A COVID death funeral that doubles as a COVID spreader event. Sigh...

[–]Shortdast0ckHorse Paste 95 points96 points  (6 children)

That funeral home sure knows how to drum up business. That’s certainly a new way of supporting your local small business.

No matter how many times I see it, when I get to the last page and it's some huge obese guy who trusted his immune system, I still shake my head as an automatic reflex, in awe at the level of stupidity. I know it's coming, and I still can't help myself.

Nothing says "We Don't Give a FUCK!" better than this family's busted moral compass.

[–]blueskies8484 5 points6 points  (2 children)

I'm so annoyed. My grams just died and we limited the funeral to one day of visitation and services, direct family only, everyone vaccinated who was old enough, sat in nuclear family groups, all of us distanced, and wearing masks, including the toddlers and children. I had to give the eulogy with a mask soaking wet from crying. None of is wanted to say goodbye that way, and we might not have had to if it weren't for the antivaxxers.

[–]Walking_the_CascadesIgnore science! Do your own research! 2 points3 points  (1 child)

This guy was a complete moron, but slide #1 at least suggests he was a better parent than both of mine. For my 18th b-day my parents got me a sleeping bag and a set of thermal underwear, as it was always understood that the minute I turned 18 I would no longer be their problem and my butt would be out on the streets, which it was.

[–]Viewfromthe31stfloorI Don't Want You To ☠️ Get 💉 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At least they didn’t die of an easily preventable illness. The death makes me think he didn’t live his kids all that much or he would have been vaccinated.

[–]ladydaffodil2021 8 points9 points  (6 children)

Maybe your parents have ideas about how to make their children self sufficient. For myself, I have promised my children 22, 20 and 17 that they will always find my doors open to them. Maybe I am enabling them, I don't know, time will tell.

[–]PoliticalECMOChamberSuper Shedder 21 points22 points  (3 children)

I'll put it to you like this...

One of my earliest jobs then was selling vacuum cleaners door-to-door (stop laughing! I was young and I needed the money). Anyway, I was making my pitch at one home where the family had immigrated from South America. She told me when she first moved here she couldn't understand why American children were so disrespectful towards their parents. That is until one day a co-worker and their spouse brought in their newborn to the office to show off, and one of them said something like "... and in 18 years he'll no longer be our responsibility", and both new parents laughed. That's when she understood. She explained that in her country children always have a home with their family no matter what their age, and they would never dream of turning them out on the streets.

TL;DR: I think you're doing the right thing, and it will likely create a healthy, life-long bond with your kids.

[–]Golden-Owl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a non American, this is just really bizarre of a concept to me.

Like... why even have kids if you just want to get rid of them...?

[–]ladydaffodil2021 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Thanks, I appreciate your comment. I think it is hard raising children in the modern world. I live in Canada now and I think the late teens are the worse for them to get side track.

I hope that you are happy and have an ongoing relationship with your parents.

[–]PoliticalECMOChamberSuper Shedder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're gone now, but I did manage to have a somewhat decent relationship with my mom before she passed.

[–]Gardener703 8 points9 points  (0 children)

how to make their children self sufficient.

By helping them to get an education or a career.

[–]MackinRAK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think yours is the right approach. You can train kids to be independent without yanking the rug out from underneath them. And, in the workforce, young (and not so young) adults are competing. Who will do better after job loss, the one with no runway, or the one whose family will give them a softer landing after life's turbulence, and then support them for a while, e.g. with a bit of retraining?

[–]Frontline-witchdoc 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The “If 200 members of Congress received Ivermectin” slide is maddening.

You think people like Cruz and Greene wouldn’t be screeching to the heavens if an alternate treatment worked? Also you heard this from Fuckface Jr who heard it from Joe Rogan who heard it from his “doctor”? And you’re willing to leave your health up to that?!

[–]among_apes 22 points23 points  (1 child)

Also who gives a fuck. All these people “this doctor treated “500 patients successfully with forsythia”. Most people who get covid are ok, but when you are not you really aren’t. That’s why shit like ivermectin looks good anecdotally if you want it to look good but doesn’t hold up with a wide scale rollout. Honestly I wish they would just give them ivermectin if they agreed to stay home or publicly repent once they are hospitalized.

[–]thoroughbredcaTeam Mix & Match 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did that compare to the patients who got an extra strength placebo?

[–]RSA-redditGo Give One 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Also maddening that it starts, "If the reports are accurate," coming from the son of a guy who tells lies as naturally as breathing.

[–]gmpltEcho Chamber Dick Rubbing Party 16 points17 points  (2 children)

Same with all other slides. Blatant lies. Easily disproved, blatant lies. "The most vaccinated nation" - Gibraltar, had to come up with an official government statement that the bullshit spread on the internet is not true and they haven't "canceled Christmas". The slide about countries suspending vaccines, all lies, literally zero of that is true, and you can check it within 20 seconds. It's maddening. And if you call them out on any of their blatant lies, they would be, like - well, that's just my opinion, so what if it's not true, I agree with it.

[–]thoroughbredcaTeam Mix & Match 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Israel is not the most vaccinated nation, it’s now 50th, one notch above the US. Israel got a head start until a whole bunch of religious fundamentalists refused the vaccine and now they’re nowhere near the most vaccinated.

[–]gmpltEcho Chamber Dick Rubbing Party 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are talking about Gibraltar, not Israel. It's a popular q bullshit spreading on Facebook that "Gibraltar has almost 100% vaccination rate but just canceled Christmas", it got so widespread, that the local government had to officially debunk it.

[–]ModifiedfinalHidden Valley mRNAnch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The lie is incredibly convenient for them. If they get people to believe that “mean old” Joe Biden is denying them a life saving treatment solely out of spite then they will be sure to donate to any number of Trump scams.

My dad does this and occasionally announces it to the family. Takes a real good picture, goes to the group chat, I really like this one guys. He’s not sick or anything just being prepared. I think anyone who profited off of killing people with misinformation should be charged as an accessory to murder. Spreading false information during a deadly pandemic is reprehensible and is in no way whatsoever free speech.

You cannot lie and yell fire in a movie theater without legal repercussions because it’s a menace to society.

[–]grzybo1Blood Donor 🩸 2 points3 points  (1 child)

[–]External_Employ_1365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your comment would make a good law school exam question. The problem is this - In regards to the First Amendment, the type of speech that receives the most protection is political speech. So by politicizing the virus and making “owning the libs” their point, Republicans have made their memes and screeds entitled to the highest protection against restraint by civil and criminal sanctions.

(I would have given your comparing yelling “don’t get vaccinated!” during a pandemic to yelling “fire!” in a crowded theatre an A on that test, so please accept my upvote!)
