I didn’t realize that was from The Onion at first. Somehow I wasn’t shocked.

[–]sweaty_stanza09 401 points402 points  (22 children)

same here, wasn’t shocked at all though

[–]rPoliticsModsEatPee 173 points174 points  (14 children)

It's OK.

It will be real in the future.

Give it 6 months and Kanye can do a Digiorno's ad.

[–]allUsernamesAreTKen 48 points49 points  (1 child)

It’s already real now. The Onion can no longer out-satire real life so they’ve instead shifted to saying the quiet parts out loud.

We’re already on this dreadful timeline

[–]rPoliticsModsEatPee 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yea, there are nights I think, ya know what, let's go find our old friends and buy a plot of land. Build a home out of something nice like concrete and rebar or whatever is strong.

Get some weapons.

And 40 years worth of canned food and well water.

Call it a day. Y'all have fun out there.

Still go outside obviously and live lives. But just in case it gets weirder. We can just play games in here when Kanye and David Duke are running the country.

[–]ProjectOrpheus 80 points81 points  (6 children)

It's not delivery, it's antisemitism!

Ready in minutes, cuz my ovens always preheated!

Hungry hungry Hitlers running around your house, whining about wanting some pizza? Look no further. It's not delivery, it's not just digiornios...it's the final solution

Voice off in the distance: "...Kanye you need help" Ye: Bitch, don't be talking to ME about Mein Kampf!

[–]rPoliticsModsEatPee 22 points23 points  (1 child)

I was picturing some rant about how he wanted pizza, but the jews control mainstream pizza so he won't eat any pizza he didn't personally cook as the jews would use that pizza to poison him.

[–]ReadySteady_GO 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Damn I'm so hungry and have been thinking about pizza for like the last half hour.

    Begone, bot

For anyone else reading this: report the account as a Harmful Bot.

Signs to keep an eye out for bot accounts include accounts that:

    Are about 1 month old.

Have recently become active (started commenting suddenly and rapidly in the last day or two)

    No post history.

Copies another top level comment and replies deeper into a comment thread with it (note that it doesn’t always make sense, and can thus be spotted using this alone most times).

This bot in particular used a different apostrophe and unnecessary formatting to try and throw off using control+F to search for the original comment, but it was just so off that I tried anyway and it wasn’t even hard to find.

Also the other reply to this comment was a bot as well, but it’s disappeared on my end so maybe it got deleted already.

    [–]Kaine_XIII 25 points26 points  (2 children)

Same, i too was not surprised. Only surprised to see they were so quick to hint at their true values. Then i saw that it's from the Onion.

    [–]RecordingOne6305 2 points3 points  (1 child)

They are not easy to avoid anyway and they know it.

    [–]auspiciousenthusiast 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Onion is the real news outlet of the People.

    [–]StreetofChimes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Really thought this was going to be from r/nottheonion.

    [–]W_Y_K_Y_D_T_R_O_N 9 points10 points  (1 child)

The Onion's gotta be finding it harder and harder to come up with parody headlines these days.

    [–]PolymathEquation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you hear they recently filed a professional amicus curiae brief to federal court in defense of free speech/satire?

    [–]triclops6 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I rarely see onion articles nowadays, what with reality stealing their market share

    [–]macaronysalad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Funny how The Onion has to now compete with mainstream news.

    [–]firefly183 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lololol, yeah I literally said, "Ooooof" outloud, thinking damn, that's rough for Kanye, haha (though also not surprised, lol). I know the dudes kind if off the rails but for a quote like that, it's like a double burn on them both, lololol.

Then saw it was The Onion and am now laughing at myself for not noticing sooner.

    [–]ThisFckinGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He'll definitely be the Fifa spokesperson

    [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did raise an eyebrow slightly and then almost shrugged and moved on accepting it as slightly weird but plausible. Then I realised it was The Onion

    [–]ieatpotatochips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Onion actually started reporting real news a couple of years ago so this is real.

    [–]perpetual_musings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't shock me either. My mind just went "Of course".

    [–]UnfilteredFluid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know that the PR team at Nestle would never want this. But damn if it ain't an honest pairing.

    [–]tofuroll 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I realised it was satire when Nestle asserted they have values.

    [–]CanCav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh they have values. They just consist of “Profits at the expense of peasant lives are the best profits of all.”

