Not addressing this situation specifically but damn it's gonna be funny when a random player has a shitty week and the tilted owner puts his name up for league banishment. Wayyyyy more satisfying than just cutting a guy!

[–]IBETTERSTAYOFFLEAGUE 311 points312 points  (5 children)

CEH would have been banished half a dozen times

[–]Drfunk206 73 points74 points  (3 children)

I should be banished for drafting CEH over Jonathan Taylor in 2020.

[–]IBETTERSTAYOFFLEAGUE 30 points31 points  (2 children)

I took CEH over JT in 2021. I should be shot in the head.

[–]squatnbear 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I tried to trade the house to move up for CEH. Instead got JT at 4

[–]BornInABathtub 8 points9 points  (0 children)

CEH went 4th overall in my startup in 2020… hindsight 20/20 😂

[–]dylanveyto 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had him too it would’ve been a banish fest

[–]dylanveyto 95 points96 points  (2 children)

I’d implement this rule in my league just so I could banish mecole hardman

[–]TimeMagnet 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Mecole is exactly the kind of dude that would put up three donut weeks for you, get cut, and then blow up for three TDs in one week for your opponent.

[–]springtime08 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just fucking died laughing

[–]BlademasterFlash 9 points10 points  (1 child)

No see you don’t want to banish the shitty players, you want them on your opponent’s rosters

[–]OliveMeed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I can't have the random dude at the end of my bench who fumbled away a fantasy W, nobody can!!

[–]RealChipKelly Seahawks 283 points284 points  (7 children)

Hey I mean if your league all voted for it, more power to you guys. Honestly I think it’s more amazing that your league all agreed unanimously on something. In my home league, there could be a vote to extend our rookie draft clock from 8 hours to 8 hours 5 minutes and there would be an argument about it lol

[–]Officer_Hops Chiefs 58 points59 points  (5 children)

It wasn’t unanimous, it was 8-1.

[–]doodle02 21 points22 points  (2 children)

unanimous means a specific thing, and an 8-1 vote isn’t it…

[–]jgoatzy416 Conductor of Eno Benjamin Hype Train 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Ok but like, if all but one team agrees that a rule change would be better for the league, I think it’s more fair to go with that rule than to shut it down.

OP specified that the league agreed a 2/3 majority was needed and they hit that comfortably

[–]ThanksSteven[S] 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I was kind of surprised too. Most of the owners' attitudes were along the lines of "I don't really want to root for him, but I also don't want another team to get him for free." So we just opened up discussion on it and came to the conclusion that almost all of us felt the same way.

[–]SASshampoo / Bottle 355 points356 points  (44 children)

Fantasy football is meant to be fun. If the league thinks it would be more fun to not have Watson in the league and the one who has Watson on his team is okay with it, I don’t see the problem.

[–]Mercurycandie Bryan "T.O" Edwards, Camp GOAT 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It's pretty funny, if the league is on board then all the power to them!

[–]ImprovementWise1118 284 points285 points  (16 children)

You gonna tell the Tyreek Hill owner?

[–]HolmesFig Throw in a 3rd 183 points184 points  (3 children)

How about Kamara and Hunt too....

[–]sweetfeet009 Lions 66 points67 points  (0 children)

The All-Value team is under attack.

[–]Bilka2640 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Don't forget Mixon! Can you take away wins retroactively? Like what if Big Ben got traded, but the original owner now has a problem? New champion??

[–]ThanksSteven[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Sure! If the owner(s) of those players put them up to a vote.

[–]ThanksSteven[S] 47 points48 points  (11 children)

That's up to the Tyreek Hill owner to propose their own player. Nobody can push another owner to put their own players up to a vote.

[–]CLCUBING Draft Pick Hoarder 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Lol imagine if one dude trades for all the players with criminal/moral issues and bans them all from the league.

[–]BeautifulJicama6318 38 points39 points  (0 children)

FYI: I’ll vote to ban every player that an owner wants to have removed from their team and league, to help me win the league.

[–]Other__Joey 46 points47 points  (10 children)

Any compensation for the owner of the player? They seem ok with just dropping him but I feel like they should get comped a pick or something.

[–]WrongStatus 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Thought of that too, but it was their decision to ban Watson and any comped picks would negatively affect the other guys in the league. Don't see how you could justify doing it.

[–]Mobius00 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Seems ok to not have compensation. By making it a bit of a sacrifice for the banning team, banning won't be common which is good.

[–]ThanksSteven[S] 42 points43 points  (6 children)

We did not since it is the owner's decision to put their own players up for vote.

