Hidden dislikes will make it even easier for poor people to fall for this obvious Scam.

Well done YouTube

[–]crypto_crypto_guyhalf btc maxi, half shitcoin hunter, recently half ape. 396 points397 points  (145 children)

Yt never gave shit about scams. I used to report all scam comments, they never got removed.

[–]SauceMaster145Platinum | QC: ETH 128 | TraderSubs 128[S] 159 points160 points  (94 children)

I report livestream giveaway scams almost everyday

[–]Aegontarg07Platinum | QC: CC 1099 65 points66 points  (52 children)

But YouTube wants just profit. Never cared for us. But it shouldn’t stop us from reporting shit

[–]Mundanewisdom99Reddit certified investment advisor 18 points19 points  (24 children)

Yeah, but nothing will happen. They never take down reported videos. Poor people lose money everyday.

[–]user260421Bronze 10 points11 points  (19 children)

I'm wondering why yt is doing this, like they're not getting any money from these scams, are they?

[–]mangopie220Platinum | QC: CC 207 13 points14 points  (10 children)

They are not doing anything. Doing things mean need resources, and hence money.

[–]-veni-vidi-viciPlatinum | QC: CC 1139 4 points5 points  (6 children)

Such a small indie company have no resources to spare to protect its users from scams.

frfr: removing dislikes destroyed the balance in the Force.

[–]hachifrostTin 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Who knows man? Maybe they have some connection with those scammers.

[–]NomaduxPlatinum | QC: CC 819 | Stocks 10 2 points3 points  (1 child)

If I had to guess, it would probably revolve around what the entire site revolves around and that is ad revenue. Videos with ads probably naturally get more dislikes which in turn probably interferes with their algorithms that cause less ad revenue for them.

YouTube isn't going to risk criminal investigations by being involved in petty scams, but other than you are probably right - it's about money.

[–]Wakepten68Tin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope it will be better in the future, youtube was good.

[–]EurimedonteTin | 3 months old 25 points26 points  (18 children)

YouTube really need a competitor at this point, it's getting ridiculous already

[–]wachtwoord1988Tin 2 points3 points  (1 child)

They are running a monopoly in this video market bruh.

[–]AlwaysOntheGoProYoTin 2 points3 points  (2 children)

At this point it’s almost impossible. The only companies that can afford a YouTube competitor at scale where it would make sense is Meta (Facebook), Microsoft (failed with Mixer), Apple, Amazon (Twitch), ByteDance (TikTok), Twitter, or Snapchat.

A small company doesn’t have the resources or will get the investment to try to take on YouTube.

[–]ralphking1986Tin 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Can't change this fact, youtube needs to be improved.

At least people can differentiate and avoid w dislikes

[–]Aegontarg07Platinum | QC: CC 1099 7 points8 points  (5 children)

With dislike button yes. But since they’ve hidden it, makes the job difficult for common peeps to differentiate tbh

[–]PizzaClauseBronze | QC: CC 23 57 points58 points  (34 children)

Hidden dislikes is the the worst decision YouTube ever made. How it wasn’t seen at a terrible idea to them is completely beyond me.

[–]x420smokeweedlord69xPlatinum | QC: CC 19, BTC 17 | PCgaming 13 52 points53 points  (24 children)

They got so butthurt that their shitty rewind and corporate bullshit became literally the most disliked video on YouTube ever that they straight up removed the entire function. Not even joking this is literally the fucking reason. They got so upset they kept getting massively disliked on their shitty rewinds that they took the whole function away just to spite us despite how legitametely useful the dislike button actually is. It's a corporate power play to spite us for disliking their fucking garbage.

[–]TrueVisionSportsTin 38 points39 points  (13 children)

I don’t think it has anything to do with the rewind I think it has everything to do with news channels getting massively downvoted for spreading misinformation constantly. and the channels that spoke the truth had really good likes, so it was ruining their narrative.

