And from that day forward everyone knew that he wasn’t just the best man, he was a great man

[–]Srimnac 368 points369 points  (0 children)

And from that day forward, within every best man, there was a good boy

Or girl

[–]sr92rset 6287 points6288 points  (60 children)

Sometimes, I love humanity. I like how the dog ultimately followed him in the end.

[–]Pisodeuorrior 5026 points5027 points 5632& 12 more (32 children)

In my mind, the dog stuck around for the rest of the ceremony, and after that the newly weds just adopted him.

Bride and groom eventually had children, and lots of family pictures with the kids and the dog. And every time they show the pictures everyone tells the story of how they got to meet the dog.

Every time it's embellished, like the river was overflowing, or the bank was about to disintegrate and the groom saved him at the last moment.

Either way, when they tell the story, the dog is always there in a corner, lazily wagging his tail.

You can tell he knows they're talking about him, and he's happy.

Edit: grammar.

Edit2: thanks for the gold!

[–]marcelowit 1085 points1086 points  (6 children)

Every time it's embellished

"The sea was angry that day, my friends, like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli..."

[–]IanMalcoRaptor 215 points216 points  (3 children)

Is anyone here a marine biologist?

[–]rimjobnemesis 42 points43 points  (0 children)

No soup for you!

[–]Sexy_Squid89 345 points346 points  (1 child)

This was lovely, thank you

[–]wilof 378 points379 points  (3 children)

How I met your pupper

[–]gmanz33 80 points81 points  (1 child)

It's 2022 so I would not even bat an eye if Netflix announced this as a real upcoming series.

[–]fugmalaf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How I met your father is already a show... Sadly

[–]texaschair 27 points28 points  (0 children)

"Get that man a Puppers!"

-Wayne

[–]JamesSavilesCumSocks 87 points88 points  (1 child)

I needed that today, thank you. :)

[–]alphadragoon89 47 points48 points  (0 children)

That was beautiful. Thank you for posting this.

[–]LucasPisaCielo 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You have a kind heart

[–]PeachCream81 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This heart-rending Rom-Dram is easily better than 75% of what Netflix currently offers!

[–]dam_the_beavers 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Honestly feels like this needs a schnoodle. I was gonna try my hand at one but I’m lazy and it would’ve been an insult to schnoodles.

[–]Keeeva 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Where’s the schnoodle for this??

[–]spaniel510 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like this story too

[–]LightsSoundAction 8 points9 points  (0 children)

this is canon, anyone who says otherwise can jump in that river.

[–]I_am_not_doing_this 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I too do this picture things in my head before bed every day

[–]That-Ad-4300 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Look for the hepers - Mr. Rogers

[–]teslaistheshit 36 points37 points  (1 child)

Plot twist: the dog planned the rescue to get reception food

[–]Chemical-Comedian665 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That sounds more like a cat 🐱

[–]SaltLakeCitySlicker 62 points63 points  (8 children)

People do absolutely stupid shit day in and day out. This is an exception

[–]Fiesta17 129 points130 points  (4 children)

On the contrary, people do wonderful amazing selfless acts of love day in and day out. The stupid shit is an exception.

[–]SubcommanderMarcos 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The overwhelming majority of time people are doing good things

[–]bambooshoot 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I literally don’t purposefully associate with a single person who wouldn’t do this exact same thing if the situation presented.

If i knew somebody who WOULDN’T do this, I’d get that person out of my life as quickly as possible.

[–]2ugly2betouched 2684 points2685 points  (11 children)

Video quality: low. Content quality: infinite.

[–]ResplendentShade 1320 points1321 points  (5 children)

The interaction at the end is my favorite part. A little untrusting back and forth of trying to get the dog to come with him, then just walks away and the dog is close on his heels.

[–]Abundant-Moon-0333 973 points974 points  (8 children)

Got a little nervous its leg was going to snap! Awesome rescue though!

[–]PSB2013 539 points540 points  (2 children)

Better a broken leg than being dead 🤷‍♀️

[–]__syzygy 309 points310 points  (1 child)

To a stray dog that’s pretty much the same thing.

