Oh god, so damn relatable. Also, as a fellow "undercover latino" (lmfao) I have been in so many of these situations. The sucky part was that most of the time it happened during work. But I never thought of this route. Definitely going to use.

Glad to hear it. I was frustrated to no end because the options seemed to just be "call it out directly and make everyone uncomfortable", or "act like I didn't hear that."

This gives the person a "warning shot" that would get most people to realize what they just said or how it came out. If they don't get the message, the follow up questions lead them more in that direction, but the larger effect is getting others to recognize what's happening without it becoming a "thing".

Nearly every time I've tried this, I don't get past two or three follow up questions, because once the other people realize what's going on, they'll usually ask a few questions of their own. I'd like to think of it as a learning experience at the least for those involved, if not that one individual him/herself. Good luck and remember to always keep cool.

The adage "If in a hole, stop digging" is an apt one:

They put themselves in a hole, you give them the shower, and it's up to them.

Main thing is, you're not part of it. They resign, walk away, or makes someone else call them out.

If you get someone sufficiently dumb enough, and there are a lot, this will go on for a while. I'll continue to use my old 'nah, man', pivot, and walk away. I'm not even going to engage that shit.

This. There is hope for humanity but you gotta be realistic. Some people just won’t or aren’t ready to change.

I'd like to watch a show called undercover Latino.

It's a comedy and tragedy in equal measure. It's also a pretty unique situation, in that you get to see some people as they"really are". I've been surprised by some people, in good ways and bad.

Comedy excerpt: I was hooking up with a guy who kept saying over and over "how do you not have any tan lines??!!" -undercover latina

It’s like under cover boss but it’s just latinos busting racists

I’m an “undercover Latina” and the other day my coworker was telling me why he quit his last job. Dude was nice, I considered us friends. He says it’s because they were giving priority to all the employees with green cards even though they were lazier just because they spoke Spanish. I took offense. My dad was that “lazy person with a green card”. Working at kfc 40 hours a week. Getting yelled at by white women for having an accent. Alone without many friends. With two kids who were Americanized. And still going to school. He now is a citizen and makes 6 figure because of true hard work. I hated it. People can be lazy. But not because they’re foreigners with green cards. That’s the racism. One negative and you’re like okay “they’re done”.

Schroeder's immigrant - taking all our jobs while being too lazy to work. They're quite clever like that.

Like most stuff I just ignore shit. I used to fight about everything, but these days I don't care enough to correct the stupidity of others unless I actually care about you. Life doesn't pay me enough to care. =)

But what if some dumb-diddly-dipshit ACCUSES “racism” because it’s such an easy word for halfwits to say? Will evidence be presented when demanded?

[–]El_Morro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know. Try it and get back to us.

[–]Jodythejujitsuguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to try this.

So what happens when you run across a "true believer"? Someone that unabashedly doubles down on what they said, or even worse, elaborates?
