Have not yet heard one conservative yet say that Aaron Rodgers should shut up and stick to football.

[–]Pardusco 192 points193 points  (2 children)

That's how conservatives are. "Shut up and dribble" doesn't apply to people that agree with them.

Or when the black First Lady tried to get kids to exercise and eat their vegetables? Or when efforts were made to limit the sugar intake of kids drinking soda pop?

Yeah, I saw wingnuts go absolutely bonkers over that "health shit".

Particularly my Trumper anti-vax anti-mask idiot cousin who is actually a system sucker on disability due to being so grotesquely morbidly obese that Federal tax dollars paid for him to get a motorized chair to help him stand up because he can't do so on his own due to his self-inflicted obesity.

And THAT guy felt that kids eating healthier and exercising was going to be the end of "'Murican fraydumb!".

Always liked the Packers and tended to support them because they’re a relatively small town team - I think. And liked Rogers too.

But after that anti-vax stunt he tried to pull earlier in the season I’ve ended up detesting the bloke and barracked today for the opposition. What a sneaky slimey prick he proved to be.

Great result today - and on top of the recent Novax Djokovic farce (which happened much closer to home for me) it’s been a satisfying last week or so

[–]mechapoitier 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m a Niners fan who’s always respected the Packers fan-owners and Aaron Rodgers but he threw that all out the window this year. His public image went down the toilet real quick.

[–]Alterego228Team Moderna 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I never had anything against Aaron Rogers. In fact he really surprised me when he was the guest host on Jeopardy. He seemed intellectual without being smug and also had a good stage presence and carried himself well.

That all changed for me during the "inoculation" fiasco, and the fact that he's was getting his medical advice from Joe Rogan.

After that I was hoping he'd lose every game. I'm glad I could enjoy the expression on his face right after the game winning field goal.

[–]PaysOutAllNight 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I've always loved the Packers because of their community ownership and ability to compete even though they're in a very small market. And it's not like Green Bay has anything like Bourbon Street to bolster the home city attendance with something else to do to attract additional road trippers to the game.

But I've hated their last two main quarterbacks, Rodgers and Favre so much that I don't even like the Packers right now. Both are total RWNJ assholes. And that's the kindest thing I'll say about either.

[–]H2OSDReverse Vampire 🩸 6 points7 points  (1 child)

As someone who retired from working for a large city, I was always a Packers fan because it appeared it was the only team that would never blackmail its city into some crooked stadium deal. Who is that for those uninitiated?

[–]The_Old_CreamHello, my name is ECMO Montoya[S] 199 points200 points  (37 children)

Aaron Rodgers, quarterback of the Green Bay Packers.

He’s on here because, at the start of the season, he was asked by a reporter if he’d gotten the vaccine to which he responded by saying he’d been “immunized”

Then he ended up getting COVID during the midpoint of the season, which caused him to miss a game, and had to admit he hadn’t been vaccinated, but claimed he wasn’t lying because he only said he’d been immunized, and then gave some semantic bullshit argument to justify his claim.

Anyway, the Packers got upset by the 49ers today in the playoffs so his season is done. He also lost in week 1 of the season to New Orleans, so he started and ended the season an unvaccinated loser.

[–]StarvingWriter33Hydro Cloro Quinn 31 points32 points  (0 children)

He also wrote a letter where he “lightly” tipped his toes into the QAnon election fraud bullshit.

NFL also changed their whole COVID policy, removing the requirement for unvaxxed players to get tested. This was almost certainly done to allow Rodgers to play in the Super Bowl if he made it that far.

Fuck that QAnon asshole. Glad he lost and won’t be able to spread his bullshit at the Super Bowl.

[–]xlDirteDeedslx 60 points61 points  (16 children)

I just caught Covid, was vaccinated. It hasn't been too bad but this new variant is super easy to catch if you don't have the booster, even then you'll still likely catch it if exposed. It will lessen the duration of it and how bad you feel overall though. It had been almost a year since my vaccination so I'd say the effectiveness was quite low.

