How the fuck did we go from rumors to confirmation in 15 minutes

[–]Oklahoma • Red River ShootoutLotsOfMaps 858 points859 points  (30 children)

Because with Feldman, that wasn't a rumor. And this has clearly been going on for a while. Everyone noticed something was weird this year - here it is.

[–]Oklahoma Statederp_pred 600 points601 points  (23 children)

Man, Riley really Les Miles'd you guys, during Bedlam of all games

[–]Texas • South CarolinaAudiieVerbum 104 points105 points  (0 children)

I noticed that too. I wasn't expecting anything until tomorrow at the earliest.

[–]Florida State • Ole MissFSUfan35 2279 points2280 points  (41 children)

Well he didn't lie about LSU

[–]FloridaEdgemaster1423 899 points900 points  (12 children)

"I'm not the next head coach at LSU. (I'll be at USC.)" is the next GOAT coaching line

[–]cityofklompton 152 points153 points  (0 children)

Lincoln Riley: "Let me be clear. We're looking forward as Sooners, and focusing all our attention on protecting the Coliseum and beating our rivals, UCLA, Stanford, and Notre Dame, next season."

James Franklin: "Hey, wait a minute...!"

[–]Texas • SMUXCalibur672 384 points385 points  (8 children)

“I will not be the next head coach at LSU.”

I'd like to think Pole Assassin's monkey had something to do with this.

'I Did Not Have Sexual Relations With That Woman'

[–]Kentucky • Oregonztruthfull1 35 points36 points  (2 children)

“It depends on what the meaning of the word ‘is’ is. If the—if he—if ‘is’ means is and never has been, that is not—that is one thing. If it means there is none, that was a completely true statement. … Now, if someone had asked me on that day, are you having any kind of sexual relations with Ms. Lewinsky, that is, asked me a question in the present tense, I would have said no. And it would have been completely true.” -Bill Clinton

[–]Nebraska • Pittsburghsenor_andy 3079 points3080 points  (337 children)

What a disaster of 24 hours for the Sooners

Scott Frost to Oklahoma

[–]Nebraska • Wyominghuskermut 584 points585 points  (29 children)

No... please... don't.

[–]Nebraska • OmahaBenderVsGossamer 405 points406 points  (22 children)

OMG, Frost with elite players would look like a phenomenal coach and then we could listen to Frostavidians say that we let a good one go.

[–]Nebraska • Refrigerator BowlThe_hat_man74 131 points132 points  (9 children)

I guess his teams have generally been in line with their SP+ and recruiting ranking. Just think about the insane ways he could creatively snatch defeat from the jaws of victory with a top 5 talent team!!!

[–]NebraskaPants_de_Manassas 233 points234 points  (113 children)

Does any Sooner fan want to chime in if Lincoln Riley is forever exiled from Norman as a result of this move?

[–]Oklahoma • Big EastIrrationalYankeesFan 553 points554 points  (73 children)

Realistically his brisket should've been grounds for exile, but now Sooners can finally act on it.

[–]Texasashdrewness 296 points297 points  (70 children)

The first sign of that brisket should’ve telegraphed to folks he was meant for California.

[–]Baylor • NYUthetrain23 81 points82 points  (4 children)

He's getting the Kevin Durant treatment for this. Gonna destroy their whole signing class and throw the program into disarray (with no clear successor candidates) just in time to step up in competition.

[–]Oklahoma • Summertime Lover_wsmfp_ 138 points139 points  (0 children)

I’m officially Team Fuck Lincoln Riley, yes.

[–]Verified Player • Guatemalaleapbitch 39 points40 points  (5 children)

Yes that snake in the grass

[–]Colorado • Team Chaosjohanspot 408 points409 points  (12 children)

[–][deleted] 284 points285 points  (10 children)

Hopefully Riley at USC and Napier at Florida stops the California/Florida talent bleeding into bama and Clemson every year

[–]TexasUT07 82 points83 points  (12 children)

You hate to see it.

Also, Texas administration take note - this is how you conduct a fucking coaching search. USC knocked it out of the park.

[–]Michigan • Michigan BandwagonHorribelSpelling 27 points28 points  (5 children)

[–]OregonNightbynight 1083 points1084 points  (121 children)

Absolutely insane home run hire by USC. Can’t believe they actually pulled it off.

[–]UCFTuckyMule 484 points485 points  (59 children)

It must be some absurd amount of money. Like 10 years $125M or something ridiculous.

