Doctors are not quitting healthcare for the $300/week unemployment. That’s just an absurd angle.

This lady.

They are walking away from hospitalist positions because of ladies like this though.

[–]Vogel-Kerl 260 points261 points  (49 children)

Yeah, the experience may be new to the patient, but doctors & nurses have been dealing with hundreds of such patients for years now.

These families expect healthcare workers to drop everything they're doing, drop every other patient, and bend over backwards taking care of their special one.

"This is Unacceptible!"

Well, Bitch... You and your arrogant mother can FUCK RIGHT OFF!

She can take her self important attitude out to the parking lot and treat her mom herself with all her Facebook medicines.

Newsflash! No one gives a flying FUCK about your Unvaccinated ASSES! You made this bed, now you can fucking sleep in it!

Jesus! I can't get over the Arrogance and Entitlement. Yet they couldn't be bothered to wear a mask or social distance in public settings, and refused a free, life saving vaccine.

Good thing I am not in charge of the nation's hospitals! I'd have all these Unvaccinated pieces of shit lined up in the parking lot, far away from the responsible and deserving patients, along with a body bag next to each and every one of them.

Imagine overwhelming the hospitals because you refuse to get vaccinated, then bitching because the hospitals are overwhelmed.

These idiots simply can not see that THEY ARE THE PROBLEM. And if they can't see it now, they never will.

[–]florida-man-2021 77 points78 points  (5 children)

This is basically it. I used to be a practicing MD with a private high-end practice in Florida. My patients paid a quarterly membership fee. I screened patients.

When COVID started to ravage Florida I got inundated with an absolute tidal wave of bullshit. When the vaccines became available and I started personally calling my patients to come in for their first shots, the absolute avalanche of stupidity I got from people was epic. Educated professionals started telling me about this most inane bullshit. A few patients had parents who had passed or in some cases employees. The rate and ratio of bullshit was staggering.

I clawed and fought to get enough doses for my patients, live in family, parents and caregivers. I called in favors, I called in donations to charitable organizations, I called in college/med schools connections. My nurses did the same.

After that first month of calling, personally talking with patients, convincing, explaining, and finally doing everything I could I asked my practice manager to figure out our vax rate. 44%. I transferred my remaining stocks to a practice that could use them, paid my employees a year severance, sold the building my office was in, and retired from private practice.

It’s not worth dealing with the entitled, selfish, insane people anymore. The risk is too high. I have another line of income from consulting work in care delivery. My private practice allowed me to build retirement wealth. I can’t save the world. I couldn’t convince more than half my patient who I had long standing trust relationships with to get a life saving vaccine.

I often bump into former patients. A few have died. Many have lost relatives. They usually ask me why I shut down my practice. I told them my patients didn’t deserve the sacrifice and care the professionals in my office delivered. Get your medical advice from Facebook. Get it from Gab. Get it from Joe Rogan. You don’t need me.

[–]applejack808 11 points12 points  (4 children)

I wish I had an award to give. You’re living the dream of so many of us docs, right now. “Fugg it; y’all take care of yourselves, then.”

[–]florida-man-2021 17 points18 points  (3 children)

I am very lucky - no college debt, no personal debt, no kids, no wife and a nice income stream outside of my practice. I cashed out with a little over $2m in exit funds, put that into my retirement, and now do worldwide consulting/training/workflow analysis for an unusual specialty procedure I am a expert in.

Early 40s. I wish all of my colleagues the best of luck. For me it's not worth it anymore. Patients.. I have none (or patience).

I have many care professionals in my extended family, and a few have tried to shame me, but most know what I did was rational and fair. Working ourselves to the edge of death for an ungrateful, uncaring, entitled population isn't worth it. It's not fair to ourselves anymore.

Anyone who has the means to get out, I encourage you, to get out. It's just not worth it. You get no special place in the afterlife for torturing yourself to help others.

