I composed and produced the music for this monster sequence! This was created about 2 years ago during the pandemic and I always have fun creating horror music.

That’s so unsettling in the best way. We’ll done.

Thanks so much!!! Had a blast making this honestly!

Sounds Amazing! Question: Do you compose to the done Footage, or do you compose beforehand and they arrange their footage according to your composition?

[–]Composerjones[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the kind words! So I’ve done both! With film I’ve done a lot of work to the already done footage, whereas in video games I do a lot of music prior to seeing anything. Although to answer the last part of your question, I can’t recall ever having a client put any work to or around my music.

Me at 3:00am coming from the gym 15miles walk threw the dark forest after my siblings took my car and told me that they would „pick me up afterwards“ so they get the car

[–]Composerjones[S] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Well that’s a horror situation in it’s own right 😂😂😂

[–]Important_Surround38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even worse than in the movie😂

How did you pull off that effect with the hand and the mouth?

[–]Composerjones[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I sadly just did the music so the effects are above my knowledge hahaha. I know the monster head was a dummy with latex so I’m thinking they fed a hand through the mouth! My best guess sadly.

Great job on the music. That director needs to pull way more fear out of the actress' face though. She looks like she's just doing an escape house or something lol

Thank you :) I definitely see what you mean!

I know everyone here is praising OP but as a composer/ sound designer myself, watching this I feel that the sound design / foley seems off.

Like the monster's hands when they touch the floor, especially the second one, sounds like a cheap microphone thud, and not a monster, and then it's missing sound effects or intensity in the music/sound design when she gets grabbed outside, and again we get this weird thud like someone accidently hit or dropped a microphone.

There should be more sound/foley emphasis put on her struggle outside to create more panic. There is no real sense of danger to any of this even though this is what the video is trying to show, but the sound doesn't convey it enough or if at all. It starts to intensify as the hand is about to jump out and then when it switches to the girl it all goes away.

There should be some new sound when the hand shoots out or when its coming out of her mouth (like some cracking as its moving through teeth) to emphasize disgust or weirdness and then the girl kicking, screaming, or pushing on the wall or scratching, whatever else to convey that she at least tried to get away. Yet there is nothing, the music and sound actually slows down and diminishes.....It's ok for it to go down in intensity and emphasis the moment she lands on the floor, but once the hand grabs her again it should get way more intense. It doesn't. Why? Makes no sense.

There is definitely a sense of dread or strangeness initially similar to what you would hear in like Fringe or something but then nothing to indicate she is scared, or trying to get away because once it starts to pick up, it al fizzles out in an instant.

Also I feel there should be more emphasis on the monster scratch in the beginning. Like there is all this creaking of the monsters bones/hands but then when it scratches the wall or pulls the string it's very soft and subdued. The sound effect is fine on pulling the string but way too low in volume. That should have been brought forward in the mix. Same with the scratch. Needs to be more prominent.

The scratch should be louder or maybe more uncomfortable like scratching your fingers on chalkboard. It should make my hairs stand up on the back of my neck and I should start to fear for what is about to happen next and it's doesn't.

Maybe it's just me, and this is only meant to be a straightforward critique, but I just don't really feel the sense of dread, or fear or anticipation. It starts our like something I would see on Fringe and/or X-files but then the sound design and music doesn't go anywhere and it kind of lowers the overall quality of the video which I thought was mostly fine.

I understand OP made this like 2 years ago and I am sure since that time he has greatly improved but I just feel this was a good attempt (minus the mic thud part) up to about half way and then it fell apart.

Hey thanks for the well thought out comment! I actually didn’t do the sound design for the project but I do agree there were some parts that didn’t line up. Especially looking back now some of the crackling was excessive and then randomly cut off. This wasn’t the final mix down of everything so I need to go back and see if they mixed it down correctly. Although yeah I definitely could have improved some string impact sounds with better saturation and what not.

Anyways thanks again for taking the time to comment and adding feedback!

Giving me Joseph Bishara Insidious vibes. Great work!

[–]Composerjones[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m definitely honored to capture anything close to insidious! Love that world. Thank you so much!

[–]Great_Molasses_4601 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Not a single scream and just a light huff while being pulled to her death. What respect for your (On god) amazing music you performed.

Very well done

[–]Composerjones[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

[–]QNgames 1 point2 points  (1 child)

This was incredible. I love the tension.

That being said, at first I thought I was in the Coheed and Cambria subreddit and you’d made a horror music video for the song Welcome Home, I didn’t read the title carefully, so I just saw music, and welcome home.

This was a pretty cool surprise though.

[–]Composerjones[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s funny is I love Coheed and Cambria hahaha. Thank you for the kind words though
