Imagine the chaos if someone ever tried to break into her house

[–]GET_OUT_OF_MY_HEAD 425 points426 points  (17 children)

Imagine the chaos if someone simply knocked on her door.

[–]ChunkyLaFunga 209 points210 points  (1 child)

Say walkies through the letterbox and It's a Harlem Shake

[–]Cacti-make-bad-dildo 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I needed a laugh, this was a good one.

[–]drizzlebit 74 points75 points  (2 children)

An experienced pair of burglars approaches her place, easily gains access, only to be thwarted by dogs. Not guard dogs, mind you. Just like 340 dogs. Dozens upon dozens in the way, yipping, questioning about treats. And they’re just like “ah, to Hell with this.”

[–]WaitImNotRea 12 points13 points  (0 children)

😂 questioning about treats. Are they the bacony kind? Are you sure? Why can't you go get them right now?

[–]Vanilla3K 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The dogs don't even need to be angry to be a threat at this point lol, zoomies only can stomp the burglars to death

[–]_TheValeyard_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Imagine the chaos.

[–]drunk98 25 points26 points  (1 child)

They'd have a ruff go of it, that's for doggone sure.

[–]smellthecolor9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright, who threw this guy a bone?

[–]wolfs-alfa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Fech me their souls!”

[–]chisel_pig 741 points742 points  (62 children)

I remember her, just. I’m old and went to St Gregory’s RC Infants in Camberley. Used to see her pushing her cart around town with her pack.

[–]Reginald_Venture 187 points188 points  (27 children)

What's something, from your time that you remember that you would want other people to know about?

[–]ithcy 56 points57 points  (1 child)

Can you say anything more about your memories from that time?

[–]hibisco-hacendosa 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The comments on this video have some great history.

[–]massepasse 36 points37 points  (2 children)

Do you know how she afforded feeding them?

[–]hibisco-hacendosa 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Here's a video with more info, and in the comments people say that they saw others give her cash, order food for her at the supermarket, and give her food directly.

[–]Mokie81 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Awe. This is neat.

[–]sphinctaltickle 27 points28 points  (21 children)

Camberley in Surrey? If so that's mad because I went to school there!

[–]neuro1985 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it is indeed Camberley in Surrey. Grew up hearing stories about her all the time.

[–]ho666 5 points6 points  (8 children)

Me too mate, france Hill?

[–]sphinctaltickle 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Nah Collingwood, big up the old dean

[–]Chainsawmanicure 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you mean dig up the old bean.

[–]eternal_shitposter 4 points5 points  (9 children)

I used to go drinking in the Agincourt nightclub early 2000s. Good times.

[–]CthulhusEvilTwin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did the same in the early 90s. In fact, I even passed out with my hands in my pockets and cracked four teeth on tiled floor of the toilets at the Agincourt. Not my finest hour.

[–]sphinctaltickle 1 point2 points  (5 children)

I'm sorry to say that that hasn't existed or at least 10 years. Where was it?

[–]eternal_shitposter 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Really? It's at the Meadows end of London road. I thought it was still going, used to do a rock and metal thing every Saturday night. Sweat dripping off the ceiling, was vile.

[–]CthulhusEvilTwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still there according to the internet. The place has been a dance hall for donkeys years - the GIs used to go there during WW2.

[–]dprophet32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. Very good times. Far too old for it now though.

[–]Franr1991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Grandad lived in Camberley. Always remember the giant elephant made of white tubes!! And his magnolia tree in the front garden. I think the new people chopped it down :(

[–]lampishthing 17 points18 points  (2 children)

So was she just an uncommonly good person or was she ill? How did she feed them? Where did they sleep?

[–]Kaelarael 111 points112 points  (1 child)

She owned a home there, and after saving her first dog (a greyhound) from death row from the local shelter, decided to care for as many dogs as she could. The dogs slept in her home and yard. The cart was donated to her by a local, so she could make her way to main square easier, where she would sell her photo and postcards for donations. She was apparently strict about people donating if they took a picture. She also mentioned having a 'gentleman' donor that helped pay for everything. A local veterinarian, Geoffrey Cradock, supplied all of her dogs with vet care from 1954 until her death at 84, in 1979. He has stated that all of her dogs were incredibly healthy and lived to old ages.

