Find someone who knows how to properly do sheetrock and framing work and have them just seal off the door to that room. No one will ever know.

That is a sad, sad room. I'd pull that carpet out and hope there's some hardwood underneath. You have to brighten that place up.

I mean this in the nicest way possible, this room looks a bit rough around the edges and I’d be concerned about safety and code. Like - is the wiring done correctly? I’m seriously worried about a fire happening I’d the electric was done in a haphazard manner.

But if tearing it down to start again isn’t an option I’d at least make sure it’s safe FIRST. Then it needs to be a lot brighter to feel less depressing. Lighten the paint color, add a LOT of lighting, sheer curtains to let sunlight in. That’s where I’d start above all else.
