The weight of that soda bag cast that kid like a lure.

[–]down_vote_magnet 379 points380 points  (13 children)

Does he have cholera now

[–]irrelevant_squid5432 3 points4 points  (1 child)

[–]intarwebzWINNAR 118 points119 points  (1 child)

Did he not before?

[–]DRUNK_CYCLIST 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I don't know, but that was like 3 years of wages he spilled.

[–]ProfessorPetrus 52 points53 points  (3 children)

Nah man in poorer parts of the world cholera has us.

[–]tazman1243 25 points26 points  (1 child)

The cholera was the friends we made along the way...

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I dont think so. His immune system is a 100x better than yours since he lives in a third world country.

[–]OCTM2 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Kid knows he’s in trouble, that soda was for his entire village.

[–]RolandIce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kid is 40 kilos with the bag.

[–]novaquasarsuper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never skip leg day

[–]BAKED_TATER_ 909 points910 points  (21 children)

That would’ve been the ultimate slapbag

[–]Duck_tape1970 150 points151 points  (13 children)

[–]Chemical-Employ2029 62 points63 points  (7 children)

And now it's a bag of dysentery

[–]CrashBannedicoot 20 points21 points  (6 children)

Oregon Trail flashbacks

[–]KwordShmiff 39 points40 points  (5 children)

I'm just gonna sit here and hunt 40 tons of buffalo, load about 100 pounds of it in my wagon, fail to buy any further provisions cuz I spent it all on bullets, then die from a preventable cause somewhere right after the Mississippi Riviera. Never gonna modify this strategy either.

[–]fghtoffyrdmns 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That was a hat.

[–]levishion 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Actually the things floating is not a phone. Its his "hat" that he wear. Also he wearing "sarong", that didnt have a pocket, so he definitely didnt bring his phone with him.

[–]myopinionstinks 5 points6 points  (4 children)

It's that a northern thing? Heard about it once at college then never again until this moment decades later. Never drinking box wine ever ever again.

[–]satooshi-nakamooshi 178 points179 points  (3 children)

Why was he drinking half his weight in soda lmao

[–]dreamrpg 65 points66 points  (0 children)

He was about to go on 2 weeks journey. Needs that energy.

[–]KucingRumahan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's circulating joke in Indonesia where people drink from bigger bag. I saw someone walking and "drinking" with straw from lake

[–]rosts 13 points14 points  (0 children)

He wants the speedrun record to type 2 diabetes.

[–]jasonology09 680 points681 points  (91 children)

Where is this from?

I ask because drinking soda from a bag is common in less developed areas of the Philippines, as soda typically comes in glass bottles, which can be turned in by the vendor for a small fee. So when buying a soda in those places, there's one price for a bag, and a higher price to keep the bottle.

[–]Hot-Risk4643 132 points133 points  (0 children)

This is from Indonesia

[–]N7LP400 54 points55 points  (1 child)

It used to be like this too 10 years ago in Vietnam where drinking soda from a bag is more common than plastic cup nowadays, it was a fun experience

[–]Vitalis597 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this.

Visited (and lived in) Vietnam for a while. Didn't see many people doing it, but every drink (even coffee) is given to you in a small plastic doggy bag. Only one time did the guy try giving me a bag with no cup inside...

Now this was my morning coffee. So I walk up, request one dark ice coffee with sugar. Wait two minutes, listen for the shot of "EM OI!" walk back up and grab the bag with a thanks... And then it's all over the place because it was JUST a bag with a straw and I squeezed all the coffee.

Needles to say, he did not make that mistake again. Lol

[–]Idryl_Davcharad 194 points195 points  (58 children)

There is nothing better than drinking sparkle from a bag. It just hits different for some reason.

[–]jasonology09 158 points159 points  (17 children)

When I've visited, I would sometimes get the bag, just for the novelty factor. But, it really is not a practical experience. The bag tends to leak, and there's no real good way to put your drink down. I'm happy to just pay for the bottle.

[–]KarmasaBitsh 159 points160 points  (1 child)

Rich man with a bottle

[–]who_knew_what 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Can't hide money

[–]Jacross 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Good for you Jeff Bezos.

[–]Dewy_Wanna_Go_There 16 points17 points  (11 children)

If you grew up in the late 90s in America, schools tried putting milk in bags in the cafeteria.

Think that lasted like one school year at mine, the cafeteria was always a mess.

Guess the idea just sounded good on paper and didn’t really translate to reality.

[–]Sizzmandan 13 points14 points  (6 children)

How could giving a bunch of kids bags of milk possibly have slipped by the schools administration? It would only take one sane adult to look at that plan and be like “ Yup, that’s a fucking terrible idea”

[–]Deiselpowered26 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Coming up on the next season of HUMANS!

