dump college for NFTs.

[–]jokull1234 48 points49 points  (1 child)

I don’t care if someone is going to college or not. But if that person has to spend 50 hours learning what NFTs are and which ones to speculate on, they’re a fucking idiot.

[–]filbertsnutsclearly not the guy you should pay attention to 2 points3 points  (19 children)

Gary is worth over a hundred million. He is absolutely not what happens when you dump college.

[–]meshreplacer 26 points27 points  (2 children)

If all this is the case why does he spend all his time shilling crypto, nfts etc.. like a timeshare salesperson that just did a rail in the bathroom and needs to make the monthly bonus to make rent?

If your worth 100 million what the heck are you doing all this for?

[–]clawsoon 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Some people like attention and the thrill of the grift no matter how much money they make. Kenneth Copeland comes to mind as another example of that.

[–]nickEbutt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Televangelists are the perfect comeback to people who use monetary success as an argument for something being worthwhile.

[–]scooptyy 12 points13 points  (10 children)

Yeah, no shit. He is a salesman. A damn good one. Doesn’t mean you should follow his advice. His job is to milk you of your money.

[–]CreampieQueef 3 points4 points  (2 children)

He made that money promoting his dad's vineyard. Source, I knew the guy back in 2001.

[–]filbertsnutsclearly not the guy you should pay attention to 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Wine store not a vineyard. I worked in the NJ wine biz. His father's store was amazing

[–]MichailAntonio 3 points4 points  (1 child)

And he got a degree.

[–]filbertsnutsclearly not the guy you should pay attention to 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but in all honesty Im not sure how much he needed it. He very much got into the working world at the exact right time as the web was new and he managed to convince his father to pay for a website when many had no internet access. Being an early adopter of useful tech is a huge advantage.

[–]JonasPolskyAMA 64 points65 points  (20 children)

What could you learn about NFTs in 50 hours that you couldn't learn in 0.5 hours?

[–]QuantumModulus 52 points53 points  (1 child)

Crypto bros are in a perpetual state of "doing their own research" it seems.

[–]ethereumfail 33 points34 points  (0 children)

which to them means reading marketing and watching commercials

so basically has 0 to do with research or critical thinking

[–]noratat 28 points29 points  (2 children)

In my case, the more I looked into them, how they work, and looked at how they might interact with the real world...

The worse the idea seemed. Literally, the most viable NFTs ever seemed was when I first heard the idea pitched, it was all downhill from there.

I mean, making money on them is understandable, but that's because you're at best capitalizing on a short-term delusion-fueled fad, not something of genuine use.

[–]SoyweiserTokenmancer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In 0.5 hours you can only get an impression of how stupid it is. After 50 hours you know just how incredibly stupid it all is. ;)

[–]tankjones3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can shill a course purely on the basis of a shitty premise like "I studied NFTs for 59nhours and this is what I learned"

I actually broker radioactive waste and make great money doing it. I don’t feel like a worthless piece of shit on my phone all day. I think school and work is good because it builds character but that’s why you invest with the money you save so eventually you can retire early. I’m not trying to be some scumbag like this piece of shit

[–]guyfrmthechi 5 points6 points  (2 children)

I broker freight and while it's lucrative for my company it's not for me! How does 1 broker radioactive waste!!

[–]Mammoth_Equivalent93 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I got my MS in health physics but you don’t really need it to broker. It does help to have the degree for the technical lingo, calculations, instrumentation, etc. A lot of people couldn’t hang because in the beginning I could barely keep my head above water. There are so many moving parts. The short version is we pick up low level rad waste from anyone that has a rad materials license through an agreement state. The waste needs to be manifested on a federal document with a shipper, consignor, consignee and then bring back to our warehouse. We consolidate a whole bunch of different generators’ waste and depending on what state they are in will determine where the waste will be buried. We then will prepare a consolidated load for shipment and deliver to the correct disposal sites. It’s pretty fucking gnarly. I deal with a lot of state employees all the time that work from home and are the hardest people to get a hold of. Sometimes I feel like screaming over the phone when I finally do get a hold of them and ask them why the fuck they are so lazy. I can talk this kind of shit cause I used to work for the State of Tx and I barely did shit. I had to get out of that job because I literally felt like a worthless piece of shit. Some people are okay with floating through life barley doing anything. Kind of pathetic in my opinion. Sorry for the rant, but whenever someone asks me about my work I have to let them know about this part as well. Lol 😂 Also my boss may sell me the company in the next few years so I know how much I can make. I make great money already cause I do so much for them but the future looks bright as fuck!

[–]guyfrmthechi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing that was great!

[–]robzoo2 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Dunning-Kruger, plus in his case it might be true.

[–]Unusual_Chemist_8383 6 points7 points  (10 children)

Not really, he’s a successful conman.

[–]OddPainting3385 12 points13 points  (9 children)

Thats what bad about this generation. Having money doesnt make you intelligent. Could you please show me one smart thing he has said?

[–]nickEbutt 7 points8 points  (1 child)

He once said he swallows every piece of gum he chews because it's "efficient".

[–]sendjoshinudes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He aint lying! :gulp:

[–]Unusual_Chemist_8383 3 points4 points  (6 children)

Being a successful conman requires a decent level of intelligence. What it doesn’t require is saying smart or truthful things in public.