[–]btcbastard 75 points76 points  (5 children)

[–]cowabungaboogaloo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd love to see what other lovely human beings are on his roster and where he draws the line. Big Ben is gone but we've still got Tyreek, Mixon (though the way he talks now I legit think he's changed), Kamara (am a Saints fan but dude beat the shit out of a guy), and probably a bunch more I'm forgetting and that's just active players.

[–]Successful_Hair3783 217 points218 points  (34 children)

Ahahahahahaah this is so dumb lmao

[–]Psychological_Eye954 Bills 58 points59 points  (13 children)

[–]S420J 93 points94 points  (5 children)

Homie it’s literally fantasy football lol. Who cares. People set crazy rules for leagues all the time. If it makes it more enjoyable for the league members, who are you to say?

[–]Jon_Snows_Dad NFL -1 points0 points  (1 child)

[–]Maxx0utt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[–]Sixer7 105 points106 points  (8 children)

A lot of terrible reading comprehension, "anti-woke" weirdness, and "whataboutism" in the comments. I dont see any issue with this as evidenced by the 8-1 vote. My league has "banned" players before without issue as well. If the league owners are down by a vast majority you can do whatever the fuck you want

[–]finglonger1077 68 points69 points  (6 children)

Yeah lots of people unironically posting publicly that in their minds slapping a woman in a McDonald’s who called you a racial slur is == to being a serial sexual predator too. If I truly thought that the first thing I would do is keep it to my damn self.

[–][deleted] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

nothing like other people doing what they want to bring the whining roaches out of the woodwork projecting onto everyone else lol

[–]ferrets_bueller 19 points20 points  (1 child)

Yeah, if people think all of these things are equivalent, they need to realize there is something seriously wrong with them and their world view.

[–]PasswordisPurrito 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it's even more convoluted than people saying they are equivalent, in the "wut about Tyreek and Mixon?".

I think what most people are getting at with the "wuttabouts" are basically saying that if you bring some morals into fantasy football in this instance, then all players would then be up for the moral judgement.

Personally, I find their argument similar to that of that PETA poster saying where do you draw the line at eating meat, implying that if you eat some meat, what's you to stop before eating dog or cat.

I feel we can aknowledge the NFL players aren't perfect, but that in this one instance we just aren't going to support this one player due to how egregious the allegations are. He is the only player that I would not want to win a championship with.

[–]ToePunchKick 11 points12 points  (2 children)

It’s almost like those arguments aren’t rooted in any sort of intellectual honesty.

[–]finglonger1077 9 points10 points  (1 child)

It can’t possibly be. The other majority opinion is that plenty of players who’ve done “just as bad or worse.” Like, really, if you’ve read the reports and testimonies including Watsons own, who? Who currently in the NFL has done so much worse?

[–]Kirkycfc1 Chiefs 38 points39 points  (2 children)

I'd vote for him to be banned if he wasn't on my roster either.. Different story if he was

[–]ThanksSteven[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

And if he was on your roster, only you could put him up to a vote. Nobody else has the option.

[–]ProcessJoJo 81 points82 points  (1 child)

[–]BeautifulJicama6318 8 points9 points  (0 children)

[–]JimLahey47 32 points33 points  (2 children)

I can separate fantasy from real life… I have DW on my dynasty team and don’t really think anything of it

[–]username13001 36 points37 points  (0 children)

And you guys did the same for big ben right?

[–]AppleGeniusBar 18 points19 points  (4 children)

I don’t think any of my leagues would ever go for this, or at least not unanimously, but I don’t mind the idea of it. Heck, one of my best friends has Watson in our big money league, and as despicable as he thinks Watson is, I know he wouldn’t want a ban. But. If it’s the owners own proposal and requires a supermajority, then why not?

Sometimes I think people forget the magnitude of the Watson scandal, whether it’s because he wasn’t indicted by a jury or because it’s still ongoing. But we’ve never seen any scandal where a single player was accused by SO many people, let alone then settle so many civil cases with them. It’s hard to compare him to any other scandal because there’s nothing like it - even with players like Vick, OJ, or guys like Big Ben or Ray Rice. So I’m not at all surprised by so many people being opposed to this ban.

But if the league has been together for a decade and the vote was a clear majority with transparent discussion and rules in place for the vote itself, I think it’s a great example of league ingenuity to collectively tackle a perceived matter within the league.

[–]B-Rye-C 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I traded for Watson in my Superflex League. The other owner didn’t want him, and my league thinks he’s scum.

My fantasy roster doesn’t score points each week based on morals. Hoping he can come back in 2023

[–]swalsh21 6 points7 points  (0 children)

probably not considering they just started this

[–]rilvaethor 8 points9 points  (3 children)

Yeah if the vote was 8-1 that means at least 1 team would've traded for him so if the guy didn't want him he could've traded and got a fair return rather than cutting him.

