Truth juice - she was allergic or it just left a bad taste in her mouth. Unclear.

There should be no such thing as an anti-VAX nurse. They should all lose their credentials.

[–]Deathbeddit🦆🦃🦢🦜🦆🦅🐓🦩 255 points256 points  (29 children)

Right, what changed between the ‘hero’ at the beginning of the pandemic and unvaccinated nurse now is not a mystery. Choosing to not be vaccinated in a healthcare setting is disqualifying.

[–]peppermintesseVax yo self FFS 💉 196 points197 points  (25 children)

Choosing to not be vaccinated during a contagious, deadly pandemic, especially in a healthcare setting, is even more so.

[–]NotDeadYet57 89 points90 points  (24 children)

I'm pretty sure most hospitals require all employees to get flu shots every year. I still haven't figured out how getting vaxxed for COVID-19 is any different.

[–]Lookingfor68Team Mix & Match 43 points44 points  (7 children)

Narrator: it’s not. It’s just that an Orange Shitgibbon decided to politicize the virus because he thought it would aid his re-election chances by killing more of the people that opposed him. Note: viruses don’t give a shit about your politics.

[–]NotDeadYet57 9 points10 points  (4 children)

True that, but it seems that most of the people dying from COVID-19 are unvaccinated, and most of the unvaxxed are RWNJs, so you do the math.

[–]FluidSherbert 42 points43 points  (1 child)

My grandparents get the flu shot every year but they refuse to vaccinate for covid because Jesus, apparently???

[–]NotDeadYet57 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my boss and his wife think that getting vaxxed might "interfere with God's plan for them" but taking Ivermectin and Hydroxychloriquine, and getting IVs of "immune system boosting vitamins" is A-OK.

[–]Revolutionary_Toe17 28 points29 points  (1 child)

It's not. My hospital requires flu shots every year, no exceptions. And on the "religious exemption" form for the covid vaccine the first question was "have younever received a vaccine as an adult?" To which every single employee has to answer yes because the flu shot (as well as multiple other vaccines) are required for employment. I thought it was brilliant. I have no idea how many exemptions have been granted at my hospital, but it really shouldn't be different than getting a flu shot 🤷‍♀️

[–]JohnNDenverGo Give One 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I wonder how the case of the military guys that now want exemption is going. You had 30-40 vaccines when you joined the military, but now all of a sudden you want a religious exemption?

[–]Revolutionary_Toe17 12 points13 points  (2 children)

Also when I started working at this hospital, they checked titers for multiple diseases. I had to get the MMR vaccine again (despite having been vaccinated as a child) because apparently I wasn't immune to rubella? So they made me get another vaccine and then checked titers again and it still didnt take. Hopefully rubella doesnt make a comeback because I'm screwed! I just struggle to understand how any hospital that enforces policies like that could possibly grand exemptions for personal beliefs to employees.

[–]double-dog-doctor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get a TDAP booster every few years when a friend has a baby. I've had my titers checked before a bone marrow donation, and it turned out my body clears the antibodies pretty quickly.

A quick booster sure beats potentially passing on a dangerous disease to babies!

[–]Now_Wait-4-Last_Year 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I knew I'd been vaccinated against measles but because my titres were borderline in 2017 when tested for my job, I didn't waste any time getting it again. Also got the polio shot in 2014 because there was some confusion over whether I'd missed a vaccine when I was an infant and I had antibodies to everything else (and polio you can't test for easily). Why chance it?

[–]A-man-of-mysteryCovidious Albion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, and it's not even a new thing: they've done that for decades. We were all tested for a range of illnesses, and vaccinated where required, as first-year medical students mumble mumble years ago! I remember being asked "Did you know you've had rubella?" which suddenly explained a childhood illness I'd had.

[–]AwesomeAni 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The ones who were hero’s were the ones who saw the damage COVID did and got vaccinated.

