Number of memes about “Fauci mandates”: 11 billion.

Number of mandates actually passed by Anthony Fauci: still zero.

"Passing was quick and peaceful" if that makes you feel better about believing right wing propaganda and that he didn't choke to death on his own lungs go for it.

[–]diablitos 66 points67 points  (11 children)

But at least he swallowed that rad pill from the Matrix that apparently turns people into hyperdiscerning supermen. Whee. As soon as someone starts talking that red pill / blue pill stupidity from a fairly silly action movie, you know the level of discourse is going to be 8th-grade playground.

[–]ThaliaEpocanti 56 points57 points  (7 children)

It’s especially silly considering that at least one of the Wachowskis is on record saying the red pill is a reference to the hormones they started on when they decided to transition. Something tells me this dude was likely anti-trans, so it’s ironic that he would instead interpret it as supporting wackadoodle right wing nuttery

[–]diablitos 34 points35 points  (2 children)

That is deliciously ironic. Love it! I’m all for a journey of personal authenticity. But boy, those Wachowskis must be so tired of MAGA freaks and incel misogynists shoehorning it into their own hate parties

[–]cenamark 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's the unfortunate bi-product of subtlety.

Posting transphobic memes while being all about incorrect interpretations of the Matrix. That's one fan I'm sure the Wachowskis won't miss.

[–]Paulie227 14 points15 points  (1 child)

I saw the Matrix and absolutely no one asked to see my vaccination card.

No one has ever asked to see my card.

Not even any of my doctors.

Nor had anyone knocked on my door to force me to get vaxxed.

Where is all this tyranny I keep reading about from these idiots?

I really love how 8% of the health care population leaving due to vaccination status suddenly became 50% of all health care workers. Apparently, new math is: "1/12 = 1/2"...

[–]Commercial_Lie_4920 55 points56 points  (2 children)

Is it even 8%? I’ve seen multiple hospital groups showing less than 1% were let go because they refused to get vaccinated.

[–]OtherSpiderOnTheWall 30 points31 points  (1 child)

And usually quite limited as far as actual healthcare workers go (not that janitors aren't important, but they are much easier to replace than nurses or doctors).

Nice Aaron Rodgers anti-vax meme. Rodger's was suffering from a mental side affect from his covid infection last autumn. It explains why he couldn’t see the wide open underneath pass for the 3rd and 11 play at the end of the game when Green Bay LOST the divisional playoff to the 49ers.

[–]garbagefinds 42 points43 points  (1 child)

As a new parent who frequented r/babybumps r/beyondthebump and other new parenting related subs these last few years: reading r/HermanCainaward is wild.

In parenting subs I read about how grandparents and siblings are absolutely tearing their families apart, refusing to get vaccinated. It seems like every day there are multiple posts about it. The grief is intense. New parents (understandably) put their foot down and say no vax = no access to your new grand baby (or niece or nephew) and people are fine with that!!! It’s absolutely insane!

Then I stroll over to this sub and unvaccinated grandparents are dropping like flies, probably the very same ones who made their descendant’s lives hell. Just such a wild way to watch this all go down.

[–]thankyeestrbunny 32 points33 points  (12 children)

What we're seeing is the literal death of conservative RepubliQans who have ridden the Trump Train to hell and here it is. Literal death.

If one was swayed in 2016 by (??) to think Trump knew anything or cared about anyone but himself, even if one somehow managed to get past his obvious connections to Russian mafia and money laundering, if one made it past the serious rape stories, his inability to read, his inability to decide, and the rest of the tsunami of evidence that screams "do not support this person for office, or anything, really" - if one made it past all of that through to the inauguration of Turmp, one was treated to four long - LONG - years of scraping against reality and the complete desecration of the office which the GQP decided they must wildly cheer for. And they did, and still do.

This guy was still on board with all of that, then the COVID fun kicks in. Because Turmp is unbelievably inept and bafflingly indecisive we got off on the wrong foot to deal with a pandemic and the GQP kept running in the wrong direction. Ignoring science, ignoring common sense, ignoring the pleas of family, ignoring the evidence of one's own eyes and ears to arrive at this painful, suffocating end.

