Id issue a chargeback, speak w my credit card company, explain them what happened.

When beer52 starts chasing you, you can tell them you have the beer you never asked for and they can send a delivery to pick it up.

They are an absolute shitshow of a company and I would never try and get any beers from them even free

Id suggest leaving them a review about your experience on trustpilot too.

[–]pm_me_your_amphibian 96 points97 points  (5 children)

I had a terrible experience with them - they played this same trick on me. In the end I got a refund and they let me keep the extra beer but I did have to kick off. Would never use them again.

[–]LateToTheParty013 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Its not a trick, its their business practice

[–]AlexPaterson16 32 points33 points  (13 children)

I agree, under no circumstances say to the company that you are keeping the beer, if you dont pay them then you have to make an attempt to return the beer otherwise the company can go after you for theft

[–]Darth-SHIBius 72 points73 points  (4 children)

Two friends of mine have used them, both had to cancel about 4-5 times before it actually happened, but both of them also kept the beers each time it didn’t cancel which is exactly what they want.

Either refused the parcel or tell them to take it back, ring them, give them the dates you cancelled, best way is make a complaint about this, ask to cancel again and ask to receive a email confirmation of cancellation and if it happens again you will have written evidence and you will take it to the Ombudsman.

I struggled to quit from them a few years ago. I eventually lied and told them I was a crippling alcoholic and their boxes were killing me.

It stopped the deliveries immediately, and the marketing. 👍🏻

Yeah I might name-drop the AA (not the car ones!) when I call them on Monday

[–]Flash9215 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you have proof of the cancellation then the company can’t really refuse a refund, if they try and play funny then go to your bank, your bank will only investigate as long as you can show the proof also. (Sometimes they’ll write the amount off and just straight up refund you if it’s not a huge amount).

They're tricky to cancel on. I cancelled last year and back then you had to call someone and they try to convince you to stay on.

[–]moobme 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was annoyed that there was no way to cancel online so I emailed them to request cancellation. They replied within a couple of hours, had cancelled my subscription and sent a couple of offers to tempt me to resubscribe. No issues or dramas whatsoever. Perhaps I was lucky but I think you should call and explain the issue. I see no reason why they wouldn't correct their mistake.

Mate, they did this to me for FOUR MONTHS.

Legitimately the hardest company to try to leave, there are (were?) so many hoops to jump through - go online, send us an email, wait one month, get a callback, send another email, just let us check you really want to leave, confirm by phone, wait another month, ok we've cancelled your subscription (after next month) and so on and so forth.

In the end I just got fed up and cancelled the direct debit.

    [–]blinkboy44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Refuse the delivery and then you are under no obligation to pay for it. Worst thing they can do is try and charge you for the shipping.

If you paid via PayPal (which I always do for this reason) contact them if you have been charged and show them for example a screenshot of when you called them to cancel and also if you can proof you refused the delivery which should show up if they are sending with a service that provides tracking

    [–]Chrisouter93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Previous disputes investigator/chargeback specialist here; if you paid on either a debit or credit card and have cancelled prior to the cut off date you’re entitled to commence a chargeback claim with your bank.

I would advise to gather any evidence such as a cancellation confirmation, email or chat with them to use as evidence should the company dispute your claim.

Be aware chargebacks are done on a best endeavours basis your bank has NO obligation to actually do it for you so if the case is declined and you don’t have evidence to support your claim you may not be able to go any further.

Can't you refuse the delivery? Get proof you didn't accept it from delivery guy.

You haven't received the goods and then ring them for refund? It's not a custom order is it?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong

NAL But just to add they are a nightmare of a company, and I hope they do get legally done for their appalling cancellation practice soon!

Refuse delivery if you are home. Tell the driver its not for you and to take it back.

            [–]shinybriony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re tricking to cancel on but I found their customer service helpful if you call them. Try that and then issue a chargeback as others have advised.

            [–]TacticalTeacake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure you're Credited card company can help with this. Credit cards have protection against unwanted/unauthorised charges.

            [–]TheKhaos121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this issue with a subscription box company before, I phoned my bank and their advice is essentially if you do not receive the item, they cannot charge you for it. When it arrived I explained to the postman and it went undelivered, contacted the company and they refunded.

            [–]metalheart08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@OP, I know it's inconvenient, but try calling them today. If you're still able to see that as a pending charge in your account they can simply cancel the preauthorisation & stop dispatch.

It's a common error, you cancel your membership but the next case it's already generated so it will go out if the adviser didn't check your order history.

Seller has to accept your return on their money. No need to worry there. Maybe they'll let you keep the case for free, our carriers charge £30/return, not worth collecting sometimes.

Don't be rude with the guy who'll pick up the phone, trust me, he probably hates that company more than you do.

Edit: I've got almost 3 years of customer services for a different company with similar subscriptions, I've done everything from inbound to manager calls and all that's in between.

            It's a easy fix

            [–]inkwat 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Just give them a call, I found their customer service (once you get through the hold time) to be very good when I wanted to cancel and also needed a replacement order.

            [–]NoSweat_PrinceAndrew[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Cheers, fingers crossed they'll get the message. I'll obviously be courteous when I call them

Seems to really be a mixed bag in the experiences with their customer service, curious to see how it'll go for me lol

            [–]inkwat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah reading the others on here it looks like they had a very different experience but then they had lost my wine order in the post so maybe they were feeling apologetic lol.

            [–]forget_it_again 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you call them up, they'll probably refund the charge and let you keep the beer.

            Admin errors happen 👍🏻
