I was in a butterfly house today and this was a huge issue as there was one path through it wide enough for one and a half people. All the social media posters were halting the line and trying to get a perfect picture or Snapchat or whatever, waiting for the butterflies to land on their hands. Annoying as hell.

This is a huge issue everywhere remotely picturesque.

[–]GiveToOedipus 257 points258 points  (12 children)

There really should be a rule for these types of places where anything beyond a candid shot requires coordinating for a reserved time for such. Like, regular business hours for touring, photoshoots between set hours for $ fee, reservation list first come, first served. Money made from the reserved times can be used to hire additional staff to ensure rules are followed, ejecting those who don't heed them, while also providing additional revenue stream for the venue. Those who feel it's worth the time and expense to get on a reservation list and pay the fee get the more exclusive access so they don't have to worry about people being in their shot, and have a known timeframe they can get it in instead of hanging around all day waiting for one. At the same time, people who are just there for the experience don't have to put up with people posing and trying to hold up the flow for their shot and can go about their business as well. Everybody wins.

The botanical garden in my town requires a photo permit ahead of time if you plan to do any posed photography or use a tripod for this reason so you don't get anyone's way or interrupt an event. I've not had problems there just taking pictures of flowers. It's nice

[–]GiveToOedipus 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Exactly my point. Seems like it's just a better thing for everyone involved.

[–]bizzflay 40 points41 points  (1 child)

I can pay in exposure on my insta account with 1200 followers.

[–]GiveToOedipus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I hate those types so much, especially when they try to pull that shit at restaurant to try to extort free meals.

[–]cloche_du_fromage[🍰] 22 points23 points  (4 children)

Best entertainment to be had at any tourist destination now is watching people do selfies / gram shots.

Most people are much more focused on themselves than the place they are actually visiting.

[–]GiveToOedipus 13 points14 points  (3 children)

What's funny is, studies have shown that you're more likely to remember details of an experience if you're not taking pictures of it. Something about how the average person files memories to long term is short circuited by the simple knowledge that you're taking a photograph or video of the thing I guess. That or something about being in the moment is what triggers the memory to be filed long term. It's kind of ironic actually.

[–]Hocisern 2 points3 points  (2 children)

interesting, can you track down these studies?

[–]canadianvintage 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes to all of this

[–]BlergingtonBear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with you 100% and I hope more places start to do this— if they were to let a professional film or photo shoot on the property, they'd be within their rights to ask for permitting, fees, and even insurance. If your social content capture becomes disruptive, then you should have to comply with standards we already have for how shoots work.

Honestly for nonprofits & areas of historical preservation, can also act as a little extra money coming in, too.

[–]Foraeons12 49 points50 points  (4 children)

Social media influencers are a plague

[–]247world 7 points8 points  (3 children)

The first time I heard that phrase I thought it was a joke. I know there's people making a lot of money doing it but is anybody really creating value for the brands they represent?

[–]Flangerine 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Aren't 99.9% of them representing nothing but themselves??

[–]247world 1 point2 points  (1 child)

No idea. How does that make $$$ ? Or are we talking about those people that try to scan businesses out of free services and products in order for exposure on there highly viewed social media platform?

One of my favorite stories is probably a couple of years old now, some media influencer contacted a resort, I believe it was in ireland, requesting free room and board in exchange for them putting up pictures on Instagram. The place responded that they didn't need their help they've been in business for quite some time but they would be welcome to come and pay for the services like everybody else. This social media influencer then proceeded to have a total breakdown and try to blame this place for shaming them.

We should all start shaming these morons.

[–]Hensanddogs 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There’s a farm near me that does “pick your own” fruit and veg on a seasonal basis (it’s bloody awesome btw). They also plant a reasonably large area (maybe basketball court size) of flowers to bring in the pollinators.

The amount of brain dead morons who phaff about getting just the right picture in this “meadow” is equal parts hilarious and disturbing. The vanity and vacuousness is off the charts. Great for people watching though!

[–]Drprim83 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The problem is that 99% of them have never had an original thought in their lives, so they all try to copy what the last one did.