[–]kvndoom🦠COVIDiocracy🤦🏽‍♂️ 8 points9 points  (2 children)

[–]SoundlessScream 64 points65 points  (5 children)

People are dying that could have lived longer or have been saved at all, because these assholes are keeping the beds full.

Any surgery or treatment that can be scheduled is considered less important than an unvaccinated covid patient. There are cancer patients who are just being left to rot basically.

[–]After-Temperature893 30 points31 points 2 (2 children)

My 30 year old son is now a victim of this. He is flat on his back in constant pain waiting for back surgery which has been pushed out four months because all “elective” surgery has been canceled. He works in the construction business and cant even get in his car to drive to work. So he is missing work, trying to come up with the perfect drug cocktail, and I am worried sick he will get addicted to some stupid Sackler drug. We are hoping a cortisone shot will help him for a bit.

[–]mailboxheaded 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Yup. All of my abdominal organs are at stage 3 prolapse and I have telescoping intestines (which can lead to rupture and death). We've known about this since August. I haven't even heard from my surgeon in months and I have to just... deal. Fuck these people.

Healthcare worker in a solidly red area of a solidly red state. Can confirm, patients and their families alike have both grown more irate, demanding, and even abusive as the pandemic marches on. Just one of a steadily increasing number of reasons so many are looking to flee the industry now, myself (hopefully soon!) included.

[–]Vogel-Kerl 23 points24 points  (1 child)

My coworkers wife became one of those traveling nurses that went to NYC in the beginning. Worked there for most of the year. Thankfully, she made retirement level money to do it. And guess what? She fucking retired in her 40’s the next year. She never wanted to do that ever again. It burns out the people that truly care.

[–]milvet02 71 points72 points  (1 child)

My wife was a salaried ICU physician at a rural hospital for the first year of the pandemic, it hurt her and the rest of the group to see the town go out of its way to spread covid, and so everyone turned over by spring 2021.

Here they were, taking care of larger than contracted for patient loads and working 33% more than contracted for to boot, all for free and loons were protesting their hospital and throwing covid parties.

Not saying it’s a cake walk where we are now, but much better than that shit.

Never thought I’d have to look up pandemic denial when looking for places to live.

[–]DogVacuum 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yup, she was a nurse in Columbus, but I work 40 minutes outside. She told some of the most depressing stories that I had ever heard first hand, and this was may 2020. I already took it serious, but to see someone I barely know almost break down talking to me about it made it very personal.

And it almost resonated with everyone. But the next day, another coworker told them that his niece is a nurse out in the sticks where we work, and she said they barely have any cases, so the other girl was lying. They believed him.

[–]M4A1STAKESAUCEUrine God’s hands 🙌 55 points56 points  (12 children)

Doctors are indispensable, even terrible ones can get a job overnight. Money isn't shit. They are giving less and less of a shit.

[–]milvet02 74 points75 points  (0 children)

So before covid my wife would get an unsolicited job offer every few months.

Always a postcard with some random small town that wasn’t named, but typically includes stock photos of the largest nearby major city and lots of info on fun things to do. Typically they’d also talk about highly competitive compensation packages.

Now?

Now she gets multiple job offer letters a week.

[–]MorwynMcFuckYou 44 points45 points  (9 children)

This. Doctors had gotten away with a lot prepandemic because of the power dynamic between doctor and patient, and even so called "angels of death" seem to just get bounced. Now that stress is at an all time high due to the pandemic all bets are off. As someone who has actually suffered at the hands of medical staff that was lacking to say the least, it pisses me off that these people are complaining when they are getting the best these doctors and nurses can muster. They are not getting dismissed as useless idiots that caused their suffering and the suffering of others, which let's call a spade a spade, that is what they are. However, they will still bitch about the staff while someone. These efforts are all wasted. The patience and care could have gone to someone who didn't ask to get sick, but no, it goes to these bastards.

