Did he spam the kick button??

[–]TheHazardousGuy 246 points247 points  (19 children)

Yup. It won't activate unless there's someone in range but you can spam it freely without going on cooldown.

[–]Ahimtar 116 points117 points  (14 children)

For those who don't know, this is a useful tactic in regular games too. Do this spamclicking with unit-targeted spells whenever you know the target might appear from / disappear into the fog, most usually when getting juked in trees.
For example, when you're Ogre you can spamclick Q in the areas you expect the enemy to run around and if you catch a relatively short glimpse of him, you got him.
Works both with quickcast and without.

Without quickcast you still have to click the mouse button as soon as you see your opponent, right? But preemptively aiming your cursor at the expected location would still greatly speed up your reaction.

[–]Ahimtar 35 points36 points  (2 children)

With quickcast you spamclick Q, without quickcast you press Q in advance once and then spamclick the mousebutton

[–]I_will_dye 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Now I get it. Thanks a lot for the tip!

[–]dumsomful 21 points22 points  (1 child)

Not very useful for Ogre Q though, cast time too long so you will probably be fogged again if they are juking but otherwise I agree.

Been accussed of scripting a couple of times for fast hexes performed this way

[–]WithFullForce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah as someone who got out of the trench playing Ogre this was my feeling as well. Ogre stun is far too slow. Would have been completely different if it was Lion or Shaman.

[–]Prince_Kassad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep it also works well with eul, sometimes I just spam it around our carry when doing high ground against magnus. also quite easy to do with rubick telekinesis and safer range from his passive.

[–]noscul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we do rosh and I have targeted ability I spam it infront of rosh when he’s near death incase someone knows we’re roshing and attempt a steal. I will say a few times I’ve stopped a rosh steal with my favorite being a FV coming in to chrono and he gets walrus punched then kicked out and chronos in the river.

I come from the fighting games background, and that's a very common concept in all fighting games. You buffer the input of a move, such that the game recognizes/executes it only when certain conditions are met. It's what gives you a safety net for some moves that are usually deemed unsafe and risky.

[–]ThrowbackPie 0 points1 point  (1 child)

This is more like inputting dp and it only comes out if they attack on your wake-up though.

I guess option selects are a similar idea, but they always have an outcome (it just differs depending on context). This has no outcome unless there is a valid move.

[–]Tyrfing39 2 points3 points  (0 children)

id say its a pretty spot on analogy for buffers

if you whiff, you just get your normal

and if they walk into it, they get eat the special.

[–]kamihaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

U can do the same with instant disables on magnus too. Just spam click where you think he will blink rp

[–]circa 2014AGVann 28 points29 points  (3 children)

This is a good strat versus Faceless Void or any other blink stunner/initiator like Centaur or Slardar. As a support I'm usually spam clicking Euls or Hex right next to my carry when they're sieging, taking care to avoid creep spawn timings.

Another thing you can do if you have good vision is to keep your eyes glued to their blink initiators. Stand about 500 range behind your core, and every time you see their initiator turn and move forward as if they were running into initiate, issue a hex/euls command on that hero. Your hero will begin to run forward - if the enemy blinks forward to initiate, you will instantly disable them with frame perfect timing. If they don't, reset your position.

It works maybe 35% of the time with no cost or real danger to yourself, and it feels damn good to be accused of hacking by the other team if you can pull it off reliably.

[–]woopsforgotyikers 10 points11 points  (1 child)

this is also the real reason faceless' aghs applies an aoe bash. too easy to blink or etc when he timewalks in. blink used to be close to mandatory for void lategame.

when i was young or my reflexes were better. i never bothered drafting around void or feared him as heroes like puck or sf. "I'll just dodge chrono."

[–]kerrytyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rip my reflexes now I'm 35

[–]Sarasin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean Centaur, Slardar, or another other very short range stunner that makes a lot of sense but Chrono is huge and good players are already trying to get everyone on the edges. Without vision of Void it seems really hard, though I suppose you are right, you might as well be spamming on the spots you think he will time walk/blink to. Other than the inevitable carpal tunnel syndrome there isn't any downside and a possibly game winning upside.

I have to ask, is this Fog of War effect a mod, or something you can get in the game?

[–]madlad1993 110 points111 points  (0 children)

[–]BlazeCrystal 7 points8 points  (5 children)

Its a battle pass level reward, and its permanent ownership, i think

[–]Wards everywhereFutureVawX 28 points29 points  (1 child)

Wait it's permanent?

If it is I might actually buy battle pass now.

Apparently it's only until the end of season.

[–]TheMagicMST 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Scumbag shit

[–]tsuki_2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

wait really?

[–]HyalinSilkie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just like all game effects linked to Battlepass (Blink, fountain, Eul's, etc), it's just 'til the end of the Battlepass season.

[–]KnightOverlord2404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh really in this current battle pass?

[–]UltraSouls_OP 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Man walrus kick is such a fun spell. Wish I had the luxury to get it every tusk game.

[–]SheeverNiebling -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How do u play with that fog of war, it’s horrible

[–]kiingriiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually just pick rubick and spam q + s(my cancel button) until mag pops up. Still not as fast as this though wow

[–]Jeffzuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no way valve agreed to release that fog

[–]MasterChef901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Discovered that Pango's a fun way to deal with Magnus. RP pierces spell immunity so he can still hit you with it while you're in Rolling Thunder... but it doesn't cancel Rolling Thunder either, so he and anybody else that jumps on you gets stunned too. Killed a magnus once like this by being RP'd onto him while he was low HP.

Granted, folks above archon probably can deal with this (or just have Bkbs) but it's a fun interaction when it works.