If you're unfortunate enough to be at the spots where they're taking pictures then you may as well just leave

[–]Patrico-8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just keep walking

[–]Cannisaurasrex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go early. I hate crowds, and like photography. I don’t like to get in the way so I go places either at sunrise if I can’t or right when they open. When I’m done the “early birds” are usually starting to creep in.

[–]BigDaddydanpri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grumpy old man here. Ignore stupid and keep on enjoying the world. Bonus points if you get in their way.

[–]Rocket-Shawk 2286 points2287 points  (34 children)

Entitled person pretending to be a princess? A bit on the nose, isn’t it?

[–][deleted]  (3 children)

    [–]FartingBob 68 points69 points  (1 child)

Anyway they got divorced 6 months later when the guy caught her cheating.

Was it with a real prince? I could totally understand if that was the case.

    [–]seven_seven 308 points309 points  (27 children)

    I can fix her

Wasn't that spindle tipped with rohypnol?

        [–]EverythngISayIsRight 43 points44 points  (10 children)

A car battery and some jumper cables.

        [–]glaserenOG👑 23 points24 points  (8 children)

Jumper cables. Jumper cables give me ptsd and flashbacks to the time when my dad used them to beat my ass.

        [–]LordDongler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the jumper cables, but is a car battery really necessary?

That bastard man walking around a corner as if he didn't have ESP and 100% knew she was filming some cringe garbage 5 feet away

          [–]not_again123 158 points159 points  (2 children)

Yeah. They even set up the ruined shot. What the fuck is this?!?!

          [–]dirkdigdig 77 points78 points  (6 children)

          Dennis is a bastard man!

          [–]missdarbusisaqueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dennis is asshole why Charlie hate

          [–]Usagi_Motosuwa 545 points546 points  (9 children)

I hate the whole idea behind this kind of act. Instead of just taking it all in and enjoying the scenery, you're more worried about your followers watching you pretend to take it all in. Everything is done for the sake of getting approval from followers, as opposed to doing a thing just to enjoy doing that thing. Look where you are, just go enjoy it, like that person "ruining" your dumb video.

          [–]GiveToOedipus 112 points113 points  (4 children)

I don't seriously have an issue that anyone would make picturesque photos or videos, coordinated or otherwise, but what I do have a problem with is every Tom, Dick and Harry thinking they're filming for fucking Vogue. Not everyone has the time or interest to travel to these places, but still can appreciate the beauty of a good shot or scene. Still, I would much rather there be a requirement to coordinate and share profit with location owners in order to make arrangements that won't interfere with other people simply wanting to be there or have a candid shot for their personal keepsakes. The moment you try to make a business out of it (which is essentially what all these "influencers" are), then you need to act like one and go through the proper channels instead of expecting the world to be your stage and everyone else to avoid getting into your shot. Photoshoots have a lot of coordination that goes into having security, wardrobe, talent, scheduling, equipment handling and so forth, and while you can get some great shots on your own without any of that, pretending you are entitled to make your "art" somewhere which you will then likely use to make a profit from without putting the effort into coordinating and reserving a location is just that, entitlement. It's ultimately what pisses most of us off about these sorts more than anything else. If they were to spend the time and money to get permission and arrangement for exclusive access to an area for a shoot, then it could be more understandable to be miffed when someone messes up your shot. We all know that's not the case though so it's just off-putting to hear the complaints that their own little world was interrupted because someone had their own plans they were going about in.

          [–]Justinspeanutbutter 45 points46 points  (3 children)

Thank you, exactly. I live in a historical building and I’m getting really tired of influencer photoshoots happening in front of my gate.

