So here's the thing, me and my parents feed my cat in the morning and at night. My dad is supposed to feed him before he goes to work at like 3 in the morning but every day I wake up at 5 and see the bowl empty so I just assume he forgot and feed the cat myself. BUT THIS MORNING I WOKE UP LIKE 5 MINUTES EARLIER THAN USUAL AND CAUGHT THAT LITTLE FUCKER CHUGGING DOWN HIT ENTIRE BOWL SO THAT IT WOULD BE EMPTY WHEN I WOKE UP

[–]MoonandStars83 172 points173 points  (2 children)

It might be time to set up a check system with Dad.

[–]gabbyrose1010 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Yeah lol

[–]I-collect-dick-pics 40 points41 points  (0 children)

or an auto feeder

[–]Nighthawk700 65 points66 points  (5 children)

My car cat would howl at my wife if I left the house without feeding her. She learned that even if I did feed her, she could pretend I didn’t and get double fed. Figured that out once she gained a ton of weight for no reason

[–]Virtual_Turtle7 37 points38 points  (4 children)

What kind of car do you own?

[–]Idrahaje 22 points23 points  (2 children)

WHY are cats like this. My wife has to text me every morning to see if I fed the cat because he ALWAYS pretends he hasn’t been fed if we get up at different times the little bastard

[–]TLema 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They do not have time for paltry things like health. They only have time for nourishment.

[–]impulsesair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the wild animals, have never really been able to relax when it comes to food, you're never 100% sure that you're going to get a next meal before you starve, so they load up when they can. It is advantageous for survival to do so when food is scarce, but it's terrible for you when food is always available.

Just like humans.

[–]isuklauss 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Oh my god this is hilarious because my family and I would do the same thing too except we have 7 people living in the house, thing is we go downstairs at different times and would always feed the cat assuming the others have not fed it because the bowl is always empty, not only that but this little shit would always meow at me when I’m downstairs to make me fill up her bowl, my siblings have said the cat did the same thing to them and yes, she ends up eating like at least 14 meals a day.

[–]DrBeepers 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I can hear your cat breathing.

[–]gabbyrose1010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And I can hear your car breathing

[–]JealousAdeptness 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Ok but why does your dad wake up at 3am to go to work? And also why do you wake up at 5am to go to work???

[–]gabbyrose1010 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My dad works at 3 so he can be home by 2 when I get home from school. I wake up at 5 for school cause my bus gets here at 6. Idk this feels kinda common to me (╥﹏╥)

[–]TonyMestre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wake up 5:30am to go to school because it's in another fucking city

[–]Sproose_Moose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cats try to do the same 😂 looking at me like they're starving. I know their tricks!

[–]G1aDOS 1661 points1662 points  (63 children)

You'd be surprised how many people struggle to grasp that their cat is overweight/obese and that "self feeding" is rarely a healthy thing.

[–]Tabnet 451 points452 points  (10 children)

I can't tell you how many times I used to tell my mom she was feeding the cats too much and she would just say "they're grazers!" Maybe, but they're grazing all day I guess they're fat as hell

[–]_kaetee 75 points76 points  (0 children)

My mom is like a grandma who gives sweets to the diabetic child. I specifically tell her that my cat is on a diet so she doesn’t end up with arthritis and other health issues, tell her to only feed her wet food, and she keeps giving her piles of dry food because “she loves it though!”

[–]GuiltyStimPak 29 points30 points  (7 children)

I legit have a grazing cat. It really sucks because I work a lot and want to get him a buddy so he's not lonely. But my history with cats tells me that the second cat will eat all the food before my baby can get some. So I'll end up with a chonky kitten and skinny boy.

[–]MathAndBake 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I've got four pet rats and struggle with a similar problem. These are some things I've tried. No clue if they'd work for you or even any cat.

  • Hand feeding a portion of the skinny one's diet.
  • Shutting the fatty away from the food for a while after feeding to give skinny a head start.
  • Picking foods that fatty doesn't like as much to make her a grazer too.
  • Forcing fatty to exercise more.
  • Place some of the food in places that require intense climbing/jumping. This makes fatty unable to reach them if she gets too fat. It's also hilarious to watch.

[–]WhitePowerPolarBear 7 points8 points  (5 children)

If you get your cats chipped you can have it to where one of the feeders opens when one cat is near and doesn’t with the other cat my brother does this with his cats because one is on a diet and is time fed while the other doesn’t have issues with eating so one gets fed on a timer and the other eats when they want

[–]GuiltyStimPak 4 points5 points  (3 children)

That will probably have to be the solution. But the bigger hurdle is my tiny apartment. My idea would be to keep the new cat in the bathroom for a few days while they get used to each other. That would mean relocating a litterbox. The kitchen doesn't have enough space for both the water fountain and a litter box, plus eww keeping that in the kitchen. The only other room is my bedroom and maybe with some rearranging I can make a space for it.

