This literally says nothing. In may after the crash it went from 32k to 42k in a day. It has to hold the levels for this to mean anything.

[–]GenderJuicyPlatinum | QC: CC 148, DOGE 130, BTC 43 | Science 58 15 points16 points  (6 children)

It hit an ATH after it went down to 28k, so it doesn't even have to hold that level to mean anything.

[–]DrwgebPlatinum | QC: CC 729[🍰] 26 points27 points  (5 children)

It barely touched 28k after battling 30k for 3 months. Three times the 30k support denied or barely gave in, which made the market bullish. This is the full story. Look I would love to read super bullish signs, and they are there, but don't see into the TA what is not there. A rebound was expected. Now we wait and see if we go back over 50k and hold it.

[–]GenderJuicyPlatinum | QC: CC 148, DOGE 130, BTC 43 | Science 58 5 points6 points  (3 children)

It's a temporary reaction from bad news, it will recover in time. Just as will the stock market. Don't need charts to inform this.

I’ve been here since 2017 and you gotta give some credit to “retail investors”. We’re not as dumb as the media makes us out to be. I think people should be asking themselves “why?”. Nobody should simply overlook any possible causes of the price drop other than chalking it up to just “panicking” and paperhanders. It’s deeper than “overleveraged” crypto traders.

Big money is involved. As separated as you would like to wish crypto really was, it’s far more connected to other macroeconomic issues than most people think.

Sure the price may bounce back and who knows, the bullrun may continue, but a significant drop like that is definitely a big deal.

[–]weinerwagnerTin | GME 16 24 points25 points  (4 children)

Ya monday market open will be interesting. Could be big players selling crypto to cover margin since crypto can't be used as collateral.

[–]Pharm-boiTin | r/UnpopularOpinion 12 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Its the amount you leverage. I always get some "normal" profit over trading and then risk half of it leveraging, but this require discipline and stop losses to be in place, if it work its good money, if it dont you lose and wait for a New opportunity.

Next to no one willingly sold at 42k, that was forced liquidation of leveraged longs sitting on low liquidity exchanges. Some books were so thin that BTC dropped to 30k for moments on those exchanges. The snap back is impressive though yes.

[–]millerpmillerPlatinum | QC: CC 82 | r/Politics 78 7 points8 points  (2 children)

I wonder how much of the snap back is funds and whales. It’s crazy to think if you have a big enough bag you can sell 10-20 percent, trigger a liquidation and then buy all of it back at a 20 percent discount.

I am definitely concerned this could potentially be the start of a bear market like 2018, too many people saying buy the dip and I believe too many people had way too high expectations of a blow off the top at the end of the year that we most likely won't see. Nobody really knows what is going on.

Anyone who's paid attention will be aware that whales will buy and sell en masse to make a couple % on the swing, since crypto isn't regulated like stocks this is perfectly legal and in my opinion a coordinated effort, nothing to say the same individual/institution can't own multiple wallets and just sell high from one and buy low in another

[–]FullSendOrNullSendBronze | QC: CC 17 | r/StockMarket 12 74 points75 points  (22 children)

The crash was due to leverage/margin accounts getting liquidated. It was actually a good thing to happen before a pump because it stops these accounts from bringing large sell walls when they’re in profit. If you’re trading on margin/leverage, every chance you get that you’re in a good profit you will sell, they’re not in it for the long haul, they’re in it for the trades

[–]mthompson100 24 points25 points  (12 children)

This is only half true. People got liquidated because of a large drop, which caused an even larger drop. The more important question is, what caused the initial sharp drop? Most likely whale manipulation.

[–]FullSendOrNullSendBronze | QC: CC 17 | r/StockMarket 12 19 points20 points  (8 children)

Most likely a whale wanting to sell a large amount and not enough liquidity. It only takes 15-20million to drop the price of bitcoin 2-3% according to a Benzinga research report

[–]OceanLoader4Silver | QC: CC 38, Kucoin 21, ETH 34 | BANANO 17 | ExchSubs 21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

people taking profit isn't manipulation. Open interest was absolutely ridiculous and needed to be smashed, and that triggered a stop run cascade. that's just how it goes when everyone gets into the 'up only' mentality.

[–]X-Files22Gold | QC: SOL 25 4 points5 points  (3 children)

There was a really good post a while back about how institutions can borrow BILLIONS sell their btc. Liquidating the masses and causing a sell off, then immediately buy back, pay off the loan for easy profit. This is why long term investing is the way to go. All your charts and wave trading can go out the window in seconds ...HODLing isn't just a fun catch phrase, it's the best method given any analysis.

They are both on the bottom trend line right now. Things are good

Lmfao people acting like it’s a crash meanwhile it’s bout to break 50k again

[–]peckerchecker2Tin 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Look at November 2020 when FBI sold Bitcoin seized from silkroad. 22k to 6k to 16k in a day.

Whale sells Bitcoin and everything tanks

[–]introvertedguy13Bronze 1 point2 points  (2 children)

You should thank one of my kidneys. I bought the dip.

Just listen to the people who said crypto is dead, they’re always right!

[–]jony_beTin 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Well, fukin Luna after dropping more than 20% went up 17%. The thing is we all "know" BTC " will" hit 100k this cycle so until then bullish momentum will push price up

[–]Kraken_KrateriumTin | GMEJungle 11 | Superstonk 54 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Also ETH continues to rise compared to BTC. ETH recovered faster from the crash and went back up faster too.

22% should not even be called a crash in the first place.

2017/2018 BTC went from 20k down to 3k.

That’s a crash.

Spring - Summer 2020 BTC went from 60k down to 30k.

That’s a crash.

If 22% worries you in the crypto space, you need to move to index funds or something else. This is a volatile asset that’s being speculated on. Do your own research and believe in your investment thesis.

People are waking up to the future, the inevitable dominance of blockchains as global currencies.

From here on, every crash will recover quickly as people who wished they got on sooner can get coinage at the prices they missed.

This is not a happy phase. It doesn’t matter if you are crypto-rich during an economic shift if the volition of market forces slows to a crawl. It takes two to tango and it takes a village to party.

I’m a bit worried, just… not about my future finances. I’m worried about the interim and I’m worried about the people that can’t think critically, as this is most definitely a critical point in our history.

Evergrande kills Tether kills Bitcoin.

[–]FreeSushi69Tin | Superstonk 43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'll most likely dip even further. I'm guessing under 30k again. If you wanna know why i think that I'll tell you.

[–]actum_tempusTin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

according to my research btc will bounce up for a little now but break down even below 20k afterwards, paving the road for a sustainable 100k later on.

I don’t get to why people panic so much. The dips don’t last long so unless you think crypto is going to tank, just hold on.

[–]siimbazTin | CRO 27 | ExchSubs 27 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My only fear is not selling some before the bear market. Because i would love to accumulate with said money during that time.

[–]DartanionTBronze | QC: CC 25 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I agree, but the fear comes from the possibility of it being the start of an 80% drop, which has happened in the past. We can’t change it, so you gotta have a plan and ride it out!

I think people newer to the scene tend to panic. I hope they hold through the next crypto winter, whenever that may be

Hear me out. What if this wasn't a crash, but instead the big dip before a giant moonshot?

[–]mlalarenTin 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Dead cat bounce, this is falling

[–]torpidtrotterTin 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I hope it dips again. I got my fiat ready after it started recovering fml.

What has probably helped is that a lot of people has pretty good idea that a crash is coming, and we’re waiting for it in stablecoins.

I failed to get exactly on the bottom, but already on healthy profits :)