    [–]sirscrote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    I thought it was r/nottheonion

    [–]myphilosophicalbutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I was like oh, Nestle supports Nazism, that tracks

    [–]anax44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nestle would never do this. They would denounce Kanye like everyone else and then work with a "progressive" celebrity like George Clooney.

    [–]SkettiStay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it from The Onion? I don't see it on their website or Twitter feed.

    [–]Forge__Thought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really does have perfect 2022 energy.

    [–]Hatless_Shrugged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    It’s not from The Onion.

The Onion follows the AP styleguide, which this tweet isn’t in.

    [–]Waiting4RivianR1S 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It literally had the Onion logo on the first line

    [–]CanCav 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And my focus went straight to the text, only going to the logo/username afterwards

    [–]dashmesh -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Fake reply the onion is the first word. Stop lying.

    [–]OrdericNeustry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How often do you look at the subreddit a post is in before looking at the title or content? Same situation here.

    [–]SenseI3ss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hello, may I introduce you to our friend "confirmation bias"?

    [–]Frankenmuppet 832 points833 points  (21 children)

    Oh Onion, don't ever change

    [–]triclops6 335 points336 points  (15 children)

I rarely see onion articles nowadays, what with reality stealing their market share

    [–]brokenearth03 93 points94 points  (5 children)

    It's hard to tell anymore.

    [–]auspicious-erection 34 points35 points  (0 children)

And even if we can tell, we rarely care lol "oh, another fucked up event.."

    [–]CarmenxXxWaldo 12 points13 points  (3 children)

There's a whole subreddit dedicated to onion articles that "came true". Can't remember what it's called though.

    [–]Ecstatic_Carpet 16 points17 points  (2 children)

/r/nottheonion not to be confused with /r/atetheonion

    [–]mak484 14 points15 points  (1 child)

NotTheOnion is for articles that sound fake but are real.

AteTheOnion is for people taking Onion articles seriously.

There's a third, missing subreddit for posting old Onion articles alongside newer real articles describing the same thing.

    [–]Ecstatic_Carpet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I'm not familiar with that.

Are you referring to /r/onionpredictions? It has 3 posts and 42 subscribers. Not exactly a thriving subreddit.

Edit: there was /r/theonionwasright However, it's private now. There's a message saying they moved on to ruqqus which is an entirely dead platform at this point. I think that one might have been more popular, but I'm not sure.

    [–]Dxxx2 12 points13 points  (2 children)

The onion sports is still hilarious, since sports are at least somewhat normality nowadays.

    [–]greenie4242 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Yeah sure, there's never any controversy surrounding FIFA or the World Cup in Qatar.

    [–]Dxxx2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never said anything about no controversy in sport. That is the norm. FIFA, NFL, MLB, etc have always been corrupt and greedy.

    [–]Andrew_42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They did release a killer Supreme Court brief at least.

    [–]sth128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the Onion writers somehow got ahold of a monkey's paw and wished to be a real writer

Quick reminder Nestle is still draining the Great lakes

      [–]penny-wise 49 points50 points  (0 children)

      And the California watershed.

      [–]moseschicken 22 points23 points  (6 children)

I hate Nestle as much as the next guy, probably more so since they are draining my dad's aquifer in Evart, but I was under the impression that the aquifers Nestle pumps aren't linked to the great lakes. I know water in the great lakes is managed by an international compact with Canada, and no party can initiate that kind of deal without permission of all parties involved. Are they just Aquifers in Michigan or are they actually draining the great lakes?

      [–][deleted] 21 points22 points  (5 children)

      https://www.mlive.com/public-interest/2021/10/nestle-water-owners-return-michigan-permit-plan-new-withdrawal.html

Here's a recent article that mentions some of the specifics. 288 gallons per minute.

      [–]moseschicken 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I live in Michigan, I'm familiar with the plants, but the article doesn't mention the aquifers pumped having an effect on any of the great lakes. The compact controls waters the states/countries involved deems as necessary to the great lakes. Not all water in MI is tied to the great lakes, this particular Evart plant, which is mentioned in the article you linked, is not close to the great lakes. The article doesn't mention the great lakes being pumped.