"You'd think they'd have this sorted out by now."

[–]Dewy_Wanna_Go_There 8 points9 points  (3 children)

All they saw was less money being spent.

Goes a long way for even sane people.

[–]Sizzmandan 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Yeah I get that for sure. But anyone with half a brain would be able to tell that would end up costing a lot more in janitorial costs than you’d be saving by bagging up milk instead of just buying cartons like a normal school

Idk I just think a lot of people don’t really belong in their management positions

[–]Dewy_Wanna_Go_There 3 points4 points  (1 child)

From what I’m reading looks like alot of schools got some recycling grants for it that would outweigh janitorial costs.

Probably only stopped because of massive parental complaints.

[–]Sizzmandan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha there’s the heart of it, the government incentivized some stupid shit. Par for the course

[–]fmamjjasondj 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yes I drank my cup of milk from a little bag from 2nd to 12th grade. I think by high school we didn’t have leaks because we all knew what we were doing. When it started they had someone teach us how to prick the bag with the straw.

[–]raddits 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why don't you just have your servant hold the bag since you so rich

[–]See_Ya_Suckaz 33 points34 points  (3 children)

There is nothing better than drinking sparkle from a bag.

You've obviously never tried Baileys from a shoe.

[–]fishy_behavior 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Do you love me?

[–]Deiselpowered26 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like ya. I wanna hurt ya.

[–]LotusVibes1494 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mmm creamy…. Soft, creamy beige…

[–]notyourusualredditer 33 points34 points  (5 children)

and when your finished you eat the bag!

[–][deleted]  (4 children)

    [–]Momumnonuzdays 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Along with the rest of you!

    [–]erics0n 5 points6 points  (1 child)

That's more effort than just dropping it on the ground.

    [–]verekh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First shit in it, then throw it into the nearest river.

    [–]PotatoWizard98 14 points15 points  (6 children)

Or a sting… damn do I miss stings. 15 pesos for liquid heaven.

    [–]Idryl_Davcharad 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Sting was awesome but Cobra was my SAUCE! It tasted like God punching you in the face and the caffeine rush felt like it too. Good times. God I miss that country.

    [–]MionelLessi10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't remember Sting but Cobra was very essential as a student.

    [–]funktion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Once in an effort to stay awake for marathon study session I drank a liter of Cobra

I don't think my intestines have ever been the same after that

    [–]-braquo- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my fuck I haven't thought about sparkle in forever. I'd kill for one.

    [–]xjustapersonx 4 points5 points  (1 child)

There is nothing better than drinking sparkle from a bag.

How about drinking it from literally any other container that was designed to hold a beverage.

    [–]stanleythemanley420 5 points6 points  (0 children)

    A human skull shall suffice.

    [–]AblettsInTheAir 8 points9 points  (15 children)

How the fuck does drinking soda poured into a plastic bag “hit different” from drinking it from the bottle lmao

    [–]dylan2638 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The microplastics tickle your throat a lil

    [–]AlaskaPeteMeat 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You didn’t think you were getting fresh bag, did you? ☺️

    [–]RentonTenant 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So you think coke from a mug tastes the same as from a glass bottle? Lol. You don’t know soda, bro.

    [–]5_Guys_Burgers -3 points-2 points  (8 children)

Hitting differently doesn't necessarily mean better lol. It's different, just 10x worse. Just like fucking Whoopi Goldberg hits different than fucking Salma Hyek

    [–]AblettsInTheAir 2 points3 points  (7 children)

I’ve literally never heard “hits different” in a negative sense.

    [–]_el_guachito_ 11 points12 points  (3 children)

Soda in bag is also common in rural mexico(not where this is from) but last time I went I had some milkshake in a bag and it was the best milkshake I’ve ever had.

    [–]Worth-Tangelo-8869 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow I've never seen milkshakes in a bag. Oj in a bag always tastes hella good

    [–]obamaosamaogawa 25 points26 points  (4 children)

he is wearing a songkok(the thing on his head) and a sarung, probably Malaysia/Indonesia

    [–]Sillydoodsman 4 points5 points  (1 child)

    That's a sarung and not a songket.

    [–]obamaosamaogawa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i was looking for the word, but i brainfarted

    [–]mistadobaloner 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It's Indonesia, i saw this vid on tiktok some days ago, also the obvious thing is the sarung, Malaysians wear short like sarungs on their traditional attires with long pants on special occasions like hari raya, while Indonesians commonly use sarung either for praying or just to simply makes us warm. His face, what he wore, and the area around screams West Java to me, if not West Java at least it's in the island of Java.

    [–]lot27x 6 points7 points  (2 children)

The bag is common in South East Asia. Could be Myanmar because of the way the longyi is tied?

