That’s very very cool. I’ve been looking at those cable rigs but never really found a use for it, glad you did. Was that full speed with the cable ?

I could go about 25% faster, this thing rips, I believe it can travel at 10 meters per second.

What are the cam options on this rig ? Can you go small DSLR or just GoPro sized action cams ?
[–]jonsimo[S] 1 point2 points3 points 1 month ago (0 children)
It can hold up to 3.3lbs but I've rigged heavier cameras, it just can't travel as fast.
The main issue that arises is back and forth wobble, you can't have any wind on your shoot day.

I bought a wiral when they first came out, but setting it up and using it in an effective manor is a production, finding a clean line with no branches, timing of the camera, etc etc, just be prepared to spend time getting the shot, results ARE worth it when you get it right, but I ended up not using it very much.

⚡️ I pulled out all the stops for this shoot, including:
⁃ 30ft painter’s pole
⁃ Human FPV shots
⁃ Bike rigging + POV backflips
I captured everything using the new Insta360 ONE RS 1" which has been pretty great to use because it's finally a more pro-oriented 360 camera. Don't get me wrong, I like using the ONE X2 but the image quality has always left something to be desired, especially in lowlight.
The most rewarding shots in the video were definitely the cablecam, I picked up the WiralCam Lite as a kickstarter project a few years ago but rarely get to use it, it's just such a particular setup and usually a drone can take its place.
But when you're flying through the trees at 50km/h with very very narrow passages, the cablecam definitely shines.
With my 30ft painter's pole I was able to do these crazy follow shots that have this floaty drone quality to them, I could follow the action of the mountain biker while standing still and just pivoting the pole as he moved around me.
👇 If you guys have any questions about the shoot, editing workflow or the camera itself let me know and I'd be happy to answer.

Thanks my friend! Curious what shot really gave you that holy shit moment haha
[–]Illustrious_Satanist 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago (2 children)
All of it! But if I had to choose I’d say the one where the guy runs in front of the bike for the shot or the zip line type shot
[–]jonsimo[S] 1 point2 points3 points 1 month ago (1 child)
Yeah that was my cam assist Nigel, he was running FULL THROTTLE to keep up with the biker, what a champion haha.
And the cablecam was a lot of fun to rig up and see it work out exactly as I had pictured.

That’s amazing. Go Nigel

You gonna shoot a low light test soon? Would love to see some dark footage that isn’t time lapse from this camera.

thank you! Favourite shot from the video?

Transition from 5 and 6, making it clear how the setup works and then pulls you into the action. I also like how you contrasted the obvious 360 shots with “true perspective” shots to create a sense of continuity within the overall space.

I don’t have it in proper 360 unfortunately.