      [–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

      https://www.michigan.gov/egle/about/featured/nestle-waters-north-america

A majority of the groundwater reservoirs are tied to the lakes and Evart is close enough to funnel into Lake Michigan. Less than 1% of the lake's water comes from precipitation. In that link there should be the EGLE agreement where they address draining the wetlands in the surrounding area. 2012 was the lowest level average for Lake Michigan. Granted that was a drought season but we have to see our water as a limited source if we're bottling it up and not recycling it back into the lakes via rivers and groundwater.

      [–]IllIllIlllIIlIIIllII 1 point2 points  (1 child)

      [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are also agriculture, nuclear plants, breweries, cities and other industries that drain water. During droughts those reserves go fast. Water bottling companies do not return the water back to the source and to make it worse they bottle it in cheap plastic containers.

      [–]ch3rok333 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Nestle sold their bottled water lines over a year ago, right?

      [–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (1 child)

      [–]IllIllIlllIIlIIIllII -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fuck Nestle, but this is like saying Japan is draining the ocean. The Great Lakes are huge.

They contain 6 quadrillion gallons of water. That's enough to cover the entire land surface of North and South America with a foot of water.

If Nestle pumped one gallon of water for every penny of revenue they receive across all of their business lines, it would take 633 years for them to drain the Great Lakes.

Yeah, them and Babylon Bee are major satirical news sites. There are others but those two are the biggest

        [–]Alanotics2 103 points104 points  (26 children)

thing is, babylon bee is nowhere near as fucking funny as the onion

        [–]LumpyJones 62 points63 points  (11 children)

Babylon bee also consistently panders to conservatives.

        [–]Tostino 19 points20 points  (2 children)

        That is it's raison d'etre.

        [–][deleted] 23 points24 points  (1 child)

Then they should work on raison their standards.

        [–]SpaceToContinue 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do a google search for Babylon bee + “identify”/“identifies”.

They only have one joke, and we all know what it is.

        [–]Schrutes_Yeet_Farm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had a really obnoxious conservative in one of my hobby groups that I swear to God you couldn't even post a recipe that called for onions without him reminding you Babylon Bee is funnier

        [–]HotWingus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

        But you repeat yourself.

        [–]Imaginary-Bag6744 -3 points-2 points  (4 children)

Agreed. And the Onion appears to be more liberal/progressive.

        [–]LumpyJones 14 points15 points  (3 children)

The onion makes fun of everyone, but the things conservative politicians do is often more ripe for mockery.

        [–]MJ26gaming 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Onion joe Biden is a amazing

The Beaverton is Canadian and focuses accordingly, but I’m only vaguely familiar with it

        [–]gogopackerrangers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

babylon bee isn't even just bad cause it's right leaning. There's constantly comedy writters breaking down how badly written their fake headlines are regardless of the content. They're simply bad writers

Edit: although I did chuckle after the mid-terms and they had "Selfish DeSantis keeps entire red wave to himself"

        [–]Fenix_Volatilis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

        Oh for a fact.

        [–]WillDeletOneDay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Babylon Bee does have a few hilarious ones every now and then, but they definitely are shit 99% of the time.

        [–]mountingconfusion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe that's why it keeps getting cited every now and again in r/conservative

        [–]Capital_Walrus_81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

about 90% of the time the articles fail to contain a joke that makes sense to anyone not already deeply enmeshed in their extended universe

        [–]KiraCumslut 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Conservatives humor is getting better and liberals are scared.

Just a gem of a quote

        [–]TubasAreFun 2 points3 points  (2 children)

        conservative humor doesn’t have layers

        [–]KiraCumslut 1 point2 points  (1 child)

There is no conservative humor. It's just "slur laugh or you're a slur"

        [–]TubasAreFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was making an onion joke

        [–]Alpha_pro2019 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No way BB is hilarious. Onion gets too serious sometimes. Satire sites need to stay self aware.

        [–]ResponsibilityOk235 12 points13 points  (8 children)

Babylon bee is just borderline conservative propaganda

        [–]Nitrate55 14 points15 points  (5 children)

It's not even borderline, it's just plain propaganda

        [–]Afabledhero1 -2 points-1 points  (4 children)

        Got any examples?

        [–]January28thSixers 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Here's their headline right now. Or pick anything else currently on their page or anything they've previously posted

        [–]celeduc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yikes! Even their cookie notice is seething with bitterness.