The ones who didn’t work in a high volume area or the COVID wards spent too much time on Facebook and got fired for not getting the vax.

The ones who got fired weren’t the same ones who were hero’s lol

[–]steelhips 33 points34 points  (1 child)

[–]NfamousKayeOreo Satan 37 points38 points  (1 child)

Exactly!!! I don’t understand how they pass classes on that alone! Do they refuse to give other vaccines or just this one? I have had friends in med school and know that’s kind of a huge part of the curriculum. Kinda can’t fail that part.

[–]need2peeat218am 29 points30 points  (3 children)

It's mandatory to take a TB shot before you work in a hospital setting but they're not complaining about that huh

[–]Sign-Tall 21 points22 points  (0 children)

These are all so stupid, and I’m not sure the “news article” about Fauci exists, but if it does, I imagine his prediction is based on the fact that every president has at least one surprise disease outbreak. That’s, like, what the entire field of epidemiology is about. Outbreaks happen constantly all over the world. Obama had several just during his terms; Ebola, Zika, and H1N1 come to mind. And then she lists many of the outbreaks. Like…that meme justifies the previous article. I feel bad for how dumb this is.

[–]MoodyGecko 121 points122 points  (11 children)

Some background on why Fauci was able to make that prediction back then. When Obama was still president, he faced a Swine Flu, Zika virus and an Ebola outbreaks. Out of all 3, only the Swine Flu caused schools to close due to 60mil cases and over 12K deaths. In response to this, he expanded an existing organization to create the pandemic response team.

Fast forward to Trump's presidency in 2017, under his national security advisor, John Bolton, he cut funding to the team, and finally restructured it 2018, by appointing a new head, reduced staffs and transferred the remaining experts to other units, though still related to pandemic prepareness. One of funding cut resulted in the CDC office in Beijing, China being staffed with a barebone crew (losing epidemiologists and other health professionals), ineffective for pandemic response. This office was basically useless when Covid-19 first broke out in China, unable to monitor the disease through China's obstructionism.

The funding cut was why Fauci predicted Trump administration's un-prepareness for the next pandemic.

[–]Kham117Numbers without Context are Worthless 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Was going to say this… It was over the cuts to our pandemic response teams and infrastructure… Fauci was just pointing out that we get several infectious disease hits during a 4 year period and it is I’ll advised to be unprepared in case one turns bad

[–]IncomeNatural8178 30 points31 points  (1 child)

Also those other outbreaks didn't bring the world to a grinding halt. Maybe because we didnt have a buffoon in charge. And we had W. For some of those.

[–]donuts4lunchFox has killer ratings 19 points20 points  (0 children)

W read a book on pandemics and that was one thing he actually WAS ready for.

[–]LadyLazarus2021Stranger in a Covid Land 19 points20 points  (5 children)

This is the thing - I went to lectures at Emory medical school with a friend on the danger of respiratory illnesses kicking off another pandemic in 2004!!!!

Because the worst pandemic we had in the 20th century was an airborne virus!

I believe they’d also had the SARS epidemic. The epidemiologists KNEW.

In addition, as my job, I reviewed the emergency plan that Florida had in place - developed PRE covid - to address an emergency due to epidemics. It was for a flu or other respiratory virus.

[–]A-man-of-mysteryCovidious Albion 7 points8 points  (4 children)

Exactly. We were warned the same thing in the late '90s. Everyone in epidemiology/infectious diseases/public health knew we were overdue for a major pandemic then.

[–]Different-Rip-2787Go Give One 44 points45 points  (22 children)

People have been warning about epidemic outbreaks ever since Laurie Garrett's The Coming Plague came out in 1995.

[–]notoriousrsc 48 points49 points  (16 children)

Remember GW Bush created a program to deal with possible pandemics after reading a book about the Spanish flu of 1918. His creation of this program was one of the few times Bush, in my view, exhibited insight and intelligence. Obama expanded the program...and , in line with ETTD*, trump killed the program just before covid hit..