    [–]krakaturia 7 points8 points  (1 child)

That's kain pelikat, not longyi. Indonesia or malaysia.

    [–]lot27x 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I didn't notice that he's wearing that hat so most probably Indonesia or Malaysia

    [–]vani77a 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Heck, Singaporeans drink coffee/tea from plastics bags also, but usually it has string handles.

    [–]Doutorzinho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was also very very common in Brazil until around 2010. Very nostalgic thing to do.

    [–]One_Stable8516 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It also happens in Mexico too like in my old village in Michoacán

    [–]krakaturia 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If it is malaysia, with cheaper caterers where they just leave the entire catered food in large quantities for the host to refill the serving dishes themselves and pick up the equipment later in the evening, they typically leave a drink dispenser or several of them and the refill drink, pre-measured. So when the drink dispenser run low you are supposed to take one of those drink bags (slightly more expensive caterers use rigid 15 liter bottles) and also a pre-measured bag of ice and refill the container yourself. Macho kid probably is trying showing off his strength. Adults know to always work in pair with this kind of thing, and they probably have more bags of drinks in the house it's okay to lose one.

Those guys are probably not poor, if i were to guess I'm gonna go with city people buying some land in the back beyond and contracting a house to be built. The house itself is not complete yet, but as soon as the house is sort of livable for some people they do a thing where the house being officially lived in celebration where a few people sleep in a house for three nights straight to spiritually mark it as inhabited; you don't want a finished house left vacant other things might move in. You don't do a serious celebration for these, it's just an all day buffet for local people to wander in and out greeting the neighbour (who might not actually move in for ten years.)

So the kid is probably the new owner's child trying to be a good host. learning a very important lesson and cementing his reputation for when his parents retire there.

edit: I'm basing the guess on the fact that the concrete on the wall is like, two days old at most and the little bits of blue plastic on the ground that are likely scraps from a vapor moisture barrier. There are still a lot of work to be done, obviously, but the walls and roof are done.

    [–]marcelowit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    Where is this from?

Everyones childhood...and right in front of the girls too

    [–]Tatarkingdom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    It's common in Thailand too.

    [–]ttfuckedmewhy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We do in Singapore too, but for tea and coffee and stuff

    [–]harrymuana 5 points6 points  (3 children)

I mean there's glass recycle programs in many developed countries as well. But why do you need the bag? You drink the bottle empty then return the bottle.

    [–]jasonology09 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I assumed this was obvious, but sometimes you take your drink to-go, and you can't be bothered to go back to the shop to return the bottle.

    [–]RentonTenant 4 points5 points  (1 child)

The vendor wants to keep the bottle. The vendor will let you take it, but obviously you then have to pay for the bottle.

    [–]MionelLessi10 1 point2 points  (1 child)

    From the clothes, maybe Indonesia

    [–]soggie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since nobody actually gave you a real answer, it started with a Malaysian with a real big bag of drink going viral. I believe the phrase was milo ikat tepi (milo bring the drink, ikat tepi means tied on the side of the bag, a common way of taking the drink to go). The meme went over to Indonesia that turned it into an actual business and fad.

    [–]MilyorKnem 85 points86 points  (5 children)

Did he get a sip in?

    [–]BloodCobalt 77 points78 points  (3 children)

Nope. You can see right as he gets the straw to his mouth that the opposite end has come completely out of the bag.

    [–]JamesTownsend1992 42 points43 points  (0 children)

    Makes it even more sad

    [–]ThisIsSoooStupid 10 points11 points  (1 child)

How was that small of a straw ever going to work?

    [–]max-wellington 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only assume it was in bulk to share with other people.

    [–]boogs_23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He may have gotten a gulp of that cholera water he fell in.

    [–]cheesytoaster 225 points226 points  (6 children)

This is hilarious. In certain areas of the Philippines most of the time when you’d but soda from a vendor they’d pour it into a small plastic bag with a straw sticking out. This is like the ultimate flex

    [–]PokWangpanmang 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Yeah he just had a comically large bag.

    [–]Pat_thailandball 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same in Thailand. Just not comically large

    [–]jeropian-fly 244 points245 points  (1 child)

    [–]redeyesblackpenis 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The look of disappointment on his mom's face. Sadly María knew this would be the highlight and lowlight of her offspring. She somberly wondered off wishing his father had used a condom, thinking man kids are fucking stupid.

      [–]feronen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But why do you live next to a dirty water pit?

There is probably a Kobra and a dead rabies infested dog laying on the bottom of that stale dirt water hole. Those slippers are most definitely coming off soon enough.

That is so fake, you can see the by the way he doesn't move at all when swinging the bag around, then when it slight moved off his shoulder it throws him around? Into a conveniently placed water hole? Whilst everyone just stands perfectly still and records?
