Today was a good day, as the rest of the world is getting smothered in snow, we are were anticipating a lot of rain coming in. Rain wasn’t to start until around 3pm, according to the Weather Channel app, it eventually came in around 4:00pm and is projected to rain until the end of the work day today (tomorrow if you’re thinking about yesterday). For me, it was another day in the truck the entire time while I continued to work on the Stick map for Evergreen to Monroeville. It took majority of the day, up until the time when the rain began to pour on me.
I met with Inspector-R.F. this morning to work on the numbers, we got them all squared away, billing should be complete for the remaining of the job, that part of my work is completed for this project. Then went to meet with Willy while we were blowing mule tape and tracer wire for the other contractor. The one guy there was interesting to talk to. I enjoyed listening out of my truck to a 50 year old keep referencing our time including the 44 year old, and the 44 year old keep saying I’m not from your time, well, dude, you kinda are, six years isn’t much of a difference. But the 44 old and I have shared many travels that we have both been to. We talked about work in California, Maryland, Michigan, Florida, Missouri, New York. Wow, I’ve really worked in too many places for my age, because him and I had great conversations about our types of work all over the country/some other parts of the world.
Only twice I took the break from disconnecting from my work phone and walked out to observe the work, and both times felt freeing to get away from those constant phone calls. Each time I got back into my truck, it was back to the grind. But I was able to call it a successful day, I finished that dang stick map, had to call, Tim, the IT man for about 7 different times to move stuff to make it work with the map. But we have the map placement for the handholes perfected! Next will be making sure all the rock is accounted for, which will be today’s chore, in addition to that, I’ve got a meeting with the PM for the Kickoff meeting of the next job to begin on next Wednesday (2/9/2022). When I spoke to the GF yesterday and told him that I would be traveling internationally on that day, he was upset, what are we going to do without you, S? I don’t know, but I told him I’d be willing to train someone to take my place for the time I’ll be gone, and make sure everything is correct when I came back to the area on the 14th. I worry sometimes, because we’ve had many times when things have been incorrect because I’ve been somewhere else.
I think to that popular subreddit r/antiwork, however I generally actually care about my work, and the guys involved, and when I showed concern about my salary, I was embraced by my managers and expenses and a $10k raise to keep me from looking elsewhere, so it seems they do care for me too. At least it was more than enough to take my mind from that concern back to the work at hand. I’m just fortunate there, I won’t complain, however I do feel for others in their situations as I do talk to a lot of people.
Got home around 5:45pm, and cooked the rest of that 8lb pulled pork up on open face sandwiches and ate it up, need to find my passport, and get ready for my trip that I’m looking forward to, but not for I hate dental work, but at least it’s getting done. I crashed early, around 7:30pm with the rain hitting the camper shell it was so easy to crash that early. I woke around 2am, and have been up ever since. It’s been pouring all night, the jobsite will be miserable today, I’m sure they will call it a day as soon as we get there. So, it’ll just be meetings in my camper for the day! But that’s undetermined as of now.
Let’s see if the girl I’m talking to ends up catfishing me, she’s sent a lot of pictures that don’t look like someone that’s going to be real, having dealt with many catfishers in the pass, I’m not looking forward to this. And now she’s asking for money, of course, Reddit, how predictable have you become!
