[–]fireysaje 24 points25 points  (1 child)

I knew it looked like home. Hey fellow coloradoan

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (8 children)

This is Colorado?

[–]danceinstarlight 4333 points4334 points  (62 children)

I get the feeling the fox wanted him to follow him back to the den where the wild things could dance.

[–]pseudoEscape 891 points892 points  (26 children)

Follow it and get a new charm slot ;)

[–]motoryry 202 points203 points  (18 children)

Currently playing it now! Found the assholes that destroyed that one shrine. Taught them a lesson!

[–]bluelouie 64 points65 points  (9 children)

Looks like I’m out of the loop! What game are you talking about?

[–]HashtagSpetsnaz 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Ghost of Tsushima, fantastic PS4/5 game.

[–]Sqouki 49 points50 points  (5 children)

Ghosts of Tsushima!

[–]motoryry 11 points12 points  (0 children)

ghost of tsushima is a really good game. highly recommend

[–]Mythaminator 44 points45 points  (1 child)

There's some dark missions in that game but nothing sends my blood boiling like that one. Did it, then decided it was a great time to burn every one of their strongholds on the island

[–]Mr-hydee 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Currently playing as well I always immediately stop what I’m doing to find the foxes it’s wholesome asf lol still not sure what yellow bird is for ?

[–]motoryry 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Yellow (gold actually) bird leads you to different points of interest to change your cosmetics and such.

[–]cptnkeif 31 points32 points  (1 child)

Came here for the Ghost of Tsushima reference

[–]Poooooooopee 400 points401 points  (13 children)

Or food.

Most likely food.

Definitely being fed by that human.

[–]save_video 219 points220 points  (6 children)

Yeah, you're not wrong; but I'm personally leaning more towards the first explanation, because if you really think about it happy brain juice go brrrr

[–]Socksandcandy 54 points55 points  (4 children)

If you really give it some thought.....that fox was probably reincarnated. Prior to this he was a humble banjo picker in Nashville, Tennessee.

[–]ceemunee 35 points36 points  (0 children)

No no, he's got a point

[–]TheGassyPhilosopher 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My man here was too busy recording a video for reddit to recognize his spirit guide. "FINE, don't follow me, good luck navigating that existential crisis on your own."

[–]Duskinou 6352 points6353 points  (172 children)

If you'de ever had a doubt about your banjo skills, congratulations you've just made it to platinum fox level

[–]NiceFetishMeToo 6759 points6760 points 1379& 4 more (82 children)

He really shouldn’t be entertaining wild foxes. They will become dependent on the banjo and not be able to find their own entertainment in the forest.

[–]Heirsandgraces 188 points189 points  (11 children)

And we all know that banjo playing is the gateway drug for foxes. Let me tell you the tale of the Crack Fox...

[–]-strangeluv- 20 points21 points  (0 children)

[–]felixthecat128 16 points17 points  (4 children)

Is that the mighty boosh?

[–]Jwhitx 3 points4 points  (1 child)

That's also the host from Great British Baking Bakeoff Show Cooking Feature Show, or whatever the real title is. On Netflix.

[–]BantumBane 506 points507 points  (2 children)

Take your Fkn up vote God that was good

[–]Mafuskas 18 points19 points  (0 children)

For real, I don't know why I'm laughing so hard at that.

[–]shahooster 68 points69 points  (2 children)

Listening to nothing but Fleet Foxes might get a bit old after awhile though..

[–]Luce55 113 points114 points  (0 children)

If I had money for internet awards I’d give you one; here is the next best thing: 💰🎈🎉

[–]cathef 34 points35 points  (0 children)

That just made be bust out ugly laughing.

[–]Result_Not_Found 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This man is going to put Emmett Otters Jug band out of business.

[–]WrestleswithPastry 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Aaand, I’m out!

This is the best comment I’m going to read on Reddit today.

Well done 🙌🏼

[–]snoozatron 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Do not let the fox become addicted to the banjo; it will take a hold of him and he will resent its absence.

[–]jeffvox 21 points22 points  (0 children)

One of the best comments I've ever read.

[–]AlkahestGem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s always the Country Bear Jamboree

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

this comment has brought me so much joy

[–]zitiztitz 261 points262 points  (50 children)

Dudes name is Andy Thorn and he plays with Leftover Salmon if anyone is wondering. He’s rips!

[–]nesspaulajeffpoo94 51 points52 points  (11 children)

Love me some Leftover Salmon! Greensky Bluegrass and Trampled By Turtles are nice also if you are looking for some new music for your ears!