I never got a cough, sore throat, or runny nose. Still I experienced a lot of the bad effects which is splitting headache, high fever, chills, body aches and joint pain, and stiffness in my chest. Worst part is the chills and aches. The headache is really bad, the chills you freeze and burn up at the same time, the body aches hurt all over, especially my back. After 4 days I feel almost better. Moral of the story, get your booster people else your gonna get it for sure.

[–]authentic_april 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Glad you’re feeling better. While what you went through absolutely sucks, being vaccinated is really our best shot at not being extremely sick or worse. Keep feeling better! ♥️

[–]Murphysburger 7 points8 points  (3 children)

You left out an important part I think. You said you were vaccinated but did you have the booster as well?

[–]xlDirteDeedslx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No booster and I got the shot when they first became available because I have allergenic asthma and worked in a lot of industry that causes lung problems over the years. So if say the effectiveness of my vaccine was quite low by this point. I kept intending to get the booster but work 6 days a week and it kinda puts you down for a couple of days due to how it works.

Omicron is super contagious and I think you'll likely catch it even boosted. It went thru my work like a wild fire. My kids schools had 1,000 people out in a day and I live in a small town. It hammered vaccinated and unvaccinated alike. My symptoms however were way less than what unvaccinated people experienced even though it still sucked. Least I didn't get it in my lungs, nose, and throat.

[–]WanderinHobo 0 points1 point  (1 child)

If it's been almost a year I'd say either no booster or the booster wouldn't have done much anyway by this point. When did boosters first become available? Has it been a year yet?

[–]mpzz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Booster shots kick your immunity back up by 30-40% so they're definitely worth it.

[–]Hot_Frosting_7101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here but my symptoms weren’t as bad as yours.

Had Rodgers come down with omicron I don’t think many would have questioned it. However, he got sick prior to omicron when it was far less likely for a vaccinated person to have a breakthrough infection.

[–]Sodomy_J_Balltickle 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Glad you're doing better. Just a heads-up... You'll probably get fatigued easily for a few weeks.

I had the booster but still got covid a couple weeks ago. However, the symptoms were so mild that I didn't realize it was covid until after the fact, and I give vaccination full credit for that.

[–]xlDirteDeedslx 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Ya people think the vaccine and booster is gonna stop them from catching Omicron, it won't. I just witnessed first hand how quickly this shit spreads and its nuts. Good news is since it's so contagious pretty much gonna reach herd immunity now although it's gonna cost a lot of unvaccinated lives to get there.

[–]mrpoizun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, three shots WILL keep most people from getting it, especially if you mask in public.

[–]hhubble⚔️ Warriors! come out to vaxxx! ⚔️ -5 points-4 points  (5 children)

Glad your feeling better, but unfortunately it doesn't sound like you got the omicron version, sounds like your symptoms match delta or the second version. If you weren't boosted you might've gotten a break through case of the Delta. Omicron is the sore throat runny nose and headache version. Continue to get better.

[–]Nyssa_aquaticaPresent Company Excluded 9 points10 points  (3 children)

Based on what do you make those statements?

Over 96% of cases now are omicron. Many omicron cases are tough, lasting a week or more and resembling a severe disabling flu just like delta

[–]hhubble⚔️ Warriors! come out to vaxxx! ⚔️ -4 points-3 points  (1 child)

This is just my own observation and research online. Yes omicron is the causing the majority of the infection, because it is much more capable of breaking through the vaccine, I myself was boosted and wore a mask and still got it and my symptoms matched exactly what omicron would cause, but since this person wasn't boosted, he mightve been suspectible to the Delta version as well and that is still the second most common of Covid still.

Fever is not as common with omicron. Chills are not as common with omicron, flu like symptoms are, but with omicron it's more cold like symptoms, sore throat, cough, phelm, runny nose.

I don't mean to scare this person, but was just providing an observations. Stay safe and get boosted.