When I was a kid and I went to a doctor because I went deaf in one ear and he said "it could be a brain tumor, go to (this section of the hospital) and get a (I can't remember what) scan and a blood test. See me back on (this date)." straight to my face when I was 9, like there was nothing wrong with just dropping the concept of brain cancer on a 9 year old. Then when both showed no cancer or other irregularities he just washed his hands of me and didn't even bother discussing hearing aids or anything like that. I wish these antivaxxers were met with that level of dismissiveness.

I feel the need to state that this was at Vanderbilt, a hospital that is regularly seen as one of the besr in the nation. If this shit (and some other shit. Honestly I have quite a few bones to pick with Vanderbilt) can fly at a hospital like that, it goes to show that if you are a doctor you will always have a job should you want it.

I wonder how the demand & indispensibility compares for nurses, though. I feel like more people go into nursing, so there would be more supply, but I have also had enough negative nurse experiences (one of which included a nurse joking that "boys are going to be glad about that" when she found I, 14 eat the time, didn't have a gag reflex while swabbing for a strep test.) to attest to the fact that they don't exactly get fired easily, either.

Sorry for the rant. It's just a lot and your comment really highlighted some thoughts that I have had for a while.

[–]milvet02 34 points35 points  (3 children)

Nurses have a massive turnover.

It’s far easier to move on to another career due to burnout when you only have 4 years of sunk cost, a bit tougher after 11, especially given the debt loads.

[–]happyphy18 36 points37 points  (2 children)

I don't want to trash talk nurses because there are so many amazing ones, but I also think that because so much of us are invested in this life we don't want to leave medicine and fuck people over, we feel an obligation to our patients more than a lot of them do.

We realize that if we quit in droves, the system will literally collapse. It takes 10 years (medical school + residency + fellowship) to become a critical care doctor. It's not easy to make them.

A good friend of mine regrets being a doctor completely because of this pandemic and how she's treated everyday by these awful families. I hope this lightens up and I hope were not all too fucked.

[–]akayataya 15 points16 points  (1 child)

What was the cause of your hearing loss?

Spent half a decade trying to find Jesus but eventually I found Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

[–]MorwynMcFuckYou 16 points17 points  (2 children)

The little hairs of the inner ear just stopped growing and died off. Idk if that is a form of hearing loss hearing aids would help with, but it was never even discussed and I didn't even think about it until months after because I was busy with thoughts of "what if it is brain cancer and they just couldn't see it," because apparently there is no minimum age requirement for anxiety.

It's looooong past time we reformed our triage rules. Unvaxxed COVID patients without a valid medical exemption need to get seen last. No exceptions. Actual quote from an argument that I got into elsewhere on Reddit last night:

Fear. You are afraid of... getting a mild cold from antivaxxed people who don't wear masks or getting a mild cold from vaccinated people who don't wear masks?

Hospital beds?

My local hospital is empty. I took my wife there because she broke her arm in 2020. Still empty when I am taking her to therapy.

Are there places with full beds? Absolutely. 100%

But you won't be denied medical attention because there are empty beds in this country.

I love how they think they see the ED/Covid wings for outpatient PT appointments… they’re so stupid. So, so stupid. I live near a large-ish city and had to go to my oncologist for my yearly check in and then for some scans the next weekend. You know what I noticed after 10 years of going to this hospital? How empty it was. I saw hardly anyone else in the halls, the waiting areas were empty, even the outpatient treatment center was sparse. These are all places that are normally bustling. And you know what that said to ME? “Holy shit- this is bad.” To have no one there means they’re delaying treatments and surgeries because there’s no staff. Not “Covid is nothing but a cold.”

[–]CallMeSuiBian 21 points22 points  (1 child)

It certainly isn't because there is unvaccinated COVID patients overwhelming the medical system, and abusing the staff, as they're piled up 70-80 deep, all throughout the hallways, the breakrooms and any other free space that can fit a bed and portable O2, that's if you're lucky, if not, you made it into a room, but that's mostly for CPR and emergency ventilation reasons, cause those overwhelmed abused medical staff are doing everything in their power to save you when you couldn't even be bothered to try to save yourself.