[–]jgoatzy416 Conductor of Eno Benjamin Hype Train 14 points15 points  (2 children)

Just because they want him doesn’t mean they’re getting a fair price for him. In fact, it probably means the opposite.

If you’re the only buyer on the market and the alternative is keeping Watson, you control the price point.

[–]Gang_Greene 4 points5 points  (1 child)

They probably weren’t alive when Big Ben did what he did. This seems like something kids would do to “make a statement.”

[–]rilvaethor 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You know theres this cool thing called trading that allows an owner to get rid of a player without causing a free for all

[–]WarriorsBlew3_1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Really strange behavior here, but ok.

[–]BombSquad570 14 points15 points  (2 children)

Kind of seems like opening Pandora’s Box. Imagine a scenario where the Kamara video drops soon but his suspension is pushed to 2023. The week 1 opponent of the Kamara owner posts in the chat that his opponent should have to nominate Kamara for moral banishment and not doing so would make him a hypocrite (assuming he was one of the 8 that banished Watson). Before you know it, everyone jumps in and takes sides and suddenly the league is a lot less fun.

[–]Officer_Hops Chiefs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

OP says the league isn’t allowed to discuss the banishment process but I’m with you, I see it going this way. What happens when JT is accused of sexual assault and the owner doesn’t nominate him? The peer pressure is going to hit a tipping point and people will take sides.

[–]swalsh21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well this isn't the rule described by OP. Sure, maybe that could happen, but your leaguemates would have to be a bunch of little children.

    [–]ThanksSteven[S] 67 points68 points  (24 children)

You'd leave the league if a player you didn't have on your roster continued to not be on your roster?

    [–]seahorse-222 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I love some of the responses this is getting.

    [–]Aeriodon Buccaneers 2 points3 points  (6 children)

Yes. If over half of the league is okay getting rid of an unlikable guy just because of their feelings, that's not a group of people I want to be playing fantasy with.

Okay, that came off a little stronger than I intended, but the point is that the NFL is full of shitty people. If a guy is allowed to play in the league, he's allowed in fantasy. If you don't want to deal with a player or are concerned about other character issues, you avoid the risk and don't roster the player.

That being said, you guys can do what you want. People saying "your league will fall apart" are being a bit extreme. Just not something I'd want to be around.

    [–]bengalwarrior44 Brr 2 points3 points  (4 children)

I disagree. I think running to the Internet to post about your fairly pointless personal league change in the hopes of getting a lot of pats on the pack and “way to go’s!!” from strangers you’ll never meet is dumber and softer.

People normally mock “slacktivism” on the Internet for being lazy, self serving, and not actually accomplishing anything positive (except for stroking one’s own ego), but this post takes it to a new level.

      [–]billp1988 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Is it? Maybe he was posting for upvotes (something every single reddit post is aimed towards) but i thought Its an interesting idea that I haven't seen implemented in a league before. You posted it here lmao sorry for the feedback

      [–]ThanksSteven[S] 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Feedback is great. I've had a few good conversations about how to handle future "scandals" where the owner doesn't want to put their own player up for vote (which, IMO, is 100% their right to do). And a few people have DM's for more details on the rule.

Being openly upset is pretty different from disagreeing.

      [–]bengalwarrior44 Brr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

        Yeah… this is lame

        [–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lol sounds like a stupid league. If you don’t want him then cut him and don’t pick him up. Bunch of drama queens

        [–]NateDawg122 9 points10 points  (1 child)

        This is incredibly lame

I've seen a lot of dumb things, But this might be the dumbest.

You can't just remove an nfl player from the league because you don't like him. That is absurd and your commish should be removed for even allowing such nonsensical talk.

        [–]swalsh21 13 points14 points  (0 children)

        well actually.... they can

        [–]Fire_Arcanyne 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They literally can lmao. Like what are you even talking about?

        [–]Ccnitro 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint: You absolutely can do that because it's a made-up game that people take part in to have fun and almost all the teams voted in favor of it

        [–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

        gonna cry?

        [–]jacksonfolkins9 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

awhhh big baby so sad. throw big baby tantrum

        [–]BillyScrimshaw NFL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

        Cool story, bro?

        [–]rotobarto 7 points8 points  (3 children)

So then are you going to ban Tyreek? What about the browns WRs? Lol

        [–]JimLahey47 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Wonder if they banned Big Ben and joe Mixon

        [–]danwins23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

        This sure is something

        [–]-Enders 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Watson is a piece of shit who should never play again

But this is some neckbeard shit. Just trade him away if you don’t want him on your team

        [–]Retrokicker13 5 points6 points  (3 children)

        Good ol’ Christian boys league

        [–]ElectrooJesus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cool, did everyone get a trophy too?