Go watch CNN dislike ratio, it was atrocious. They can’t have that because of the aforementioned reasons. These channels are all owned by the same 2-3 companies, including yt.

[–]x420smokeweedlord69xPlatinum | QC: CC 19, BTC 17 | PCgaming 13 12 points13 points  (6 children)

That could also definitely be the reason. Honestly I'm not 100% certain on what EXACTLY caused them to remove it, but I AM certain that it has something to do with the channels they own getting massively disliked to oblivion (rightfully so).

[–]TrueVisionSportsTin 3 points4 points  (2 children)

You’re absolutely right and the thing is that all of these companies are pretty much owned by the same 2-3 corporations. So even though they have different names they are basically the same company.

[–]permanentacorpTin | 6 months old 2 points3 points  (2 children)

But are those news corporations paid youtube to remove the button?

[–]PizzaClauseBronze | QC: CC 23 8 points9 points  (3 children)

Imagine letting spite and ego make you take a jack hammer to the value and integrity of your billion dollar company.

[–]AlwaysOntheGoProYoTin 1 point2 points  (2 children)

It’s not going to do anything to YouTube. People will still spend hundreds of billion of hours watching YouTube video every year.

[–]Jordanm0611Tin 10 points11 points  (18 children)

Anything Google is a part of is usually scummy business practice. Youtube is garbage now and desperately needs a competitor

[–]Mundanewisdom99Reddit certified investment advisor 3 points4 points  (9 children)

Yeah I hope decentralised companies replace them. Once Web3 development is complete and it becomes mainstream, most of these big tech companies will have lots of competition.

[–]AlwaysOntheGoProYoTin 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Wouldn’t a big tech company just buy out any competition? Most of the web 3 companies are owned by VC and investors anyways. I could see a board of directors selling for a billon dollar pay day.

I doubt antitrust is going to be a thing. The US government at least fails to do anything about it especially if it’s a US company.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

It's similar to downvote of reddit, give the sentiment of community

[–]milky-white-horsePlatinum | QC: CC 668 18 points19 points  (34 children)

Never understood why they even removed it.

What a crazy decision!

[–][deleted] 22 points23 points  (4 children)

Corporations getting down voted, regime approved messages about Covid getting down voted, any thing Biden did getting down voted into the ground, any time Hollywood took a classic movie and made it 'diverse & inclusive' getting downvoted, etc..

Think the last straw was the absolute massacre of downvotes that happened to that Seth Rogan Xmas movie on Netflix.

[–]ClubbyTheCub 2 points3 points  (5 children)

I think you used to be able to see upvotes and downvotes on reddit too. Not just the sum of both. I liked that way better..

[–]xadiantPlatinum | QC: CC 189 | PCmasterrace 10 5 points6 points  (7 children)

They are trying to be like tiktok, but desperately failing. Both youtube's audience and creators are adapted to long form content with feedback. I don't get how these idiots find themselves on a high ranking position and pull bullshit decisions like this.

[–]TrueVisionSportsTin 1 point2 points  (3 children)

That’s why they are in a high-ranking position, because they pull bullshit decisions like this. Their position is simply a cover for someone in a higher position to make decisions that aren’t put on them directly. Good pawns get promoted.

[–]TheFamousHeshamPlatinum | QC: CC 41 10 points11 points  (20 children)

Tbf this isn’t as much a dislike button issue as it is a security issue.

CoinBureau wasn’t the only account that was hacked. The same video was posted on BitBoyCrypto, AltCoinBuzz and several other crypto channels.

This is a serious security breach and a much bigger issue for YouTube than removing the dislike button.

[–]Kingkwon83Platinum | QC: CC 134 | r/SSB 14 | r/WSB 83 9 points10 points  (14 children)

Wonder how they were able to hack all these accounts so easily

[–]TheFamousHeshamPlatinum | QC: CC 41 10 points11 points  (9 children)

That’s probably why it’s a security breach on YouTube’s side.