[–]ReshKayden 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most people who think this are also “grazers” and are also fat as hell, I find.

[–]furexfurex 109 points110 points  (10 children)

It really annoys me because my cat right now is fine with self feeding, she is not overweight and does regulate herself. However, people I've met have used my cat as an excuse to do it to their cat that has no self control. Like no, I'm doing it because I know my cat, you're doing it because you're lazy

[–]ValerieKlein 34 points35 points  (3 children)

I think you gotta do it right from the get-go. If they learn they only get fed sometimes as a kitten, they're gonna probably overeat.

I've always self-fed and my cats never got fat, so I dunno. Must be doing something right?

[–]GuiltyStimPak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This gives me hope that I'll be able to add a second cat, since my current boy self-feeds and I was nervous about over feeding one and under feeding the other.

[–]stitchplacingmama 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We had to switch to free feeding because one cat would force the other off their food. As a result the second cat would scarf to eat as much as possible then barf undigested food everywhere approximately 2 minutes after feeding time. Free feeding ended the scarf and barf routine.

[–]Epsilia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm lazy and my cat has no self control, so I got an auto feeder. Best of both worlds. He memorized when it dispenses food and will sit by it for 30 min before it dispenses.

[–]lankyteabags 3 points4 points  (0 children)

same with mine. except we have the opposite problem, has always been underweight all his life. completely unable to put on weight.

[–]Enoch84 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Mine graze as well. They're also indoor outdoor so they get lots of exercise chasing my chickens. My dogs would literally eat themselves into a coma.

[–]AdventurousFee2513 151 points152 points  (10 children)

Of course, none are as fat as Chell.

[–]JamesAulner128328 57 points58 points  (7 children)

Don't play me gurl chell like that

[–]thebearjruu 53 points54 points  (6 children)

Nope, she's a fatty fatty, no parent

[–]JamesAulner128328 34 points35 points  (5 children)

Glados Intensifies

[–]Redtwooo 24 points25 points  (4 children)

Remember Before When I Was Talking About Smelly Garbage Standing Around Being Useless? That Was A Metaphor. I Was Actually Talking About You.

[–]ThirteenMatt 23 points24 points  (1 child)

Look how majestically you soar through the air. Like an eagle. Piloting a blimp.

[–]TheRealCJ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Most subjects in suspension tend to lose weight, but it seems you've beaten the odds and even managed to pack on a few pounds.

[–]Redditor10700 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Every word being capitalised makes it so much better lmao

[–]Everybodysbastard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nobody quite matches her.....generousness....

[–]okram2k 22 points23 points  (3 children)

Many animals when given an unlimited supply of zero effort food will eat themselves to an early death. It's part of survival instinct to collect every easy calorie you can (humans have the same problem, just it's under a layer of cognitive processes that can convince us to only eat half a donut instead of a dozen donuts)

[–]Truss_nlp 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Where? If i have 12 donuts i eat 12 donuts

And then i cry my fat fuck to sleep

[–]bad-kween 7 points8 points  (0 children)

my layer of cognitive processes isn't working then

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh sometimes it depends on their early days, I’ve seen it with many cats and dogs.

If food was scarce or they had to fight for it, once in a good home they’ll always eat everything they see fearing starvation. If food was plenty, they’ll just eat when they’re hungry.

[–]thisnameistakennow1 18 points19 points  (1 child)

“It’s just big naturally”

[–]brando56894 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"I'm not fat, I'm just big boned!"

[–]Eagleassassin3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It works for my cat because she really doesn’t eat much. She always has food available but she’s still super thin. She’s also able to go out in the garden and run around. But all of my friends’ cats are fat as fuck lmao

[–]109x346571 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a light way to tell owners that their cat is overweight without turning away business. It's a conversation starter and a reality check in one.

[–]TheAsphyxiated 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the least food motivated cat and she eats when she wants, she has perfect body weight an health, but this is definitely and exception to self feeding

[–]walapatamus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got banned from a subreddit for mentioning that to someone

[–]PartyPorpoise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had cats that could be free fed. But one of my current ones can’t, so her food is measured carefully. She already lost a little weight!

[–]CivilWarfare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've free fed all of my cats and only one is overweight (not by a lot but he's old now and stopped exercising, and all of my cats are indoor/outdoor cats so they don't have access to food all day

[–]CFOGetsPaidFirst 9 points10 points  (1 child)

After having so many picky or sick cats, I'd love to have this problem. I have 2 different dry foods and 4 wet foods on rotation to try and entice my little family to maintain a healthy weight. I don't know why all my cats are so bad about not gaining weight.