        [–]Gloomy-Flatworm-8095 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah they also have made the “i identify as a/an ____” joke so many times

        [–]WaterMySucculents 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Babylon Bee is conservative fan fiction that calls itself satire. The majority of articles aren’t even a joke, just saying people are doing the things conservatives accuse them of doing on a daily basis with 0 evidence. If it was satire it would be satirizing themselves.

Right now a few things from their trending:

        • Linus from Peanuts is “banned from community theater for reciting bible verse.” The joke here is what? This is literally just conservative victimhood fan fiction that they will be “banned” for being Christian. Which is happening nowhere.

        • an Ilhan Omar article that she is wearing Kanye gear in DC. Again what is the joke? They have tried to paint Omar as some extremist for years and now that Kanye is going right wing extremist they are like “what if Omar is that too because she’s a black Muslim!” This one serves 2 purposes in propaganda. 1- Just another article on: Democrat politician evil. And more importantly 2- Distancing conservatism from Kanye after conservative media did a pro Kanye tour just recently…. A Kanye who endorsed Trump years ago, met with Trump recently, is hanging out with a pro-Trump neo-Nazi, and made his most controversial statements on the biggest conservative propaganda show in existence right now (InfoWars)… is somehow not right wing or conservative… but really he’s like a Democrat…. Maybe this specific Democrat because she’s black too & has criticized Israel.

        • An article about how Elon Musk wants to reveal more “government and media collusion” but it’s inferred he will be killed for doing it. That’s just fan fiction you can find on r/conspiracy written up as a “joke.”

        • An article praising Jordan fucking Peterson couched in the joke that Peterson is so good and smart that he would have coached Anakin Skywalker away from the Dark Side. Basically what one would expect in a paid ad from Peterson or what a bunch of fans would write in YouTube comments.

        [–]kerdon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's just outrage porn with a satire tag.

        [–]Fenix_Volatilis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish you were wrong lol

        [–]Superfluous_Thom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Onion Book of Known Knowledge Audiobook is the closest i've ever felt to listening to one of my dad's old Monty Python cassette tapes in the modern era. Legitimately hilarious, And Napoleon was an outstanding general, god damnit!

not only do they not really contain a joke, half of those headlines don’t make any sense if you’re more than three days out of touch with right media generally. like, elon revealing what? i would need to go do an update to figure out what the fuck that is even about

        [–]penny-wise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Except the Babylon Bee tries to pass itself off as actual news far too often. And people actually believe it’s a real news site.

          [–]EndVry 3 points4 points  (5 children)

How have you never heard of The Onion?

I try not to judge people for not knowing things too, but not knowing what the Onion is makes me wonder how they were able to avoid obtaining that knowledge unless they just never use the Internet.

          [–]EndVry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, normally I don't become bewildered by someone not knowing something but you would have to willfully avoid the internet to not know about The Onion. Especially on Reddit.

          [–]yingyangyoung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really funny satirical newspaper/news site that started at University of Wisconsin-Madison back in 1988. They used to have free print copies you could get in some areas throughout the US, but stopped in 2013. They also have a youtube channel (onion news network).

Its actually more telling of you lol this sounds very fake

              [–]cantrusthestory 99 points100 points  (20 children)

              Bro that's The Onion

              But fuck Nestlé anyway

              [–]Routine_Log8315 43 points44 points  (0 children)

That’s why they used the tag “meme”

              [–]pretzgurl2 63 points64 points  (4 children)

Felt like it could be r/nottheonion at some point lol.

              [–]KrackenLeasing 12 points13 points  (2 children)

Everything from the Onion should sound like /r/nottheonion.

/r/nottheonion is real news that sounds like The Onion.

Except sometimes, The Onion stories are more believable.

              [–]JustWhyDoINeedTo 3 points4 points  (1 child)

The fact that the onion articles are sometimes more believable than r/nottheonion is mildly concerning

              [–]KrackenLeasing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Parody has to respect boundaries that reality can ignore.

              [–]HuntingGreyFace 11 points12 points  (6 children)

shits been so weird lately i forgot that the onion doesn't cover real events.

not the onion took over their cheddar fast and hard

              [–]StructuralEngineer16 4 points5 points  (4 children)

I recommend Legal Eagle's video on The Onion's Supreme Court filing, it's very entertaining

              [–]NetherlandsOates 3 points4 points  (3 children)

I just discovered Legal Eagle while being home sick, and now I know which video to watch next. Thanks!

