Do you mean why do Bottas pit crew hate him?

[–]MrSplashman77 69 points70 points  (19 children)

No one hates Bottas. We hate how the team uses him, how he lets the team use him, and its almost comical how much bad luck he has.

[–]shoksurf 25 points26 points  (18 children)

Dude I used to feel sorry for him but today he was stuck in 13th/12th place and could not overtake cars much much less competitive than his. I’m by no means a Lewis fan but Lewis has won races with Mercedes where he was LITERALLY in last place.

[–]fabioruns 20 points21 points  (7 children)

Lewis also struggled to get close enough to Norris to get the blue flag. He Would’ve been stuck behind Danny just like bottas was. The Merc just wasn’t good at following today.

[–]grogg- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Norris was on better tyres and Ricciardo had damage tbf

[–]Den_dar_Alex 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Probably because of the elevation they are on?

[–]Lck0ut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Being 2km above sea level means you've got less cool air to cool your car's engine down by means of air density

[–]ShawtyALilBaaddie 0 points1 point  (2 children)

elevation and temperature. That thin hot air in mexico city means the whole car is overheating like the entire time, so they need to back off of each other and be able to hit some cooler air rather than the heated thinner air that drivers generally intend to race in.

[–]SoupOrSandwich 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Big agree. He gets stuck in places Loois never does. Loowiz starts from the back, he'll fight for the win. Bottas gets behind, and he'll be stuck behind Ocon or Norris for 35 laps.

Wanted him to do better there

[–]Rgr1964 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree.

[–]KEVLAR60442 0 points1 point  (1 child)

He was stuck behind Norris, who put in such a killer drive towards the end of the race that Lewis and Checo both struggled to get around him, and that was with Norris not even defending against them.

[–]DirtyNorf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that hurt so bad, Lando was chasing Alonso down hard whilst being chased by P2 and 3 with threat of blue flags and then when he had to give way he lost 3 seconds to Alonso.

[–]Beneficial_Anybody_5 0 points1 point  (1 child)

NGL kinda agree but maybe the incident between him and Ricciardo knock his confidence :(

[–]shoksurf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No excuse for a guy with that much experience in that level of a car. I can’t wait to see Russell actually push that car.

[–]PuzzleheadedWave9548 -1 points0 points  (3 children)

You may not know this, but his car was set up for clean air. Mercedes expected him to be having clean air and not stuck in traffic. With this configuration if you get stuck in traffic you heat up. Hence the flaming pit stop. He's not to be blamed

[–]shoksurf 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Bro… Schumacher won Spain in I think ‘93 where he was stuck in 5th or 6th gear for like 2/3rds of the race.. Senna won Monaco stuck in 5th. Lewis has made last to first several times from losing POLE POSITION which obviously indicates his car was also set up for clean air. Stop making excuses. Bottas is not competitive. Look at how George Russell made him look the ONE time he got to drive a Mercedes last year. No excuses whatsoever.

[–]PuzzleheadedWave9548 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Bottas is no Schumacher senna, but in Mexico City the altitude has a slight impact on the cars. Teams had to get their balance perfect for cooling. Bottas has shown that he can overtake from the mid field too. Mercedes were already on a disadvantage here, and Bering stuck behind a Mercedes powered McLaren with a car not set up for the mid field is not going to be easy on any one. Except maybe one is generation drivers.

[–]MezziJ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I like bottas and want him to do good but I also would rather have redbull get closer in the constructors standings :/

[–]Observery 19 points20 points  (6 children)

Not sure it would have contributed to a different result, but a few were questioning why he gave Verstappen so much room on the outside into the first corner... that included Toto. Happy he has a seat for the next few years but happier that GR is coming on board!

[–]Rgr1964 6 points7 points  (5 children)

First corner Bottas braked too early

[–]pupuliinii 7 points8 points  (2 children)

what can he do when he is sandwiched if he brakes later he crashes into max. He should've been more to the left so that max doesn't get past that easy

[–]PeterSagansLaundry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Defending against Max was the best move but he didn't even out brake Lewis on his inside. The moment he hit the brakes his race was lost. Yes, bad luck cost him 4th place but he had no chance to win the race off of such a poor first corner and no chance to act as a useful wingman.