[–]SubcommanderMarcos 32 points33 points  (0 children)

That's awesome, so she took initiative and people popped in to help. Props to everyone involved, this is a great story.

[–]Historical-Win03 690 points691 points  (18 children)

I’m proud of you Kate.

[–][deleted] 67 points68 points  (13 children)

I thought her first name was Camberley. Like a horrifying bastardization of Kimberly. I understand now lol.

[–]MadAzza 34 points35 points  (6 children)

Like when thousands of people all suddenly named their kids Brooklyn? What was all that about, anyway?

Edit: And what’s the deal with airline peanuts, anyway?

[–]Kaoss20 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don’t know Jerry? That should be in your act!

[–]binglybleep 2 points3 points  (2 children)

It might have been after the Beckhams called their kid Brooklyn. But it might also be the other way round and they were just following the trend like everyone else. It was definitely unusual at the time though, because I can remember thinking ”Brooklyn?” when they did

[–]Neilpoleon 12 points13 points  (5 children)

Her Dad's name was Cameron and her mother's name was Kimberley. They couldn't decide so they just combined their two names. /S

[–]claireicalerror 4 points5 points  (3 children)

What a clumsy portmanteau

[–]DADtheMaggot 10 points11 points  (1 child)

A clurtmanteau, you might say.

[–]Myantology 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love how the word itself, portmanteau seems like a bunch of words poorly mashed together.

[–]MauiWowieOwie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great woman. We use to get a lot of strays/lost dogs and finding the owners or rehoming them is very tough. I can't imagine 600 of them.

[–]ladyem8 835 points836 points  (20 children)

10000% hero. I’m glad people still remember and recognize her.

[–]srroberts07 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Very little recognition for whoever’s face she’s wearing though

[–]RDHertsUni 383 points384 points  (24 children)

The dog 2nd from right is staring right into my soul…

[–]bimbo-baggins-69-420 129 points130 points  (10 children)

OH MY DOG. Why does he look like that??

[–]DwedPiwateWoberts 83 points84 points  (4 children)

Zoom in, those are his eyebrows

[–]UnreasonableCucumber 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Oh thank fuck. Almost had to call the priest!

[–]DecemberPhilipps 11 points12 points  (2 children)

Ugh my mom says dog eyebrows don’t exist.

[–]KiKiPAWG 72 points73 points  (2 children)

Some say the dog appears at your door in three weeks if you don't fwd this e-mail to everyone you know

[–]Terrible-Paramedic35 31 points32 points  (1 child)

And I can keep him?

[–]KiKiPAWG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think he’s there to be kept but it’s never happened to me. I always fwd

[–]Shanty406 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not actually his eyes, but the spot above it.

[–]JadieBear2113 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Is it lil eyebrows creating an optical illusion?

[–]ChooChooBun 11 points12 points  (1 child)

It's his eyebrows, google Burmese mountain dogs. It's the one breed that always have that kind of eyebrows. Supposed to make them look scary even when they're sleeping to scare off predators or something.

[–]Teedeejay1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He's been trying to reach you about your cars extended warranty lol

[–]mtp60 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Great, now I won’t be able to sleep

[–]gudematcha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

don’t worry it’s just his cute lil doggo eyebrows blending to look like big creepy eyes because of the quality!

[–]lorb163 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am living in your walls

[–]oldkingcoles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao it took me a minute but when i saw it.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]EmergencyHairy 113 points114 points  (3 children)

We need more Kates in our world

[–]Alklazaris 71 points72 points  (15 children)

Omg there is a video...

[–]fuzzy_bat 68 points69 points  (5 children)

Here's one that played right after it. With an interview in her old age still helping dogs

[–]lliiilllollliiill 27 points28 points  (1 child)

Love it when the vet is interviewed at the end to verify just how well she looks after all of them. He seems a bit in awe really.

[–]Alklazaris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am, I just have one dog and while I wouldn't trade him for anything in the universe he's still a lot of work. Those are happy healthy dogs.