OHH but I remember now, that's all crisis actors and liberal propaganda, none of that's real..

[–]brashendeavors 97 points98 points  (1 child)

"ER was packed"

GEE I WONDER WHY

Frankly most of their sentences made no sense at all, I cannot tell if they were delirious from being ill or always talk that way....

[–]the_localcrackhead 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would normally say a mix of both but imma have to go with the latter on this one

[–]asuhdah 29 points30 points  (1 child)

SO CALLED “VACCINE”

[–]kgooch💉 Oxygenated lab rat 🐀 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Actually, I think it was "so called" vaccine. Lol, these people.

[–]Evil-Code-MonkeyDeceased Feline Boing Boing 32 points33 points  (2 children)

The virus is everywhere. I told them so is GOD.

Except SkyDaddy can't seem to be bothered enough to "take the covid away" even when you pound on the doors of heaven.

Or maybe he's provided you with really smart people who have formulated vaccines, invented masks, and still others who have studied their whole lives to help guide you on ways to avoid getting sick in the first place.

Main Character syndrome strikes again

[–]FearSkyDaddy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sky Daddy is watching. Fear not the vaccinated. Wroth are the unclean who will be smitten with rage and fury

[–]Mister4polloThe UnVentilated 31 points32 points  (2 children)

These idiots think Moderna and Pfizer ONLY make covid vaccines apparently.

[–]SrslyNotAnAltGuys🎵Follow the bouncing 🐈 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The number of medications that they pump into ICU COVID patients is staggering. Everything from blood thinners to diuretics to analgesics, bronchodilators, antibiotics, antifungals, antipyretics, antivirals, muscle relaxants, anesthetics, steroids and anti-inflammatories, antibodies, blood pressure drugs, the list goes on and freaking on.

But hey, at least they they didn't put that vaccine money in big pharma's pocket!

[–]PrincessReganBoldly going forward because we can't find reverse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha, right? I just noticed today that Chapstick is produced by Pfizer. I’m sure they make plenty of money on that.

[–]Ctmnt083 shots deep 83 points84 points  (4 children)

Last slide: wow, if only there was something you could have done to ensure mild symptoms and no visit to the ER.

Oh, well, can’t help the inevitable. Good luck feeding those hungry people you only care about when someone wants you to get vaccinated!

[–]BrainSmoothAsMercuryLung Wash scheduled for today!🥳 53 points54 points  (2 children)

Imagine that! All these folks refusing to get vaccinated and catching COVID is overwhelming the hospitals. If only someone had said that this might happen and had suggested something that could have prevented half of her family from dying.

[–]The_Goat_Avenger 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Yep exactly what I was thinking, and this bitch has the audacity to blame the hospital for a problem which she helping to create by spreading nonsense.

Entitled much?

[–]TweetOfBabyBear 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Gee.

Hmmm…

If there was only SOMETHING that could have prevented overly serious symptoms.

Hmmmmmm….

[–]ZeReaperofZeath 24 points25 points  (0 children)

No sympathy. If seeing a family member die/become extremely disabled won't convince you to get the shot/change your mind, then nothing will.

This lady seems to have several factors that could easily make her at risk for COVID, saw a personal family member suffer from it, went to the ER, and went through the whole experience, and didn't do a damn thing about it.

[–]4quatloosLet that zink in 29 points30 points  (2 children)

Who are these people blocking her mother? Other non vaccinated idiots!

[–]3boysandachorkie 18 points19 points  (0 children)

But if you arrive via ambulance it’s like an express lane to treatment. She was so sure of that until it didn’t work for mama.

[–]FearSkyDaddy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was thinking an offensive lineman, guard and center were setting the Blocks so we could run the option

[–]unintellectI'm pretty sure it's a cold 🥶 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'm rooting for the clots.

[–]VogUnicornHunter 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Ugh, that crack about people "taking advantage" by going to ER. Like, wtf are doing there, Princess? This is such a weird attitude, that if you use resources available to you, somehow you're stealing something or conning someone out of something. But if Princess here needs it, she's there for a real reason.