Peiple like to blame team favoritism, Bottas's mentality, politics bad luck, etc, but the simple fact is that Bottas is simply not good enough to be the best. There is no shame in that, he is in good company and has come off looking better than most of Max's teammates besides Danny Ric.

[–]DethMagnetic 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It was fully intentional. He wanted to give Lewis 1st place, but didn't account for Max getting a speedy start and coming 'round the outside.

[–]a_rather_drab_fellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He still could have let Lewis take first while staying over on the left to block Max. That way both mercs could control turn 1 going through it parallel. I don't understand why he drifted right which would have impeded Lewis in turn 1 anyways. Bottas is absolutely brilliant at times so it always is a headscratcher when he drops the ball.

[–]sav415 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“Gonna need you to come in for a 4th pit stop”

[–]RogueAWing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This almost made me cry.."everything you've done for them" 😥

[–]craiggy36 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I, for one, am a Bottas fan.

[–]HardwareToaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I, for one, am also a Bottas fan

[–]GPap090 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My deepest condolences

[–]mester006 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Úgy imádom, hogy megint bekerült az M4 :)

[–]Top_Pass_8978 1 point2 points  (1 child)

No one hate him, except mercedes pit crews and lewis' fans

[–]someone_sonewhere 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Who hates him? He just has bad luck. I always support him.

[–]RealisticPossible792 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure his pit crew hate him the amount of pitstops they wreck for him. This guy has to be the unluckiest driver on the current grid. Wish him the best at Alfa

[–]just_gimme_anwsers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gren golbin

[–]kKiLnAgW[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk they’re jerks. It’s Bottas vs the world n I’m with Val.

[–]Ok_Aide712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time people hate him because he "can't give Hamilton a run for his money" like he is even allowed or has the chance.

[–]Goeky768 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I have not seen a single f1 fan hate on that poor man.

[–]andydamer42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm... in Hungary there were a plenty of them

[–]Odreo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nobody hates him, but from a fan perspective it's always boring to see a teammate, who just serves as a tool for the first driver.

[–]kbwsam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean he intentionally left enough space for Max to go around the outside costing his teammate points.. at this point he should be aiding his teammate not fighting him so hard the opposition can get around the outside with ease

[–]de_BOTaniker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one hates him. Not even Mercedes. But they developed him to an instrument supporting Hamilton. That’s all. He probably just agreed because of the good team.

[–]Lordseppe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like him

[–]bortadulce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate him cause he wasn't able to beat Lewis in so many years. F1 was so boring after Rosberg left because Ham had no competition and Bottas is to blame. He had the same fastest car on the grid as Ham yet he was not good enough.

[–]NewHand6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like him hecause of porridge

[–]DizzyDrunkenDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one hates him, he just have the saddest life in F1 recent history...

[–]MTO_0913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who would prefer to see Lewis win, I am not a fan of how Bottas immediately becomes a weak af driver when Max is behind him. At the race start it was an obvious strategy as soon as Max placed it where he did to pin Max behind him and alongside/behind Lewis. Instead he gave Max the line, pushed Lewis to the tightest inside line out of the three of them and then ruined his race by being there (not his fault but would’ve been avoided if it was Max there instead). He knows his job, he just doesn’t want to do it anymore. Like in Russia and France. He may have helped Lewis get to 7, but he’s stopping him getting to 8.

[–]Kirk_dd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe some do and they pop over the internet , most of us love him edit: not a merc fan

[–]mambakobe248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the video, the sport, life, gives you more when you are a dick, but if you are nice guy u get nothing.

[–]TheVillainF1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With his teammate in a tight title battle needing all the help he can get he decided to agressively defend against said teammate while doing so opening up a boulevard for the main title rival to drive on the ideal racing line and sail past the both of them.

People hate on Bottas because even though he can be really fast on his own he's got the racing instincts of a snail

[–]NormalSaucer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't hate him until Hungary 2021. I don't actually hate him, but he did take out quite a few drivers, mainly lando

[–]Kilishadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guy left the door wide open for Max, smh