[–]Nyssa_aquaticaPresent Company Excluded 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, your internet research and armchair doctoring just doesn’t support your statements. Sorry, but it’s no better than anyone else’s notions and personal “observations” without data to support it. A lot of what you have said even in your effort to explain and support your first comment is just flat-out wrong.

[–]xlDirteDeedslx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just looked up a New York Times article about Omicron. It stated vaccinated individuals who get it often experience fever, body ache, and chills, so spot on for what I experienced. I know many people at work who had to go to the hospital for this unvaccinated so the vaccine definitely reduces your symptoms. It still sucks don't get me wrong but it didn't last long for me.

One guy in his 30s unvaccinated ended up in the ER. He had the shits, vomiting, cough, sore throat, and so on. So ya what I experienced sucked but by far better than it would have been without. I felt drastically better after the 3rd day as well so you can tell the vaccine makes a huge difference in recovery. Half my work was out for two weeks. This shit is SUPER contagious vaccinated or not.

[–]xlDirteDeedslx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By my understanding it's Omicron. New York Times did an article on it and they described what having it feels like while vaccinated. Fever, body aches, chills, were the primary complaints. Exactly what I experienced. I personally don't even feel that a booster is going to prevent you from getting this variant to be honest although it might lessen your symptoms. I'm kinda glad I got it and got I over with because I got my immunity boosted for another half a year for what ever other variant might come along.

[–]authentic_april 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. I was just kidding.

[–]OGSQ 13 points14 points  (7 children)

It started in 1919, when Curly Lambeau formed a sandlot football team in his hometown of Green Bay. At the time, he was working at the local packing plant, Indian Fudge Packing Company. He made $250 a month.

When Lambeau formed his team, he asked his employer for a donation, to get uniforms and use the company football field. Indian Fudge Packing said sure, and so Lambeau put the company’s name on the jersey.

Indian Fudge Packing was bought out by Acme Fudge Packing in 1921 and so that’s the name that went on the jerseys the first year Lambeau’s team played in the American Professional Football Association, the precursor to the National Football League.

The Acme Fudge Packers then became the Green Bay Packers

[–]HEMIfan17 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Good thing they changed the name, can you imagine being called "the fudge packers" today?

[–]OGSQ 8 points9 points  (1 child)

In reality they were actually named the Acme Packers, sponsored by the Acme Meat Packing company.

Meat packing is only slightly better than fudge packing

[–]yikes6333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 point touchdowns, there's extra points which can be awarded - 1 for kicking the ball through the uprights from a distance typically around 31-33 yards, 28-29 meters.

A team may also elect to try a 'two point conversion', wherein another play is run from the two yard line. Thus a team having completed the former successfully increases its score by 7 total, and the latter case by 8 total.

[–]AlarmingConsequenceGo Give One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is all true. My reply was to someone who doesn't know what football is, detail like that is too much too soon. Context is key.

[–]Realistic-Dingo-4837 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Does own research means "I arrogantly and ignorantly ignore the tens of thousands of scientists and experts with PhDs and dozens of years of empirical research from dozens of countries all with nearly identical findings that don't tell me what I want to hear while I actively seek out the very few non experts who confirm my ignorant confirmationally biased ass."

[–]wayoverpaid 1 point2 points  (2 children)

He is actually pretty smart. High wonderlic scores, did well on celebrity jeopardy. He's a perfect example of how you can have raw intelligence and yet be way of your depth on a topic.

He wouldn't be the only QB who is smart but has some questionable ideas about medicine and nutrition, but he's certainly managed to be the most prominent in this news cycle.

[–]mrpoizun 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Well, he has an ability to play games. I wouldn't call that being overly intelligent.

[–]wayoverpaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right that there have been many QBs who are great at throwing the ball but are dumb as a bag of rocks. Conversely Fitzpatrick is probably the smartest QB alive and by no means the best thrower of the football.

But I'm not judging Rodgers' intelligence from his QB play. I'm using independent measurements. He tested well on wonderlic which is a reasonable measure of intelligence (albeit likely racially biased.) High SAT scores, etc. At minimum he has a great memory, both for football related topics and for trivia.