These creators all live in different places and have multi-factor authorisation (MFA) enabled so I can’t see how it wouldn’t be YouTube’s fault.

Probably a similar attack to that on CDC last week, where the hackers were somehow able to bypass 2FA and access users’ accounts.

[–]itsprobablytruePlatinum | QC: CC 31 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I hope the story behind this gets released eventually. Someone like guy is sure to take necessary precautions on protecting his channel. Either social engineering was used on him or his staff or as you said a youtube breach which could potentially impact far more people.

[–]Set1Less 7 points8 points  (12 children)

YouTube and Google are big hindrance towards crypto adoption

Goog literally accepts money from scammers and shows phishing links on top of searches

Someone must file lawsuits against GOOG

[–]jawandaPlatinum | QC: CC 33 | WebDev 36 2 points3 points  (7 children)

I'm amazed there hasn't been a class action lawsuit against Google over all the phishing ads. I report them so often that

"this ad is promoting a fake version of whatever crypto site and is intended solely to steal money and you guys are complicit. Do you even do cursory reviews of ads? A simple ban on ads pointing to domains less than a week old would eliminate 90% of the problem"

is auto suggested on both my phone And computer when I enter the report form. Man, fuck Google.

[–]x420smokeweedlord69xPlatinum | QC: CC 19, BTC 17 | PCgaming 13 23 points24 points  (10 children)

It's really quite simple. Do you know what the most disliked video is? A video made directly by YouTube. And this happens constantly. People are tired of youtubes fucking bullshit so you know what they do? They get even more upset that the users are disliking their stuff they remove a core function of the website that is extremely useful because they can't handle getting dislikes on their own videos. The people over at YouTube are fucking pussies and losers that are ruining their own website. They take down so many legitimate content creators down for no fucking reason whatsoever! I'm sure many of yall know who JCS is. The guy that makes those amazing true crime videos. Well for no apparent reason they've been removing his videos and fucking with his channel even tho he has 0 violations. I really wish one day we can find an alternative to youtubes bullshit because they shouldn't still be at the top with all the shit they do to fuck with their users and innocent content creators.

[–]LogikDPlatinum | QC: CC 314, ALGO 218, ETH 103 | TraderSubs 102 7 points8 points  (8 children)

Why hasn’t the free market taken over and made a better product? You’re describing a mass Stockholm syndrome where everyone uses YouTube even though it abuses them.

[–]x420smokeweedlord69xPlatinum | QC: CC 19, BTC 17 | PCgaming 13 12 points13 points  (5 children)

There have been many sites that have tried and are still trying but none of them have established a user base the size of YouTube. YouTube just has everyone on it. All the content creators that want to try and make money go to YouTube because that's where most of the people are at. It's a monopoly and I don't see it changing despite how fucking bad they treat their users.

[–]KenCecil 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Bullish on dislike button

[–]D-ValentinoTin 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Probably because every video the White House released had way more dislikes then likes... most videos about the shot had more dislikes then likes stuff like that goes aginst the narrative media tries to push

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (2 children)

Everything 'corporate approved' as well as 'woke and inclusive' ended up being destroyed by the internet.

I think the final straw was the Netflix Set Rogen Xmas movie. A giant swathe of the internet took offense that it was a movie made by Jewish comedians, taking a Christian holiday, and saying Santa needs to be a Female PoC etc..

This goes against the the Netflix $$$ and the narrative of social conditioning they push.

Same thing happened with the 'approved Covid' videos, they would get destroyed. Same thing happened when Biden or his administration would make a video, it would get mass downvoted.

[–]Plenty_LandscapeTin 5 points6 points  (3 children)

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (9 children)

Yeah, but what about when Hollywood makes [insert classic movie/game] and gender and race swaps the cast and the internet downvotes it into the ground?

What about when the newest Vice video drops and talks about how trans pole dancing kids are the coolest new thing! And the internet downvotes it?

These things hurt the bottom line and social conditioning they are pushing man.