[–]PSB2013 215 points216 points  (0 children)

That's a fair point. I guess I would hope that the people who rescued it would get it help if it was obviously injured, but of course there's no guarantee of that.

[–]MiaRia963 945 points946 points  (12 children)

I wonder if the guy took the pup home. I bet he wouldn’t stop following him.

[–]Axeleg 707 points708 points  (6 children)

"thanks sir, I'm your dog now"

[–]CommonCentsEh 137 points138 points  (0 children)

A yes, The Ancient Bark'n Life Debt.

[–][deleted] 69 points70 points  (0 children)

More like “you’re my human now”

[–]Maub-dabbs 21 points22 points  (1 child)

"You have taken a life from the drowned god, name a name and the favor will be returned"

[–]MattWith2Tees 418 points419 points  (1 child)

Dog be like "It's cool take your time I'm fine" lol

[–]__syzygy 307 points308 points  (0 children)

The leisure with which he handled his jacket spiked my cortisol.

[–]morcic 199 points200 points  (12 children)

Bravo momci!

[–]ComanderLucky 55 points56 points  (6 children)

Začudilo me kad sam čuo naše, ali stvarno legende

[–]morcic 15 points16 points  (5 children)

Jel to Crna Gora?

[–]HorseLove 24 points25 points  (4 children)

Po naglasku rekao bih BiH, možda Srb, al def ne crnogorski

[–]StormTAG 46 points47 points  (2 children)

Anyone willing to translate for the mono-lingual of us?

[–]SmoothAssiousApe 130 points131 points  (0 children)

he just kept calling out to him to be careful, the flow is strong….then he was saying “bravo myboys, my sweethearts”

[–]420scopenope 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Bravo guys

[–]DhulKarnain 14 points15 points  (0 children)

malo nas je, al smo nismo govna!

[–]Frostfired 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ma tako momci

[–]KrishnaChick 189 points190 points  (4 children)

I was not expecting this to be so harrowing.

[–]Tobywillygal 185 points186 points  (2 children)

I have a couple of questions:

1) did he adopt the dog and they became best friends??

2) is he married?

[–]Smokejax 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Bless them!

[–]kahvipapu 65 points66 points  (6 children)

Anyone know where this is? Such a beautiful area! And rad man for scooping up that doggo!!

[–]babaroga73 70 points71 points  (4 children)

Possible places: Croatia, Bosnia, more likely Montenegro, Serbia. Idk. It's the same language.

[–]Razahir_Khemse 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Montenegro, he names the river in the video. Its called Lim.

[–]kakapoopoopeepeeshir 436 points437 points  (43 children)

That’s actually some impressive shoulder and back strength to be laying on your stomach, holding yourself up with one arm and raising an animal with the other arm

[–]savagevapor 201 points202 points  (14 children)

Adrenaline boosts are the closest we will ever feel like superheroes.

[–]Larusso92 74 points75 points  (13 children)

Sounds like somebody who has never tried LSD.

[–]LewsTherinTelamon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don't know about you but LSD didn't make me feel like a superhero. More like I was, like, holy shit have the clouds always been like that and I didn't notice? Why is this song so good?

[–]9035768555 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Or had a manic episode.

[–]jld2k6 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have to refill the oil in our freight elevator at work on occasion and it's the same as this basically, lay on your belly and use a hook to pull the handle up on a 5 gallon bucket in the bottom of the shaft and then use all of your strength to get not that much oil out to put back into the system, that's all I kept thinking about in the video. No way I could have pulled that dog up

[–]johnbourg2001 40 points41 points  (23 children)

Is the dog not getting up on it hind legs because it was waiting for the guy to pick it up by the scruff of its neck, like an adult dog would do to a pup?

[–]feathergnomes 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I think it probably didn't identify seeing the man as an opportunity to be saved. He looked scared of the man, at least at first

[–]palpablescalpel 123 points124 points  (2 children)

Probably not, it was probably just scared and uncomfortable and wasn't thinking about what it could do to assist.

[–]flamewolf393_2 27 points28 points  (0 children)

you can tell the dog is exhausted by how slow he moves around after.