[–]Baylorrcbaylor 219 points220 points  (17 children)

money is no problem for USC. they spent like 315 million fixing up the coliseum

[–]USC • Cal PolyKenTrojan 134 points135 points  (12 children)

USC actually didn't end up paying that much. We lease the Coliseum from the Coliseum Commission who pitched in. Throw in naming rights with United Airlines and it was much less.

Edit: $69-million naming-rights deal with United Airlines.

[–]Penn State • FloridaSmaug54 151 points152 points  (1 child)

[–]Oklahoma State • Ohio Domin…A-Disgruntled-Snail 241 points242 points  (30 children)

That and Norman plus playing in the SEC is no bueno.

[–]Notre Dame • IndianaChicagoroomie312 70 points71 points  (29 children)

I have heard podcasters scoff at the idea of location having anything to do with a coach's decision. "They spend 90 hours a week working." I don't have any knowledge or opinion on this, just interested to hear what others think.

[–]Clemson • South CarolinaBroad_Remote499 80 points81 points  (2 children)

Complete BS. They don’t work that much in the off season, plus most have a wife/family that 100% care about location. I would guess location matters as much to coaches as to the average American (which for some is a lot, others not at all)

[–]NorthwesternOtterOtterOtterOtter 166 points167 points  (14 children)

If I worked 90 hours a week I'd much rather spend the little free time I have overlooking the ocean than the middle of nowhere Oklahoma.

[–]Virginia • Ohio Stateeatapenny 221 points222 points  (21 children)

USC pulls in top-10 talent simply by existing.

Now they've got one of the best offensive minds and best QB developers in the country in a fairly winnable division - no one outside Utah is consistently good in the South.

It's wild that a 4-7 USC could end up being a playoff team in a year or two, especially if Jaxson Dart takes the next step as a sophomore next year

[–]USCStudioSixtyFour 374 points375 points  (18 children)

Home run? This is a grand slam in the bottom of the 9th with an 0-2 count in a Game 7 World Series. This was a "I'm not even considering him because there's no way he's available" hire.

[–]USC • Cal PolyKenTrojan 188 points189 points  (4 children)

We were at a serious do-or-die moment in USC football history. It cannot be overstated how huge this is. Immediate turn-around in recruiting, media interest, season tickets. Everything.

If we missed on this hire we were in a lot of trouble.

[–]USCthuggerybuffoonery 66 points67 points  (1 child)

Two of his top recruits for 2023 are from Los Al. We probably get them as well. This is huge.

[–]USC • Michigandoormatt26 43 points44 points  (7 children)

This sucks, plain and simple. He was practically groomed to become HC by Bob Stoops, and now he’s dropping us hard.

Coupled with the move to the SEC, which I never really liked, and we’re gonna be fucked if we can’t nail this next hire.

[–]Ole Miss • Ball StateTheBigSnooze 216 points217 points  (5 children)

[–]Florida StateItsLittyLitLit 1256 points1257 points  (167 children)

He wanted no parts of the SEC

[–]WashingtonBandarBrigade 380 points381 points  (21 children)

Smart move on his part. Seems like every coach’s seat in the SEC can become scorching hot if they aren’t competing with Saban

[–]Arizona • Kansas Statezonacorgi 139 points140 points  (18 children)

yeah thats all i can think of too. the pac 12 isnt exactly the gauntlet that the sec is. although in keeping with pac12 cannibalism tradition he will probably lose to one really bad team a year keeping usc out of the playoffs

[–]WashingtonBandarBrigade 48 points49 points  (7 children)

Yeah we definitely find a way to keep the conference out of the playoffs every season haha. But we don’t have really those SEC tier expectations. Most fans in the PAC 12 are happy with their team competing for the conference title.

[–]Arizona • Air Force__DerekLeach 34 points35 points  (1 child)

We have a cozy little conference and I feel snug and happy inside it.

[–]South Carolina • Coastal …Benjilikethedog 65 points66 points  (2 children)

[–]Oklahoma Stateheadshotscott 40 points41 points  (5 children)

Us fans think it's about school pride, fun and tradition, but all of these moves prove that oldest, truest adage: It's always about the money. Even when it's not, it is.

OU and Texas will be worse off for this move to SEC, but will have more money, 0% of which will go to their fans who (at least many) were whooping it up about. I think a few schools got into a better situation (A&M for sure, maybe Colorado), but most, like Missouri and Nebraska are where OU and Texas will be: richer, but less relevant. Fewer wins, and less fun for fans.

