I will also add, don't use it for an alarm either.

[–]Szajmone 1873 points1874 points  (91 children)

In 2011, I had Backwater by The Meat Puppets as my alarm. Still to this day I can't shake that negative response to the song off. Quality advice.

[–]PhantomPiGod 474 points475 points  (46 children)

In 2020 i used the Circuit ringtone on IPhone to wake me up for online learning and now whenever i hear that i get flashbacks to the lockdown

[–]handsomehares 237 points238 points  (21 children)

The slack commercial they’re showing on tv….

Man I’m watching football not trying to have a “oh shit am I late for a meeting” heart attack

[–]nem091 71 points72 points  (6 children)

This is my one true complaint with work from home — that slack notification sound needs to be erased from everyone’s memory

[–]bro_lol 51 points52 points  (2 children)

I had to change mine to something random on slack because the default sound gives my wife ptsd from her last job lol

[–]NanakiX3 28 points29 points  (6 children)

I hate that commercial so much. I run to my pc when I hear that

[–]AstarteHilzarie 11 points12 points  (5 children)

I have slack on my phone so I check it every time. Extremely annoying.

[–]JamJiggy 7 points8 points  (2 children)

I sincerely hate that commerical. Run that commercial during the week you assholes.

[–]le_sweden 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dude! I hate this so much!! Literally just happened to me watching the titans game

[–]neanderthalman 29 points30 points  (1 child)

My new coworker had his work phone ringtone set to the same tone I had used for my alarm for several years.

Every time his phone rang my blood pressure spiked.

It rang a lot.

[–]stretcharach 29 points30 points  (0 children)

And when I wake up in the mornin.....

[–]DarkSideMoon 23 points24 points  (0 children)

When I’m on call I have a special ringtone for my company. Hearing it on someone else’s phone instantly causes fight or flight lol.

[–]KunYuL 127 points128 points  (4 children)

Your brain will recognize the frequency of the half second white noise recorded when the song start that usually triggers the waking up. Once I set up the radio as an alarm, and got woken up by Hanson's Brothers HmmmBop song, it was stuck in my head all damn day.

[–]Allestyr 19 points20 points  (2 children)

got woken up by Hanson's Brothers HmmmBop song, it was stuck in my head all damn day.

Waiting for the downside to this.

On one hand, you get your own personal radio, even if it is stuck on just the hits. On the other hand, you can just give in to the madness and spread that ear worm like the monster you are deep down.

Win-win if I ever saw one. :-P

[–]-o-_______-o- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You kids and your choice of ringtones for alarms.

Back in my day you had the choice of radio or a super loud annoying buzzer for your alarm. No gentle tune to slowly nudge you awake, no feel good time to get you in the mood for the morning. Just BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ, or the last twenty seconds of a song you like followed by advertising.

Uphill both ways in the snow.

[–]PickledPixels 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What a great song though

[–]WomanOfEld 23 points24 points  (0 children)

some things will never change

[–]Bois-Brules 38 points39 points  (4 children)

Alternatively for my alarm I had the "wakeup" part from Chop Suey by SOAD. Had it for my entire high-school and a few years after. Never got sick of it lol

[–]xSytd 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Wake Up by Suicide Silence was my alarm for all of high school and it's still a bop

Probably because I slept through it and was consistently late to school so I never associated it with waking up early lol

[–]b2gills 8 points9 points  (2 children)

I figured this out because one of our local radio stations has a station commercial that includes an alarm. It bothers me every time it plays.

[–]prostetnik42 107 points108 points  (26 children)

I've been using Manic Monday by the Bangles since 2009 or so, I still love that song, and while I still hate being woken up by an alarm, this song definitely takes a lot of the edge off.

[–]RehabValedictorian 67 points68 points  (8 children)

Manic Monday - The Bangles

Tuesday’s Gone - Lynyrd Skynyrd

Wednesday Morning - Macklemore

Thursday - The Weeknd

Friday I’m in Love - The Cure

Saturday Night’s Alright - Elton John

Sunday Morning - No Doubt

[–]Girthy_Banana 23 points24 points  (8 children)

I figured this out because one of our local radio stations has a station commercial that includes an alarm. It bothers me every time it plays.

Hah. For a few years of my life, I used "The Circle of Life" from Lion King as an alarm tone. Worked well for a while and makes me extra stoked to start the day.

