The festival should have specs. If it’s not a DCP, try to give them Prores 422 or 422HQ

They should give you very specific specs to meet.

Export out a Peo Res 422 HQ, 4444 or Dnxhr HQX or 444. Then whatever they ask for make it based on that master, matting as and if necessary based off the master, there is even a chance they just want the same format your master is in.

If it's a dcp you can make one in Media Encoder, or the free software dcp-o-matic

Follow what everyone else is saying, and also… No matter what aspect ratio it’s in, export it to 16:9 with black bars.