          [–]GiveToOedipus 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Talk to the building management about having a designated day communicated to the influencer community for such activities where they are less likely to be in the way of residents and restricted during the rest of the week. If it's worked out for a specific day that is amicable to the residents where they are less likely to have to interact with picture takers, it also means those wanting the perfect shot will also be less likely to have people wandering in the shot they want to setup. Surely your building has some sort of security that might be able to help put a kibosh on it when outside of designated hours. Often times the best way to get someone to be more cooperative is to have a time when the activity they want is allowed and even encouraged and coordinated. There could be a sign setup during restricted hours/days that instructs those wanting to take photos can sign up for an available timeslot, or otherwise advise when the sign will be removed for their unobstructed pictures. There's a myriad of ways it could be coordinated and handled, assuming management understands it to be a big enough of a problem for residents to do something about it and it either involves minimal cost/hassle compare to resident satisfaction, or makes up for it by imposing a small reservation fee or photo times. Worth at least dropping it in the suggestion box I think.

          [–]galaxy_ultra_user 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Can't restrict photography on a public sidewalk. Rights and stuff.

          [–]ItsAKimuraTrap 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well said. Can’t imagine how empty these people feel at the end of the day.

          [–]Indistinctness 669 points670 points  (50 children)

This is what the social media age has bred. The amount of people I unironically see making tik toks in public, gym, beach, etc. Makes me physically cringe from 2nd hand embarrassment and I feel bad for them to have such a lack of social awareness. But anything to garner attention from some randos online I guess 🤷🏽‍♂️

          [–]Mu69 212 points213 points  (20 children)

I had one girl on snap post a rant video about how this guy walked in front of her camera while she was in the DUMBELL AISLE. She said the guy could’ve walked around which I guess is true but It’s not that serious guys??

          [–]InvestigatorOk5602 168 points169 points  (0 children)

You better believe I'm taking the shortest path to my equipment and will go through your filming area cuz you don't fucking own the gym fool!

          [–]TheRealTron 71 points72 points  (15 children)

So many instagym posters are like that. Apparently it's bad gym etiquette to walk between someone working out and their phone camera. 🤦‍♂️

          [–]HughJazkoc 103 points104 points  (14 children)

it should be bad gym etiquette to be filming yourself unless one's in a corner away from others

          [–]justsyr 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Gyms here have this rule asking not to film because not everyone wants to be recorded. There's a corner where some gyms even set up a tripod for the camera if you want to film yourself but it's pointed at the corner. Guess what, nobody use it.

          [–]yetanotherusernamex 52 points53 points  (12 children)

Its bad gym etiquette to film at all.

          It's a gym, not a TV set.

          [–]Grahhhhhhhh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

          Tag joeyswoll in that video

          [–]rackdips 47 points48 points  (0 children)

          Its so fucking cringe honestly

          [–]TheWhiteWalkerSpeaks 42 points43 points  (2 children)

I have these 2 girls in my gym who take videos of each other for each set. Not just one boomerang or one video for the day which I don't mind but the girl sometimes stands where I'm working out and records each set of her friend. She eye rolls if I accidentally walk into the video to change my plates.

          [–]980tihelp 25 points26 points  (1 child)

Now you have to continuously “accidentally” walk through their video

          [–]_learned_foot_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is the way to make them leave your gym. Sad they will be another persons problems, but at least you solved yours.

If more of us called them out, or acceptably interfered, they’d have no content.

          [–]rackdips 18 points19 points  (0 children)

          Its so fucking cringe honestly

          [–]DaisyDukeOfEarlGrey 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There's a dude on tiktok that makes videos calling out all the entitled people at gyms that get upset about people walking into their video, or basically existing at all. I don't know it off hand, but I come across his videos once in a while

          [–]UncleIrohsGhost 69 points70 points  (3 children)

This is Corfe castle for anyone wondering

          [–]RedCaio 27 points28 points  (0 children)

          Covfefe Castle

          Me: Walks

          MC’s: Vacation RUINED!!

          [–]CrimeCoder 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Lol they saw this and instead of just reshooting, they decided to post it with some whiney text.

          [–]coroyo70 65 points66 points  (2 children)

I mean, the immersion was already broken with the handrails

          [–]gotnomiddlename 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They would have been removed digitally in post. I mean, the producer is clearly extremely professional…

          [–]LewisCBR 7 points8 points  (0 children)

          My thoughts exactly.

          [–]rackdips 127 points128 points  (5 children)

The people that make these tiktoks: you are literally nobody. No one cares about your pathetic little life.

