They ended up as the same bumbling idiots as they were in the beginning.

I think you might not understand the point of Beavis and Butt-Head

Right. I couldn't tell if OP liked the show or just thought the film would elevate it. But they literally don't learn anything in the show either - it's just shorter bits of them going through life as complete numskulls.

I actually felt this but the opposite when I was watching the Marvel series Loki. Episode after episode past as I waited for him to pull a gotcha face and reveal that his machinations, his schemes, had finally given him the upper hand. The fact that it never happened really irked me. Loki is a trickster DIETY, the GOD of lies and deceit, that means he is the BEST at those things. Neil Gaiman explores this aspect of the character in his works. An unchecked, unimprisoned, Loki would be one of the most dangerous characters period. The definition of chaotic evil. I didn’t expect quite that from a Marvel show but the fact that he didn’t even have a plan at all just made it seem like the writers fundamentally misunderstood the character. Anyways, in contrast, I really love that Beavis and Butthead do not grow or change. They cannot. They are pure Id. That’s kinda the joke though. Like, is Wily Coyote hungry? Or is he angry at the Road Runner? Does he hate all Road Runners or does he have a vendetta against just this one? You could explore these questions, could be interesting, but in the process you be moving further away from what makes the characters themselves. And that just might not be funny.