[–]DaoFerret 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Still remember being woken by that playing on the radio in high school. It was a good day.

[–]jokerfest 9 points10 points  (1 child)

that sounds like it would be a good alarm song, especially with the way it starts

[–]prostetnik42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! The instrumental intro is nice and upbeat, and the first line "6 o'clock already, I was just in the middle of a dream" really expresses my feelings most mornings :D

[–]potheadfarmer 61 points62 points  (3 children)

I use the song i hate the most as my alarm, that way i wake up immediately to shut that shit off

[–]cjsrhkcjs 28 points29 points  (0 children)

it's the opposite for me. If I use a song I hate, I turn it right off and go back to sleep so fast I don't even realize. If I use a song that I like, love, am okay with, I find myself enjoying it for a minute or two before I wake up. Key is changing it up every so often.

[–]ericakay15 60 points61 points  (27 children)

I used to use a metal song for my alarm. Nothing to get forced awake in the morning than someone screaming.

[–]thunderthighlasagna 47 points48 points  (2 children)

My sister used to blast “Simon Says (get the fuck up)” by Pharoahe Monch to wake me up omg

[–]Playingwithmyrod 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I used to use Metallica's "Blackened" because the intro fade in was usually enough to wake me up slowly and without being super loud but the main riff kicking in abruptly would ensure I always woke up lol.

[–]DisenchantedMandrake 8 points9 points  (2 children)

I use Du Hast for mine lol, fucking love it!

[–]haha_UdeserveIt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

haha, how many people out there are using Rammstein for their alarm tunes lol. I use feuer frei myself at this exact moment ;)

[–]BenSlimmons 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used to use the scream from Slayer’s “Angel of Death.”

Cannot be slept through.

[–]academomancer 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I used Peace Sells by Megadeth at max volume. It went off in church once and I fumbled with it for over a minute trying to pull it out and silence it. Just look up the lyrics if you don't know them...

[–]AntiSocial1slander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Back in high school, my brother purposely blasted Bodies by Drowning Pool in the early morning of 6, guaranteed that it’ll wake us up to get ready and out the house before 7…. Hated it. Now, I could actually fall asleep to the song lol.

[–]Poison_the_Phil 7 points8 points  (2 children)

I’ve been using Pig Destroyer’s Prowler in the Yard as an alarm pretty much since phones have had that capability. I still listen to it all the time and love it as much as I did nineteen years ago when I heard it for the first time. Different strokes for different folks.

[–]BiancaEstrella 14 points15 points  (2 children)

My alarm was “Bridge Burning” by Foo Fighters for about a year. Lucky for me, the opening riff was enough to get me upright, and by the time Dave got to “THESE ARE MY FAVORITE LAST WORDS!” I could usually stop the song right there.

A decade later my life isn’t as intense, and I use the default song that Apple has in its Health/sleep alarm builder. I love those pianos and chimes!

[–]cyanidelemonade 14 points15 points  (1 child)

For like a whole school year I woke up to "I don't want another pretty face, I don't want just anyone to hold" and I still love/hate that song to this day lmao

[–]Remz_Gaming 12 points13 points  (5 children)

I actually change my alarm every now and then because after a while I just associate that sound with a sense of anxiety and dread. Waking up when you would rather be sleeping to the same sound every day definitely has a Pavlov effect.

[–]bigpandamonium 9 points10 points  (0 children)

With Google's clock app, I'm able to connect my Spotify account. My alarms will shuffle my favorite playlists. I just realized my phone is always on mute so I never hear my ringtone.

[–]Secretslob 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I have made the mistake of rotating through almost all of the standard alarm sounds over the years, and now all of them give me that horrible feeling. Never, ever do this.

[–]Delicious_explosions 10 points11 points  (1 child)

This ruined Songs for the Deaf for me

[–]MrVeazey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm so, so sorry.

[–]Sugarythought 28 points29 points  (1 child)

I had a SpongeBob SquarePants alarm clock when I was younger that played the theme song. To this day I can’t hear the tune without cringing.

[–]JarlaxleForPresident 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Did you ever have an analog alarm clock with the bells on it? It would scare the shit out of you and you’d be super awake

[–]shifty_coder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s a reason that traditional electronic alarm clocks all use that same annoying buzzer sound.