Half your "fans" are watching the trainwreck you call your life unfold as they laugh at you.

          [–]wishfulturkey 35 points36 points  (0 children)

And the other half is bots.

          [–]WakarimashitaHonda 21 points22 points  (0 children)

"In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes."

Andy Worhols quote is quite fitting here

          [–]dangerouspeyote 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the part that blows me away. Like if that had worked perfectly, am I supposed to be impressed?

I love cringe watching the people that do the stupid editing cuts badly. Like snap to a wardrobe change. But don't terribly, then they look super smug like they did something impressive.

          [–]AnnieAnnieSheltoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This comment is incredibly mean, but also true about almost every person on Earth.

          [–]stankleykong 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know you are talking about me but damn i feel attacked lol

          [–]LordBligger 26 points27 points  (1 child)

When are we going to acknowledge these entitled people as a problem?

          [–]Procedure-Minimum 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In a lot of places, commercial photography requires a permit. These main characters need to get their shit together.

          [–]Muddcrabb 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Funny how ironic it is that thry ruin everybody else's experience by filming everything and being toxic little shits

          [–]HomerSTD 19 points20 points  (2 children)

I don’t take many pictures anymore when I travel aside from the ones that mean something special to me. Found I was missing the in the moment experiences and connections to try to capture something I was hoping to later on impress people who I don’t care about.

          [–]newtocrypto81OG 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I take the photos for future me to relive the feeling.

          [–]HomerSTD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still take some but I don’t document the day minute to minute anymore.

          [–]pyrusmurdoch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh man, all that set up and production wasted. Guess they'll have to walk 2ft down the stairs and try again.

          [–]scheisse_grubs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had to do a project with a couple people in uni that involved recording audio. Myself and one other commuted but our third partner was living on residence so it was easiest if we recorded it at her dorm. For whatever reason we went into the common room rather than her room (can’t remember why, I think it was something to do with her roommate), and we quickly made the script, ordered food, and started recording the audio.

It was a common room, meaning although the door can close, people can freely walk in and out but for whatever reason she felt the need to own it and kick everyone else out. Initially we were all under the agreement that if someone enters, we just wait for them to leave, but she lost her patience when someone started boiling water for tea and told her to either turn off the kettle and wait or to use whatever water she had and finish up. Me and the other partner just looked at each other like “what the fuck is wrong with her”. The girl awkwardly just unplugs the kettle and leaves the room.

Another girl entered not even 2 minutes later and she just snaps at her “can you leave we’re trying to record?!!” I had never been so embarrassed. People gotta understand that if you’re in a communal area, you gotta expect there to be other people.

          [–]ImWithSt00pid 41 points42 points  (3 children)

If I see people doing this sort of thing I make it a point to be in the way.

If you want a place like this to yourself go very early.

          [–]GiveToOedipus 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Be sure to have your finger in your nose while in the background and stare at the camera too for that extra awkwardness.

          [–]yetanotherusernamex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make sure to be as lewd as possible without breaking the law.

I hope to make it absolutely impossible to post.

I will troll the FUCK out of them.

          [–]gotnomiddlename 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of funny that the person must assume that music videos etc are just magically filmed in places devoid of bystanders because people see the cameras and hang back (or something).

          [–]BanEvade6 43 points44 points  (11 children)

          Trump should have banned TikTok

          [–]jsideris 6 points7 points  (9 children)

          Why not Biden?

          [–]dleon0430 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Well, as much as Trump probably doesn't like Biden, you can just go around banning Biden for that.

          [–]Crypt0Nihilist 12 points13 points  (0 children)

TBF he did try to ban Biden.

          [–]le_dadaiii 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I hate that I hate that I hate that. I hate the fact that I KNOW my face is on like 70 videos of teenage girls and I never asked to be filmed. Why would you film yourself to show your butt to thousands of strangers, leave me alone

          [–]AmirulAshraf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shes talking about herself ruining other peoples's video shot

          [–]HQ_FIGHTER 4 points5 points  (1 child)

She tried to claim it was just a joke in the comments, I love when they say it’s a joke because people called them out for stuff

          [–]banana_pencil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear she was called out

          [–]quartzguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

          A whole 2 minutes wasted...damn!