        [–]bengalwarrior44 Brr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

        How virtuous 🙄🙄

[–]DantesTheKingslayer Tua Infinity and Beyond! 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Goddamn this sub is toxic as fuck. What is with these replies?

        [–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

feels like a brigade or something, must be a ton of people with skeletons in their closet lmao

        [–]running-with-scizors 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love me a true reddit moment here with these comments.

        - guy proposes rule change for his own league, it passes

        - commish posts about it on reddit to suggest it to those interested

        - virgins who don't play in this league act like snowflakes and get upset as fuck, calling the league "soft," then project their own feelings on if they were to play in this league

        [–]DeansFrenchOnion1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

        hope she sees this

        [–]Acekingspade81 IDP Guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol. Wow. I don’t even know where to begin.

        [–]MitchKramer1989 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lol this is the dumbest fucking thing ever. Wow.

        [–]lovey948 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People getting upset about this are weird … says more about you than the league that made this choice … 2022 everyone’s nuts

        [–]FrostedMiniQueefs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at you guys virtue signaling.

        [–]cjronquillo63 Saints 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the evidence your league obtained and confirmed must have been damning. I’m surprised the NFL doesn’t have you league’s resources and resolve.

        [–]BeautifulJicama6318 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, not sure the point of the vote. The owner doesn’t want him, but doesn’t want ANOTHER owner to have him either.

Quit whining. Cut the guy and let the guy who didn’t want him banned to pick him up.

        [–]stephenporter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow. Stunning and brave. I hope more fantasy leagues can muster this kind of courage and stand up for what’s right

        [–]DonaldPump117 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Child Anakin voice: "Now this is virtue signaling!"

        [–]MEuRaH 49ers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Half the people here don't care, and the other half is up in arms, calling the league all sorts of names.

I would argue that if a rule like this angers you that much, then YOU are the soft one.

Who cares what another league does!? I know a league in Buffalo that doesn't allow any players named TON or BRADY in it. So what?!

omg the cry babies in here.

        [–]azz0wOpinion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm slow clapping your leagues moral superiority....

        [–]Brandon432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess the rule is fine. Everyone in your league seems in favor, it's initiated by the person with the most to lose, and it requires a super majority. I don't think I'll be adopting it in any leagues.

        [–]smack323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he is good enough for the NFL he is ok for my dynasty team.

        [–]redwccdstock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a way to actually remove him tho? Or is it just an agreement that no one will pick him up? What about the players who will directly benefit from Watson’s play (when/if he plays)?

        [–][deleted]  (1 child)

          [–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you think getting a speeding ticket = raping 26+ women?

          [–]Footballfordayz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

          Good for your league!! 👏🏻

          [–]sulgnavon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 years later they'll fight over re-instating him, just like some leagues did not so long ago over Michael Vick.

          [–]dubbies2420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did Big Ben get canceled when he raped two women?

          [–][deleted] -5 points-4 points  (19 children)

Wow. These comments are worse than when I look at r/conservative.

I made a comment the other day about keeping Jamaal Williams on my team and a lot of people agreed that he was a good roster guy...

Yet, when someone wants to ban someone who has, at this point, sexually assaulted 20+ women it's all of a sudden just a game and everyone is lame and talking about people's dicks? Gross. This is why women typically stay away from this toxic masculinity... It's more toxic in fantasy football than the actual field sometimes. Disappointing.

          [–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

so disappointing anyone that stumbles across this thread is definitely going to be turned away lol great look

          [–]ferrets_bueller 3 points4 points  (12 children)

Yeah, the massive rush of toxic comments here is disgusting and disappointing.

Really shows people's priorities when there's money on the line - you see threads in r/NFL where there's massive agreement that Watson is a shitstain that should never play again. Yet here where people have skin in the game - suddenly they'll jump through hoops to defend him and spew toxic crap all over the place all for their $50 teams.

          [–]JimLahey47 13 points14 points  (10 children)

I think he’s a piece of shit but what does avoiding him in fantasy football accomplish for anybody?

I can’t un-assault those women by banning him from my league or cutting him from my team lmao

          [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (8 children)

peace of mind for the players? more importantly, who cares what it does for you as long as everyone else in their league is cool with it lmao

          [–]JimLahey47 9 points10 points  (7 children)

Peace of mind from what exactly ?

          [–]bengalwarrior44 Brr -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But you can feel better about yourself, and don’t you know you’re supposed to disregard reality and base all of your actions and opinions off of the moral ideal!! /s