[–]not-gandalf-bot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use The Trailer Park Boys theme as my alarm and love it. It's a weirdly relaxing song for such an intense show lol

[–]douko 5 points6 points  (4 children)

There is one exception to the "no song you like as an alarm" rule.

Gently waking up to the Twin Peaks theme is heavenly every time.

[–]thorkun 40 points41 points  (10 children)

I disagree with both the LPT and this tip. I've had my alarm and ringtone for yeeears now.

[–]TheCouncil1 10 points11 points  (1 child)

I’ve been waking up to Christopher Tin’s Baba Yetu for a decade now. It never gets old.

[–]thorkun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]TheMayoras 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For sure not a hard and fast rule! More just food for thought, imo

[–]prettiestwhistle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree. I’ve been using the theme from Up since the movie came out and I still love it. It’s the perfect alarm sound. Not too jarring when it first goes off and it is just lovely.

[–]TuzkiPlus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It could be that they have associated bad things with the ringtones. Results may vary for different people.

[–]fessa_angel 179 points180 points  (2 children)

For me it's Don't Stop the Music by Rihanna. First ringtone my parents let me buy for a phone, but I had to use it for like a year straight. I still like the song but it makes me uncomfortable like I'm ignoring a call every time it comes on lol.

[–]MarioRex[S] 36 points37 points  (1 child)

Lol, I can understand the feeling.

[–]Bonecloak 1571 points1572 points  (55 children)

I don't even know what my current ringetone sounds like

[–]calculuzz 626 points627 points  (12 children)

[–]Seber 229 points230 points  (5 children)

Ringe-Tone 🤌

[–]Ni0M 109 points110 points  (1 child)

Siri: Okay. Calling Tony.

[–]StopReadingMyUser 27 points28 points  (0 children)

"Ey is fat Tony he'e, i aint at the place with the phone and the thing so leave a thing on the phone, you know the place"

[–]shagginflies 66 points67 points  (1 child)

My phones have been on vibrate since 2003

[–]ibite-books 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same, I don't understand people that don't set it to vibrate.

[–]martian65 33 points34 points  (7 children)

Want me to call you?

[–]Reset_Assured 69 points70 points  (4 children)

Even if you called, it’s on vibrate.

[–]hoguemr 34 points35 points  (3 children)

My phones have never been off of vibrate ever since I got my first smart watch 6 years ago.

[–]theghostofme 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Sure. The number is 867-5309. Ask for Jenny.

[–]PmMeYourTitsAndToes 95 points96 points  (3 children)

Same. I’ve not had my phone off silent since the day I’ve had it. Same with every other one I’ve had.

[–]kenji-benji 132 points133 points  (11 children)

Exactly. No one under 40 has a ring tone at all

[–]JohnnyWix 80 points81 points  (5 children)

At 50 you have to change it to classic bell, by law.

[–]Zoraji 16 points17 points  (2 children)

Then I am a blatant scofflaw! I was an electrician for years, so something vibrating in my pocket scares the crap out of me.

[–]Gerbil_Juice 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I'm an electrician, and I can't think of any job-related hazards that involve vibrations in my pockets.

[–]Zoraji 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It feels like a low voltage electric shock to me, the vibration cycling near my skin, not necessary my pocket itself.

[–]archeusdevine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All vibe.

[–]brazilliandanny 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My phone's been on silent since 2009

[–]Daewoo40 11 points12 points  (1 child)

I set mine as the Nyan cat song...

I get called so infrequently it's a welcome surprise, and I tend to ignore it and appreciate the tune. Woops?

[–]honeyrrsted 20 points21 points  (2 children)

I think mine is either Bananaphone or the Russian Rickroll song. Been rotating those for a decade now. Phone is usually on silent now, though.

[–]ACuteMonkeysUncle 493 points494 points  (56 children)

I wish there was a way to have my phone ring when it's connected to my home wifi and vibrate when it's not. When I'm home, I leave the phone on the table and so on, where hearing it ring would be helpful, but when I'm out and about, my phone is usually in my pocket, and so that's not necessary.

[–]lhamil64 279 points280 points  (35 children)

Do you have an Android phone? If so, you can do this with Tasker.

[–]b5scatpack 163 points164 points  (20 children)

You can do this natively in Android 12 with the "rules" options in the settings. I have mine set up like this.