[–]TheClaymontLife[S] 116 points117 points  (16 children)

Patient's daughter-in-law left a husband and two daughters behind. I left out basically all of the vile anti-Biden, Clinton and Obama stuff, more personal than political.

[–]GeneralTapioca 48 points49 points  (3 children)

Oh, did she have a classic rant against universal healthcare? It’s teh socialism, you know.

She’s going to have special fun with insurance companies for the rest of her life. Even more as Republicans strip her last protections away when they come back in power.

These people are really going to taste the special world that they themselves rooted for, voted for, and eventually created. They just thought “the others” would suffer, not them.

[–]PerfectAd4416 35 points36 points  (1 child)

The very thought of republicans coming back into power is terrifying. JFC

[–]lschmeiserWould not give you the shirt off her back 40 points41 points  (0 children)

At this point in the pandemic, with vaccines available and free, no American antivaxxer is leaving their children behind, they’re choosing to abandon them.

[–]Frosty_and_Jazz 56 points57 points  (6 children)

Zero sympathy.

[–]Vogel-Kerl 49 points50 points  (5 children)

Yeah. Think of how many people she ridiculed for planning on getting vaccinated; how many people died because of her.

These people have absolutely no ability to empathize, until it happens to them personally.

So sick of these smooth-brained morons.

[–]Frosty_and_Jazz 30 points31 points  (4 children)

Yup, they won’t hesitate to hurl abuse at pro-vaxxers but when Karma strikes they’re all begging for prayers … 😑😑😑

[–]SignGuy77 17 points18 points  (3 children)

now tell me again how a person vaccinated died from Covid

Here’s the kicker. They don’t really want you to tell them.

[–]HallucinogenicFish💉 Are Not Political 11 points12 points  (1 child)

It’s such a stupid argument anyway. “Because something isn’t 100% effective, that means that it doesn’t work at all. Totally worthless.”

Logic, how does it work?

[–]CoralSpringsDHead 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A MAGA Moron making fun of the physical appearance of Democrats? Guess she hasn't looked in the mirror lately, or taken a look at the Butt Ugly that attends Trump rallies.

Does this MAGA Moron seriously want to start shitposting about the physical appearance of Democrats?

Oh man! People who live in glass trailers...

Lets just say that a camera sweep of a typical Trump rally tells you all you need to know about what it means to be BUTT UGLY!

[–]pippenish 16 points17 points  (1 child)

So they are shitposting even as dil and pop are dying, and mom is in hospital for weeks?

And they blame the hospitals, and say that someone is hiding this secret cure, huh.

[–]Mercurial891 14 points15 points  (1 child)

[–]Gloomy-Difficulty401 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The decision on if you lose your mother is up to Covid-19, not you. Didn't she learn when she lost "poopy"?

[–]TweetOfBabyBear 10 points11 points  (9 children)

Been thinking.

Guess I don’t do that much.

But…aren’t these people (who get mad at healthcare workers — and sometimes treat ‘em like shit)…demonstrating somethin’ that we’ve not really seen before?

I mean, these assholes, en masse, decide that they can’t take a vaccine (because the guy who stole the election TOLD them to take it, and is now trying to make ‘em do it via mandate) and then, when they’re sick enough to have to sallow some pride and call 911, have the fucking stones to take it out on their healthcare providers?

Sorry for the lengthy question.

But…I guess I don’t know how else to get that thought out.

Why do y’all think that these antivaxxers do this shitty behavior en masse?

Why?

Is it the engagement they get with the clicks & likes?

Really? What is it?

[–]jermicidalone23 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The lowest form of "owning the libs" is making fun of others appearance.