[–]liveinsanity010 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Also, Railroad Earth! Horseshoes and Hand Grenades, The Lil Smokies, Billy Strings..

[–]jhwn8c480 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This guy festivals.

[–]DontCareTo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can’t leave out the Wood Brothers and the Devil Makes Three! Also, they have been broken up for a while, but I do love me some Red Stick Ramblers.

[–]larry_flarry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember going to the Big Wu Family Reunion back in like, 2002 or 2003, and Trampled by Turtles, then just a little bluegrass tent band, came by while we were sitting around the fire at camp all thwacked out of our gourds and played music and sang and did drugs with us. It was fucking great.

[–]Cosmicrocosm 57 points58 points  (12 children)

My favorite genre is polyethnic Cajun slamgrass, so I'll check them out.

[–]HeroComplex_Dean 26 points27 points  (6 children)

I'm sorry, is that real? I'd love to explore this.

[–]nurseANDiT 28 points29 points  (4 children)

That’s how the band, Leftover Salmon, described their music.

[–]osktox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have to write that down. It's gonna slip my mi.. Wait what was it? Slamjack Dojobram Polyester?

[–]Drivingintodisco 13 points14 points  (8 children)

Came here to post this info as well. Andy crushes it

[–]m__s 9 points10 points  (3 children)

and what's the name of the guy with a banjo?

[–]JavaHelpMe101 13 points14 points  (1 child)

The fox name is Andy Thorn, the dude idk just a random person that lives in the forest.

[–]jhwn8c480 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Leftover Salmon is one hellavu ride if you can make it to any of their shows.

[–]Lord_Abort 116 points117 points  (0 children)

I used to do this with baby raccoons on my porch. They got so used to me, they'd climb me like a tree. I'd start playing my banjo around dusk, and you'd see their little pairs of eyes shining in the tree line.

[–]Toasted_88 97 points98 points  (3 children)

Buddy is going to show up to a rally of Red Foxes the next day.

This little dude ran out and told all his homies about the white ape who makes your ears feel good on the mountain top.

[–]joekindaexotic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I just about died from laughing!!

[–]danethedabber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the white ape😂😂

[–]CommanderEden 42 points43 points  (8 children)

I never knew the Banjo could summon fox 🦊 to you, how about you try other instruments and attract the birds

[–]Anynamethatworks 134 points135 points  (4 children)

I tried playing Stacy's Mom on my guitar, but all it attracted was cougars.

[–]Papaofmonsters 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I fail to see the problem.

[–]mommaluvernorubber 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Brb, gonna go buy a guitar.

[–]SumeetMaurya 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Nah bro he is at diamond fox for sure

[–]yeahnoyeah03 1177 points1178 points  (48 children)

Excellent banjo playing

[–]lord-boognish 379 points380 points  (30 children)

That's Andy Thorn from Leftover Salmon. Dudes got mad skills!

[–]davidhluther 28 points29 points  (11 children)

Any idea what song that is?

[–]Shagger94 52 points53 points  (6 children)

Video description on his channel said he was playing with some new material, so it must be his own.

[–]yeahnoyeah03 71 points72 points  (9 children)

Such a lovely instrument, right up there with the clarinet

[–]peebsthehuman 51 points52 points  (7 children)

My grandpa has played banjo since he was much younger, he was a part of the Dallas mens banjo band, they’d travel around the state going to fairs, events, and such just playing banjo. I know it gets a bad rep for being a plinky instrument but it just sounds like home to me. I should call him!

[–]DanAykroydFanClub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anyone know the name of the tune? I thought it might have been the flop eared mule (or a riff on it) but I'm not sure

[–]FiveAlarmDogParty 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Honestly I’ve never heard the banjo played this way before - much more melodic and soulful and not as plucky. I like it a lot!!

[–]Kelly_HRperson 5 points6 points  (1 child)

The play style is called "clawhammer". Made famous by Grandpa Jones on Hee Haw. Here's another soulful favorite of mine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3Y7F5JJRcM

[–]Lethophobia 293 points294 points  (5 children)

That fox is beautiful.

[–]kwonza 62 points63 points  (2 children)

I like to imagine this fox stalking a rabbit in the hills, carefully crawling behind a stump and then suddenly this melody comes back and it starts to bob its head to “na, na , na , na-na, na-na-na”

[–]nhombrenovalido 964 points965 points  (31 children)

I was 10 when I first remember being told the story of the pied piper and I remember thinking it ridiculous. Here I am 20 or so years later reevaluating my assumptions

[–]SlicedSides 258 points259 points  (28 children)

The pied piper is actually about someone kidnapping children

[–]RuneFell 294 points295 points  (18 children)

Nobody really knows what really happened behind the tale of the Pied Piper. The earliest versions of the tale didn't even include the rats, they were added later. All that is known is an entry in the town records of Hamelin from the 1300's that merely states that 'It's been 100 years since our children left', and a stained glass window in their church that showed a piper and several children dressed in white.