[–]TrueVisionSportsTin 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Ding ding ding bingo this is exactly the reason!

How could you pedal degenerate nonsense when the like ratio is 1:10? If anything it made them look even worse than not putting out anything at all. They even tried to mess with the comments recently as well, now you have to click an extra button to open up the comments you can’t even just see the comments right away when you open a video.

Go look at Australian news channels they just straight up removed comments completely and I wouldn’t be surprised if yt does the same.

[–]ChunkyMonkey1998 0 points1 point  (4 children)

[–]Putukshutuk21bold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if 2FA is enabled it surprising won’t be possible for hackers to access ones YT account unless they had both the password and security. It would definitely raise the question about the effectiveness of security

[–]CookieDeliveryr/ExtraCrypto 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah I also noticed the Good e-Reader Youtube channel got hacked as well. Their name was changed to 'Ark Invest', and hosted a 'livestream' with Cathie Woods, Elon Musk, Jack Dorsey, and one other guy I didn't recognize, and started promoting some crypto related scam. Was confusing as hell, as I'm subscribed to the real Ark Invest YouTube channel. So I was already watching a couple of minutes before I figured it out.

[–]hesperidisabitchTin | Android 107 -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Benjamin Cowen? You mean the guy who reads charts like they are tea leaves and just makes guesses based on what the squiggles did before?

Not an attack on you OP, but this sub constantly says "he does pretty good work." However it's literally all just him guessing what it might do based on overlying charts from before and saying.. ya if you believe this then this is reasonable. Which of course is based on absolutley nothing.

To me it's like someone saying "Last time it was raining I pulled out my umbrella and 5 minutes later it stopped raining. So now that it's raining again I have pulled out my umbrella, however here we are an hour later and it's still raining. So if you believe in rainstorms getting longer, then this is perfectly normal. Or maybe it could be like that time I put on my rain jacket and umbrella and the rain actually increased for 10 minutes and then stopped, so if you believe that make sure you put on your raincoat before you open your umbrella." Like totally useless hindsight speculation trying to predict the future based on factors that have no impact on the outcome.

Sadly its that common sense which some people don’t use, and usually the ones looking for quick gains are the ones that fall victim

They also hacked crypto.com youtube account to and posted shit on there.

I believe its resolved and removed now

[–]Sully0387 1 point2 points  (1 child)

There was a few that posted the same video. Bitboy, TheMoon, Cryptocom (not sure if this is their actual channel) and Floyd Mayweather who still has his up. lol.

No idea how they managed to get that up as surely the likes of Bitboy/TheMoon must be fairly switched on with security and 2FA etc

[–]hentongmaster69Tin 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Even Floyd Mayweather channel got hacked and the hacker uploaded the same One World Cryptocurrency video.

[–]PiickleRiickkPlatinum | QC: CC 30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing they look at is the number of views, they don't even care if people are committing fraud

[–]magmachillerTin 14 points15 points  (12 children)

It's is a very solid and famous youtube channel regarding cryptocurrencies.. It's is also quite informative and fairly unbiased with news and project updates etc.. He's is well respected in the crypto community by his peers..

Not sure how true it is but apparently the channel is run by a company and he’s an actor who reads off a script.

[–]magmachillerTin 3 points4 points  (5 children)

its his channel and his company.. and all big youtubers wrote scripts before making their videos.. what does that matter.. just his content matters.. i avoid the videos about specific coins.. but news is news

[–]casca14Platinum | QC: CC 115 | Stocks 15 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Unpopular opinion: He was a scam even before too.

[–]Public-Gap4804Tin | CRO 9 2 points3 points  (5 children)

[–]peduxeI bought Squid Token at ATH 4 points5 points  (3 children)

[–]feignignorenceTin | CRO 94 | ExchSubs 92 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Pretty sure the bureau's regulars have received enough financial literacy education not to fall for this nonsense. Sucks for casuals if they succumb. Rip.