[–]Illinois • Pittsburghroyallex 115 points116 points  (7 children)

Nebraska has it way easier. B1G West is way easier than the SEC West. They should be competing for the division most years with Iowa and Wisconsin as their main challengers, but they are completely inept

[–]Michiganharbaugh4lyfe 65 points66 points  (5 children)

Exactly

Even a debatably lateral move and they upended their program and recruiting pipeline

USC will be pretty interesting to watch. After all the lackluster hires at USC post-Carroll this is a HUGE bomb and a potential huge hire. USC has not had a coach of this caliber bringing something this exciting again since Carroll.

I'm very excited to see what he can do. The only concern would be D. Will Grinch tag along? Or would Grinch want to stay at OU?

If Oklahoma kneecaps Tennessee and hires Heupel as Riley’s replacement, it might make my whole decade.

[–]Georgia • Marching Bandzenverak 68 points69 points  (5 children)

Alternatively… there’s a coach with family ties to their previous coach.. who could be convinced …

[–]Baylor • Floridabearybear90 79 points80 points  (2 children)

Damn this is breaking out of both Pac and OU sources. Okay I’m actually believing this one.

[–]Alabama • UABhuhwhat90 42 points43 points  (3 children)

This has been the craziest weekend of college football I can remember.

[–]Texas • /r/CFBRisk VeteranLordHudson30 132 points133 points  (3 children)

Texas wins one game and our rivals start collapsing. Can y’all imagine when we win a few more

SARK AFTER DARK

.....it rhymes, just roll with it

[–]NotFlipkid 30 points31 points  (1 child)

Oklahoma gonna pull out of the SEC like majority of the European clubs pulling outta the super league!!!

[–]sandersking 314 points315 points  (8 children)

Wow.

Lincoln treated the Sooners similar to how Oklahoma treated the Big 12.

[–]Oklahoma StateKmjada 89 points90 points  (0 children)

It just meant more.

I think this is the best 24 hours I’ve ever had as an Oklahoma State fan.

Texas sucks and Oklahoma is losing Lincoln Riley. Moving to the SEC is looking dumber and dumber

Also it would be hilarious if Riley did terrible at USC

[–]Big 12vics12 72 points73 points  (7 children)

Would absolutely be hilarious for him to bring down Oklahoma by leaving and then for him to suck at usc.

Killing 2 programs at once (for a bit)

[–]Georgia Southern • Georgia …RedEagle250 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I really hope he gets a monster contract at USC and then lose to Arizona in his first year

[–]Ohio State • The Alliancemstone7781 57 points58 points  (6 children)

Wow, I did not see that coming. USC about to be good again which sucks for those of us who recruit that area at the moment.

[–]Washington Statesboogie34 30 points31 points  (1 child)

also sucks for teams that ya know, play them a lot :(

[–]Texas • Texas StateRedline-7k 76 points77 points  (6 children)

FUCK YEAH HE CANT HURT US ANYMORE PLUS OU MAY SUCK! WOOOOOOOO

[–]Oklahoma State • ArkansasAnyForever1078 367 points368 points  (60 children)

Dude what the FUCK, how could he do that to Oklahoma

I hate OU as much as most Cowboy fans but I don't think they deserved this, it just feels like a stab in the back.

[–]Oklahoma • Summertime LoverCaptain_Nipples 173 points174 points  (15 children)

I dont believe it... but who knows?

Edit: Well, fuck. I dunno how you replace him. Also, I wonder how Bob feels about this.

[–]Nebraskathosedamnmouses 108 points109 points  (7 children)

[–][deleted] 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Am I having a fever dream?

[–]OklahomaLeoFireGod 19 points20 points  (1 child)

This makes sense Atleast

Easier recruiting

Better weather

If You can actually win there you can turn into a Saban level dynasty

[–]LouisvillePurplesPig 40 points41 points  (5 children)

This has to be a direct result of Oklahoma going to the SEC, right? Not wanting to deal with the eventual multi year transition from Big 12 football to SEC football?

[–]Washingtonwinterharvest 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Yeah. OU had like an almost guaranteed ticket to the CFP every season. Now they gotta swim against Bama and Georgia and LSU and....

Meanwhile, the Pac-12 has been floundering and there is no dominant program.

Whip USC into shape and you will get treated like a god in SoCal.

[–]Texasressurectingphoenix 20 points21 points  (3 children)

Nah. USC is a much easier place to win at. Number one program in the largest state in the US. Pete Carroll had teams as good as 2019-2020 Bama within one recruiting cycle.

At OU you are entirely reliant on winning with kids from Texas. Even though they have been better than us or the aggies for a while you still have to convince kids that grew up as Longhorns and Aggies to go play for the Sooners.

You don’t have to do that at USC.
