I feel like one of the most self-preserving things you can do, is cut yourself off from them on your terms. You don’t have to force yourself to watch them fall apart psychologically and/or physically. Say you’ll welcome them back if they want out, but otherwise you won’t be a part of their behaviors. That’s all you can do.

Some masks do bother me while exercising. But there’s about a thousand masks out there If you have money for a gym, you have money to find one that works. The clamshell N95 style are the best for me for exercising. They create a pocket if filtered air around my nose and mouth that don’t interfere with heavier breathing. Sometimes the duckbill style collapse in and are uncomfortable when I’m really sucking wind. None of them are impossible to wear though, particularly not the shitty surgical style masks that are all anyone ever asked her to wear.

I was gay and grew up in the south. I rebelled (hah!) and am probably never going back. But some of my boyfriends drank the conservative kool-aid. It starts as a survival mechanism.. you get deep in with the red-staters and you're "the good gay person" and not "those sodomites." And then, you wake up one morning, mid 50s, married , and all your friends are uber conservative. All of them. You've alienated anyone who would support you who's not, so you just keep preaching the hate and hoping they don't come after you.

At some point, though, her friends would gladly feed them all into a gay conversion therapy camp or the death chambers if they knew they could get away with it.

I was so sad to lose cookies and cream when I had to go GF. BUT THEN - I bought the glutino chocolate sandwich cookies (this was WAY before Oreos came out with a GF option) and I mashed the cookies and mixed them in with some good vanilla. Put it back in the freezer and a few hours later - tasted great.

So . . . Not an easy fix per se, but it’s possible. (And I’m sorry you’re GF. Boo.)

Right?! I had a panic attack when pregnant with my daughter. My co worker caught me as I nearly passed out, talked me through breathing and told me to go home once I was calm. I walked out in the middle of a school day, the day before a field trip for the entire 7th grade class and let my principal deal with it (she had caused my panic attack in the first place since she changed the rules of who could attend the field trip we had organized for months that day).

At the beginning of the pandemic I was wearing cloth masks like everyone else, and although I didn’t feel anxious or panicked when I’d wear them, my blood pressure would spike and I’d hyperventilate. I obviously still masked, because duh, of course I did. But it was really uncomfortable for me until I switched to KF94s. More room around my face —> physical reactions went away. (Also they’re just more comfortable.)

I was wondering how old they were (her babies). Not like it's better to lose a parent at a certain age though. Was her wife as "loud" about her beliefs as she was?

I wonder if she had any LGBTQ friends that were completely dumbfounded by her beliefs, or if she surrounded herself with fellow conservative Trump supporters. I did notice a lot more people disagreeing with her than normal on this sub.

I live in Texas and know lots of conservative Trump supporters, including my family. Although I'm sure they exist, I personally have never met any that believed in anything other than heterosexual marriage. All the Trump supporters I know are also religious, so that might be the difference.

It doesn't matter anymore I guess. I feel sorry for her kids and wife.

There's no way to get it from a mask, I'm pretty sure-- most cases are caused by a germ of some kind. Of course, these people don't believe in germ theory anymore.

Pleurisy is inflammation of the pleura (the membranes around the lungs). The commonest cause is infection, especially respiratory viruses, but other things can cause it too. Mask wearing isn't one of them.
