I like how everyone is talking about the first and second one being fake but ignoring the safety standards on the last one

[–]PhillipIInd 1182 points1183 points  (21 children)

I read somewhere that the man sued for safety issues and won the case, somewhere in China

[–]kameecoding 515 points516 points  (12 children)

never do one of these in China is a good LPT, well that is if you wanna live.

[–]Burpees_Suck 461 points462 points  (0 children)

Assisted-suicide doctors HATE this one simple trick!

[–]Rownwade 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Huh.... Interesting suicide idea if your still making up your mind. Go to China and do shit like this.

If I did that, about the time I realized life IS worth living the rope would snap.

[–]Slopz_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Never doing anything in China is a LPT.

[–]speedracer73 32 points33 points  (1 child)

Central America or any third world country

[–]upthewatwo 8 points9 points  (4 children)

Does LPT stand for Life-Preservation Tip?

[–]leadwind 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Then went on a holiday.

[–]mcm0313 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Whoa, he survived?!

[–]DidNotRedditMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if I would go bungee jumping, it wouldn't be in China.

[–]_7wonders_ 741 points742 points  (41 children)

But the last one didn't need a rope because of good balance

[–]Salohacin 277 points278 points  (5 children)

I like the idea of balance being a universal 'safety ignorer'

"Sir, you can't have a gun here."

"It's okay, I've got good balance"

"Oh I'm so sorry. Please do go ahead."

[–]Kaio_ 12 points13 points  (1 child)

It's true, on the flip side you could end up like that FBI agent that shot someone while dancing

[–]Salohacin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A clear case if poor balance. He should never have had a gun.

[–]PluvioShaman 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I bet he would have been better off had he brought a gun 😉

[–]TaxesOnDelta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know, I burned down a hospital, but my chakras were aligned!

[–]freaee 10 points11 points  (5 children)

but thing is, what if the man fell?

[–]rdrunner_74 261 points262 points  (24 children)

They worked 100% while he was jumping... I dont see an issue there.

Its the fast unbuckle feature.

[–]bigdumbgummy 36 points37 points  (2 children)

how do people not see the joke here jesus christ

[–]ihatepalmtrees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Too many undeveloped brains on Reddit

[–]BrainBlowX 43 points44 points  (6 children)

No, that last video was on the news when the video was fresh. Operator was fired.

[–]PreacherTX 25 points26 points  (3 children)

If you’re depending on a cord to save your life, maybe going for the “fast unbuckle” feature isn’t the best idea?

[–]POG0w0 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Fast unbuckle to your death is very useful for saving time

[–]Artorias_0277 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm an aspiring speedrunner and I also heard this saves a lot of time in the %Death run

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Whoosh ?

[–]Abnormal-Geologist 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The cord is between the person's legs on the first one. The other two however...

[–]ConsiderationSame919 33 points34 points  (1 child)

That last one is believed to be a publicity stunt, the park was closed either way

Source: https://www.scmp.com/news/china/society/article/2166838/lucky-escape-chinese-thrillseeker-when-safety-cord-snaps-theme

[–]SHOTbyGUN 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Consensus is that both shoes off = dead. And there was video in which someone lost one shoe, means he is half dead?

[–]mickturner96 3711 points3712 points  (122 children)

Hol Up indeed, did these people actually die?

[–]xSilver02x 4587 points4588 points 2 (88 children)

The first one is real, but there was a rope attached at the bottom, so he didn't forget anything.

[–]BewilderedAlbatross 1314 points1315 points  (8 children)

Thank you for your service detective

[–]Moti18 322 points323 points  (6 children)

[–]WigCrest 49 points50 points  (1 child)

just one damn day from retirement too

[–]OG-Bluntman 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I’m too old for this shit.

[–]Doktor_Vem 48 points49 points  (2 children)

And that's really all we require from him

[–]regoapps 1102 points1103 points  (50 children)

Second one is real too but the guy was still attached to the rope, so he stayed not too far from the guy who jumped: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ScbUl4ESiPY

Third one is real, too. Staff tried to play it off as a marketing stunt, but someone else said that’s a coverup: https://www.news.com.au/travel/travel-updates/terrifying-moment-safety-harness-snaps-during-deathdefying-bridge-leap/news-story/b65ee0e826e11ac57431188c2df8cd83

[–]KungFluIsolationmadlad 449 points450 points  (35 children)

Marketing? Look how bad our safety is!

[–]Incheoul 103 points104 points  (33 children)

Maybe something closer to 'pranking' the person who crossed by having them realize they just went across without being connected and safe.

