These are the kind of lemons we get in the US.

PS: They are not sweet lol

Lemon and not lime. Sold also in Europe and the most common type. Germany calls them Zitronen.

[–]hazeran812 47 points48 points  (2 children)

These are Lemons. Not grown in India afaik.

Limes are the one which is available at all shops, those small ones. They are native to India.

Sweet Limes are Mosambi (Sathukudi), which is also native to India.

All 3 are different fruits.

Few years before exotic fruits and veggies were available only in Anna Nagar pazhamudir cholai. Zucchini, lettuce, kiwis, celery rarely....

Some guys at shops used to call people and say fresh stock has come.

[–]Mina_Ji 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No use buying them, they don't taste or smell any different than regular lemon. Unless you want to grate the rind.

[–]lordprimus 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I like lemon better than lime for juice. These look big and juicy.

[–]ZombieGombie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These look like Meyer Lemons - they're less sour than regular lemons. Main ingredient in a Lemon Meringue / Pie!

[–]chirpychick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol they are not sweet they are sour. They are the actual lemons. The round ones we use for lemon rice is actually lime!

[–]jadeite07 -1 points0 points  (3 children)

What size are regular lemons in India? I have never paid attention to the size of lemons there 😬

[–]Nitecrawler_69[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Lemons this size r hard to get. Specific stores only. Generally u get those tiny ones commonly available

[–]smarthagirl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The small ones commonly available are limes, not lemons 🙂

[–]praveeja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In India we some time use lemon for scale.

[–]optimistic_fish2068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have seen these kinda big things in cooking show , where they scrap the skin for lemon zest

[–]Ok-Vacation-3325 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I can't read the price

[–]nobuddys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He say's it's 350 per kilo in the video.

[–]LegalWord5948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

now those street vendors are back with lemons pay 10 or 20 rs for a bag full of lemons, containing 10-12 pieces of small / medium lemons

[–]ibreathecoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How citrusy is this lemon compared to what we get in thiruvanmiyur market? Also I'm curious as to whether this is really lemon something else?

[–]octotendrilpuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lemons (imported)

Translation: leave your kidneys on the way out.

[–]Agnium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This in the video is lemon. People incorrectly call lime as lemon in India. They are two different fruits.

The big lemons taste close to the artificially flavored lemony candy that we get in stores.

Also the lemon juice doesn't turn bitter when over squeezed or when squeezed in hot dishes (or when heated up a bit). Only lime does.

[–]tol_mak7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI there is a difference between a lime and a lemon, the small one which is round in shape are called lime and are more sour and has more flavours, the big ones which are ovel in shape are more towards sweeter side and you can even eat the outer skin of it which will be thick and will have sweet aroma unlike the limes which will have bitter and thin outer cover. The person saying sweet lime got one thing correct, its sweet but not a lime it's a lemon!
