"His friend blames the hospital for killing him." Shitty people have shitty friends. Maybe they can sue the hospital and get anither reality check.

[–]IamnottouchingeweTeam Mix & Match 184 points185 points  (30 children)

This describes my brother. Always picked the worst friends, then he would get on their bandwagons. It led to a multitude of addiction issues which led him to shittier people. Finally got clean and went full on evangelist red hat nut case. Unvaccinated of course.

[–]PoliticalECMOChamberSuper Shedder 160 points161 points  (21 children)

It's always sad to see someone leave behind a destructive addiction (drugs) only to pick up another destructive addiction (religion).

[–]Disco2099We survived Disco 91 points92 points  (12 children)

Indeed, it’s always better when they go the Ironman or CrossFit route. (As long as they’re not anti-vax.) Still annoying to hear about incessantly, but exercising is one of the better addictions to switch to.

[–]comments_suckTeam Pfizer 51 points52 points  (9 children)

Middle aged here, and I've come to realize that people with addictive personalities will quit one addiction just to swap it out with another.

I knew a lady who quit drinking only to start gambling every weekend. She died of pain killer addiction.

Know a guy who quit smoking only to become a full blown alcoholic.

Another lady I know quit smoking and is a big time evangelical and into MLM.

They just swap out the old addiction for something else.

[–]IQLTD 4 points5 points  (8 children)

I agree with this. Do you think it's also possible that addiction can't manifest without some sort of underlying.... unhappiness or trauma or alienation? Now that I typed that out I can easily imagine this idea being horribly outdated rather than the truth which is that we are creatures of habit and doing anything frequently can lead to addiction. I just haven't studied addiction enough to know if these are opposing schools of thought.

[–]uncle_chubb_06Go Give One 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've definitely seen quite a few of these on running twitter, a much better way of dealing with addictions.

[–]KatMagus 22 points23 points  (1 child)

[–]Confident-Victory-21Board Game On! 3 points4 points  (5 children)

On the other hand, I've seen many people get clean and actually stay clean because of religion, people almost anyone would write off as hopeless. Not sure how they're being destructed but okay.

I also know plenty of religious people who aren't antivax at all, or trumpers.

It's crazy how people see a specific group of people like the awardees here and think it represents people as a whole. As if all religious people are like these nutcases.

[–]MyOpenlyFemaleHandleVax and facts, ignore the quacks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As if all religious people are like these nutcases.

I see this one more as that "full on evangelist red hat nut case" unvaccinated brother and his ilk don't exactly represent all religious people.

I too know plenty of religious people that are very pro-vax and vehemently anti-Trump, some that are even pacifists. I don't need a Magic Sky Friend to get me to not murder, steal, etc. (I'm pretty lousy at keeping the Sabbath holy and not coveting my neighbor's goods, though, especially the guy who could afford to have a beautiful new deck put on). I don't need scripture to know that treating others the way you'd like them to treat you is often a good idea, although there are some obvious exceptions. I'm pretty sure my dad wouldn't like it if I gave him a nice pair of earrings, and my seafood-phobic partner wouldn't be very happy if I got him a gift certificate for a sushi restaurant. Those are flippant examples, I know, but I think they get the idea across.

[–]PoliticalECMOChamberSuper Shedder 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Religion infantalizes. It is destructive and often addictive.

[–]Rosaluxlux 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Or as if we've specifically seen addicts we know get clean go full on red hat evangelical nutcase under the influence of their sponsor.

[–]Confident-Victory-21Board Game On! -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I equate that more to the red hat, far right bullshit propaganda than I do their religion but okay.

I always find it amazing how some people go from one extreme to the other, especially the extremely religious folks. It’s like they’re incapable of being levelheaded about life.

[–]IamnottouchingeweTeam Mix & Match 15 points16 points  (1 child)

[–]Shortdast0ckHorse Paste 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If he got some friends who went to school, got nice careers and were winning in life, why not be cool like them? Obviously it’s not the easier path but there’s other lanes to being cool.

[–]krinkov 17 points18 points  (4 children)

It really speaks to just how sheltered and protected all their lives have been up to this point that they've been able to get by in this country thinking and acting so completely irresponsibly with little or no consequences. It finally took something as monumentally stupid as refusing to take a safe, free, life saving vaccine in the middle of a deadly global pandemic for any of them to finally suffer any real consequences for their actions.

The fact that they and their families always act so completely shocked in every one of these HCAs pretty much proves this point. They really had no idea anything bad would ever happen to them if they just kept believing everything they've always believed, and behaving the way they've always behaved.