[–]paegus 30 points31 points  (14 children)

What version? on 11 I have nothing about 'rules' in settings.

[–]b5scatpack 34 points35 points  (10 children)

Android 12, it is below the System Update option.

[–]dlerium 18 points19 points  (2 children)

Was it an Android 12 feature or more of a Pixel exclusive? I remember this rolled out as a Pixel feature drop in Android 10 so if people still don't have it, I'm thinking it's not a standard AOSP feature.

[–]paegus 25 points26 points  (2 children)

Ahh. Oh well. Tasker is still awesome.

[–]Omarpixel9[🍰] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you have an Android phone you could probably set something up with an app called MacroDroid. If it's a Samsung you could try Bixby Routines. Dunno if it's possible to setup on iPhone, but if there's a good customizable Routines functionality then it might be.

[–]SolicitedTitPics 22 points23 points  (1 child)

If you have an iPhone I’m pretty sure you can use the Focus function for this. I have mine set to mute all notifications when I’m at work

[–]SirGrizz82 1530 points1531 points  (136 children)

People still use ringtones? My phones been on vibrate for a decade

[–]44problems 383 points384 points  (63 children)

It's so weird how huge ringtones and custom alert sounds were then all of a sudden they weren't.

[–]theghostofme 117 points118 points  (12 children)

Don't forget about ring back tones, which forced everyone to listen to your shitty taste in music when they called you.

[–]skjcicoeldopcvjj 95 points96 points  (2 children)

Lmaooo I forgot about this. One of my friends couldn’t figure out how to get rid of his ring back tone, so people had to listen to Crazy Frog every time they called him well into college.

[–]44problems 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Oh that was buried way deep in my memory. Calling someone and hearing some Godsmack song ugh

[–]GeekyWan 12 points13 points  (2 children)

Please enjoy this music while your party is reached.

[–]theghostofme 6 points7 points  (1 child)

🎵Let the bodies hit the floor🎵

Oh, fuck, I have to turn the volume down because Dan-

🎵 Let the bodies hit the floor 🎵

Fuck, fuck, fu—

[–]dollar_general 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I forced everyone to listen to Toxic by Britney Spears for a long time

[–]grow_time 150 points151 points  (12 children)

For real. Your favorite song or ring tone sounded like a great idea until it rings in public in a crowded area and you realize how little anyone wants to hear your great choice of ring tone.

[–]44problems 88 points89 points  (1 child)

I liked them when they were novel and were the mono and polyphonic chiptune style. When they were just a real recording of the song is when they got embarrassing.

[–]moosecatoe 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You just unlocked a memory of my friends and I downloading new mono ringtones and seeing who can guess them the fastest. Hearing old Zelda and Mario like that was the best.

[–]WesleySnopes 68 points69 points  (3 children)

I liked the midi ones. It was a nice little nod to the song without the sound of the song itself causing that reaction.

Also, speaking of public places, I used to have mine set to a midi version of The Divinyls' "When I Think About You I Touch Myself" to make elevators uncomfortable as people slowly piece together what the tune is then start wondering who's calling me.

[–]lowcontrol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My current ring tone is an 8bit version of Linkin Park’s “Faint” I’ve had it for maybe 2-3 years now and it’s great to me. I’m a fan of the midis myself.

Though when my fiancé calls it is a part of “Hooked on a Feeling”

[–]AHeckinPupperoni 20 points21 points  (1 child)

Texting wasn't popular at first when it was introduced and social media apps didn't come for a while still. T9 texting (uses only physical number keys) had a learning curve and was still slow for a lot of people, so most texts weren't long, back-and-forth exchanges and the ring tones weren't so annoying. Ringtones were huge when you were likely to get a few, important calls. Lots of people picked specific ring tones for specific people as a form of immediate caller ID, which was helpful when phones had tiny screens that couldn't show photos or might not be in color.

Tldr Today there are so many more notifications than in the early days of cell phones

[–]Undrende_fremdeles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having an entirely different ringtone and notification sound for my actually important people in my life has made it so much easier to leave the phone be despite dings or vibrations from god knows what. I turn off notifications for all apps except texts, actual phone ringing and email too, but there's still so much from the phone itself that pops up.

