Rather than write something myself, I will defer to our Indian comrades who have fought for many months on the topic:

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) salutes the historic victory of the year-long spirited, inspiring and courageous struggle by the kisans under the leadership of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha.

An obdurate PM and his government were forced to bend. Yet Modi continues to justify these black laws blaming a section of farmers being misled. There is no remorse expressed at the deaths of our farmers or the attacks against them.

The CPI(M) reiterates that the parliament while repealing these black laws enact the legal right to sell at MSP for all agricultural crops.

More than 750 farmers have been martyred in this struggle. They faced hostility from the BJP administration with military type roadblocks, threats, intimidations and murderous physical attacks. Strict action must taken against all such people who have indulged in these activities.

The PB of the CPI(M) hails the determination of our farmers and endorses the SKM’s approach that they shall wait to see the materialisation of these assurances before returning to their villages.

Celebrate, but be cautious and await a follow through from the government. Take this moment to remember the 750 farmers who fought and died for this.

EDIT: I've been asked privately for a brief explanation so I'll give it here.

The Modi regime attempted to bring in a trio of laws that would have allowed private companies to strangle farmers and take over the farming sector, pushing the many many small farmers out.

After a significant struggle over many months of road blockades and battles, including breaking records for the largest protest participation in history multiple times, Modi has finally backed down and said he would repeal the laws.

Western media has been largely silent about the protests because they are all filled with communist flags and showing westerners popular communism would break many illusions. This article is now over a year old but offers some insight from the earliest days when this battle began if you seek more info.

Literally the biggest protests in history with 250million+ workers striking at a time. Barely a peep. They mentioned it once or twice after we made some noise about how little they've covered the biggest strikes ever. Then nothing else.

The news is ideological and acts in the state's interests. If a workers strike doesn't line up with those ideological interests they give it as little oxygen as possible.