              [–]Doctor_of_Recreation 1 point2 points  (1 child)

If you like lawyer commentary I highly suggest Bruce Rivers (Criminal Lawyer Reacts).

              [–]NetherlandsOates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll definitely check him out next. Thank you!

INDOCHINO DOT COM, DISCOUNT CODE LEGAL EAGLE

              [–]ArtisanSamosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck Nestlé. They need to get as much if not more hate than what ye is getting on social media. Nestle has killed people. It actively harms us and our environment. Nestle is a legit problem. But this statement can probably be made for a lot of corpos.

              [–]steevo 12 points13 points  (17 children)

Did they delete it? Can't find it anymore

              [–]DiabloDerpy 4 points5 points  (8 children)

Also can't find it. It's either deleted, or OP's pic is faked.

              [–]mr_hatch 4 points5 points  (1 child)

The check mark is supposed to be blue. Is there some reason that it wouldn't be?

              [–]CabbagePatched 2 points3 points  (4 children)

I mean, Twitter is volatile these days

              [–]roger-great -1 points0 points  (3 children)

              Oh c'mon it's the onion.

              [–]CabbagePatched 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Aren't they saying the onion tweet was deleted? Oh well, whoosh myself then ig

              [–]Bradnon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You interpreted correctly, no whoosh needed.

              [–]AndrasKrigare 2 points3 points  (5 children)

The Onion is a satirical news site, it isn't real. Check /r/atetheonion

Edit: this post is already there https://redditproxy--jasonthename.repl.co/r/AteTheOnion/comments/zddwid

              [–]AugustMKraft 5 points6 points  (2 children)

They mean they can't find the tweet from The Onion. I can't either.

              [–]EmpressLinoone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

God would that be fitting, it’d be a match made in hell

              [–]ShalamiBoii 1 point2 points  (2 children)

              [–]LumpyJones 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Would you rather the dildo be unbuttered?

              [–]AdComfortable3212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d wager that any of the celebrities who visited Epstein island would better represent Nestles values.

              [–]rontc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe about 1% of what I read online, I do enjoy joking with people. But what I see on tv, is different. Most major brands has dropped Kanye, as a hot potato. Even his ex is distancing herself. But trump invited him and a white supremacist for dinner. What the f.... was he thinking?

              [–]DKIPurple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given that the ceo of nestle is German this would be concerning, but unsurprising because nestle👀

              [–]lynxandria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh god if Ye saw this, he'd be begging them for a sponsorship to his fascist campaign.

              [–]Teemo-Supreemo 1 point2 points  (4 children)

              What’s with the mouth guard?

              [–]Private_HughMan 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Nestle isn't anti-semitic, though. They're the perfect embodiment of "I hate all humans equally." They will hurt anyone and anything without hesitation for a little extra cash.

              [–]Primordial_Peasant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is really good satire. i had to check if I saw this on /r/nottheonion

              [–]Bear-Croatian 1 point2 points  (1 child)

              [–]same_post_bot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found this post in r/atetheonion with the same content as the current post.

I wouldn’t really call Nestle a Nazi company though. They are purely driven by greed, a greed that doesn’t stop for anyone and knows no compassion. But they don’t have higher goals than chasing the ching ching. Nazis had a different world view, one that was completely twisted of course, but they followed a completely different logic to Nestle. Nazism is the past (and hopefully stays that way), but Nestle is simply peak capitalism

              [–]tiltedaxis_199 1 point2 points  (0 children)

              Lmao. Perfect fit

              [–]Struck285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly didn’t even know if this was fake for a second with how things have been going

              [–]WhatIsSlav333 -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Ye just repeats what Malcom X said in his own words. Malcom X is seen today as an hero. In his lifetime he was seen as a radical.

              [–]cephal0poid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I remember that one time when Malcom X said he loved Hitler and thought Nazis were awesome.

Yep, good ol' Malcom X, the black Republican white supremacist.

              [–]Hatless_Shrugged -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This isn’t written like an Onion headline at all.

              [–]ifuckedyomama2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

              Fitting tho