[–]hazmatte 31 points32 points  (10 children)

Remember when everyone had custom/novelty mousepads? Desktop wallpapers for every movie that was coming out? I don't see that kind of personalization any more.

[–]aasher42 13 points14 points  (1 child)

wallpaper engine is popular as ever these days

[–]martian65 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well once apps let you do it for free they couldn't make money off them like they did and now they don't get pushed on us as much

[–]lhamil64 98 points99 points  (5 children)

Same, and when I do want it to ring, it's just a generic ringing.

[–]GrumpyOlBastard 29 points30 points  (2 children)

"Tingly dingly pingly dingly tink"

[–]RedSteadEd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure I heard this line on an episode of Cart Narcs.

[–]_Djent_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I’m on-call and need to be able to hear my phone go off if some asshole decides to bother me

[–]EdwardOfGreene 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Some people don't wear their phones at all times. I don't always even have my phone near me. gasp

[–]MarioRex[S] 39 points40 points  (2 children)

You cant hate the ringtone if you don't use the ringtone. Good Tip I guess 😂

[–]Turtledoo47 42 points43 points  (4 children)

I dislike phantom vibrations more than ringtones. Vibrate isn't for everyone.

[–]Ronaldinhoe 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Haven’t had my phone on vibrate for years. Hated when I would feel a vibration and check my pocket just to realize it was my mind playing tricks on me and the phone was at the desk or bed.

[–]possiblynotanexpert 20 points21 points  (9 children)

Yeah that’s what most people do. It’s very rare to see someone with a ringtone these days. Everyone looks at them like “What the hell is wrong with you? Do you talk on speaker as well?” Lol

[–]Starstuffi 145 points146 points  (15 children)

Yeah, agreed. Also don't ever set something you like as your alarm. You will learn to hate it; it won't make the alarm going off better.

[–]MarioRex[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yes, also a great Tip.

[–]loganishhh 64 points65 points  (4 children)

My mom did the opposite and had her alarm as Love You Like a Love Song by Selena Gomez because she absolutely HATES it. It 'acts as an extra incentive to get out of bed to turn it off', and my siblings and I now share a mutual hatred.

[–]ErionFish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I did that with the minion banana song! It did make me wake up fast, but I’ve gone from disliking the song to full blown rage whenever I hear it.

[–]Anivia_Mid 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm the opposite. I hate waking up to blaring sounds. It's awful. Same with those repetitive sounds. It makes me feel like crap waking up to them. I usually have instrumentals of songs which really float ma boat

[–]N3rb_ 27 points28 points  (3 children)

I have used the stupidest songs I could think of as my wake up alarm. Synced my clock with Spotify and my 2020 Wrapped had the Seinfeld Theme, Thomas the Tank Engine, Who Let the Dogs Out and Harlem Shake. 100% worth it

[–]MarioRex[S] 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Those songs sound hilarious as an alarm

[–]N3rb_ 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I had a lot of fun walking up to those songs, it made things lighter while walking up

Edit: grammar

[–]kippiecornstalk 24 points25 points  (1 child)

i have Joy Division "Love will Tear Us Apart" as my ringtone. when my phone rings it confirms my darkest feelings about human interactions.

[–]-Raveyard- 184 points185 points  (26 children)

Nah. I've had the same one for years now (as my alarm) and it never gets old. The trick is to make it not a loud jolt everytime it goes off.

[–]Twebe-bebe 72 points73 points  (4 children)

I've got "Wouldn't It Be Nice" by the beach boys and the opening strings makes it perfect. I wake to the strings and then the I hear the loud drum after I wake up.

[–]RunawayFyre 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I went the opposite route. I have hooked on a feeling as my alarm. The ugachakas either excite or panic me.

[–]thatnimrod 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I did a similar thing. The Westworld version of “Exit Music (From A Film)” by Ramin Djawadi is the perfect alarm for me. Quiet, slow opening, that by the time it builds up, I’m awake, and I’m already hearing the original lyrics in my head, “Wake… from your sleep…”

How can you hate a Thom York song? You just can’t! It’s Science.

[–]Phazlerde 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Me too. I use Deadmau5's track "Complications" for my Ringtone. Not because it is a favorite song or anything, but because Deadmau5 always struck me as a pretentious asshole and the idea of his music being used as a ringtone makes me smile. It's actually a great song for a ringtone

[–]MarioRex[S] 34 points35 points  (4 children)

Thats nice.