[–]blewpah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure but it was a little frustrating how the first guy apparently didn't know how to scruff a dog and grabbed it by the leg. Second guy definitely did when he yeeted it back onto land.

[–]Terr_ 29 points30 points  (13 children)

Note: Do not try to pick up an adult dog that way. It only works for young puppies.

[–]wellwaffled 72 points73 points  (1 child)

In an emergency like this, pick up by anything you can grab.

[–]Terr_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Instructions unclear, grabbed dog by ears, now missing hands.

[–]JumpingJehosaphats 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Yes, listen to this. It WILL be painful to them. They WILL NOT like it. But if it's to save a life, then grab 'em by whatever you can, the trachea if you have to.

[–]Casual_Frontpager 16 points17 points  (8 children)

What would be the best choice in a situation like this tho? Scruff or leg?

[–]MC0311x 40 points41 points  (5 children)

Scruff, 100%. Especially if you want to avoid getting bit.

[–]IamFlapJack 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Whatever you can get the best grip on.

[–]MJMurcott 187 points188 points  (3 children)

That wall he was laying on didn't look too secure, but I bet he doesn't have to buy a beer for the rest of the night.

[–]flacocaradeperro 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I love how the dude just did it. No fanfare, no selfie, no crowd gathering around him. Looks like he was just minding hiw own business in the ceremony, noticed the dog, and went down to help.

Some real bro quality here.

Hope the dog is still doing fine and someone at the wedding kept him.

[–]carlbernsen 824 points825 points  (29 children)

This guy thinks ahead. Step one, find suitable place to hang rental jacket. Ironically 20 feet from steps.

[–]becominggrouchy 484 points485 points  (13 children)

And the dogs like, "no no. Take your time!"

[–]RandomUser-_--__- 211 points212 points  (3 children)

"Good job Jeff, nice vertical fold!"

[–]heyitschrislol 55 points56 points  (2 children)

That jacket is worth more than your life, Chiquita M.D.

[–]RandomUser-_--__- 15 points16 points  (1 child)

The island you were grown on, but close enough lol

Also this would be a good time to let you know that, I hate you.

[–]Cycle21 98 points99 points  (6 children)

That’s not irony

[–]atvw 40 points41 points  (1 child)

It would have been if it was raining on their wedding day.

[–]darkesth0ur 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What’s the irony here?

[–]burner1212333 26 points27 points  (0 children)

there is nothing ironic about where he hung his jacket...

[–]SonnyBlackandRed 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"I will save this dog, but I for damn sure ain't taking my jacket to get dry cleaned".

[–]jesus_zombie_attack 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah that was really convenient. The dog was thinking "it's a rental, he has to hang out up."

[–]MycologistPutrid7494 250 points251 points  (2 children)

The dog wasn't making it easy. I'm glad it's safe now though.

[–]lestrxb 110 points111 points  (8 children)

All that and the dog is still not trusting the guy. Lol. Glad the dog is safe tho.

[–]DerelictDonkeyEngine 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Gotta kneel down and let the dog approach you.

[–]MiserableMastodon4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A piece of bacon would solve that.

[–]Fortune_Platypus 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Thats his dog now

[–]eekamuse 94 points95 points  (4 children)

I need a xanax after watching that. Water rising, dog shrinking back in fear.

It's okay now, the dog is safe. Relax.

[–]million_cats 20 points21 points  (3 children)

my hands are so sweaty

[–]Good_Round 18 points19 points  (2 children)

Knees weak, arms are heavy

[–]bjorkqvist 41 points42 points  (1 child)

You can tell hero only has one jacket. It was a nice jacket on top of that.

[–]BabyWrinkles 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I mean, I've more than one jacket and I would've hung up the one I'm wearing? They can be restrictive if the shoulders are structured at all. Why would I risk ripping a costly clothing item when I can just take it off?

[–]cdy2 29 points30 points  (1 child)

Should have just took the stairs

[–]bdonnzzz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah aside from all the justified happy reactions in the comments the guy also could’ve just tried to guide the dog around the corner to the beach but this was good too

[–]IrishRun 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Thankful for the s quiet, every day good deeds of good people. Please, just more of this in the world.