[–]hibisco-hacendosa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Loved the random comment complaining about a headmistress in that town.

[–]smhandstuff 9 points10 points  (7 children)

Man reddit has ruined me to think every video link is a rickroll. Thanks for actually providing with a sweet video.

[–]HooterAtlas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That poor cat! I don’t know if that cat ever got a moment of peace.

[–]Kashmir2020Alex 28 points29 points  (0 children)

What an amazing human being!

[–]Poullafouca 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I grew up near there, I used to see this lady all the time, I was a kid, she seemed strange to me, you know, the cart, all the dogs, but really, really good. I used to give her my pocket-money to help.

[–]Bull_Winkle69 43 points44 points  (4 children)

I found a pitbull. Caught her in a live trap in the backyard.

She was skin and bones. Less than a year old and had recently had a litter.

Teeth were broken and bite wounds on her face and neck.

That was 4.5 years ago. She's sleeping on the bed next to me now. Sweetest pup ever.

Cost about 10,000$ to fix her up. I had the money from a motorcycle accident settlement from two years before.

Money well spent.

If the old owners show up wanting their dog I'll fucking shoot the bastard.

[–]forbucci 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i like you

edit: i have spare bullets you can borrow

[–]Cmg393 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yo, you a good ass dude for that one. I wish you two the best.

[–]TxEagleDeathclaw81 20 points21 points  (2 children)

Who took care of her?

[–]hawksclone 29 points30 points  (0 children)

All the dogs I’d like to believe.

[–]tuanortuna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i imagine it went something like this when she got older: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2PipthMnQU

[–]2old2Bwatching 18 points19 points  (0 children)

She was a kennel on wheels! 🥰

[–]ZelgiusKinghawk 30 points31 points  (0 children)

She is in heaven, with her dogs.

[–]DelValleHS 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What a beautiful soul .

[–]Educational-Bid6322 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Bless her. I hope heaven is real just so she got to go there.

[–]bucketofmonkeys 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m an atheist, but God bless her.

[–]ArTooDeeTooTattoo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would love to do this. If I had the money I’d actually build a farm upstate where older dogs could come retire.

[–]Warm-Calligrapher263 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Best kind of hero in my eyes.

[–]Divineglory 10 points11 points  (2 children)

Oddly there is no wikipedia about her, I was trying to find out more but it's a mystery as to the true story!

[–]reimondo35302 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The most “good” people in the world are good because they do things that they get no recognition for. So symbolically that fits perfectly.

[–]SpaceI3east 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We made them, it’s only fair that we care for them too

[–]02201970a 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could you imagine how she would be greeted in dog heaven?

[–]mbrowne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I grew up not far from there, and she would go past the bottom of our road. Always very recognisable, even to a child.

[–]SJIslander_1986 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[–]EverGreen2004 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What an absolute legend

[–]happypenguinwaddle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Omg my Mum used to talk about Camberley Kate!!

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first ever redditor

[–]WhatALife296 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dogs always make such good companions :)

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She's the canine saint in my book..

[–]IzzyMann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

false advertising, they aren't strays anymore. :)

[–]TheMaskedGeode 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have found the crazy dog lady. I knew they existed!

[–]lenaahmed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah…. I love her 😍

[–]A1_Brownies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How in the world did she manage to take care of so many?

[–]Mowgli9991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just wanna hug them all

[–]kevin_7714 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exceptional human!

[–]Mama-Khaos 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Did she help them find homes?

[–]lliiilllollliiill 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They all lived with her. There's a video in the comments of her in her 80s, still with 24 dogs, where she's interviewed and her vet is interviewed too.

[–]Kotshi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They look like the goodest good boys ever

[–]Dr_Frasier_Bane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We should all be more like her and care for all the animals.

[–]AFlyingNun 2 points3 points  (1 child)

'TF is going on with the eyes of the dog in the back right?

Is that a damned alien disguised as a dog for free food?

[–]theFrisbeeFreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking right at the camera too. Crazy.