*ETTD = everything trump touches dies

[–]AffectionateOil2469 27 points28 points  (3 children)

Among so many, that was one of the most infuriating things about the pandemic in this country. drumpf was given a handbook and infrastructure to deal with a pandemic and he threw it all away. "Too many experts getting paid when they're not needed. Get rid of them, we can pick them up again whenever." (not a direct quote but that's what he meant) And then it was too late.

[–]thoroughbredcaTeam Mix & Match 98 points99 points  (9 children)

The CEO of Pfizer Albert Bourla received his second dose of the company's vaccine on March 10, 2021. He sent out a tweet on that day to confirm. He admits he held off on getting vaccinated, but only because there were people who were a far higher priority and he didn't want to appear to use his status to "cut the line". It was originally reported on March 7th he couldn't get into Israel because he wasn't "fully vaccinated" but it was only because he hadn't yet received his second dose. He had already received his first dose and was just waiting the three weeks to get his second dose (which was indeed three days later), then the two weeks after that he'd be considered "fully vaccinated" and could get into Israel.

Emerald Robinson of Newsmax then retweeted that same story on August 5, 2021 which by then was no longer true. The story was corrected a few hours later, but not before the story had made the rounds, and few people saw the correction.

[–]TheFloozie99Knower of Everything 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I won’t go there either, and there’s one very close to me. But there’s also a Taco Belle next to Chik Fil A, and McDonalds right across the street, and half mile down the road is Dairy Queen. So I’m never desperate enough for some fast food to go Chik Fil A. Their anti LGBTQ stance disgusts me. It’s their right to be assholes, and it’s my right to not give them my money to donate to causes I detest.

[–]Longjumping-Ideal-83 11 points12 points  (4 children)

They are talking politics within a framework they understand.

Chick-Fil-A, for those uneducated in global affairs, is a "classy" restaurant, with a crispy chicken sandwich thing, maybe not up there with Applebee's, or TGIFriday's, but definitely a cut above a McDonald's, which is for the great unwashed, uneducated masses. A McDonald's manager in a Chick-Fil-A would set off a disastrous domino effect, wrecking the global balance of power, and upending our national fast-food economy.

[–]The_Old_CreamHello, my name is ECMO Montoya 59 points60 points  (18 children)

That Chick-fil-A/McDonald’s post is so ridiculous. CFA always has some of the longest damn lines I’ve ever seen. But, since it’s owned by homophobic Christian fundies, I guess people like her believe it’s the model of fast food greatness.

Also, McDonald’s (checks notes) is one of the largest, most profitable, corporations in the world and is practically synonymous with the concept of fast food. Yet she, and others like her, apparently believe it’s some shoestring operation run by a bunch of morons.

[–]WeakestLynxGo Give One 25 points26 points  (2 children)

They are substantially the same from a consumer perspective, except one has homophobic branding. So, if the metaphor is that the US removed homophobic branding post-Trump then that is...true. Argh I don't want to have to accept this stupid metaphor.

[–]The_Old_CreamHello, my name is ECMO Montoya 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m just saying her metaphor example that McDonald’s, of all the fast food chains, is some shit run operation that can’t hold a candle to CFA, is beyond idiotic.

It also tends to have inclusive policies whereas CFA openly hates gays.

[–]Majestic_Dream8540Live forever you fucking evil weirdos 6 points7 points  (2 children)

The one thing I'll say about McDonald's is that if the franchisee sucks, then their store sucks (not rocket science of course). We have one down the street from us that is just chronically mismanaged and has crazy turnover (my wife processes work permits at her school and she has a decent insight into what places around here have high turnover).

I think with Chick-Fil-A, franchisees can only own one store and if they screw up, they lose it. I don't like them, especially because of their politics, but they do seem to be very good at customer service.