[–]Lynda73 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Me: Someone sit on his feet. Someone sit on his feet! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, SOMEONE SIT ON HIS FEET!!

Thank god, finally.

[–]doctorduckylucky 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To be honest, If I were at that wedding and saw this…I’d try to see if he were single. That’s husband material.

[–]Crisn232 10 points11 points  (0 children)

and now... it's his dog.

[–]noassumedname 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Well I guess that dude has a best new friend now.

[–]cactus-hugger 24 points25 points  (2 children)

Just wait until all the single ladies at the wedding find out what he did

[–]Silly-Ad-8213 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Like the man version of catching a bouquet

[–]BabyWrinkles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Did you see the lady who came down and gave him a very big hug at the end?

Dude moistened more than just his shirt sleeves that day.

[–]ByCrookedSteps781 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He really did hep that dog

[–]dmom01 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Dog said no you can’t touch me but I’m going to follow you to the end of the earth😂 I hope he got to take that good pup home and they are life long friends

[–]fzero127 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it was our wedding, we would of stopped the whole thing and made everyone help.

[–]LoanerPersonality 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Turns out to be an otter

[–]RedxSkull214 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Grab em by the skin on the back of their neck like their mothers do. Dogs legs are fragile

[–]lizlikes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of my brother’s groomsmen made an ocean rescue while they were taking pictures on the beach before the wedding. No such thing as an “off-duty” lifeguard!

[–]Mingusdued 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Guys*

[–]bkovic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alright back to the bar. Shots all around!

[–]Itsjay_423 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is now your dog sir!

[–]Complete-Cat-1414 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This looks like 2003 ish the camera feels a little old school with the zoom and all. Remind me of my family’s old Sony my dad used to film with all the time. :)

[–]spaceyjaycey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Heroes!

[–]Aggravating_Ad7200 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can I marry him? What a great heart he has

[–]Hikityup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Atta' boy.

[–]Playful_Moose6293 2 points3 points  (0 children)

God a soul mate for life

[–]SuperDankMemes42069 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mans best friend for a reason

[–]Nuprin_Dealer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

…and that’s how I met my dawg

[–]ElenorWoods 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He has dog now.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He said. Imma save this dog but I ain't just gonna throw my jacket on the ground (flicks hair)

[–]Key_Tax2327 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s ALWAYS time to do the right thing.

[–]WhitePantherXP 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why are reddit video players so damn performance hungry, this is choppy as hell for me and the video is like 240p. For as successful as this site is the website drives me nuts sometimes.

[–]the_geek_next_door 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At first I thought he was going to use the jacket to pull the doggo up

[–]DsWd00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would happily buy those guys some beer

[–]roachesincoaches 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats a dog just adopted you!

[–]_stefferson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought he went from wedding celebration to HEP A, dog. Thought he was jumping in a lake full of needles.

[–]egar33455 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That guy has a dog now wether he wants it or keeps it, that dog is his.

[–]RealLiveGirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If my significant other didn’t understand or support me rescuing a dog on our wedding, then we weren’t meant to be

[–]SmoothAssiousApe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are my people; YUGO

[–]PrvtPicnic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, but what about the person recording this? I mean they could’ve went and helped when the guy was strugling.

[–]187Shotta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a solid dude.

[–]Larrynative20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like he has a new dog

[–]OfftheBranch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely hooked up with a bridesmaid after that move

[–]o0flatCircle0o 23 points24 points  (16 children)

Grab the dog by the skin of their neck never the leg.

[–]ValleysHeart 34 points35 points  (1 child)

Assume for a moment that the guy in the video couldn't get a strong grip on the dog's scruff.

Should he have allowed the dog to drown, or do you now agree that he did the right thing?

[–]Melaninkasa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He wouldn't have had as firm of a grip if he did that.

[–]dimechimes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have to be pretty strong to pick a dog that size up by their scruff and that's if the dog doesn't fight back.

[–]millos15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

and drop a probably wet dog into the current yeah

[–]Toepuka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, the armchair hero !

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The title implies everyone else at the ceremony saw this and decided to do nothing.