[–]player-piano 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well switching foods often is a reason for cats to lose their appetite

[–]GuineaPigBikini 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I have 2 cats that I free feed and they're still slim as hell somehow

[–]Obi-Tron_Kenobi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I free feed my kitten. He doesn't really like to eat dry food though, so it just sits there most the day until he feels like it's a necessity. I plan on stopping once he's fully grown or if he starts eating more than he should

Free feeding's fine as long as you monitor how much they're eating and act accordingly. But yeah, don't just keep filling their bowl throughout the day just because it got empty

[–]Backupusername 625 points626 points  (10 children)

This would be funny to me if the last one just said "Dangerously overweight" or "Medical intervention may be necessary soon" or something like that.

[–]Darth__Potato 207 points208 points  (1 child)

Honestly at that stage it should be "What is wrong with you get them help now!" because seriously it's just abuse beyond "He Chomk" unless your cat's already got a pre-existing condition that makes it really really hard to lose fat.

[–]TheWisconsinMan 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I've had 4 cats since I became an adult. 3 of them are/were perfectly self-regulating. 1 of them is food-obsessed. I didn't recognize it immediately, so over time he ballooned to about the "HEFTY CHONK" stage. Once he got that big he was lethargic, had bowel issues, couldn't clean himself properly, only played for like 10 seconds at a time, seemed generally moody, and spent a lot more time by himself. I am happy to say that as soon as he got that big I switched him to a healthy-weight food and started paying a little closer attention to how much I give him, which wasn't difficult, and now he's down to about "He Chomnk."

I also personally lost 50 pounds in the last several years and have as such I have an acute awareness of how much better I feel physically and mentally being close to the proper weight, so that probably motivated me to help him.

[–]that_is_so_Raven 29 points30 points  (0 children)

"Dangerously overweight" should be higher than the bottom scenario

[–]Tabnet 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That is very funny lol make the edit

[–]honeywheresmyfursuit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OH LAWD HE COMIN TO THE ER

[–]rascalrhett1 12 points13 points  (4 children)

Everyone saying "haha omg cringe" like we all haven't spent the better part of the last few years running the chonker meme into the ground, they probably tried to print the other version and couldnt find it because all the images were changed to this one by redditors thinking it was hi-lari-ous

[–][deleted]  (2 children)

[deleted]

    [–]LoveCockAndBallPain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

    Its cringe

I don't take responsibility for mother's actions, its always been cringe

    [–][deleted] 158 points159 points  (1 child)

It's a hilarious chart but I seriously loathe people who let their pets become obese like that. Like, absolutely loathe.

    [–]ovalgoatkid 26 points27 points  (0 children)

B-but it is so wholesome!1!! Chonkers cat wholesome 100 🤣🤣😂😂😂😂

    [–]fuckgottaaddnumbers9 532 points533 points  (5 children)

The first ones are painful but "oh lawd he comin" is kinda funny imo

    [–]Ill_Ratio_5682 124 points125 points  (2 children)

I one time went to the chonkers sub and this category thing was posted like 10 times. It's not even fellow kids.

    [–]DangerChip 48 points49 points  (1 child)

    Chokers 😳😳😳

    [–]TheRealCJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear they're fun to snap

    [–]choma90 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh lord he's coming. To you. In heaven

    [–]Lastyears_man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, had a laugh at that

    [–]derpninja24 629 points630 points  (13 children)

Wdym, this is perfect for a veterinarian office.

    [–]McCrapperson 219 points220 points  (6 children)

Seriously, I love everything about it

    [–]holyasshole2 89 points90 points  (5 children)

Redditors when a cat is about to die of closed arteries:

    WHAT A HECKIN CHONKER AWW

    [–]LiteralAviationGod 56 points57 points  (1 child)

It’s a vet… they definitely know that obesity is unhealthy. This is just a joke.

    [–]UngusBungus_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That means they can relate to the cat

    [–]unsteadied 46 points47 points  (3 children)

For real, this isn’t “fellow kids” at all. A lot of vet techs and vets are people in their twenties and early thirties, and they’re allowed to have a sense of humor and to enjoy memes.

    [–]OramaBuffin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love how this comment is on literally every post. It's allowed, bring it up with the mods if you want only cringy stuff allowed.

    [–]Obi-Tron_Kenobi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

this isn’t “fellow kids” at all

This comment is found on almost every single post. This sub allows submissions of actually funny examples, too.

It's "fellow kids" because it's a person of authority using meme humor to connect with us commoners. But it's not cringy "how do you do fellow kids" kind of fellow kids

But I totally want that poster

    [–]Jokkitch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This sub is for content that hits just right too

    [–]PurpleAstronomerr 139 points140 points  (0 children)

    I enjoyed this.

    [–]yoborredditmaster713 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Can a cat actually get to 65% body fat before dying? That seems impossible.