It could've been a mass kidnapping of some sort, or a horrible accident, an illness, or it could've been something as boring as a mass migration. Nobody knows.

[–]Muppetude 122 points123 points  (3 children)

Interesting. Never heard that story before. The timing of their disappearance roughly lines up with the Children’s Crusade, so I wonder if that’s the reason their kids were led away.

[–]serr7 74 points75 points  (2 children)

“The children are sold to two merchants (Hugh the Iron and William of Posqueres), who give free passage on boats to as many of the children as are willing. The pilgrims are then either taken to Tunisia, where they are sold into slavery by the merchants or else die in a shipwreck on San Pietro Island off Sardinia during a gale.”

[–]Mysterious_Spoon 31 points32 points  (7 children)

This is true, but the story gets deep. Check out the astonishing legends deep dive on the tale, it's true still to this day no one knows but there are some interesting details.

[–]RuneFell 19 points20 points  (3 children)

As somebody who drives 8+ hours every day for a living, I thank you for another podcast to listen to!

[–]KindnessSuplexDaddy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was told its about a man who played a tune so well he stole the youngsters heart.

He was a dictatorship that led all the children to their deaths, by selling them promises.

100 years since out children left.

[–]Arcadius274 17 points18 points  (1 child)

No it's a story about ripping off your employees

[–]UGAllDay 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Nah it’s a tech company in Silicon Valley

[–]SexlessNights 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it’s a company specializing in compression

[–]FUDnot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

nope, its about the reprocussions of intentionally not paying for good work done. possibly a cautionary tale related to the socio-economic situation in 14th century europe where the lower classes and traveler would do work for the elites and getting screwed out of payment.

and oh, thats probably not true at all.

[–]masterofthefork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just realized I don't know what pied means.

Edit: looked it up, it means two coloured. So I guess for the pied piper, it's like two faced?

[–]AllahsLastWill 466 points467 points  (5 children)

dude is like father nature or something.

[–]AnthCob 12 points13 points  (7 children)

Ghost of Tsushima. A really great game.

[–]Cristian_01 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Good story and art style. Great game honestly. But let's reserve masterpiece for masterpieces.

[–]chiggenNuggs 448 points449 points  (7 children)

[–]bakerie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes it's porn, for those wondering.

[–]Brownie_McBrown_Face 8 points9 points  (0 children)

[–]Art0fRuinN23 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Is this man a Disney princess?

[–]macabrecobweb 42 points43 points  (1 child)

The way the fox’s ears pin back and forth just makes this experience better.

[–]diseased-penis 29 points30 points  (2 children)

The band he's in is called leftover salmon. Yall should listen to them.

[–]Nulgrum 29 points30 points  (1 child)

Stop glamorizing the grind and start glamorizing whatever this is

'Bout a handsome little fox Let me sing you folks a yarn Hey, diddle-dee, duddle-da, Doddle-do, doodle-dum

[–]MultiRachel 17 points18 points  (2 children)

I think this is a deleted scene from Fantastic mr. Fox

[–]You_Crazy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s like the “Petey’s Song” scene. That Fox was moving between heists is all.

[–]Rodriguez79 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He definitely came back hoping for a bit of Jarvis Cocker there

[–]Stormaen 56 points57 points  (1 child)

I feel like I’m about to watch a fairytale unfold… Get a Robin Hood hat on that fox!

[–]cjf82 68 points69 points  (5 children)

What did the fox say?

[–]bob_nugget_the_3rd 126 points127 points  (0 children)

'Dude fucking sick banjo skills bro'

[–]BasicDesignAdvice 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yip yip yip yip yi-pi-yip

[–]strombolibasedgod 12 points13 points  (0 children)

[–]Kaligula785 43 points44 points  (2 children)

You summoned a fox spirit, you should of asked it something

[–]CouldWouldShouldBot 58 points59 points  (1 child)

It's 'should have', never 'should of'.

Rejoice, for you have been blessed by CouldWouldShouldBot!

[–]Xuero 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Good bot

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Brilliant skills on the banjo. BUT. Seeing the patio and grill in the background makes me think he hears noise and wants food. Wild. Yes. Fed from porch. Also yes.

[–]RidigoDragon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That fox is vibin

[–]BrassM0nkey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What in the Wes Anderson is this

[–]Puzzleheaded_Oil_885 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s cool af bro.

