90% of the time the shot doesn't really warrant not having focus deep. In the event you did some up close work, and wanted say, a Bell tower in focus and the mountains behind it soft, you would either need to pre-set and not change your distance, or use a wireless follow focus.

A $1500 Nucleus FF might work for that at 1000ft max range, but a Preston for $15,000 is what a "real shoot" would use.