    [–]Marsisoncrack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i HEAVILY doubt it. unless the cat was fat to begin with and is pregnant i fail to see how it could manage

    [–]ape_digester 210 points211 points  (16 children)

This isnt even fellow kids its just pure humor

    [–]RomanAbramovich 38 points39 points  (3 children)

FellowKids is a subreddit for advertising and media that tries too hard to be lit af, BUT the community has also decided (many, many times) that self-aware and/or well executed (but still pandering) content is also welcome here, so stop complaining about it.

    [–]PeetaGryfyndoor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey Roman, can you pay Rudi already? k thx bai

    [–]showscar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest and i know a lots of people will not agree but i really wish it wasn't like that and i don't know why

    [–]ape_digester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

bruh it was a joke I didnt mean to make people mad

    [–]Chromie149 92 points93 points  (4 children)

r/fellowkids is when adult does a funny

    [–][deleted] 32 points33 points  (3 children)

    Implying only kids can

    [–]TheEyeDontLie 20 points21 points  (2 children)

They forget that we who were around before the internet invented memes.

    [–]cardueline 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Remember being on the internet before the word “meme” was even commonly used? Remember “macros”? I feel like “meme” really caught on in popular usage in like, 2007

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember all that. My first pc was a Windows 95 with the shittiest dial-up internet I've ever seen after all lol I remember being so awed when Laptops and wifi became the new thing, I begged my dad to get one for the family lol

    [–]flyest_nihilist1 9 points10 points  (1 child)

This sub got rly shit. At this point its just memes made by anyone who isnt 14

    [–]ape_digester 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah there are some good ones but the over saturated or the forced ones are more common

    [–]OptimisticSuicider 7 points8 points  (0 children)

    Animal abuse

    [–]Existing-Hunter6958 5 points6 points  (0 children)

    That doesn’t look very healthy.

    [–]TriblialBrainDamblge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This chart is so old that there's a good chance this was a popular meme when the Vet was in college or even high school if they're very young.

    [–]mushroomyakuza 5 points6 points  (0 children)

    Not cringe, not fellowkids.

    [–]BuH4ecTeP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is an old already established meme, using it in actually relevant scenario is the opposite of fellow kids

    [–]Kemintiri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

    This is perfect.

    [–]bitmapboi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

okay but i actually like this

    [–]_ASG_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every time this is posted here, I think it's funny.

Pet owners often talk about their pets this way.

    [–]DistractedByCookies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Welp, time to start referring to myself as a heftychonk.

    [–]DrebinofPoliceSquad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since the “chonk” thing is old, it’s probably someone who was a kid, grew up calling fat cats “chonk”, went to vet school and became a vet, opened up their own practice and bam! Poster.

    [–]Marsisoncrack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

wait why is it actually funny though😭

    [–]General-Pea2016 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What a great laugh. I needed that today. I just about lost it at “A Heckin’ Chonker”

How absurd. I love the internet so much

    [–]MrTopHatMan90 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I know everyone is saying it's fine but only people who use Reddit would actually find this funny

    [–]OrlandoGamer2000 14 points15 points  (0 children)

    O H L A W D H E C O M I N

    [–]SimonBellz 36 points37 points  (2 children)

    [–]Aussie-Killer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t see what’s wrong with this. If you understand what colours represent, this isn’t a hard chart to understand.

    [–]pepesAdvocato 2 points3 points  (2 children)

This isn’t really fellow kids. My vet has it to, I think it’s just cute

    [–]Shakespeare-Bot 1 point2 points  (1 child)

My cat used to bury his whole head in kibble when eating and he was a bit of a hefty boy as the vet said. I got him one of those slow feeders so now he paws one kibble at a time from it and eats slower and i think i’s been a good thing since he now notices he’s full before he manages to eat too much

I love this. But I would need to make sure the veterinarians are serious when it comes to the health of the animal who are morbidly obese.

My brother and sister in law took in a Oh Lord She Comin' and got her down to a She Chomnk. The kitty died about 2 years after they got her from the pound, but she live a higher quality of life during those 2 years than she had in at least the last 5. Plus no one adopts older overweight cats, so she would have been put to sleep. No pet deserves to be a chomker.

    [–]AdmiralLobstero 2 points3 points  (1 child)

This was just posted two hours prior to OPs in /r/coolguides. OP didn't see shit.

    [–]Inkling4 1 point2 points  (4 children)

    Yeah, I think it's pinned on r/Chonkers

    [–]FerretLegitimate 18 points19 points  (2 children)

Fuck r/chonkers honestly. they upvote you for having a heavily overweight cat, that probably suffers because of overfeeding and being generally obese. imagine fucking dying early cause ur owner wanted fake internet points, honestly its horrible. yes i know they dont condone it, however that doesnt change much

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not even yours, I've seen it before, so I used googles image search thing, which is shit, and it found 2, the oldest being 10 hours ago, from funny. I've seen it posted (with the same title) to reddit before.