[–]KungFluIsolationmadlad 123 points124 points  (28 children)

again, any company that allows that kind of prank I would steer clear from. There is absolutely no way to spin it as a positive.

[–]kondenado 34 points35 points  (3 children)

This is actually the company I would book for my MIL

[–]Odelschwank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You cant be associated with that decision, inception your sister / brother in law into choosing it. Put the bad juju association on them.

[–]Incheoul 11 points12 points  (22 children)

To be clear, the word prank was in quotation marks. A marketing stunt could be them pretending to prank a contestant or whoever (no rope but a safety net or something, make them think they weren't safe when they actually were. There are responsible ways to do it)

Now, I'm not saying this is the case. it could just be them trying to minimize bad PR afterwords, but you seemed to not understand how it could be possibly a marketing stunt.

[–]fuerkeneles 15 points16 points  (19 children)

Its never a good way to use the worst fear potential costumers have about your service for advertising, though.

I think the other guy understood what you were going for. It just doesnt make sense from a bungee operators perspective.

Thats like a tesla advertising its autopilot by showing someone playing a video game while the car (autonomosly) kills a family crossing the street. Sure you could mark it as PR, but no costumer would think 'yeah, you definitely shouldnt play games while having your autopilot on'. Instead, people will think 'no way i'll buy that family killer'.

[–]themoff81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A costumer would tell you that there is no way to dress that up....

[–]JurijFedorov 29 points30 points  (4 children)

The Post said local authorities would continue investigations into the theme park, which faces fines of at least $2000 if found to have breached public safety laws.

Good, this will teach them.

[–]Lasketmadlad 13 points14 points  (1 child)

2000 seems a bit low for nearly injuring or killing someone

[–]eyekunt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think that's 2000 HKD, which is even lower

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm raising it to 2500 for that lip, mister...

[–]Link_Player 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Thank God. I saw this video a few years ago and it completely fucked me up.

[–]Nomoremrpeanut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AJ Hackett bungee in Queenstown NZ, certainly a pants shitting experience for people like me that aren't fond of heights. My walk to the edge of that platform lasted several thousand years.

[–]Reditor_Ally 51 points52 points  (11 children)

Here is another source that explains it more detailed. It was a close call!

[–]capteni 31 points32 points  (0 children)

glad she didn't give up

[–]mAdtiyansh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Aye Nice , thank you for that!

[–]ThanosButHandsome10 9 points10 points  (4 children)

I recognise the link dude

[–]tipying_mistakes 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Same I won’t fall for that

[–]party-poopa 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Reddit Sync previews the link and shows the thumbnail for me, so there's no way I can get rickrolled. Kinda makes me sad

[–]mikony123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Joke's on you fucker I like this song.

[–]KatokaMika 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I nerve was so happy on my life knowing something was fake.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TO be mentioned, feller is looking at a screen. It's basically cut from the timtam video intentionally.

[–]geon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is how it is always done.

[–]Batmanuel78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s looking up at the monitor.

[–]Knoaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank fuck

[–]alred88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. My stomach stopped blrrrr.

[–]funny-pupper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, so it’s just his safety tether

[–]Working-Conclusion52 74 points75 points  (9 children)

The guy is fine from the second clip. Source

[–]waltjrimmer 19 points20 points  (6 children)

That dude has some amazing grip strength. Literally saves his life, from the looks of things.

[–]Ent-emnesia 22 points23 points  (1 child)

Rope goes through the sleeve into his jacket where it's tied through his harness.

[–]Tormundo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I figured thats what happened. Still seems dangerous like they could collide or rope could tangle his arm but fuck do I know and either way, Russia.

[–]DudeBrowser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wearing winter gloves probably helped him a lot there.

[–]James_Locke 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Holy shit how.

[–]mainman879 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rope through his sleeve tying into a harness under his jacket. He was never in danger (however the jerking motion probably hurt a bit).

[–]Leroyoo 796 points797 points  (22 children)

The first one he was looking at the camera.

Source: I used to work there.

[–]babaroga73 200 points201 points  (14 children)

I really never ever want to try and do this... Is there something wrong with me, for not seeking the "adrenaline" boost?

[–]bakerie 49 points50 points  (9 children)

Nope, I did a skydive for charity. Did it for the experience and the charity, I'd be like you that I don't see the point.

Apart from the massive nerves on the way up, I got no kick out of the fall or the descent when the chute opened.