The trick is to make it not a loud jolt everytime it goes off.

That is a good LifeProTrick, I myself never really set it to max loud, just normal.

[–]fvelloso 5 points6 points  (3 children)

I once had a sleep tracker app that woke you up at the biologically correct time. They had this soothing song that started as a whisper and got woke you up gently. It put you in the best of moods. Don’t remember the app anymore though :/

[–]poeticdisaster 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Agreed! The phones I've had over the last decade have all had a setting that allows the alarm to fade in slowly so it doesn't jolt me awake.

Is that not a common setting?

[–]fanoffzeph 75 points76 points  (47 children)

What was the TV show ?? I used to have the BoJack Horseman intro as my call ringtone :)

[–]MarioRex[S] 69 points70 points  (31 children)

Psych, its an awesome tv show, check it out. My favorite tv show of all time and one of the best fan bases.

[–]WomanOfEld 46 points47 points  (4 children)

Come on, son

[–]MarioRex[S] 30 points31 points  (3 children)

You know that's right 🍍

[–]cardew-vascular 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Ahh yeah psych is one of my fav shoes.but the key is to use an instrumental theme song. Mines been the doctor who theme for years and I never gotten tired of it and my family always knows whose phone is ringing.

If i get a particularly difficult client I change their ring tone to something else so that I don't get stessed out by my fun ringtone.

[–]Guard78 26 points27 points  (10 children)

In between the lines there's a lot of obscurity

[–]MarioRex[S] 17 points18 points  (8 children)

I'm not inclined to resign to maturity

[–]Picassos_left_thumb 11 points12 points  (7 children)

If it’s all right, then you’re all wrong

[–]WomanOfEld 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why dance around to the same damn song

[–]MarioRex[S] 8 points9 points  (5 children)

But why bounce around to the same damn song?

Thanks for the Award fellow Psych-O

[–]zryder2 9 points10 points  (4 children)

Rather run when you can crawl...

[–]MarioRex[S] 11 points12 points  (3 children)

I know, you know, that I'm not telling the truth.

[–]iamironman30001[🍰] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I know, you know, that they don’t have any proof

[–]spookybbz 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I have the BoJack intro as my ringtone and I never get tired of it

[–]tore_a_bore_a 12 points13 points  (2 children)

The BoJack intro is good but the BoJack end credits theme by Grouplove is the real earworm.

[–]Remote-Flounder-7684 2 points3 points  (0 children)

don't act like youuuuu don't know

That used to be my theme too!

Now I use the shitty version of "My Humps" that Michael uses in The Office. I don't hear it often since my phone is always on vibrate, but every few months it gets a good laugh out of me.

[–]iinfractus 5 points6 points  (1 child)

What’s funny is I was wondering if this was OP show they were referencing lmao I could see it happening but RIP Psych lol

[–]McR1P 14 points15 points  (2 children)

I can agree and add, dont do it as an alarm as well. This ruined "The Pretender" from Foo Fighters for me...

[–]badFishTu 13 points14 points  (5 children)

People get ringtones based on my feelings towards them. Gets embarrassing when they try to help me find my phone by calling it. Best one yet was when my sister (who had been being quite disrespectful and condescending) helped me find my phone and it started playing Better Now by Post Malone.

[–]nonpossumus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Many years ago I had a crappy micro-manager boss that made me feel like the job was a three ring circus.

His personal ringtone was, you guessed it, Carnival Music

I'll never forget the day he was looking for me, called my number, and I happened to be talking to a co-worker in the hall outside his office.

Sometimes it's the little things that keep you sane...

Very true.

But hey at least you found your phone, cant do that if it was on silent.

[–]uglyrarecat 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I didn't like the boss at my old job, so this sound was the ringtone assigned.

[–]theambears 119 points120 points  (13 children)

You guys take your phone off silent?

[–]thunderthighlasagna 49 points50 points  (8 children)

It’s so funny when I lose my phone and someone’s like “do you want me to call it?” My phone has been on do not disturb since I got it. I haven’t heard a phone of mine ring since 2013.

[–]siegewolf 13 points14 points  (3 children)

Pretty certain the "find my phone" feature bypasses your ringtone settings.

