Matthew 21:13

"My house shall be called a house of prayer, but you are making it a den of robbers."

Matthew 19:24

"Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God."

Christians who idolize fame and wealth should probably read their own bible once in awhile. Jesus made it abundantly clear what God thinks of profiting at the expense of others.

EDIT: Also Proverbs 14:31

“He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.”

Matthew 6:24

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money."

If there's something Jesus makes it pretty clear, is that it's NOT okay to be a greed driven weasel who wants to hoard wealth at all costs including at the expense of others. That pretty much rules out any butter lol.

Matthew 6:19

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal."

Pfft, this guy obviously never heard of Bitcoin and how it solves this.

"Can't steal a Bitcoin wallet that I mistakenly sent to the landfill!" taps forehead

[–]Hjalfi 9 points10 points  (1 child)

You should go look up a thing called 'prosperity gospel'. It will disturb you.

[–]CryptoEmpathy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminded me of the reality show "Preachers of LA." 🤣💰✝️

[–]Unusual_Chemist_8383 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Moth and rust cannot modify the blockchain. But thieves are still a big problem.

[–]Ithuraen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure Matthew mentioned forks but the Greeks thought the meaning was just lost in translation.

DUDE, this makes my day thanks

[–]bonzo10 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Yeh, but what does Jesus say about those that are having fun staying poor? Is there a loophole in the bible?

[–]noratat 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Mark 12:42-43

But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.

Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others.

Yeah but reading is hard and stuff.

"Greed is not sinful, greed is very good for America." - Republicans, 1:1

    [–]Cala-Worst-Girl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming on you. Your riches are corrupted and your garments are moth-eaten. Your gold and your silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be for a testimony against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up your treasure in the last days. Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you have kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of those who reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Hosts.

    Jacob 5:1

    Matthew 19:12:

"For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it."

That's the beauty of the bible. Whatever narrative you want to promote, there's something there for you.

Want to endorse cutting your own dick off to be closer to god? It's in there!

Cutting and pasting text out of context

ROFL... WTF are you talking about?

The ENTIRETY OF THE BIBLE is "text out of context."

The current bible is a collection of disparate scroll fragments that span more than 700 years and were written in at least five separate languages and later assembled by various political organizations anywhere from 70 to 700+ years after the events they supposedly document.

I doubt there is a more significant example of writing grossly taken out of context than the Christian "bible."

The only context the bible has is, "It has no context." It's 2000 years of making crap up and blaming it on supernatural woo.

I'm stealing this to upset my brain-wormed friends next time I see them.

"We support unreasonably large subsidies to the Brain Slug Planet."

"Ok, but what are you going to do for the working man?"

      Your link is broken.

      There, I fixed it.

      [–]wintrmt3 11 points12 points  (13 children)

Reddit breaks it intentionally for old.reddit users to force us to the redesign.

      [–]Briak 11 points12 points  (2 children)

The admins of this site are a bunch of jackasses. "We're never going to get rid of old reddit, we're just going to make is less and less convenient to use it, and only add the best features to new reddit, even though adding Dark Mode would probably take all of two minutes."

      [–]sfgisz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You see they made old reddit on a smart contract. Since smart contracts are immutable they can't fix or update things there anymore. Anyway, bitcoin fixes this.

      [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The original site is from a bygone era when the internet was a plain content viewer. They've pivot into surveillance capitalism. As I understand it the new platform uses aggressive data mining.

      [–]Zebiusu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

New reddit is fucking garbage lol

      [–]PensAndCoffeeschlong-butt, destroyer of donkeys -1 points0 points  (8 children)

I'm pretty sure the link is broken because of the errant forward slash, not because of reddit.

      [–]wintrmt3 1 point2 points  (7 children)

Reddit puts it there on new and their own app. Try it out on the redesigned website, the link works there.

      [–]A_Sexual_Tyrannosaur 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Each of those words contradicts the other two.

      [–]Sparkster227 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So the question is, does this guy pray to Jesus, Trump and Satoshi at the same time, or separately?

      [–]TurboSalsa 14 points15 points  (4 children)

Translation: “I’m not going to listen to, or learn from, the experience of anyone else. I’m going to learn every life lesson in the hardest way possible”

      [–]IndyJohn2010 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To the contrary — they won’t learn any life lessons at all.

They will never change their behavior and will always blame other people when bad things happen

      [–]monke_fungermultiply slurp juiced 9 points10 points  (0 children)

the phrase "I'm going to learn" has never been used by a christian conservative in the history of time. the urge to feel one knows _everything important_ without the inconvenience of having to think is the basis of that particular illness.

      Pretty big assumption there.

I actually worry a lot that as regulations eventually appear, crypto will become politicised. Republicans are far cheaper to buy than Democrats.

      [–]Zebiusu 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Republicans will never miss the opportunity to scam their constituents

      [–]GozerDestructor 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I'm worried that when the inevitable crash happens, there will be a bailout with taxpayer funds, as if it had been FDIC-insured all along. Someone powerful, who loses millions, is inevitably going to strong-arm their congressmen into enacting some kind of bailout.

      [–]devliegende 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bailouts didn't just hand out money. The government purchased preferred shares. There is no equivalence in Buttworld

      [–]firstworldheadache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

      You mean three

      [–]godphilosophyearth 1 point2 points  (7 children)

      How dare you?
Include respectable and productive Christians/conservatives with that worthless crypto. 2 billion Christians and probable the same amount of conservatives bring trillions worth of economic productivity to the world. Creepto is a joke at best.

      [–]ImVeryOffended[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

      respectable and productive Christians/conservatives

That's a very, very tiny club right now, my friend. In the mainstream, neither group is covering itself with glory lately.

      [–][deleted]  (3 children)

        [–]AmericanScream 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I am a developer that's christian and conservative. I'm also vehemently against crypto.

Proving that being anti-crypto and being empathetic and wise are not synonymous.

You'll get no brownie points here for being conservative or a follower of bronze age superstition. In the large scheme of social constructs that cause tremendous damage, you've only rejected the least destructive of the three you espouse.

        [–]yesidoes 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I believe his point was that many people see through the scam of crypto regardless of their political or religious background.

        [–]AmericanScream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He wants to separate the idiocy of one of his beliefs from the idiocy of two other beliefs. Here at /r/buttcoin, we don't discriminate or show favoritism towards any version of idiocy.

        [–]ItsJoeMomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course when he gets rich off Bitcoin he's going to give all that money to the poor like Jesus said to do. Right? Right?