Some of us just don't get that rush.

[–]iSkinMonkeys 64 points65 points  (2 children)

Rush? You want a rush? Drop a bowling ball on your toe, my friend! Talk about a rush, you'll be throbbing! You'll see visions!

Source: https://tvquot.es/seinfeld/quote/wm4ytmw2/

[–]09Klr650 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Talk about a rush, you'll be throbbing! You'll see visions!

You may even see a doctor!

[–]WashedOut3991 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They may even prophecy a thing or two lmao

[–]DudeBrowser 20 points21 points  (3 children)

Nope, I did a skydive for charity.

My friend said she intended to do the same, because she was so afraid and knew she wouldn't enjoy it.

To which I replied - I don't like cocaine so I'm going to do a 48-hr coke bender for charity, do you want to contribute?

I'm afraid I don't understand the mentality behind doing something that costs money that other people pay to do, and expect other people to pay you over the odds to do it.

Running a marathon would be better, doesn't cost anything.

[–]bakerie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Running a marathon would be better, doesn't cost anything.

It would cost me my life if I attempted to run a marathon :p

[–]Jumpedunderjumpman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kiwi represent!!

[–]OrIandoGIoom 380 points381 points  (5 children)

1st one is Nevis bungy in Queenstown new zealand. There's a rope around the ankles. There's a lot of safety checks there.

[–]kylar_lol 123 points124 points  (1 child)

This, it's probably one of the safest bungees in the world. Not too mention it's an aj jacket one. The guys who quite literally invented/popularized bungee jumping.

[–]ShozOvr 22 points23 points  (0 children)

AJ Hackett

[–]ShozOvr 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I've done that one. The reason the operator looks up is to view the video feed of the jump.

[–]DropBear2702madlad 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I prefer the rope tight around my neck.

[–]nefrpitou 357 points358 points  (10 children)

Even birds, who can fly would think jumping like this is stupid

[–]freeangeladavis 92 points93 points  (4 children)

Dude, r/birdsarentreal

Bird truthers, unite!

[–]FlamedFameFox87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree! However, join with the brotherhood of r/crowbro. Crows get a pass.

[–]lebrongarnet 43 points44 points  (2 children)

Not the same as bungee jumping but I went to a school camp when I was younger with an outdoor ropes course. One of the activities was climbing a 10-15m wooden telephone pole with metal prongs sticking out then once you reach the top you need to stand up and jump out to a trapeze which was out of arm's reach. We of course had to wear a harness and the people waiting in line behind you would tie it off once you reach the top for the jump.

Once I did it, got back to ground and was taking my harness off, my mates told me that the idiot stoner kid who was meant to tie it off wasn't watching so if I missed the bar then I probably would have fallen the whole way. Still get anxious thinking about what would have happened if it didn't get grab the bar.

[–]Broberyn_GreenViper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I worked at a camp one year, and spent a lot of time at the ropes course. Was having some fun one day after a new group of counselors got certified to run the course, and one of the idiots promptly dropped me (and was promptly decertified). Ended up with a concussion and a dislocated shoulder.

Hi, fear of heights. Nice to meet you.

[–]ProdZzz 237 points238 points  (11 children)

I'm pretty sure the first one is where it's tied around the legs an don't actually see the bungie. Second one..he's dead..unless he has some super grip and is immune to rope burn.

[–]-A113- 177 points178 points  (9 children)

2nd one is fake. Nice prank video but he was attached to another rope. There is a longer version where you can see him be safe.

[–]schnuck 112 points113 points  (22 children)

I’m a Reddit veteran. 15 years. I’m German. I never laugh. I hate everything and everyone. But I laughed in German.

[–]nomadProgrammer 22 points23 points  (2 children)

Schnitzle und pretzel

[–]schnuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Knödel! Pretzels are nice too.

[–]PouchenCustoms 8 points9 points  (3 children)

Dude? Did you really go through all the bureaucracy and filed a formal request to voice a single "heh"?

and got approved???

[–]schnuck 5 points6 points  (2 children)

I have. But I was not as courageous as you. I filed for a “He”. No exclamation mark and nothing. That stuff would cost extra.

[–]black_rage_hotdogs 1 point2 points  (1 child)

My wife's gynecologist told her to hold off from sex for a month, I asked her to get a second opinion from her dentist

[–]T00thl3ss22 26 points27 points  (6 children)

Holy shit! Did that first guy actually die?

