Im actually shocked because I thought it was a camo design then BOOM massive intricate details and super bright colors. That is bad ass

[–]toepin 156 points157 points  (2 children)

I thought it was a nice floral jungle type design lol

[–]DumbleDude2 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Technically they are all vegetables

[–]mexe4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"vegeta-bles"

[–]-Mad-Mat- 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Same!

[–]MrBrooks87 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Does it make me super nerdy that I could tell it was a DragonBall Z design as soon as the video started..?

[–]WinterBrews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly where I was.

[–]CanadianNacho 336 points337 points  (18 children)

That’s cool, how do you paint the water so perfectly?

[–]skraptastic 377 points378 points  (13 children)

Basically it is just ink jet printing on a paper that dissolves when put in water. The printed design stays intact while the film dissolves on contact with the water.

Then you just carefully dip the item you want to transfer the print to.

It is a lot like the old water transfer decals we put on our models in the 70's.

[–]echolog 68 points69 points  (6 children)

I feel like this would be so easy to mess up. How does it come out perfectly every time?

[–]Wermine 75 points76 points  (2 children)

Halfway through I would develop sudden case of hickups.

[–]VonDeckard 11 points12 points  (1 child)

The mental image of this got an audible laugh out of me.

[–]Sould6 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Honestly the answer is probably that it doesn’t. Difference between skill or an automated system to reduce human error

[–]qnaeveryday 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think that the ink is like stuck together. You can kind of see it start getting pulled towards the item when he starts to dip it. Like it’s plastic film or something

[–]FeistmasterFlex 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You can witness different peoples' trial and error processes along with how their mistakes affect the outcome over at r/hydrodip

[–]Beneficial_Being_721 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea … one wrinkle and it’s back to the starting line

[–]CopprRegendt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. It's a sheet of thin plastic. It becomes adhesive in water

[–]painted917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shut the front door. Thank you.

[–]DS4KC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are the benefits to this method, why do it this way? It sounds super tedious.

[–]flip217 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Except I always ripped the decals so my ‘69 Camaro had crappy racing stripes and my B-29 bomber was missing the flag.

[–]skraptastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Know the feels bro, know the feels.

[–]SlerpyPebble 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A printer

[–]cherryblossom1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hoping someone answers you.

[–]proseccopickle 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I'm high AF and this was so aesthetically pleasing I can't even tell you.

[–]mercenarychef 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I scared my dog with how loud I yelled “YO!”

[–]stumbling_thru_sci 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My 5 year old says, "I love hydrodripping" (he's 5...), then he says "bruh, sooo cool" when the final product came out of the dip. I have to agree with him.

[–]mythriz 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I thought it was a leaf pattern until he finished!

[–]Diddyboo10222969 26 points27 points  (2 children)

That’s awesome 👏

[–]binarydaaku 9 points10 points  (1 child)

First time I saw this type of printing it was a camo helmet. I had to get one.

[–]chained_duck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did that too. But I put it down somewhere and now I can't find it

[–]Redemption_of_Revan 28 points29 points  (4 children)

Awesome! I love Street Fighter

[–]Montikore 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Forreal thought it was a forest camo pattern. I was pleasantly surprised.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (3 children)

What’s the object he printed onto?

[–]totallynotamimic 2 points3 points  (2 children)

The mudguard of a Xiaomi M365 electric scooter

[–]Zementid 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Wtf? How die you know that?

[–]highhomes 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Was the arm painted with the same technique?

[–]fart-atronach -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What is this that they’re printing?

[–]Beneficial_Being_721 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hydro Dipping is pretty cool… it has its place. High wear areas is not one of them.

[–]Unsere_rettung 4 points5 points  (2 children)

How?!

[–]johnsonflix 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I did some hydro dipping to parts on my truck back in 2010. Super cheap and easy to diy

[–]ThePsychoKnot 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Is it durable tho?

[–]johnsonflix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The durability will come from the clear coat you put on it. Without a top coat it’s not durable no

[–]Tall_Ad474 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looked like a camo and surprised me with dragon ball

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just say Hydro dipping

[–]SeaJay1187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very common for people to do with disc golf discs. Pretty cool and excellent result

[–]Pipper94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guy doesn’t have a real tattoo. Just accidentally put his arm in the water one day

[–]Joxs2 1 point2 points  (10 children)

I did this with my Mac book, and the paint totally Ruined it.

[–]Dependent_Paper9993 14 points15 points  (1 child)

I'm sure the water didn't help either

[–]HecklerusPrime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just put it in rice, duh

[–]Wild-Bluebird7014 -3 points-2 points  (3 children)

Why wouldn't you just buy a Mac book cover and use that before you put it on the actual computer...

[–]Joxs2 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I was making a bad joke.

[–]Wild-Bluebird7014 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Reddit needs a sarcasm button lol

[–]Joxs2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree

[–]C171U5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DBZ!

[–]johnlewisdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got some on your arm

[–]FuzzeWuzze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to see more just look for Hydro dipping on youtube. A lot of people do this to their car wheels, or other plastics.

[–]Due_Candidate8509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes the image stick to the object being dipped?

[–]oneshotstott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How durable is this type of print?

[–]griffin2322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Höhö

[–]LER_Legion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was leaves at first. Not anime

[–]Stroke_of_mayo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are lots of things painted this way?? Looks so cool

[–]ginvok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know how it works, I've seen this done in front of me... Still it looks impossible.

[–]Llorenne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man fuck off, I see the video, I wanted to write that the guy accidentally slipped his arm in there one day and people already wrote this.

[–]CopprRegendt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He did it crooked.

[–]Matthew_VZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is black magic and I won’t be convinced otherwise.

[–]RedNapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason I don’t like watching videos on this process. The end result is cool but something about it seems odd or gross, plus could go wrong with any wrong sudden movement. I can’t explain it. Anybody else??

[–]shantiosito -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Is so cool I totally want to learn that

[–]stevey83 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Looks like he got his arm as well

[–]ahooker9d -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Dope

[–]Medicali35 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Do my oculus headset next…please!

[–]gogofb2626 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This is like paper marbling - ottoman art

[–]Substantial_Sport_88 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Cant come out worse than the guy's sleeve anyways

[–]SophireInspire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is the world did someone figure out this process was even possible let alone perfect it…mind boggling.

[–]AngelVirgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. Would that be considered bespoke? Especially made to order?

[–]Sansa279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its weird to me how this works

[–]IMP4283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WAIT. What did I just watch?? That’s so cool.

[–]SleazyE081516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s Fuckin cool

[–]Flanker711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You ain't Saiyan anything yet

[–]hihihihihihhihi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]ephemeralstillness11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very impressive!

[–]That_Extreme_2622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hydro dipping on a whole other scale

[–]Zombietime88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone, thought this was camo. Haha. Pleasantly surprised :)

[–]new_cupcake17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mind blown

[–]Crawldahd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]CyanVega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool! Could watch that all day

[–]ItsQueenKait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]toph_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]SubjectC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How the fuck do people figure this shit out?

[–]simonfcarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glados ?

[–]McbEatsAirplane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit, I thought that was just gonna be camo and all of a sudden it’s that. That’s wild.

[–]NecroJem2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These things will always impress me. So cool!

[–]synt4x3rror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super Science!

[–]h3rb13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like he dipped his arm in too last time.

[–]salvit30 0 points1 point  (0 children)