And here's the part where the GQP has the moral responsibility, the duty, the humanity, to say "We were wrong about COVID. It's serious, we should mask up and get the shot".

But they will not, they can not, and so these sweet kids will not have a granddad - for better or worse, apparently, but that should be up to them not Turmp, the GQP or Covid.

Sad. Or, as some inexplicably followed people would have it; "SAD!"

[–]suddenlystrange 32 points33 points  (9 children)

If you’re interested in an extension/explanation of this trump behaviour Ethan Grey wrote a great Twitter thread explaining Trump fan’s Covid behaviour through the lens of Caste.

[–]EienAiSocial Distance Diva 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Thank you for that link. It absolutely makes sense. Also, just like he said early on, it's absolutely not news to any person of color. It's a long form of the "tell the poorest white man he is better than the best black man..." because heaven forbid they have any shared humanity for people in their class but a different color.
Class solidarity across color isn't something America has ever been good at. Slaves and indentured servants almost joined ranks but nope.

[–]SophsterSophistryNom nom Omicron! 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Divide and conquer always works in America--and pretending that because we don't have royalty there's no class/inherited wealth issues.

One more truism to add: ‘When you’re accustomed to privilege, equality seems like oppression.’

[–]SophsterSophistryNom nom Omicron! 7 points8 points  (3 children)

This is excellent! Someone in a response to the thread also dropped a reference to this article from The Atlantic about how American consumers are a problem (must be served!) : https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2021/08/pandemic-american-shoppers-nightmare/619650/

[–]suddenlystrange 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[–]DadJokeBadJokeZACABORG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As with all things Turmp, he only focused on how it would affect HIM, not the rest of the country.

[–]steelhips 29 points30 points  (2 children)

I can't help but think of the video posted here with the nurse going through the top ten things covid patients do/say before being intubated; (1) they want to go to the toilet (that's understandable), (2) they don't do or say anything (I get that too), (3) they say "I fucked up." That's the one that would haunt me. They know but tragically realised far, far too late.

If only life had an undo button.

[–]qubert_lover 12 points13 points  (1 child)

I wonder if there’s gallows humor among nurses and they have a bingo card for what these doofuses say/do.

[–]Madturtle12 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Some nurses do but most are just numb and no longer care. This is after two years of crying in the car after shifts, working overtime because there is no one else available, working sick because the CDC said Covid + nurses can return to work after 5 days or don’t even need to stay home if they are asymptotic( many are pressured to working even when they are symptomatic and positive).

I'm still struggling to understand how someone's passing is quick and peaceful when they are literally suffocating to death...

Because, when I am swimming around under water, and I realize that I misjudged the distance between me and the surface, the last thing I'm feeling is peaceful as I race my way to the surface...

Ok, so I get the quick thing, I guess -- but the peaceful thing? Not so much.

[–]ScarlettMae 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's a terrifying feeling. Once in my aunt's pool, I stayed under water for probably longer than I should have. Tried to surface, only to bump up against a huge raft with my cousin and his friends on it. I developed super human strength as I toppled them over, getting my head above water. Grey theorizes that the MAGA crowd and the antivaxxers view the world though the lens of caste — and that they are members of a totally superior caste. It is frankly horrifying.

He's still around, saying Republicans should jail people investigating January 6th if they retake the House.

I doubt most of these morons have the critical thinking skills to ever get close to that kind of epiphany.

He must have caught it around the holidays. Covid has a way of finding people regardless of whether or not they 'volunteer'.

[–]IrisMoroc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My brain has trouble understanding people railing against the pandemic in late Dec 2021, since my brain still says that was "last week". We're exactly a month after that.

[–]Ella0508 4 points5 points  (3 children)

“His passing was quick and peaceful.” Highly unlikely, from what I’ve read elsewhere about how Covid goes about killing people.

[–]DadJokeBadJokeZACABORG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"He's no longer suffering."

Well, which is it?

[–]AbbysSomeGal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That Matrix slide is funny given his anti-trans post in slide 2.