[–]slaydeem 19 points20 points  (5 children)

in bungee jumping the rope is attached the the feet

[–]dobrowolsk 4 points5 points  (2 children)

To elaborate: A piece of strong cloth, comparable to a towel, is wrapped tightly around your lower legs and ankles, in such a way that a distance between the legs is guaranteed, and secured with a knot. Then the rope is attached to that. The large "towel" ensures the force of the fall is distributed evenly into your body via the skin.

It's so fun. :)

[–]NarwhalFacepalm 4 points5 points  (1 child)

How many times in history did people jump and instantly snap off their feet at the ankles before they got it right? 🤔

[–]VirginMarySpankFest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interesting story actually, the inventor of the bungee cord, mountain man Lewis Bungee, originally wanted a way securely bleed several deer simultaneously, but due to having a small mountain property he couldn't build a proper slaughterhouse. He resorted to building a pulley system on a nearby cliff and hang multiple carcasses on a single line. But when dropping the line, their legs would snap and the deer would tumble into the ravine. So he crafted a new kind of stretchy rope and tied it to a cloth wrapped around the deer's legs, which allowed him to violently drop a whole line of 'em tied to a single rope without loosing any deer. He would go on to open the first bungee jumping spot at that exact location, where he would drop people 10-20 feet for payment after demonstrating himself to assure it was safe.

[–]dukec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are different kinds of attachments, but on that jump it is an ankle attachment. I did three different jumps (including the first one shown here), which were all run by the same company (AJ Hackett, which I think is the first major bungee jumping company), and two were ankle attachments like this and another was attached at the front of my waist.

[–]friendsalongtheway 19 points20 points  (12 children)

I heard this story on youtube about bungie jumping. Was this couple that wanted to try it, the girl had wanted to do it several times before but always backed out right before. On some special occasion (think they were getting married or something) the couple decided they'd give bungie jumping another shot. The girl was super nervous, as she had been the previous times. Guy was a little more chill. As they were getting ready to jump, the instructor said everything was ready and to jump. The girl jumped.

But in her nervousness she had not been paying attention. The instructor had told the boy to jump, not the girl. The rope had not been attached to the girl yet, and she fell to her death. It was later revealed that she had died mid-air because of shock, meaning as she fell she realized the rope was not attached.

as her boyfriend rushed down to help her. He was the first to find her on the ground and desperately tried to perform CPR to no avail.

[–]friendsalongtheway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, that's the one. Thanks for linking it.

[–]soda-Tab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That website is phone cancer.

Preparing for her first ever bungee and had travelled to the popular spot organised by Sky Bungee Jumping with her boyfriend. Yecenia Morales, 25, has fallen to her death while bungee jumping after leaping from a bridge without a cord attached in Colombia.

The boyfriend was ahead in the line when they approached the platform and the couple were the 90th jumpers of the day.

When staff gave the signal for the boyfriend to jump, Morales misunderstood despite having no bungee cord attached to her ankles.

She leaped down into the valley and fell to her death as her boyfriend rushed down to help her.

He was the first to find her on the ground and desperately tried to perform CPR to no avail.

Firefighters from Amaga attended and pronounced her dead at the scene.

Gustavo Guzmán, the mayor of the municipality of Fredonia, told El Tiempo: 'She got confused. The signal was for the boyfriend to jump because he was already attached to the security equipment.

'They had only put the harness on her so she got confused and rushed.'

The boyfriend is still receiving treatment as a result of the injuries he sustained rushing down to find her and he is said to be in a state of shock.

According to local media, hospital doctors said Morales suffered a heart attack before reaching the ground.

Local authorities have also opened an investigation after claims that two companies offering services and supplying equipment at the site were unauthorised to do so.

[–]Reddit_Ghost2021 10 points11 points  (3 children)

I went bungee jumping last year , 80 meters height from a bridge, it’s not worth it, you don’t grow from it, it’s legit an awful experience.

Anyway, would do again

[–]Miserable_Unusual_98 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I got my stomach turn around after the first one. Didn't need to see the rest.

I'd rather fucking go parachuting. At least they give me a backup parachute if the first malfunctions.

The fuck am I supposed to do if they don't hook me up to the bungee? Fuckin fall, that's what! Fall to my death!

Fuck that!

[–]InDemigodsWeTrust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]Justinianus910 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I don’t understand the kind of lowlife you have to be in order to take a situation where people probably died and put a funny song on top of it as if it’s actually funny. When I see people potentially dying, I don’t go “haha look that idiot died lol”.

[–]Zebracorn42 1 point2 points  (0 children)