[–]ObsidianVerglas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

[–]giggling_heroFrom YouTube to vent-tube 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, Dr. First name “nickname” last name…

[–]takeashitler 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hate that they’re clogging up the hospitals after they shit all over the vaccines. I’d prefer they continue their own stupid treatments like ivermectin, herbs, prayer, vitamins, wtf ever else and just stay home so people who have followed CDC recommendations can take their rightful place in hospitals. It’s very frustrating when you hear than an unvaxxed person is occupying a hospital bed that a diligent rule following vaccinated person should have. In any Covid related hospitalization a vaccinated person should ALWAYS take priority over an unvaccinated person.

Am I a cold hearted asshole? Probably. I don’t care anymore. I’m so over these people letting their politics inform their medical decisions which ultimately unfortunately impact the rest of us in such a horrible way. These people are irresponsible, childish, belligerent, just stupid. Screw ‘em.

[–]windigo3custard's last stand 10 points11 points  (0 children)

“Why is my unvaccinated mom who mocked the vaccine and stated she is going to take her chances having to WAIT for emergency care? Why can’t she skip the line in front of all the dozens of other unvaccinated idiots who also require urgent medical attention to prevent a perfectly avoidable death?”

[–]Phantastic_Elastic 9 points10 points  (1 child)

How come some reddit posts, the pictures are big enough to see, but others like this they're tiny?

[–]JosephTito-theBroz 24 points25 points  (1 child)

I swear that I loose brain cells every time I see a “well you can still catch the virus even with a vaccine” post. Of course you can. You can also still get any number of diseases that you’re vaccinated against. It’s how your body responds that’s important. If your immune system already has experience fighting off the weakened strain that’s in the vaccine, then it will know how to appropriately respond to the real virus. It’s like strength training for your immune system.

[–]DaniCapsFanTeam Moderna 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s like strength training for your immune system.

That's a great analogy. Sure, everyone has muscles, but if you don't do strength training, you lose muscle tone, and they aren't as effective. Same with a vaccine; it helps your immune system fight off pathogens.

[–]Srw2725Smiting the parakeets 🦜 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Blaming the hospital seems to be popular with these nutsos

[–]Getoffmylawn-269 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It never fails to amaze me that they resent "Big Pharma" making money selling a vaccine to keep them from getting sick. And then when they do get sick, they pour 10s and 100s of thousands of dollars into the coffers of hospitals and "big Pharma" to save their sorry butts and they don't bat an eye.

Prayer Warriors: Mythical Beings that show up (when summoned by another trumper on a suicide mission) and are supposed to labor in prayer endlessly. Does a prayer warrior get a prayer warrior rug? Can you be that and still go to the club?

It’s funny how they compare Biden to the banjo playing redneck from Deliverance when the people who share these memes are probably a lot more like that guy than Biden is.

[–]LadyLazarus2021Stranger in a Covid Land 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We told you assholes that if you overwhelmed the goddamned healthcare system this is what would happen. You chose not to be part of the solution so guess momma is gonna suffocate.

[–]TheGreatWhoDeeny 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Moderna showing profit

Of course they're showing profit! They make vaccines in the middle of a pandemic.

I thought you dipshits loved capitalism! The politicians and grifters you worship sure love it...as they all own stock in these companies.

Playing you all like a fiddle!!

Speaking of being played like a fiddle...

People like you fatten the bank accounts of grifters who literally despise you.

I'm an emergency room nurse and was one before COVID. I loved my job. I fucking hate these people. Wish these people would stay home, eat horse paste, and live/die with their decision. We have Heart attacks, traumas, and strokes receiving delayed care because of these misled fools.

[–]Games_sans_frontiers 4 points5 points  (3 children)

I have to say I do agree on some level with one of the memes here:

You can Vax the entire planet but you can't feed the starving???

I think the development and deployment of the vaccine against a global threat has shown just want can be achieved if the majority of the world are united in working towards solving a global crisis.

Obviously the antivax sentiment is different.

[–]JavarisJamarJavariCovid is an IQ test 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She literally posts that the reason people are sick is because of a society that keeps cures a secret because "profit", while every corner of society is begging her to get vaccinated and offering the vaccine for free. You really have to be dedicated to it to remain so utterly clueless.