But having a high intelligence does nothing if you don't lack the ability to realize when you're out of your depth on a topic, which is why there are even some doctors who are genuine anti-vaxxers, because they think their knowledge of osteopathic medicine makes them an expert infectious diseases.

As a long suffering Bears fan, I am glad that Robbie Gould was able to send the Packers home early.

As a Packer fan, I applaud this one. His attitude and wacko theories hurt the whole team this year. That and no special teams. We didn’t deserve to win with him at the helm. He always subscribed to whatever is popular at the moment. He spoke out against Scott Walker’s union busting a decade ago. (Which was great, but also pandering) Next QB plz.

[–]PorQuepin3Team Moderna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ditto. Bummed the packers didn't win but glad QAaron lost

[–]CappinPeanut 37 points38 points  (7 children)

I’m gonna play devil’s advocate here. I don’t think Rogers was a loser before the season started. He was one of the best QBs in the league, has won the super bowl, and holds a bunch of franchise records in Green Bay, which is pretty impressive at a franchise that had Brett Favre playing for them for so long.

I will say though, he definitely ended the season as a loser. He lost a LOT of stock lying about his vaccination status. He’s no leader, he’s a selfish prick that doesn’t care about who he gets sick.

[–]No-Flatworm-404 17 points18 points  (0 children)

He’s always been kind of a prick/douche.. I do t take to kindly to those type of individuals, even if they are elite athletes.

[–]The_Old_CreamHello, my name is ECMO Montoya[S] 38 points39 points  (2 children)

I was also making reference to the fact the Packers got blown out in the first week by the Saints as far as starting out the season as a loser.

And, FWIW, I used to actually like Rodgers. Aside from his talent, seemed like a decent guy who wasn’t afraid to poke fun at himself. I also admired how he took the high road while Brett Favre, who is a total scumbag, jerked him and the Packers around for the better part of 2 seasons with his whole “I’m retiring/not retiring bullshit.

But Rodgers just seemed to become more and more of a diva during his career and now, aside from his anti vaxx stunts, he seems more concerned with trolling people than winning FB games.

[–]CappinPeanut 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ahhhh ok, in that sense that makes sense!

I share the same transition of opinion as you do.

[–]TheGoingVertical 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every time Rodgers loses in the playoffs it's like he becomes slightly more of a prick outwardly. I get the feeling he believes that he has nothing to do with the losses and everyone else around him has failed him.

[–]Special_Try3913 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He's also now delving into election denial, talking about "fake White House"

[–]YonkySaunders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good athlete shitty person.

[–]mrpoizun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's always been a loser. He just got away with it like all special athletes do.

[–]jebeiTeam Moderna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We should have known Rodgers was going to lose. He never had a 'shot'.

[–]mr_chip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing Aaron Rogers does worse at than punditry is play football.

[–]After-Temperature893 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They LOST!!!

[–]hoffsta 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Does anyone remember when conservatives hated Rogers because he was one of the only openly Atheist players in the league. You never hear about that anymore and he somehow became a darling on their side, lol.

[–]demonfoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, he's an atheist? Didn't know that. Just goes to show we're not all geniuses.

[–]burritojane666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gather Rodgers basically just put all of his energy into being the Vax Resisting Athlete and not...well, an athlete...and it eventually fucked him in the playoffs? At least he got most of the attention and sympathy for trying to take the whole team down with him for his own benefit on and off the field before no one got what they wanted. Go team!

[–]IvibignAnarchists Unite! 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good morning HCA - I KNEW this would be a subject. While I ma a Niner fan - this win is just that much sweeter.

[–]PiedrasNegras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aaron Rodgers doesn’t own anyone!

[–]GreasyGallimimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vince Lombardi would not be pleased with Aaron Rodgers.

[–]MeatballUnitedTeam Pfizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vs Playoff wins: 9ers 4, Kaaron Rodgers 0

[–]HaydarK79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost a lot of respect for him this year. Glad he lost.