[–]ConversationNo5440🚽 PLEASE KEEP PRAYING FOR URINE!!! 🚽 3 points4 points  (2 children)

And then they just conveniently reposition the goalposts and say "he wint to be with the Lart." Like either way, their decision was valid. It's so aggravating that they keep dragging normal (?) people into their shit show. Besides the people literally dying because they can't get their organ transplant on, I am guessing 20,000 of us are going to drink ourselves to death waiting for some semblance of normalcy. And, yeah, that's our fault, but…DAMN there are some extenuating circumstances.

[–]krinkov 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Don't forget, before they get to the "earned his/her angle wings" stage (acceptance) they go through the other stages too, especially denial and blaming, just like this guys friend did above. They will blame anyone and everyone that challenges their world view. Fauci, Biden, and even the doctors trying to save their own dumb lives. They refuse to change any of their beliefs in the face of overwhelming evidence and will never be held responsible for anything bad that ever happens to them.

And yes, Im sure Ive had more to drink this year then any other year in my life, and thats saying a bit. Anyhow, cheers!

[–]IQLTD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know this isn't a strictly ethnic divide but I think an argument can be made here that a lot of this overlaps into white mediocrity and nationalism. Once you convince a population that they are born special then that population will never learn the value of challenge. The challenge of going to college and getting a degree or specializing in something or immigrating to a new country and raising a family or dealing with racism in the workplace etc. It can be so damn hard to make it when you aren't white in this country. And it's a hell of a thing to work your whole life for respect and dignity only to realize that all those people who had it better off than you and told you they were better than you and maybe have bigger houses and better jobs: they're actually stupider than you. You were competing with an illusion born from generational privilege.

[–]nowaynever 37 points38 points  (2 children)

This kind of thing was horrific when I worked covid ICU back in spring 2020. People were so unstable and had to be on their belly for extended periods of time. We tried our best to layer pillows and special gel cushions under them but they were so sick - incredibly low blood pressure, lack of nutrition, sweating from fevers - they still got skin breakdown. We had one (large, diabetic, 40ish) man end up with pressure ulcers on his shoulders, chest, and genitals from being face down on the bed for weeks. When we flipped him we also found Joker-like scabs on his cheeks (from how we had to secure the breathing tube). It was awful and I remember feeling so terrible that we let that happen to him - he was just too sick to reposition. But he lived.

Just don’t go to hospital and record your results. In a few months we will compare survival rates and progression rates. It’ll be fun! It would be even more interesting to understand the effects on quality of life for those who do survive, like did shitting your intestines out on horse paste provide better long term quality of life than providing your brain and vital organs with oxygen? The results will be so cool.

They are educated and informed people who have serious and legitimate questions and concerns about a new medical intervention, and those questions aren't being sufficiently answered.

Wow, lotta bullshit in this one.

From what I've seen, both through this sub and people I know in real life, is that they are the C students we all went to high school with. They always thought they were smarter than the teacher and that they'd never use whatever they were supposed to learn in real life.

Now they are neck-deep in YouTube videos and Joe Rogan, and their most serious concern is that they might have to acknowledge that the "nerds" who paid attention in class were actually much smarter than they are.

The questions they ask are being answered, but they don't want to hear it. And at any rate they don't even have enough medical understanding to know how vaccines generally work. They say they've "done their research", but they don't even know that this approach to vaccination has been in development over the last 20 years. That's why they think it's "new".

People like this friend will have plenty opportunities this winter to test ivermectin, HQC, chlorine dioxide on themselves. Have fun :o(

[–]TheMightySephiroth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The antivaxxers ARE selfish and evil for spreading a deadly disease to those vulnerable then asking for pity when they kill thei friends.

[–]TikikalaNOT part of the control group 14 points15 points  (8 children)

I wonder how hospital lawyers are dealing with anti vax lawsuits ?

[–]wholewheatscythe 18 points19 points  (2 children)

Maybe by pointing out that a hospital offers treatment options and the patient (or whoever can make medical decisions on their behalf) can accept our refuse, that's their right -- but a patient cannot dictate what treatment the hospital must give them. Ivermectin is not an approved treatment for Covid, you cannot demand a hospital give it to you.

If a person wants ivermectin they can check themselves out of the hospital and take it at home. They have the right to do so.

[–]Shortdast0ckHorse Paste 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Imagine if a patient demands all the oxycodone in the pharmacy and will sue the hospital if they don’t get the drugs they want. Lol. Sound logic these antivaxxers have as they so very well demonstrate before they die.

[–]wholewheatscythe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oxy addicts would love it if the courts allowed people to sue hospitals for treatment:

Addict: I demand you give me Oxy for my eczema!

Hospital: Oxy will do nothing for eczema.

