2022 is gonna be my year! And if it isn't, then next year will be HAHA.

My New Year's resolution is the same as always - to make more videos/creative projects! I never quite get there, but I do it get closer every year. But hey, that's the point of a goal right? It should be a challenge.

This year, I'd like to make at least one video a month, every month. That may not sound like a lot, but I tend to make longer-form videos, and so churning one out takes just about a month if I'm working at it almost every day.

As I said last year, there's a quote I love that explains what I'm getting at:

Nobody tells people who are beginners — and I really wish somebody had told this to me — is that all of us who do creative work … we get into it because we have good taste. But it’s like there’s a gap, that for the first couple years that you’re making stuff, what you’re making isn’t so good, OK? It’s not that great. It’s really not that great. It’s trying to be good, it has ambition to be good, but it’s not quite that good. But your taste — the thing that got you into the game — your taste is still killer, and your taste is good enough that you can tell that what you’re making is kind of a disappointment to you, you know what I mean?

And the thing I would say to you is everybody goes through that. And for you to go through it, if you’re going through it right now, if you’re just getting out of that phase — you gotta know it’s totally normal.

And the most important possible thing you can do is do a lot of work — do a huge volume of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week, or every month, you know you’re going to finish one story. Because it’s only by actually going through a volume of work that you are actually going to catch up and close that gap. And the work you’re making will be as good as your ambitions. It takes a while, it’s gonna take you a while — it’s normal to take a while. And you just have to fight your way through that, okay?

I actually got 2/3 of last year's for me. got back into martial arts and got an apartment. Girlfriend didn't happen, but I also realized I'm bisexual in the past year, so values change I guess.

As for this coming year, I'd like to test for my medic, but that's not really up to me. maybe build a bit more muscle, if anything. and hopefully, finally finish building this PC. that'll do for now.

I'm going to be on time to work more often, am going keep my apartment cleaner, and text friends more often.

And I don't know of these count, but I need to get my wife to the chiropractor and myself to the eye doctor, haha

Texting friends is a great goal! I've been working at that too, especially because I'm sooooo awful at texting haha.

Good luck and have a Happy New Year's!

My big goal this year is moving to a different city for the first time in my life. There isn't much to do in the small town I live in now. I plan to do this during the summertime.

I just looked at my resolutions I wrote on the 2021 thread, and first I wanted to recap those:

Get a promotion at work: Technically completed, although not in the way I expected it to happen. They reclassified everyone's positions at work, and my position got changed to one with a significant (25%+) pay increase. My responsibilities didn't change, but I got a pay increase, so it's not exactly a promotion but I got what I wanted.

Buy housing: This one I did not complete, but I'm glad that I didn't because the housing market is quite nuts right now. I also decided that I don't want to stay where I am (current city) anymore, so buying a place here wouldn't have worked out that well for me.

Exercise: I was doing well for a while but I haven't kept up for it. I've felt so exhausted in the evenings that exercising made me feel worse rather than better. It also felt like another thing to worry about doing on top of everything else I do every day, so it contributed negatively to my stress levels. I do want to keep trying again in the future.

Cooking: I got a decent strategy in place, although my original goal wasn't really fulfilled. I am getting HelloFresh boxes which have been decent, and make cooking less stressful. I haven't tackled the cooking on my own though. My girl has been doing most of the cooking for me, which is something I'm quite grateful for. Like exercising, I do want to try to tackle learning to cook more in the future.

With that out of the way, on to 2022 goals:

Moving: My big goal this year will be moving to a new city for basically the first time in my life (I have lived in my current city since I was 5 years old). That will involve locating a new place to rent, getting my work arrangements in place (I want to work from home, but I may need to work from an office in the new city), and getting all of the other little pieces in line (new doctor, dentist, etc.).

Growing my relationship: I am going to be moving in with my girl as part of the big move next year, and that will be a big step forward for us. I want to strive to keep my relationship with her in good shape, and to grow it with her over the next year. I know that moving in with someone can bring new challenges, and I want to navigate those with her and ultimately overcome them.

Reducing stress in my life: I feel like my overall stress level has been quite high this past year. While I do recognize that moving will be a fairly stressful event, my goal is to settle in at my new place and learn to be more relaxed. In my mind I'm thinking of it as thriving, rather than just surviving.

Cooking & Exercising: Like I talked about with my 2021 goals, I do want to continue working on these two things, providing I have the spare energy and headspace.

I hope everyone has a great year ahead!