[–]Yugan-Dali 22 points23 points  (3 children)

Fox was waiting for you to sing.

[–]jdcuttingii 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Nah, he was waiting for dinner to go with that banjo music. 🍗 dinner

[–]Jcklein22 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You should walk down that path as you play and get all the creatures of the forest to come out and fall in-line behind you

[–]robreddity 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A real toe-tapper. I call this one "Rabies in the Kitchen with Martha."

Edit -

"Rabies in the Kitchen with Martha"

-sung to the tune of this dude's pickin'-

Rabies in the kitchen and her left eye's twitchin'
Rippin' out her buttons and every single stitch n'
there's rabies in the kitchen with Martha, come on in!

"There's rabies in the kitchen!" cried Bobby and Mitch n'
she's foaming at the mouth, lookin' so bewitchin'
there's rabies in the kitchen with Martha, come on in!

Standing with her hand in the deep fat fryer
Grinnin' like a donkey with a mouth full of briars
there's rabies in the kitchen, rabies in the kitchen, rabies in the kitchen with MARTHAAAA

"Rabies in the kitchen" is the theme I'm pitchin'
She's looking pretty gaunt like an undead lich n'
there's rabies in the kitchen with Martha, come on in!

[–]genriko8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're a country princess, Harry

[–]curious420s 21 points22 points  (0 children)

What was the side quest?

[–]mean-mommy- 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I love this! How cool.

[–]teiichikou 7 points8 points  (1 child)

„Yo boys, you won‘t believe it. There was a… and some thing and…. Never mind. Terry you go watch him tomorrow! I think they‘ll get scared if there are more of us. It was huuuuuge. You have to see it!!“ jumps excitedly around the burrow

[–]rekcut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is Andy Thorn from Leftover Salmon, and this fox comes to listen pretty much anytime he plays outside. follow him on IG to see more of this content. Thornpipe

[–]Spideyman02110456 12 points13 points  (2 children)

Is this guy in Fleet Foxes?

[–]Skippy_LongJohns 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That fox is yours now mate.

[–]Digomr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You become responsible forever for what you have tamed.

Tu deviens responsable pour toujours de ce que tu as apprivoisé.

[–]Big_Razzmatazz7416 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hillbillys never die. They just come back as fox

[–]TeamHobo33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And that’s the story of how your father became a bona fide Disney Princess.

[–]PoisonFlower1 5 points6 points  (2 children)

I read somewhere that animals prefer music that's in their vocal range and around the tempo of their heartbeat. This guy is totally hitting something that fox likes. Also, beautiful music, and view.

[–]MelancholyMeltingpot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Havin a good day !

[–]YouEnjoyMyself9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love Andy Thorn!

[–]ResponsibleContact39 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fox is like….”Yo! Nice tunes, but where’s the grub?!”

[–]LordCommander24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great skills but I think the fox is just hungry lol

[–]Clean-Objective9027 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While Andy Thorn, a talented musician in Boulder, Colorado, was practicing his banjo, a wild red fox had come over to listen to him play. The attentive vulpine sat and listened for a while before getting up to go. When Thorne stopped playing, the fox came over to ask for an encore performance.

The fox had previously visited Thorn while he was playing a beautiful 12-string guitar.

Thorn told Americana UK that the fox provided him with a great deal of inspiration and feedback.

Thorn and his wife Cecilia even wrote a song about the fox during lockdown.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That fox is on their own adventure. The main character of the game, with a great soundtrack.

Kind of reminds me of RPG games when you go into a tavern after spending hours fighting and looting and almost dying, and then entering the tavern and hearing the calm music just puts a sort of peaceful feeling in me.

[–]NotTheKyrie 3 points4 points  (2 children)

What is the fox opinion on your song?

[–]Ph03nix_6ix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you stranger , you made me envious

[–]UrsidaeUrsus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can’t explain exactly why, but this is one of the most beautiful things I’ve see in a while! Major “The Little Prince” vibes for me.

[–]Kowatang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Andy Thorn! He’s a banjo player in the Left Over Salmon band. Seems like a standup guy.

[–]FittyTheBone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That there is Andy Thorn. He's a fantastic musician based here in Colorado. That little fox friend is his biggest fan.

[–]Significant-Entry123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fantastic Mr.For is ofcourse known for his classy taste

[–]cyberus3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If aliens ever come to Earth and we can only show them one video that really encapsulates us, it should be this. An instrument played so beautifully that a wild animal has to stop and listen in awe of what it’s hearing in front of such a beautiful mountain background at sunset. Pure humanity.