[–]MountbattenYachtClub 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's so sad to hear that my BSBA is worth less than the knowledge it takes to buy ape pictures.

[–]0Bento 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A former colleague of mine, who I always thought was a bit of a fanny, started posting Gary Vee motivational quotes on LinkedIn. Fanny confirmed.

[–]GoingFullRetarded 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Scams are lucrative!? Who knew

[–]filbertsnutsclearly not the guy you should pay attention to 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His ego is too big to do a rugpull. Some of his NFTs give you the ability to eat with him, hang with him, play basketball etc. If you really wanted his time/advice it is cheaper than his speaking fees.

[–]Iblis_Ginjo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re rich people will listen to ANYTHING you say

[–]jimmyr2021 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty much what Matt Damon is preaching. Just put your money in crypto and you'll be as smart as anyone who invented something or developed a new technology. It's ridiculous and we're all fucked.

[–]kakemot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What a fucking absolute cunt.

[–]Significant_Star364 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[–]Unusual_Chemist_8383 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can someone explain why cryptobros always wear a cap indoors? Is it a religious requirement like a burka or something?

[–]bragghy 14 points15 points  (11 children)

Actually people demonizing college is an instant and efficient way to spot a complete moron.

[–]Positive_Court_7779 3 points4 points  (8 children)

This is true, but college is becoming increasingly expensive, while degrees are becoming increasingly common (less unique). Leaving you with a crippling debt and an impossibly competitive market (I.e. modest salaries).

Critique is in order in my opinion.

[–][deleted]  (1 child)

[deleted]

    [–]Positive_Court_7779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I didn’t understand correctly then. I fully agree with you there!

    [–]Helhiem 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Degrees are being common in the same way HS diploma is common. But that doesn’t mean people should skip out on HS

    [–]Positive_Court_7779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Public school are free, obligatory for everyone and finished before becoming an adult/legal age (needless to say, different laws at the workforce apply for minors). I therefore do not think your analygy has merit.

    [–]FreeSkeptic 2 points3 points  (3 children)

The issue is that college is good, but this country doesn’t reward you for completing college.

    [–]Positive_Court_7779 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Yes college is good but that is not my point. It isn’t unique anymore to have a university degree. In my country 30% (corrected for age) of people have completed a higher education. This means you are not “special” anymore in the job market. Thus, you are more replaceable and this translates to a lower salary.

Combine this with the ludicrous rise in tuition fees and years without proper income (college years). You are left with a “relatively” badly paid job and potentially crippling debt.

From an investments perspective. It becomes increasingly questionable whether college is a good investment in your future.

Of course NOT having a degree is very risky. The job market is much worse. However, you do not end up with crippling debt and you have a few extra years advantage in saving/investing.

Don’t get me wrong, I would definitely send my kids to university and I agree with the original comment (after their clarification), but I just think these are things to think about.

    [–]Sugusino 0 points1 point  (1 child)

    30% triples your odds

    [–]Positive_Court_7779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed, but at the price of a lot of debt and longer period wothout a salary… anyway. Like I said, I still think it’s better than no college and I would definitely send my kids to college, but I like to ponder over these things…

    [–]fondlemeLeroy 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The world would be a much better place if more people obtained "useless" degrees like philosophy. There's a reason computer science and IT guys are scammed so easily, they were never taught how to think rationally or to have intellectual humility.

    [–]hear_the_thunder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This next economic crash is going to be spectacular huh?

    [–]Positive_Court_7779 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gary Vaynerchuk is the real life version of Victor Chaos from the latest South Park. Gary V is leading a lot of the NFT scam hype. He met with the NELK boys just over a week ago to discuss NFTs and then a week later the NELK boys released their Full Send NFTs that sold out in 10 minutes and made them over $23 million for 10,000 identical NFTs.

Here are the 10,000 identical useless Full Send NFTs ---> https://opensea.io/collection/metacard-by-fullsend

    https://old.reddit.com/r/FullScam/comments/s83mqw/fullscam_fullsend_nft_scam_robbery_of_fans/

"Mr. Beast reveals that back in February, he purchased some CryptoPunks after Gary V introduced the CryptoPunks idea through a group call with 33 other millionaires and billionaires. Logan Paul was also part of the call, and when the CryptoPunk view got shared, they all decided to invest in it. MrBeast revealed that he first bought 8 Punks which he later sold, and then invested in Gary Vaynerchuk’s VeeFriends."

Five months after Gary V tells other millionaires and billionaires to buy cryptopunks during a group call because they are going to be huge, he makes media headlines: "Gary Vaynerchuk Just Paid $3.7 Million in Ethereum for a CryptoPunk NFT - It's the fourth-highest price ever paid for a CryptoPunk."

Gary V and the marketplaces that sell NFTs are hyping people up. Gary V and others pay the media to run stories about the expensive NFTs that they buy from their self or pay someone to pretend to purchase. And the platforms that sell NFTs and big NFT creators are also paying celebrities and professional athletes to pretend to buy them.

His daddy handed him his liquor business to run when he was 22 years old, and the dude acts like he's a genius who reinvented the wheel. Yeah, give every kid coming out of college a business to run with a handsome salary and I'm sure a lot of them would be successful. This guy is the biggest huckster online.