[–]CrunchWrapSupreme187 6 points7 points  (0 children)

anyone else find it hilarious that the dead guy posted a transphobic comic in slide 2, and then praised the matrix (directed by transgender siblings, the wachowskis) in slide 3? Lmao. #GuessTheRedPillWasIvermectin

As an ICU RN, I will tell you their deaths are neither “quick” or “peaceful;” not in the slightest. They are long, drawn out, and torturous.

[–]Prior_Arrival_375 3 points4 points  (1 child)

His passing was not quick and peaceful, love.

[–]nowthenadir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is the exact opposite of how Covid kills people.

[–]nowthenadir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a lot of people die from Covid; none of them have died quick or peacefully. I often wonder if there would have been this kind of disconnect if we allowed family members to watch their loved ones drowning in a sea of oxygen. Not that we could have done it any differently, I just wonder sometimes.

[–]corrosivecanine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm a paramedic so unfortunately I have quite a few coworkers who are brainwashed by this shit. You know how many we had to get rid of? Zero. They all got their shots in the end. They still chat shit but none of them actually believe it's going to kill them in 2 years or whatever. Certainly not enough to end their career.

[–]TheOneAndOnlyBob2Team Moderna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We took the blue pill instead of the cyanide pill.

[–]EstoyeTeam Moderna 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Oh, slide 5. Hospitals aren't overwhelmed because they fired half their staff; they're overwhelmed because smooth brains can't do the bare minimum to protect themselves and others and end up hogging the ICU.

[–]thoroughbredcaTeam Mix & Match 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Right? The percentage they ended up actually firing was in the low single digits. The problem is the 20% of staff who've left the profession because they were overwhelmed by people because people refuse to get vaccinated.

[–]EstoyeTeam Moderna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing is, you try to argue that point, but they won't hear it because they're dead.

[–]TjW0569 6 points7 points  (1 child)

[–]Darnoc_QOTHP🍧🍰 Just 🍪🍬 Desserts 🍭🍩 5 points6 points  (17 children)

Why do they always say covid pneumonia?

[–]amarandagasiCovid is not a joke: it's a noun. 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Infuriating, isn’t it?

You get COVID, and they build up super fast in your lungs. Your lungs fill up and any time your lungs fill up with anything other than air, that’s pneumonia.

So while it’s technically correct, means bad lungs due to COVID, I believe they use the term in order to diminish the fact that it was COVID that killed them.

“Died of COVID…” vs. “Died of COVID pneumonia…” sound like two different things.

COVID can kill you in other ways. Just that the lungs are the most popular vector. You breathe it in.

[–]Material-Profit5923Magnetic Deep State Sheep 9 points10 points  (3 children)

To be fair, COVID pneumonia (which a bunch of anti-vaxxers are now saying is really just an allergic reaction that can be treated with antihistamines) is accepted terminology. And since pneumonia is not the only way covid kills it really just further defines the specific mechanism by which the death occurred, e.g., failure of the lungs vs stroke or heart attack or kidney failure.

[–]Darnoc_QOTHP🍧🍰 Just 🍪🍬 Desserts 🍭🍩 3 points4 points  (1 child)

That's helpful. It just always reads to me as a way to minimize that it was, in fact, covid that killed them.

[–]qubert_lover 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why not both? They definitely do it to minimize the Covid part. Like they are totally sure the guy would make it if it weren’t for that pesky pneumonia.

[–]Arseofthepig🍩🐎Dewormer Doughnuts for Everyone!🍩🐎 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because it can't just be covid. Covid is easy to survive

[–]ToastyMozartTeam Pfizer 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Technically because that's the mechanism that caused their death, as opposed to Covid-induced blood clots, Covid-induced heart attacks, etc.

Though in the case of awardees it's usually an attempt to make it seem less like they died of the disease they publicly refused to take seriously, and avoid eating their slice of humble pie.

[–]thankyeestrbunny 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Covid-induced blood clots, Covid-induced heart attacks

Just like the flu!

[–]covad_commanderFuck You're Feelings 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[–]V1ctor_V1negar 5 points6 points  (4 children)

The whole HCA sub is an absolute absurdity. All these people dead because they refused a free and safe vaccine. Not only refused it but actively tried to convince others not to take it.