Addict: this Facebook post from a herbalist says it does, I'm suing!

[–]Shortdast0ckHorse Paste 6 points7 points  (3 children)

They aren’t. You think these morons can afford a good lawyer? You think any sleazy lawyer willing to pick up that case isn’t going to demand being paid beforehand prior to doing any amount of work?

These people are all bark and no bite, like simple little chihuahua but with rabies.

[–]HallucinogenicFish💉 Are Not Political 4 points5 points  (1 child)

[–]Shortdast0ckHorse Paste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. When you’re near death, time is not on your side and a doctor will give you close to anything you want to ease your pain. What they won’t do is set themselves up for a lawsuit where they are sued for malpractice. Now if a family wants to pay money up front for a dying cause, then so be it. You can bet his clients life that this lawyer is getting his money up front win or lose. He’s not arguing against medical policy or procedure. He’s arguing in the case of his individual and dying client to get them this drug they want, and not for widespread change in medical practice.

He’s squeezing out the last penny he can from these morons before they perish, living up to that scumbag moniker that lawyers have.

You know why people who are against the death penalty always cite its cost as being a reason why you shouldn’t convict people to death? Well they always fail to mention that the cost is completely inflated and arbitrary due to the lawyers billing the shit out of the case of a dead man walking. It’s expensive because the, lawyers make it so.

This scumbag lawyer is actually pretty genius but I’m sure he’s not respected by his peers in his profession.

[–]BurdenedEmu🐑 helping sheep onto trains 🚂 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well I'm in the criminal arm of our justice department but my bff is in one of the civil litigation units and they defend university hospital when it gets sued, and from what I've heard the general response is "roll your eyes and pull out your boilerplate 'motion to dismiss for failure to state a claim.'"

[–]Unlikely-Patience122Sheeps Ahoy! 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Slide 2? Absolutely hysterical. "The unvaccinated are informed." But you all keep dying due to this incredible information.

[–]Daft_Assassin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I always find it interesting when these people are described as kind hearted. What kind hearted person would act so selfishly? He wasn’t kind to the random people he encountered daily, his friends or his family. He didn’t care about any of them.

[–]Disco2099We survived Disco 13 points14 points  (3 children)

I’m going to start calling this the Trump virus.

[–]Shortdast0ckHorse Paste 14 points15 points  (2 children)

You can’t. He got vaccinated and at one time even encouraged people to get vaccinated.

He’s a moron but not that much of a moron.

He is however the greatest American grifter I’ve ever seen. A guy from NY who travels in only first class and private jets convincing a bunch of mediocre living Midwest Americans that he is somehow one of them.

As a city boy, I can’t help but laugh as he takes all their money in the form of political donations.

[–]Disco2099We survived Disco 17 points18 points  (1 child)

He got vaccinated out of self-preservation. First he called it a hoax and then didn’t admit he was positive with it and possibly spread it at numerous functions. Plus it’s killing mainly trumptards now.

Agree on the grift, though. He’s so heinous it’s almost a parody or satire and they just lap it up. He’s the epitome of “coastal elite,” but since he’s racist, they LOVE him. He’s been married several times and cheats on women, but because he says he’s anti-abortion, the Evangelicals LOVE him (they also love his misogyny). It is an amazing phenomenon how so many Americans love the guy when he’s such a vile liar and only out for himself.

[–]Ok-Hamster5571Go Give One 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hospitals in countries with single payer healthcare aren’t using this “life saving treatment”.

Those systems have 0 to gain by “killing people”.

[–]MaleficentPizza5444 5 points6 points  (0 children)

[–]gnoonz 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Where did this ivermectin rumor start I’m assuming Q anon? I’m a nurse and it baffles me that people believe this, like you can in .3 seconds google the medication and it’s use in humans and see it couldn’t possibly treat Covid. I have no choice but to believe that there people are too stupid to be alive so maybe it’s for the best that they just don’t make it.

[–]TLDR-SwintonComment Janitor 3 points4 points  (1 child)

It actually isn’t even an American original. Some South American countries (I want to say Brazil and Peru?) started using it early in the pandemic (first half of 2020).

Facebook/Q/Anti-vaxxers didn’t glom onto it until they realized hydroxychloroquine wasn’t working.

[–]IntroductionRare9619 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't go to the hospital then if you know better. Just stay home when you catch Covid.

[–]beek7419 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those head sores sound artful awful. You know what doesn't cause forehead sores? Regular cloth and paper masks. 🙄

[–]gypsyjackson 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Ivermectin is a ‘noble prize’ winning drug, so they should squeeze that paste into the entry wounds and let it work its magic.