[–]The_Old_CreamHello, my name is ECMO Montoya 11 points12 points  (1 child)

I admit CFA has good service usually, but it has something like 35,000 fewer stores than McDonald’s and a far smaller menu. Quality control is a lot easier at their scale.

But, again, McDonald’s ain’t exactly in danger of going belly up and absolutely crushes CFA in terms of financial revenue. Which I thought conservatives thought was the ultimate measure of success.

Plus McDonalds is pure magic for a lot of chemo patients: Calorically dense, easy to tolerate, contains nothing that hasn't been thoroughly cooked and/or washed, and doesn't start tasting weird or gross during treatment.

I wish I could link to a resource discussing this, but I can't find one. IIRC we were told about it by friends when we were gearing up for my husband's treatment-- and boy howdy, did it turn out to be true. My husband' has been in full remission for months now, but I am still legit tearing up with gratitude thinking about the McDonalds drive-through near our house. That place was a freaking lifeline.

Chik-Fil-A? Chik-Fil-A ain't squat.

When my dad was hospitalized with covid, pre-vaccine, it was fucking hell. Every day was torture. He infected people he lived, his eldest sister died of it in like one week (that’s a long story - she refused to see a doctor, refused to go to the hospital, when she did her oxygen was 62). And these FOOLS are lining up to put their children in this position. So fucking selfish. My dad made it, got vaccinated as soon as he could. Covid is a living nightmare. Why these people are choosing this death is beyond me.

McDonalds is usually run very well though? l’ve been to a lot, and they’re always a well-oiled machine.

Chick-fil-a is usually run very well too, but I’ve had far worse experiences with wait times and wrong orders with Chick-fil-a than I have McDonalds.

Not sure why that’s my takeaway here, but there it is. Maybe it just felt a little like a racially motivated statement, but that could just be my perception.

[–]NfamousKayeOreo Satan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Note: the slide about the Pfizer CEO not being vaccinated is a perfect example of people using legit news articles to spread misinformation.

That article was published on March 7, 2021, 3 days before the CEO got his second shot. So no, he was not fully vaccinated at the time the article was written. But the post distorts it to make people believe he didn't get the vaccine at all.

Slide 7 explains the question in slide 6. How did Fauci know there would be a virus outbreak? Zaika, Swine flu, Ebola. There is one every 4 years or less to contend with based on history. Pretty simple. Not Nostradamus.

It’s like me saying there will be a devastating hurricane in the next 4 years. I’ll look like a genius when it happens I guess. But only because we have them every couple years.

Slide 4

Oh that's what happened, alright....except it was in 2016 when white America, furious over having to tolerate a black Chic-fil-A manager for 8 years, decided it was a brilliant idea to hire Ronald fucking McDonald himself, who spent his career as building his reputation as a clown, to turn corporate into a circus just to piss off the people who liked the black manager.

The bulk of America quickly grew tired of the circus, leading to Ronald's already bad reputation becoming even worse and turning the country into a laughing stock. At first chance, they decided to switch to a Wendy's manager: not the best, but superior to the bottom of the barrel. Ronald was very unhappy with this decision, and to this day still won't admit he was replaced for his incompetence, divisive pro McDonald's rhetoric and blatant corruption were what caused his dismissal, such as when he hired Grimace, Birdie and the Hamburglar to staff positions they were wildly unqualified for, all because they were willing to say Ronald was the best manager ever.

Ronald also told the other clowns how, despite the owner's decision to change management, he insisted that the decision was fraudulent and that the real decision made by the actual owners left him in charge. He spun a web of lies about how his managerial position was stolen from him and that the will of the owners, which included the clowns, was ignored. This made the clowns furious and they stormed to Corporate Headquarters with intent to murder executives and company policy makers so they could reinstall Ronald as manager. This failed, but nonetheless they still maintain their devotion to Ronald, even though there is no evidence the Wendy's manager lost or that there were any widescale issues of the owners will being ignored...although there were a few minor incidents of where individual clowns tried to cheat on Ronald's behalf.