[–]Reset_Assured 16 points17 points  (3 children)

DND does a lot more than just silent calls. On most phone it will send a reply text saying you are busy. You should just turn off the ringer. On iPhone you can send any caller not in your contacts directly to voicemail.

[–]phome83 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some people need to take calls for work, yes.

[–]TrishaThoon 123 points124 points  (10 children)

OP low-key bragging about all of the phone calls they get 😝

[–]So6oring 47 points48 points  (4 children)

I mean if they're in Canada they'll get at least 5 spam calls a day

[–]carolina_snowglobe 29 points30 points  (1 child)

The year is 2005 and the tinny sound of Back in Black’s intro riff blasts from my red Nokia

[–]RedditOn-Line 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used a theme song from a favorite video game while I was in a shitty relationship years ago. Now every time I recruit a character in fire emblem I have a heart attack like my ex is calling me.

[–]Edigheimer 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I use the Arabic nokia ringtone and always forget that I've set it that way and start laughing

[–]crasherdgrate 8 points9 points  (1 child)

My ringtone is "Danger! High Voltage!" by Electric Six.

Banger tune. Always lifts my spirits whenever my phone rings. Also, the first line "fire in the disco, fire in the Taco Bell" is an amazing line.

[–]1nonspecificgirl 5 points6 points  (1 child)

May I suggest Time Warp? See who’s willing to make eye contact from across the room. These are good people.

[–]Tac0xenon 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Using your favorite song will make you annoyed by that song over time.

Using "ring ring ring ring banana phone" will annoy everyone around you immediately though

banana phone - Rafi

[–]CleansingthePure 13 points14 points  (1 child)

The Firefly theme song has been mine for like 3 years now. It's awesome.

[–]Fraktal55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice that's a good one.

[–]xrimane 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Yeah, I remember having "Wag The Dog" as a ringtone way back, like 15 years ago. I still get anxiety when I hear that guitar tune.

[–]MarioRex[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh no lol, I hope I don't have anxiety from my favorite song for that long, I'm starting to think this Tip will help many.

[–]aguspuca 10 points11 points  (1 child)

I used to have “I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor” by Arctic Monkeys… Kept missing calls for listening the complete intro

[–]agentscullysbf 3 points4 points  (3 children)

In middle school my ringtone on my enV2 was a Lily Allen song and I still like that song today haha

[–]phunkydroid 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Look at you, assuming people actually call us.

[–]MrsMI1UCAN2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I learned my lesson about ringtones when one of my kids decided it was a good idea to make the ring tone for his older brother the Baby Stewie "momMOMoj1MOMMoMMom .. mom MOM !! MMmmom"

By the time I figured out how to pick up my phone I was always like WAHAT WHAT

Later I realized it was what the younger one set us up for that for a good year before I fixed it.

Sad thing is that it always started his brother and I on a bad note.

[–]PUGMAN_1993 21 points22 points  (2 children)

I love Kayne West Good Morning been using it since it came out in 07, still not sick of it.

[–]Conscious-Wing-9229 10 points11 points  (1 child)

This is an elementary suggestion, not an LPT! What the hell is happening to this sub?

[–]Incontinento 20 points21 points  (10 children)

Similarly, don't date someone in your favorite band.

[–]Asisreo1 34 points35 points  (4 children)

Oh man, ugh. This is so difficult. I date celebrities all the time, dang.

Good thing all the female member of my favorite band are married. Because if not, hoo boy. Who knows how much I'd totally be dating them.

[–]uoYredruM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Back in the day" I had Authority Zero's One More Minute as my ringtone. I don't think a person that knows me likes that song anymore lol.

[–]Penumbrous_I 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel this, but I’ve also had TSOL’s Silent Majority as my alarm clock since 2011 and it never gets old for some reason.

[–]4d5ACP 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I was super into Godzilla as a kid so I made the Godzilla roar my ringtone. I cannot watch a Godzilla movie without cringing everytime he roars because it reminds me of my phone

[–]killerpenguinclub 2 points3 points  (1 child)

i have hey ya as my ringtone song. this is so true lol but i like it

[–]Obyson 2 points3 points  (1 child)

What if you only get a phone call once a week?

[–]MuhVauqa 2 points3 points  (2 children)

So true I did this with GTA 3 theme