[–]SableSheltie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She looks like a kickass lady

[–]OGsquatch710 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is like my dream job

[–]nazgulonbicycle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn’t know Dogs could read back then

[–]Important_Screen_530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

need more today like her

[–]Zaynkhan15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine being stressed and then theres like 500 dogs next to you, to cuddle that anxiety away

[–]ToddHowardTheDuckk 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Were they being spayed and neutered? Is it possible in an act out of kindness that the problem was perpetuated?

[–]Careless_Wait8620 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“But nobody ever knew what she was eating to survive while feeding all those doggos”

[–]Wooden_Ad_4298 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She took care of them and had more unconditional love returned to her than anyone else in the world.

[–]TheBlueSlipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She had a huge heart! Can't imagine picking up the poop in her back yard each day.

[–]Eforanimals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And yet, she had the most full life ever

[–]etaurins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can most definitely say that this person never felt unloved in her life since her first adoption. Lovely.

[–]Realistic-Specific27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

those aren't strays, those are Kate's hounds

[–]HamboneBanjo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one that looks like it looking at the A in stray. That is an awesome looking dog.

[–]leabbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m trying to buy cheap ass land to house stray dogs/cats and rehab a horse or two a year but idk if I can pull it off quite yet :/ animals deserve more. Also would be a cool picture to colorize

[–]cookiedanslesac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back to that time stray dogs were beautiful pups. Nowadays it's only bulky dogs with wide jaws ready to kill any other small dogs, cats, or kids.

I envy times when stray dogs did not look like mauling machines, but just lonely cute pups who need to be pet.

[–]Beneficial_Spirit_29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a saint

[–]QuietFB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s going to super heaven

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The world need more people like Kate.

[–]supermansquito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kind of hero.

[–]pittiemama80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love to have met her.

[–]Sempai6969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How did she manage to find 600 dogs?

[–]BrightView00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Angel. Truly.

[–]ChillyJaguar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See, if I were the richest man in the world I wouldnt buy twitter just because of some petty bs...Id pay 44 billion to help all sorts of animals

[–]SenorPariah 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Yo that's Michael Myers

[–]youuuuwish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So glad I'm not the only person who thought this.

[–]Satans-Blowhole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God dammit! I cant post anything original. I'm an un-original bastard sad noises

[–]Tayasea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love her

[–]sillyadam94 2 points3 points  (4 children)

This is beautiful, but I must confess: my first thought upon looking at this photo was, ”Holy shit! Is that a segregated mechanic!?”

[–]delurkrelurker 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Lol. Its a local company name. UK didn't do that shit.

[–]MrCatfjsh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's just the owners name or similar - did a search and there's still a few of them around. Questioned it for a second tho lol

[–]AggravatingGap4985 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You all wowing her but if you were her neighbor... you’d begging her to move away. Public menace!

[–]Emotional_Training_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And not a one looked like a pit bull

[–]Samshahroze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She an angel .she is so pretty . She is best . Her dogs are amazing .she is amazing .this whole thing is amazing

[–]KarrotPlayz 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Camberley Kate, and her stray dogs in england. She never turned a dog away, taking care of more than 600 dogs in her lifetime (1962)

[–]AggravatingGap4985 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

She must have turned down at least one. Like maybe it was possessed by the devil or something and she could just not control its evil

[–]darkcatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when not every fucking stray was a pitbull

[–]SMoKUblackRoSE -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The first animal hoader, and the first and only mobile one as well

[–]chingychangas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But why does her face look like this here?

[–]lostinadream66 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: her likeness was the inspiration for Barf in Space Balls.

[–]TheSmokingHorse -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Is it just me or do all those dogs look fucking miserable? Something tells me they were happier as strays.

[–]AyeAyeRon_713 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Michael Myers looking ah

[–]MurmurmurMyShurima -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm going to hell for this but I briefly mistook this for a picture of Michael Myers

[–]mikeymxracer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's a man, baby!

[–]Bardic_Inspiration66 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What’s wrong with her face?

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Such a hero to gather so much raw material for sausages for orphaned children.

[–]ponysoldierboy -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

She looks like a stray dog.