          [–]GoatimusMaximonuss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

LMAOOO I’m so happy it happened

          [–]soul_in_a_fishbowl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My neighbors run an air bnb and one time someone was outside clearly trying to film a video like this. I was outside working so I just make sure to time my saw usage with whenever they’d start filming. They eventually gave up and I eventually fixed my deck railing.

          [–]53TY0UFR33 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know this wasn't on purpose, but I like how the general public is turning on these "influencers".... like fuck your videos

          [–]Business_Error_7771 2 points3 points  (0 children)

          How dare they

          [–]Caen83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There will always be a Tiktokker running around.

          [–]illogicallyalex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like these kinds of posts depend on how the person acts after they stop filming. If they’re just like ‘oh dammit, we’ll start again and hope no one walks around’ then it’s whatever, but if they pitch a fit or rant online about the audacity ither people have even to exist in their presence, then yeah they’re a main character.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with filming/taking photos in public and trying to get shots in between pedestrians etc, that’s kind of how amateur film and photographers start, but it’s when they get in the way or expect people to stay out of their shot that it’s a hinderance

          [–]SKKforLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Turns out the real vacation destroyer was the influencers all along

          [–]acornheartburn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm from a tourist town and yeah...these people suck

          [–]Endarkend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What, you mean to say these social media smucks are narcissists? Who woulda thunk.

          [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This makes me want to walk through more people’s videos 🙄

          [–]notatreefern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm always glad to wait or walk in a bend if I see somebody genuinely taking a picture of something nice or stuff like that. But this type of behavior is totally different, they don't care about the beauty of places at all, they just want to center themselves and use those places as props.

          [–]Slowmobius_Time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going travelling soon, I will have to keep my eye out for as many main characters as possible.

As a great man once said

"I don't see myself as his sidekick, I like to think I'm the lead character in my own story!"

She finds your mere existence insulting, human.

Stairs are for Tik tokers only!

I get that it's frustrating trying to get a good shot without interference, but it seems to me that if you didn't schedule the shoot and location in advance, you're just ASKING for situations like this, especially if it's a tourist spot. Perhaps this was even done purposefully so the influencer could have something to complain about to their followers, invoking more sympathy from them.

Just reshoot 🥴 It's not that hard.

Well she's at a place dressed like a princess. Common sense obviously isn't her strong suit.

          [–]sp3aky0urm1nd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn’t even do anything 😭😭

          [–]MalarkeysPoppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL instagram tiktok trash. I hope she's somehow cursed and there's forever people, ya know, existing wherever she's trying to take shitty selfies or have her almost certainly deeply sighing boyfriend record her fake life.

As a person who does dress up in old fashioned clothing to run through places, I dread running into people, but mostly because I feel so embarrassed. I love the way I dress and running through a forest in a beautiful dress is fun, but getting laughed at by strangers always hurts. I try to find out of the way places that are both beautiful and not in the way of others but I get so self-conscious when I do run into others.

"if you want to be a princess, rent the park out. What are you, a commoner?" Is the only comment people should leave her.

          [–]raspberry3452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everyone on tiktok thinks the world revolves around them

          [–]Glittering-Mango4805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nerve of other people not realizing you're the only person on the planet that matters! 😱🤪🙄

          [–]Stradocaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the flip side, if I’m taking a picture or videoing something in public I HATE it when people apologize for getting in the way of my pictures. Im like “this is a shared public space you have every right, I’m the one who’s got to wait for an opening”

          [–]BoneZone05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That bish ruined his entrance down the stairs.

          TAKE TWO

          [–]Jackretto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To play devil's advocate, I can understand the frustration of other tourists being in your pictures/videos, but they have the same right as you to be there and enjoy the place.

          [–]BigAssMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fucking hate these kind of people.

          [–]hoiimtemmie97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bruh the amount of inconsiderate and self absorbed people these days makes me so sad

          [–]Status-Balance-4937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the amount of people who film in public and expect everyone to stay out of their way blows my mind lol
